It was a good run but looks like XS is a dead forum.
The one-eyed man rules the land of the blind people :p
I've been a very long time lurker. For the longest while I couldn't reset my password properly so i went to a read only mode.
I miss all of the awesome technical info. this site had coming in new for more complex things like cascade cooling, or some of the advanced knowledge you'd find on ES overclocking (Yes I know - not great for the long term relationships with chip makers). Some day I'll build a cascade cooler, or at least a water chiller setup..
Perhaps an attempt with less forums and more concentrated info. might get something going with a smaller than historical group? Sites like RealworldTech or even Semiaccurate Forums bring some pretty deep technical people together without any large amount of activity daily.
Ok this my reason to join XS. I modded my first 9700pro and don't want to tell the result :( . 15 years... I am married for only 12 years. You are like my family... no you are actually a part of my family. I am here until site is completely down. And my only wish is to see one of you in real life...
Thank all of you who read this or not...

Why i cant for screenshot :(
Its kinda lika a town after some kind of apocalypse, not many people left. But the ones that are, are tough ;-)
XS till has a ton of search engine traffic with over 600 people online now.
just wanted to comment this place really has been a home for my inner warranty voider and the importance of communities like this can't be stressed enough. Thanks for all the great years and even though the site seems to have been slowing down I'm here until it 404's. Cheers to all of you
The Crunching community isn't what it used to be either...

Some of us are still going strong, but we could always use more help. Come on, bring those bada$$ systems and help out! :)

I do miss the hyper activity. And the watercooling projects. And just a bunch of nerds.
Even the petty arguments... Sometimes :p:
I know the news slowed down from Stym, but this post makes it sound like there was some sort of news of a shut down? I sure hope not... I learned a lot from here back in the day... and I still check this news forum frequently.
Only reason why I haven't been actively posting is because the site is no longer "https" certified, how come? Why isn't the connection secured anymore for our logins?
This forum is truly special... I recall back in the day... even felt horrible to hear that movieman had passed... it truly was like a family here.... a family of rather technical people, a family of technology enthusiasts who made the latest and greatest CPU's/GPU's/Chipsets/Ram even faster and more bleeding edge with overclocking... it was like a forum of "elites" in the genre, all hanging out and conversing. I came here from the anandtech forums back in the day, anandtech had too many people with high ego's yet clearly didn't know what they were talking about... yet whenever I came here, everyone was "on-point" or willing to learn, teach, and debate in a somewhat respectful and educating manner. The community got together to share and find solutions to their overclocking "needs".
I keep my sig the same for nostalgia, even though that machine isn't running anymore... back when DFI lanparty boards were all the rage.
I'm forced to lesser forums now for activity but I still come here daily... :(
I love this forum even though I had some disagreements over my 12 years with a few far left types. I've gained much knowledge here and voided many warranties with it. I've donated all my used hardware over those 12 years to young people with bright futures and encourage others to do the same.
Thank you Mr Wirth for all your time and hard work as well as those who contribute to the forum. Lets make it 12 more years.
Still come here almost daily, just with the hope in my heart.
We are here, just kinda in that point in life where we have our toys, I am working on a project I will for sure add to watercooling and OC sections, still waiting on a few things though.

Still trying to live up the xtreme, even at 48 years of age
[img] tags do not seem to be functioning for me
At last I managed to insert my sc :D . This was my first activity on XS.

