[Q] What is the problem with DS3 and D9 memories?
[A] This, and other GigaByte MBs like DS4 and DQ6 are very fastidious. They, don’t like the best DDRIIs on the market nowadays D9 are known to be Winbond for ddr2 slots memory, tight timings, high frequency. GigaByte Mobos don’t like, for sure, Good Ram nonPRO 667 mem (D9). But these are only to be bought in Poland and/or Germany. The rest is pretty likely to be working well, but look below!
    how common is this?
Just put an order on Team group with D9GMH

my currrent OCZ Platinum pc2 6400 wont overclock squat so I thought I'd try proven overclocker....

At least thats what I hope for It has 6-phase power compared to the 3-phase of DS3, actually the board seems to have more things in common with the DQ6 than the DS3.

Havn´t seen much overclocking on it so far but what I have seen looks good: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=108937

As there still seems to be some confusion about whether or not the DS3 overwrites the ram timings I would like to report my findings here.

I have read what Lestat wrote about the subject but to be honest I did not really understand what exactly his proof was, maybe my english is too bad.

    Anyway, I have a
    DS3 (F4C)
    2GB Mushkin PC6400 5-5-5-15
    Radeon 1900XT

The Mushkin is pretty good for the Money, being able to do CL4 at DDR800 and sometimes going up above DDR900 at 5-5-5-15.

    Here is the Test:
I set VDimm to +0,3, all other Voltages remain untouched.
The FSB is set to 400MHZ
The ram is set to 2XFSB, making it run at DDR800
(the Problem only turns up when running the Ram 1:1 with the FSB, which is hard to prefent for overclocking)

So first I start with the ram timings set to auto. The System starts, but breaks down during Windows loading screen. Three times, so I give up.

I set the timings to CL6. Same outcome.
I set them to CL5, same outcome. (Tried five times now)

I set them to CL4, and the system starts. Not only does it start, it is able to run two instances of prime for 39 minutes before reporting a mistake.

I repeatet the test twice. Same outcome.

So why is it that CL4 is much more stable than CL5 and CL6? Easy, it is because CL4 is actually the lowest timing I can possibly get. Cl5 and Cl6 are reportet as CL3 by CPUZ when I start at FSB266, and it is right. CL4 is reportet as CL4 by CPUz, and it is right.

I just felt It is important to post that here as I do not want the Gigabyte engineers to get funny ideas about having a working bios when they read here

There is a guy at www.forum-3dcenter.org who has the same Problem with the same Ram/Boar combination, so I consider this matter to be clear now. Let me know if I have made mistakes here, If not I would like you to try yourself (or anyone who has the Issues for that matter) and correct the Section in the Faq, as I am sure by now that this is clearly a case of overwritten data in the Bios and I would like engineers and customers to know.

I think the dvd+rw (pioneer 111d) problem I experienced was actually the fault of bios f3 and not the drivers as I previously said.

Then take a look at this.

My result is with Corsair PC-5300 Value sticks. I really doubt value stick can pull off CAS 3 at 500 FSB. So the reading must be false.

Anyone know a way to get memory frequency and fsb:dram to show up in cpuz? The last time I saw it was when I set my memory multiplier to 3:5... This is using a d805 and xm2 6400 cl5 memory
