    KumKum's new unit | WoRkLoG :-)

    Hi

Some days ago nice guy called KumKum ask me about new unit ... more powerful subsitute for his Vapochill LS, becasue he wasn't really satisfied with temperatures ....so ... :

    Specs :

    Compressor: HIGHLY CHW 33TC4-U - it's 18000 BTU/ 1.5 HP rotary
    evap: steeper by piotres
    XV: captube 0.8 mm
    condenser: 3 row, cooled with 4 x 120 mm 12v fans
    Refrigerant : R507+R410a blend
Case : Chipboard base plate 32 x 40 cm, painted black
    Others : SLHX - 15mm with 1/4' inside, around 50 cm long

I want to reach sth like -48-50*C@225W load .

It's worklog ...I've start making this unit 2 days ago, and till now I've worked on it not more that sum of 6-7 hours .

So I have only make baseplate yesterday :

    and

    Today I prepared condensor :

    and braze suction line :

Thats wayyyy overkill!! He don't need nothing that size for his pc just swap out the compressor in his LS for a bit larger one. If ur gonna use an 18000btu power hog ur gonna need a much larger condensor than the one u got there! and much more airflow than those tiny 12v fans can make.

Off course He won't. The power consumption decrease with the evaporating temperature, if he doesn't need such power to carry load it won't consume a lot and the condenser is large enough, as a graphic card doesn't consume the same in IDLE and FULL (the temperature isn't the same too).

I'd say 1.5 HP is overkill for a singlestage, that'd probably be a beast of an autocascade compressor though. Hell anything over 1/2 HP is a bit much in my book. That's going to be one angry sounding rotary though

ridiculous: yes, awsome and has great potential: definatly! this will make a killer unit.. just an idea, if hes already going that far out why not get a dual stage?

Dang, that's way more BTU's than the 1 hp rotary I'm using! And I'm aiming for a 400 watt load...A chiller, of course

    But seriously, autocascade that, man!

I see no reason why it's wrong to use this. Just hope you don't have creating a vacume so it has lower temps but poor holding temps!

I want a kick off SS that is as cold as possible, can hold the highest heat laod going. Why, Auto C is too sodding dangrous, SS is cheap and easy, Cascade is too costly and yet to see one bar LD and BazX that i would want to buy.

I think it's just a bit overkill for a 24/7 unit. Why not just mod the VapoChill, even if it involves taking everything out and replacing it.

Modding VapoChills to the heat load of todays CPU's is certainly possible, more and more people are getting theirs upgraded to support the newer CPUs.

Why not just autocascade it for -70C? You have the power there!

I was gonna say the exact same thing NoL. It's as shame to see such a large compressor wasted on a single stage. C'mon piotres, do what the public demands, auto-c that baby.
...is no longer working as an assistant HVAC/R-installer...
But, is still blasting 20000 songs of real Rap

    Hi

Guys, sorry but not this time ... mine client want just powerful and still quite cheap unit ..moreover He want to have it quite fast in home. Autocascade will be much more complicated, and for sure it'll take much more time to built ...which I haven't got now . + I don't like to use co2 (You know I don't like to have "strange" problems like dry-ice forming ) ...I must have R23 for auto-c and now I haven't got it . Maybe in future I'll build auto-c with compressor like that, I don't say no .

Today I insulate suction line :

Tomorrow no work - I go with mine girlfriend on journey .

Oh, believe me, nothings wrong about this just has soo much potential in a dual stage, but heck, this is still going to be an unbeleivable SS!

Like [XC] gomeler said u don't need anything above a 1/2hp compressor to do this job and not only that a 1/2hp compressor will use less power and will be quiter. Does KumKum know that this compressor is massively oversized and is wasting his money on something he don't need???

Admittedly, though, get some r507 in there and it'll be sitting darn near -50*C.

    Hi Guys

Sorry I've back from trip yesterday at evening, and now I have much work in school, so I won't be able to work on unit every day . But I'll make some work till end of this week, I really hope to finish that build :-).

That system will be making better temperatures loaded than eg. system with 9000BTU 3/4 HP rotary, so please don't say that's waste of money .

    Regards
    Peter

Isn't that tube on the exit of the condenser kind of steep?

I thought if the refrigerant has condensed it should really be going level or downhill so it doesn't boil back off ? Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Does the refrigerent go downhill in the succion line? No, however the density isn't the same and It move anyway... The section is small enough for the liquid to move properly, even with a 1/4hp we can put the filterdrier (until 15g) upwards there isn't any probleme with that (however the section is more important and the speed lower), so with 1.5kw there won't be any problem at all :p