I still check out the site around once or twice a month..
Yeah it has been slowing down, it's not like it used to be.
I'll continue to lurk and post once in a great while.
Those time is less interesting hardware too. That can explain why.
Nice bro. The xp-120 was a beast. Haha, as for fitting a 120mm fan on an xp90, I used wire tie downs to "mount" it on to the xp90, had awesome results for it's time... I was running like 2.87ghz 72 hours stable on prime 95 on my opteron 64.
It's also nice to see a lot of familiar handles still on here from back in the day too, even if we didn't interact much directly, good to see familiar names still active. Charles (glad you're ok man, saw on the other board regarding your health issues) aka "fugger", madcho, dengyoung, sparky, BenchZowner, and many others... I recall a few others that I don't see anymore ( nn_step, synthetickiller, and a few more... I remember their avatars, haha... it's been a while.... and I've been through some things in life myself and I'm thankful to still be around...stay safe and well everyone!)
I remember when Charles would be doing events in Vegas and there would be threads on it, he'd invite the forum there basically, and some members would fly out there to attend.. man I really wish I could've gone out too.
Extreme OC isn't how and what it used to be anymore.
That's the main reason things are slowing down on any extreme overclocking focused website/forum.
This was where I really learned how to overclock and not be scared to push cpus.
I always assumed the drop off was that there was less of a need to overclock these days. Stock CPUs keep pushing towards clocks that 5 years ago were only achievable with custom loops. I was hoping AMD's new chips were going to spur some hardcore overclocking to match Intel clock for clock, but it hasn't happened, yet.
When this forum had very high activity was one of my favorite times for overclocking. Every CPU that launched seemed an excited new adventure & I couldn't wait to see how far people pushed them. Overclocking now seems like more of a glamour trend to "justify" pretty loops. I miss those days.
Sandy bridge was the fun time overclocking. I miss those days too when you sit and explore higher frequencies your chip can give, managing temps, memory's primary, sub timings and squeeze every bit out of it.
I think the change to core counts and the use of multi core in software has caused a change too. It used to be that your OC on your single threaded CPU meant a lot more than it does today.
I also liked how the hardware was a bit more enthusiast and if i wanted to, i felt like i could get mid range hardware and tweak it up to high end-ish performance.
Now I don't feel there's this underdog hardware that can be tweaked if you manage to get the right model (thinking flashing GFX cards to higher versions, or those magic underbinned AthlonXPs), the manufacturers have more control over this sort of thing now.
I tend to just buy the high performance hardware and squeeze what i can out of it, without there being that quest for way more than you paid for.
Oh and in the spirit of things.. Here was my first post! Nov 2004, spelling and grammar problems and all!
"hi there, first post hoorraah
i get 40s on the nose with my AMD 3500, will try and get some specs in sig soon.
I have also got some troubs OCing, i have some guesses as to what the solutions may be, however this is the wrong thread for them "
And this was my score now!

If I can manage to get a link to work XD
It died when we lost a year or two of posts and the forum backup was 2 years old.
Dave was the person who introduced me to xtremesystems. Taught me by phone (long phone calls) to build a better computer. Never made it out to his house but we had numerous phone chats. Sold me some sweet chips too. I still come back to learn but to remember my friend. Xtremesystems is my go to site see what’s new. I may not log in but check the site weekly. May be slow but never forgotten!
I've also been here a while, still check the site daily..
I was told by a moderator (on the condition of his anonymity) that StyM was an AI spambot specializing in collecting mostly non-xtreme news, it was poorly coded and occasionally picked up xtreme news.
The unit (StyM) begun malfunctioning and started to think that it is human; FUGGER was forced to go to the past and put it down.
True.
Especially the Opteron + DFI LP nF4 era.
And then the first Core 2 Duos.
Damn.
But Sandy had something very nice as well.
It was the first CPU that allowed you to pre-test it very quickly, easily with icy water and know if you've got a capable chip or not.
Still remember my good 2600K when I first run it with just regular ice in the pot and made it to 5.86GHz CPU-z... :)
Oddly registrations are up this month.
The data here is invaluable and costs to maintain is covered.
I think Stym is having some ISP issues and hopefully will be back, has not updated on both sites.
Maybe we can do a mini gofundstym.com to see if we can help him, he has contributed a lot in our time of need.
travelling every week for his job lately
Other than spam and personal attacks, the rules are much more friendly with less staff to enforce but the site will stay clean.

