Anyone know the difference between the two Zotac 8800GT AMP! Edition part numbers:
ZT-88TES3P-FCP
vs.
ZT-88TES2P-FCP
HDMI-adapter?
OR
[wishful thinking]
3 phase power?
Or even Samsung GDDR3
[/wishful thinking]
You were not supposed to see this.
The ramchips will still have silicone residue on them from the factory. To get an adhesive pad to stick you need to clean them thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol or acetone, and scrub them with a qtip. I use a thin film thermal interface that is kind of a pain to work with but has a very good bond if you do it right. If there is an residual crap on the chip, nothing will stick. Its like putting tape on a dusty surface.
The MCW60 has a single oversized o-ring for sealing, I have never had one leak, so either you didn't put the o-ring in or replaced it with one that is too small in diameter. Now the oversized o-ring on the Apogee is made so that it actually puts a bow in the heat plate so the clamping force onto the chip will create a flat surface. I had to replace this as I run a bare die FX-60 and the normal clamping force would crush my chip. You have to be careful on the exact size of the o-ring or it will not seal if its too small or will bow the hot plate if its too big. I believe the MCW60 has the smaller o-ring, so it may have been damaged, or not installed correctly.
o-ring = washer??
I find the absolute best way to stick ramsinks on is to first clean the ramsinks with alcohol.
Then apply a nice layer of mx2 and then after a few minutes, apply a small dab of superglue on the ramsink and hold it in place for 15secs.
This will give it a nice bond and if you need to pop them off, lightly twist and they come right off.
I've never had a problem with this

Eddie, excellent pic! So, in your opinion, are those all the PWM components that need heatsinks?

Thanks, well I'm not sure if they need them or not, but if you look at the original single cooler heatsink, those are the parts that are specifically cooled with the sink.
So, it just seemed like a good idea to cool those parts as well.
My clocks have been good too 771/1955/1021 with a fan blowing on the card and of course the gpu watercooled.
I get about 36c on the gpu, 30c on the memory

I never had much luck with cpu or gpu.
But,
I got a 8800GT, now with biosmod it does now 700core games, and I can bench at 750 or so.
Got me a E6750 cheap, a 100bucks upgrade from my old bad cpu,
I did run it to 3900mhz and I guess really cold outside I might be able to do 4ghz.
Just for bench not 24/7 which I enjoy more than benching.
Running it 3800mhz atm
Got new ram, Crucial 8500 2gb and running them 4.4.4.12 and got a super pi at 32mb 13.03 min.
3Dmark06 i got 13350p and not maxed out yet.
This 8800GT so badly needs a hardmodd.
Just that I and stuff like small things on videocards and heat dont go hand in hand

I guess this thread is as good as any
Is it a bad time to purchase the 8800GT right now? im afraid that for the same price i could have got a G92 GTS
im suffering with this X800

I just bought an 8800GT MSI OCed card (apparently with two free games but they didn't say which ones so I wouldn't count on that) from dell.com for $219 shipped (includes taxes for my state).
It's not in now I guess but it should ship in a couple of weeks. That's close to the best price I've seen for the 8800GT yet.
Go to dell.com and search for 8800gt. They should have it listed for 207 after a 20% discount which expires Dec 6.

I just bought (2) EVGA Geforce 8800GT SSC for a SLI setup and the new eK 8800GT FB water block NICKEL to go with it. This is the highest factory OC card out there coming in at Graphics Core Clock 700MHz, Memory Clock 2000MHz, and the Shader Clock 1750MHz. I should get the cards on Monday and the eK blocks on Wed next week. I do not plan on putting them under water tell the end of this month. I will keep you all posted with the SLI scores I receive.
