Junior is here

I was so eager to get my hand on this sweet little mobo, and now when it's finally here let me share few impressions on blitz:

good
1. excellent build quality - this mobo hasn't got anything to be a shame off for being a bit shorter than the rest of enthusiast mobos from DFI
2.Layout is just great. I was afraid that 'cos of chipset, and PWM heat
spreaders height I will not be able to install Scythe
"NINJA PLUS Rev.B! But, it sits excelent, and the best thing is that I don't need to use springs to atach fan on cooler! I simply use PWM and chipset heat spreader to support CPU fan ;)
3. BIOS is "clean and lean" nice to navigate, and easy to tweak.

1. there's option in BIOS to use Sideport and UMA memory , or just UMA, but there's no option to only use Sideport.
2. There's no option for changing NB multi :shrug:
3. No option to enable "CPU Tweak" from with in the BIOS

All in all I love the fact that there's no chokes squealing, and all works great...

Looking good! :up: What cooling are you using? Gonna try some HTT clocking to see if you can push it further?

Also what is the Performance of the HDD on the New SB750? I hope there is vast improvement over the SB600 for stability and data integrity sakes !

Also would you mind posting some benchmarks, Cinebench, Fritz and Particle's little custom benchmark? I'm trying to see if sticking in an X3 on my M2A-VM would be worth it as the cheapest upgrade

didn't do much on that field... only thing that I've noticed is that AHCI works w/o any problems... for almost a year now I have 790FX+SB600 combo and didn't noticed any stability or data integrity issues :shrug:

1.2V is the VID, and the real Vcore is 1.375, but under load mobo does slightingly overvolt, so the real voltage - If you believe ITE Smart Guardian is 1.4V

You know you have to hit F9 for all bios options? After that the only thing i really miss is NB VID or voltage.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but think that NB VID is labeled as NB Core in the BIOS.
Not sure though can would really appreciate it if someone helps me confirm this.

NB Core is the chipset part voltage. The CPU's part is labled CPU-NB VID on the 790FX if i remember correct.
After hitting F9 on the main page, it is possible to modify the CPU's and NB's FID's and DID's (multis) but not the VID's.
So if you select an cpu voltage in the bios it will be applied as an offset to the default VID's of both CPU and NB. Problem is the NB has lower voltage limits than the cpu. I have this board since a few weeks and think it's only pro is that it is mATX. But for that form factor i'd expect an lower pwm/chipset temp at stock than 70°C (without an extra fan in an desktop cube case with two case fan's).

BTW: Have you found the vCore points for the DMM on the Asus board?

This X3 8750 Black Edition is one amazingly cool CPU! Of course all kudos to mobo also, 'cos to get these temps you really need to have well designed PWM unit that will not heat-up CPU! Yeah Ninja Rev. B and OCZ's compound does help ;)

Latest beta bios:

I only used that one for overclocking. Higher NB multis worked but for the HT the max was 10x on a 9950BE.

Looking at your chipset temps it seems you have an different board. :rolleyes:
I get 70°C under prime95 load at stock with just an 9850BE cooler. With an 9cm fan blowing with 300RPM it are 50°C. That is the main cause why i don't like the board, no way to run that thing silent in an desktop cube case.

Well 2 of the dimms on my board stopped working so I rma'd it and got the 790FXB-M2RSH haha.
I've be wondering about the NB-VID thing for a while now too hopefully they'll add it in for later BIOS's.

It turns out that prime stable of this CPU is 3.2 GHz... well at least for all cores ;) two out of three cores are stable on 3.3 GHz... maybe even higher... but I need all three working as high as possible ;)

hey would you mind telling us you system setup and configurations? like bios, OS you're using, and what version AOD.....I have the same board with vista sp1 64bit and AOD keeps freezing up on me....

but, what's the fuss about this high temp of the chipset? It has the small passive heat sink, so it's expected to get this hot, and obviously designers of the chipset, and the mobo knew that, so this would be a feature, and not a problem ;)

edit. but after thinking about it i'm curious if it will work. Unlike other boards the vid's can not be changed by writing directly to the p-state-control register. On the other hand AOD can change the vid's so there is a way.

The GSkill 8000 Kit? Does the board support that kit? I could not get this kit working in 1066 mode on an gbt780a board. The 790GX seems to be alot more sensible to memory timings than the 790FX. Testing 4x1GB GSkill 8500PK's and 4x1GB Kingston Hyper X here and I can not get em stable in 1066 mode. The only kit i had no problems with are the Tracers, even four of em work fine in all boards.

If ordered an Thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI hope that will solve the temperature problem.
Lot of plastic on that QPack2 case I don't wanna melt that in the summer. Also it's not a digital pwm those are designed to work at 100°C, so i expect it will have a reduced life time due to those high temps.