When I first posted on this forum. I've been gone a long while with real life things but I can't believe it's slowed down to a crawl. I remember when the forums were insane. What's the down tick?
I always came here for creative ideas and well spoken knowledge on new parts coming out. Now where to go? :(
It was sad to see this post. I normally get a happy birthday email from this group. I started coming her pretty much from the beginning of the group. I remember being very proud that I made the 2gig club back in the days of cutting the bridges of brand new CPUs to hit that. Learned a lot and lost a few chips back then. I made my first phase change cooler with the help of this group. Tons of good memories. I hope the newer ones can find the same fun from this forum as I did. From here I went on to moderate at Abit forums back in the NF7 days. Seems they have taken my avatar I had for many years too. Sad
Abit, now there's a board maker I miss.....
When I started here I believe it was around Northwood Pentium (130nm) times, they were so much easier to cool.
For my P4 2.4c my 2nd motherboard was the IC7-max3 - BEASTLY!
Now 6-8 core desktop CPUs at twice or more the speed are mainstream and they self OC in the form of Turbo while sipping power at idle.
Yep. Its kinda all done for you now.
Tuning the systems is what its all about anyway
Uncore and Memory Timings leaves a lot to tweak :yepp:, then max all core
I don't believe there will be a maximum overclock (crysis voice) button, too many diff configs
The more cores you have the more xtreme the cooling will have to be (intel 28core demo)
5Ghz 24/7 16c or more please
My favorite was the Celeron 533A that I had. It was a new Coppermine based model. It overclocked from 533 MHz to about 920 MHz, and this was at a time before we had any commercially available processors clocked that high.
My favorite was athlon 1700+. That cpu was an oc monster.
Cyrix M II, hands down the best CPU ever ( and an OC monster :D )
Guess it's time post - my last post was April, 2008 LoL :ROTF:
I should update my sig too.
Basically, this is the same machine, but I'm running a Peppermint Linux OS 7 Xenial/Cosmic Cowboy build (32bit Linux 4.18 Kernel), dual-booted (now get this) with the same Windows 2K Pro install.
Some things don't change much, eh what?
What browser? What version of DirectX?
You probably have dot matrix printer and get a kick out of generating ASCII art!:D
I used to dual boot Debian full GCC and 98SE with Visual Studio 6 on a 166 Mhz Pentium with 16 MB RAM, 400 MB HDD, wrote in VC++ and checked platform compatibility with *NIX with GCC! Work had W2K, I jumped to XP later, remember turning off the eye candy in XP to make it faster!
Very special thanks to everyone who has helped me here.
The generosity and kindness of XS is overwhelming. Thank you so much, thank you to all who gave me stuff at the FS section (what a place that was, a treasure!).
Thank you, I still remember:
bt_medic04, that Soyo MB for $10, it was selling for over $150, how could you?
Lowtcell, that 2200+ proc for $5, the shipping was $10, damn you!
ZL1Killa, my first smartphone, DroidX (all accessories, + extra-long battery, phone case), $50 for a $500 phone; may you roast in hell!
This place was a wealth of knowledge. Maxxracer pretty much taught me WC (he was the best WC guy, bar none). I was fascinated by FUGGER hosting XS on a Mac Server (massive traffic back then, thousands and thousands in the intel section and LN2/Water), he was also the first to switch procs on a Mac, anywhere. Before FUGGER changed his name, he was substance and guile. All the editors for those gay forums like Toms and Anandtech came HERE for info. Those were the days!
EDIT: How could I have forgotten hipro and the DDR booster?! Two LANParty boards you helped me fry, hipro! People were engineers back in the day, people of substance!
I thought I'd lose my cherry with my response to this thread. I started lurking in the forums in 2003/2004 and I was inspired to pick up an Asetek Vapochill LS and I never looked back. I liked AnandTech for reviews and would occasionally hit Toms Hardware but I thought that this was the definitive place and bleeding edge for overclocking. This was the place to look for overclocking databases for any chip lot numbers and was very active. Between 2012 and 2016 I disappeared and it looks like something has happened in the last six years and I am wondering why. Is it the relative ease at which systems can now be overclocked? Is it that "extreme" overclocks are not yielding the "worthwhile" performance gains over the cookie cutter main stream efforts? Is it that overclocking itself has become main stream and has caused a diffusion of overclocking "sources"? I would still think that "extreme" overclocking would still be sought after because it is the act of squeezing every drop of performance from their systems, much like racing enthusiasts.
I was looking to find a phase change build for a single stage phase cooler and didn't want to turn to Little Devil so I contacted under-the-ice.com and the owner Ron said they no longer offer their phase builds any longer. Ron was a prominent poster in this community. I asked if he had any leads and he never responded. I posted on different sites looking for builders and it went nowhere. I was able to score an old custom single stage from a guy in Pennsylvania who had Sdumper build him one. I reached out to Sdumper in 2012 and he never responded to me. I am still interested in a new build. Maybe someone here can give me a lead. I am curious like others as to what has caused the drop in the active community here and would be interested in all of your comments.
Pentium II era was my starting point. that huge cpu were looking amazing... starting to love the hardware from that point. yep 486 was the initial starting step into pc.
And then ddr2 fun time when teamxtreem was one of the nice sticks for overclocking. just to cool those HS was challenge when it can reach almost double of its rated speed... oh and what a joy when you achieve higher freq.
Since everyone is going off into stories..
