well i dont know about the 8800 series, but the 7800's I got are different brands, and all three work the same, xfx, evga and bfg. the bfg and the xfx are clocked higher by themselves, but when sli'ed they drop to match the clocks of the slower ones. I dont need to mess the bios, they work just fine.

if this wasnt a MIR, I would've gotten two, one for me and one for my buddy. As soon as we saw that, we said hell no. Oh well, maybe these guys will learn someday that IR will get them more customers.

That's been my experience as well.

Yeah the MIR scares me off, I'll just wait and buy used ones when everyone flocks to the new cards.