My 1st oc was the 486.
One of the overdrive cpu's.
I had an sx2 and a dx2, I think I even had a dx4..
Anyways they would flake out after so many months.
There heatsink was tiny after all, built in the cpu package, no fan.
After they would flake out i would play with them, toss them around, even would try playing hacky sack with it, whatever.
Pins would get all bent up, most of the time a good pair of needle nose pliers wold fix that right up.
One day, I broke a pin of one of them bending it back, live and learn.
Stuck it in for the heck of it, and it was a speed grade higher then normal, I'm pretty sure it was 66mhz instead of 50.
Ages ago, an ibm ps1.
2nd exp was the pentium 1, the board i had had multipliers and bus speed jumpers.
Wouldn't use the mmx chip though, found an identical one at a time that could, yellow/or tan? tantalum caps instead of black was the only physical diff I could see.
3rd exp, the nvidia tnt1, loved that card, had to trade it for a working hd though (I was stupid and took them apart, eventually ruined the 1st 2 sect's and it screws them)
Stock whatever it was, either 90 or 120mhz, to a max of 0xFF in hex, 255mhz, np with just a reasonable 80mm fan on it.
4th, crappy amd k6-2 450mhz, not as good as I thought they would be.
Ibm sold out and put in an acer? board I think it was.
Oddly enough i went with an aopen athlon 1.6ghz, 333mhz mem, next, ok'ish.
Not an overclocker, the corsair ram I got was not much of an overclocker either in the end, never did run in spec, even with the dfi lpb later...
Down to my fav, the dfi lpb.
I have both the lpa and b, need new caps though.
Spent a couple good years on that, and learned some stuff like how to break things in (not quite applicable as it was, or really anymore).
Did alot of bios modding and learned more asm those days.
I ended up smashing my 1st board lpb, and the nf4 sli-dr or whatever it was called.
That 939 setup was bs.
That board had issues.
Had a china board, the Taiwan board didn't have the same issue whatever it was, but it had some other issue (buddy had one).
Just a crap gen, maybe the venus was better.
The dfi nf3 was really flakey.
That thing needed alot of bios work.
I had my hands on one for a day or 2.
After that, downgraded to a via chipset again, athlon.
Modded the bios lol, did some crazy modding of the sip from my lpb bios, replaced some caps.
Did a stupid experiment and yanked my ram out while it was on (I was trying hot swap ability in win2003 after enabling it), the board didn't like that lol, what I assume was the + voltage pin or maybe a ground got stuck to the ram pulling it out, slot dead.
It was random samsung or micron ddr1.
My 1st pair that did 560mhz stable were gone with the lpb and 939.
Anyways I had to do those mods to get it to play avi files stable :\, biostar board.
Eventually moved up to a 754 abit, then the last dfi I owned was a ddr2 amd, whatever it was called, it was a lp and had the digital pwm.
Crappy pwm at that, overheated like a mofo.
Absolutely required active cooling with the last of it's cpu's it could support.
Then the asus, the ch4 with it's screwed out heatsink mounting that needs redone off and on (never really that 100%, always 99% stable).
After that the board I got in my sig, the intel 4930k.
The dfi ddr2 board with problematic pwm, sold to cousin, he blew it out in a day or 2.
The abit 754, sold to someone else for $200 as a complete system, never got paid for.
The aopen kt333?, blew out after a few days after selling to a buddy, he got the cheapest psu he could.., I didn't really get what happened other then a cheap psu, now I know a bit more (obviously cheap psu, but also cheap caps on mobo).
The lpb I got now is a donation, the lpa I got for $40 or something.
I've got 2 mobile cpu's, the 2nd was a low watt one but not as good as the 1st, it was around $20, not a big deal for a good cpu.
I've got a couple diff sticks.
Don't know off hand but, at least 3x 256 bh-5, and some 512 winbond, and some 512 samsung I think.
I wish I had some good 256 samsung, I guess..
Never did finish that bios, in 2 ways.
The romsip, needed it working again at 280+ 1:1.
And sata rom, I borked and it was never running, I didn't notice until the very end and never got around to figuring it out what I did to screw up loading that.
Both need caps, probably need a new spare psu anyways, eventually when I replace my main psu, I'll use it as a spare for something.
And that's about it, other then some more vga card stuff (bios modding.., the generic oc'ing with the biggest heatsinks I could find isn't too exciting), and some more details of the lpb stuff, like spd modding.
Long post, I know... ^^
....
Personally waiting for 5ghz 16t (or 32t) like someone said above (undervolted), would prefer an inch over like 5.2 - 5.4ghz.
Oh and I should say probably 2 more things...
Didn't need a ddrbooster in the lpb, or maybe the lpa as well, a #2 pencil would get you just shy of your 5v rail.
Real easy mod, single resister.
As for the forums dieing off and why.
I think it's down to amd tbh.
Not to play the blame game, I think by next gen they'll be caught up..
Those fx chips weren't that exciting imo, never had one, but to me it was a whole generation of whatever.
And I think that attributed to it, that was my impression.
Though I see overclock.net and so are still popular...
So I can't quite say what the actual deal is.
I can tell you one thing, I'm not to fond of this stupid light fad.. ^^
There is still some people ...
Just they read and don't post many. I read news forum not daily but almost.
The fact smartphones are now everywhere, it changed internet uses and users. Forum is not very well suited for smartphones.
Since them I boot my computer less. And I am a computer addict :p:
I will keep posting until the purge ;)
The place I hung out before this place died, now IDK what I'll do.............I guess I hang out at reddit a bit. I want to hit Half a Billion crunching points first, then I'll look for a new team I guess..........or maybe I'll be the only crunching some day..
The Newer generation is a new breed... not so interested in custom Pc's....
I also think cost has allot to do with it especially considering the price of top of line hardware these days....
Real life also changes things, XS still has a wealth of knowledge and I always check in from time to time :)
to the old timers here might remember me, I started my external watercoolers from this site called the "waterkeg" I learned so much from the members here and owe just about all my knowledge from this forum.. this used to be the most pristine forum on the interwebs in its day..... great community, great people. God, to only go back to my oc'ing days with my "Chilly1" phase changer and fx55/57 3.0ghz + days were so costly and FUN! Never want to see this forum go away....
its not dead it just need to be revamped. things have evolved and should the forum.
Thanks Rusty
I am open for ideas, I am looking at upgrading vb again.
I miss the old layout. I can't say I dig the new one. Anything that can make this place easier to read is more than ok in my book!
I'm glad all of you guys are still here.
Maybe I'll do a new build w/ a clear case & cold cathode ray tubes, just to feel nostalgic, lol.
Hi Charles,
perhaps some forums need to be archived /retire. As silly as it is, the trend of these days is simplicity. So less forums is good. VB theme needs to be changed, i.e. ( https://themeforest.net/item/quarto-...-theme/8927184 ).
I also liked the older theme better then the new one tbh...
One thing I don't like is certain sub forums doesn't show all threads, I fixed this for myself tonight by going into Settings >> General Settings >> Default Thread Age Cut Off: Show all threads
Maybe just me, but I would rather have them all shown by default, I guess many lurkers won't suss it out, I'm not sure how it effects guests?
Thanks for starting this thread dengyong! :D:clap: You have stirred things up!
After being a member on this forum for 12 years I felt compelled to post seeing the title of this thread. While many forums seem to be slowing down compared to other engagement options, I still very much see their value. I've researched many of my PC builds on this forum and it's a wealth of knowledge. I hope forums like XS live on for many more years. :)
I just wish we hadn't lost that database.
I wrote most of the details here on my mem cfg, and without it I have no clue what order my sticks of ram were in.
Kinda important when you got 4 sticks of ram to deal with, let alone 8 total.
To put it simply, I can't get my original mem setup 100% now, let alone with twice the sticks of ram.
Well I could but, it may take me a month's worth of messing about. (the time it takes to take out my vga to get to my ram, and then test each cfg, it's not like memtest is quick these days, and it's not even a good test...)
You live and learn I guess..
I knew ram ordering was important in the ddr1 days, but to go from 100% stable to iffyness because you forgot the order :\.
I don't know, it doesn't really matter.
I needed a bigger radiator anyways, cpu just get's too high in temps with a 2x140mm rad.
I've been gone for far too long, I'm just glad there's a forum to come back to. It seems many have left, but a lot of the old crew, and some of the most xtreme are still here!
It sucks that a database was lost, have you tried the internet archive, NEOAethyr? If you're lucky it might have saved your thread on archive.org. Has to be worth a try!
This forum still has a wealth of information on older hardware which you won't find anywhere else, CPU steppings, volt mods, exotic cooling..The whole history of overclocking really. It's becoming relevant again as more people get into "retro" computing and want to learn our old tricks. Like removing a resistor to unlock the extra pipelines on a Radeon 9500 *non* Pro and turn it into a 9700 Pro...Have you seen the price of 9700 Pro's lately, or tried to find one which still works?!
Intel is the one to blame for disabling overclocking, with a 2.6ghz cpu, overclocking it could get you close to 5.0ghz which was in turn almost 100%, nowadays overclocking has very low gains, for example the 9900k which has a turbo base clock of 5ghz one core, overclocking it gives you 5.2ghz maximum, that is only 4%, now imagine if the base clock was 5ghz and overclocking could get you 10ghz,
XS would have so many people asking how to get there because this like used to be would be reference. XS was and is a reference for overclocking but as overclock is almost dead, few people come here to learn or teach how to get the most of your cpu. So to summarize, before 2.6ghz to 5ghz and now 5ghz to 5.2ghz.
All core base clocks are still around 3.6ghz for the higher core count cpus, without EXOTIC cooling(like AIO PHASE or Chilled water),we wont be seeing 5.2 24/7 stable
My 8086k is only 6core 4ghz base after 7 years of running 4ghz+ 6c cpu,we are way ahead of the curve.
Most likely 1nm is when we will see 5ghz base part with more than 8cores ;)
the last 3 posts are not topic related !?
The topic is about (xs)ocing (in general) slowing down.
Unlocking pipes/shaders and increasing clocks is what again ?
Intel cpus slowly increased perf along w/price
Also speaking on being stuck @ 4ghz for a # of years is on topic
Amd didn't have anything to combat 4/5/6 series
Benching older hardware would sure bring back the fun times.
Where's all those old lian li cases w/phase change
I'm looking for a phase change system myself :D
read fromt the first post
I told why I believe xs slowed down and suggested clocking older hw to bring back the atmosphere
Responding to other post about the excitement we got from clocking older hardware shows why there was more going on then.
Amd has given us some hardware to unlock though 290x/rx480 and vega 56
But Zen doesn't clock like FX/Phenom2 so xtreme clocking like phase for an xtra 100mhz is not exciting :shakes:
My login still works & I can't believe I remembered my pw! Mostly a lurker but have been enjoying this forum since the early 2000's.
I do like seeing the familiar old names popping in.
775 socket...500 MHz FSB OC'ing FTW!
My first 5ghz back in 2010 YEA!

I have a gig ud3p that loves quads, i just hope she still works.
same same lika u - GA-EP45T-UD3P, you got me thinking, I haven't looked at it in many years.
Pins still good :toast:, just needs a little cleaning, not much.....

Check it out in action...
-50c at idle, Thanks Ron!

my thoughts
Things started changing and the bug really hit me with the lga 775's and when I came here. It was a little elitist and you even had to watch your spelling or you would be criticized...
But i knew that if you want to be the best you have to play with the best so i stayed. I remember Martins liquid lab, CyberDruid building his water cooling solutions, Ron (runmc) , Movieman and many many more.
We had some great rivalries that had respect on both sides of the game... It was that respect that was a keystone of the site.
We were all active breaking records, experimenting with new solutions to get more speed and just playing till someone figured it out....
and they would actually tell you how, no selfishness< I think we all knew it was a special time./
Then the x58's came out and it was still great but something started creeping into the sport, it was Money.
People started getting sponsors and the the cost to get tri sli cards or crossfire or even a single 4870x2 wasn't cheap but still affordable.
Motherboards were going up in price for the enthusiast market, the evga classy, or a UD10 started going up and up.
So then when the new equipment came out, immediately people were binning hardware or just buying lots of it and taking all the top spots.
I would look at my paycheck and see that all the top scores were saturated with the sponsored people and the well off. That wasn't me, so it was tough to spend
so much money and know I couldn't compete with them. Kinda took some wind out of my sails.
It was tough to pop a chip or blow a board,. That is when the league debates started and I just faded to another life,,,,
Remember the days of RedRider, lol RRR, everyone was wak.... But we were living large,, XS was supreme!
but i loved those times, so i'm going to try to relive some of them this winter and up my score now that a lot of the stuff is cheap enough to blow up.....
As for why things have thinned out, I think it's like someone said before, it's just progress. You can't squeeze much out of today's chips and the extreme ones cost a bundle.
My wife would kill me if I blew up a 600 chip or a 400 board. Plus I'm not going to beat the pro's i just don't have the time.
Maybe part of it is we are just getting older.
But there is still room to play and I like the idea of stepping back in history and doing what i couldn't before.....
so 478/479's, 775 and 1366's look out, SystemViper coming to over-volt the electrons in your world!
Sorry for the ramble it's getting late...
I look forward to rebuilding some old contacts....
thanks

Oh geez RRR that brings back memories.
Yea it was just so crazy that I knew someone would get a chuckle now about it...
I remember we even had some defectors to that loud mouth...
So I did a search if there was any traces of the infamous Real Red Raider and found this...
From an unnamed site....

They fight against each-other but both have sources of H20 info. RRR requires a thick skin so be warned.

Wow, unreal to see some of the old crew.
Been a long time since I've said hello. So "hi" and let's get it going again!
Goes to show that at least some of the old crew just lurks in the shadows.
CALL TO ACTION! - World Community Grid (WCG) - XtremeSystems`s HWbot and user base!
I got itchy and just couldn't sit around and do nothing, so this is me, for what ever that is.....\
I even made my first HWbot submission in over 6 years, so I'm not going to just complain or reminisce, sorry

Hi, I know that most of you don't know me or maybe you do, but i have never been one to keep my mouth shut or just sit around.
Well i say, no freakin way, we were once the keystone site for overclocking and we could be again. What we need is for our members to go to your teams forum and post something, anything, I know that we still have a strong user-base and reputation, I saw someone say XS is dead, well I call bull to that.
Common prove me wrong.... Let's not be what we were but grow to what we know we can be!
My son's off at college now so i have been planning for years to get back into overclocking. I came back and see they put up a parking lot....
I know many of us are still here but we need some posting, I am going to put a few posts in the various team forums, if we could get a post from the active members of those groups, it would be a start of getting reacquainted with our fellow XSers. Remember our journey starts with the first step...
Well i say - Make your post your first step, then you will start to see familiar faces and the snow flake will turn into a landslide, life happens.
So i am planting a seed here, it takes you to water it!
I think it will be nice for the groups to post first in their community thread, that is where the strongest bonds are, from there just branch out to what interests you.
Whoever said overclocking is dead isn't seeing the future, that 4870x2 that you always wanted to sli, well now their affordable, lots of cheap chips to blow up and best of all it won't cost you much but your time! Even the cutting edge tech will just take us to places we can't even imagine.... Is XS important to you?. Show us....
So what do you say? If not for me, then for Fugger and if not for him then for YOURSELF!
Don't tell me XS is dead, this thread has been up for 2 months and this is the stat - 96 replies | 7888 view(s)
8000 views in 2 months, what's that about
THANKS

This forum has started my interest in Hardware and overclocking back in the day. Been lurking forever in here !
I'll echo sentiments above... overclocking just ain't what it used to be. Now it's a consumerized product, and you need to pay extra to be able to do it well.
Not to get all "back in my day", but I can remember doing pencil mods and hacking/reflashing BIOS' to unlock better performance. Overclocking was a way for Main Street to get better speeds, but Wall Street has taken this round.
Hopefully it's cyclical though and will come back.
I woke this place up for a little while but it seems to be dying out again.
OMG Serra!
Good to see your again
