Zalman7000 and other cpu coolers on x1800xt and GTX

Theres still plenty of cooling area when abuut 20% of the finns are shortened. And thats just the one piece from the "L" shape. The postivite thing with the 7000 series is that theres matching mounting holes that the cards have. You dont have to be a McGyver to mount the cooler.

Some results on x1800xt + 7000al-cu:

The temperatures went way low and the noise too. With the stock hsf my idle temperatures were about 55c with stock 2D clocks and stock voltages.

Now with 7000Al-Cu stresstemperatures with 690/800 and 1.5v on the core are about 54-55c max

The clocks didnt go that much higher from before cus i got quite a crappy clocker.. with 765/900 i broke 11k in 3dmark05.

The load temps are the same as with 690/800 somewhere around 55-59c with 23c ambient. I use arctic silver 5 so maybe the temps get a little lower after some time.

I have zalman blue aluminium heatsinks on the mem glued with AS5.

The cooler looks A LOT better on the radeon than with the geforce. Unfortunately i dont have the camera here anymore. I should buy me one.

The temps are with the fan spinning @ full speed, but still its not as loud as the original hsf. I use it normally somewhere around 5volts and cant hear it through the case.

Went down ti the local stores ti get this Zalman7000. No one had them in stock. Damn.
Have to get it from somewhere else.
Sume4 -You have no probs with the weight of the cooler when it is mounted in the PCI-E slot? It doesnt feel like it is too much for the PCB?

No i dont have any problems. Obviously the Al-Cu version weights a lot less than the full CU version. I could make something to support some of the weight but havent desided how to do it. I got BTX style case so the fan doesnt interfere with the mobo but with regular ATX style case it could interfere with teh pci-e slot, atleast on this Expert mobo.

Im using a DFI SLI-D mobo in an Antec SLK3800B-EC.

Does 7000Series Zalman fit on R480 WITHOUT any advanced holes?

In a BTX style case everything is upside down like my Lian Li...

The card bends a little under the weight of the cooler and in ATX case + DFI Expert mobo the fan will interfere with the lower pci-e slot. In BTX case where everything is upside down it doesnt.

I think with "normal" DFI NF4 mobo you dont have the problem. But you can always get something to hold the card straight.

It sure is a bit extreme this, if the card is bending.
Hmmm making second thoughts if this is a good idea? Sure dont want to ruin this very nice card.

You say there will be a problem with the fan and a DFI Expert mobo. I didnt thought there was so much of a difference from Expert to NF4 SLI-D which is the mobo I have.

It actually doesnt bend THAT much that there would be any issues. Its just that in BTX the fan is near the pci-e slot and ATX it interferes. Macci had a 7000B Cu on his x1800xt with normal DFI NF4 board and the fan went in the middle of the slots so there was no problem.

I wanna see you get a big typhoon on it. :)

I doubt it fits. Bicuus of the ~120mm diameter.

Something like that will not bend much right away but over time the card will warp a little bit. I have a 9700 Pro with a pure copper AMD cpu heatsink on it that is pretty heavy. The card works great but after 2 years of the heatsink pulling on the card it is kinda bent. lol

You dont need the zalman 7000 cpu adapter. You have the mounting holes in the cooler itself and you need couple of bolts, nuts, and washers to mount the cooler.

Or VF700 mountings.

done some month before on a 7800 gt , it need a fix on the back of the card to report forces behind the gpu, with only screw the card is too heavily squized

I had to cut some fins off the Zalman so it could enter the slot. Otherwise it will touch with the other PCI-e slot.

my sp-94 brought my load down to 40c BTW, thats from 60C on the VF-400, over 70c stock.

It looks like the fan is very close to the other expansionslots?
Have some tried it with a X1800XT, DFI SLI-D mobo using PCI-E 1?

Theres so much fins that theyl eventually get involved with the fan. And i think its a little hard to bend that many fins. Correct me if im wrong.

I would really like to get this straight befire ordering the HSF.

Sume4 I can se you are using the DFI SLI-D board. Is there any problems with the fan interfering with the other slots?

yes to much fins , in my case (asrock dual) i had to reduce the pales (don(t know in english sry) of the zalman too, but the temp is really incredible; i thank ther is something buggy:never go up to 31 °c @stock but not: after oc 500 /1190 ti went to 38 in load , tested in load in passive 2h 86° no shutdown but i think it's a bit too much :p:

Hm i dont get it really, i have now bought a Zalman7000.
I will get it on Friday..
But how the hell should i mount it? Does it really work with the VF700 mountings?

And one more, how much lower temps did you guys got when swiching to this from VF700?

I got the SLI-DR Expert which has a different layout :( But ive seen a picture by Macci where the card is on "normal" DFI NF4. The fan goes in the middle of the slots on that version.

hmm just got the Zalman7000alcu.
First of all. It doesnt fit 100% with the mounting holes on the PCB.
And I dont think im going to cut anything off the heatsink, because the way I see it, the fan will hit the PCI-slots?
Waste of money. I also got some nice copper heatsink for the ram. No use of them either.

I have now mounted the cooler on my card and it works great!

bAdboLL sweet pics you got there. That XFX card is nice because of that side thingy supporting the card from bending.

I ran 3Dmark06 today with clocks 796/910mhz with NO artifacts \o/ 800+/910 could be nice :)

.... I had my window open and its -22c outside. Oh and cpu running 3.1Ghz with aircooling.

If you see the last pic in #28 you will see the fan goes below the slot.
Some say the fan will go between the slots? On almost every mobo the are resitors etc. between the slots??.
The PCI slots are also a bit higher than PCI-E slots. So I just couldnt se how it would fit in my mobo (DFI SLI-D)
On the DFI SLI-D EXpert there are more space between the PCI-E slots. This is maybe the reason for Sume4 to have succeeded.
I would like to hear from someone with a DFI SLI-D if they have mounted the Zalman?

I only have the 1.5V bios mod but i couldnt OC any higher with this cooler than with my vf700 =/
Even though the temps lowered by ~15c in load. Thats with a 20 mhz delta, maby i should try with 0 delta again?

Now when i have good cooling, 1.6 or 1.7V hardmod should be pretty safe right?

You should be fine at that voltage. ViperJohn says he runs his aircooled 7800GTs at 1.6V and his watercooled GTs at 1.66V. That's for 24/7 use so you could probably go higher for strictly benching.

I tried to mount that 4400 stock cooler before I changed it to the Zalman...
I had it test mounted and it looked rather nice and I knew fitting the Zalman would result in a major operation... :D

But I'm more then happy with my Zalman as it is now.... :toast:

What are your idle/load temps and with what clocks/voltages. Though theres prolly not that much help for me cus im running a X1800XT which runs warmer. Wonder how much there would be difference with 9500cu and this 7000Al-Cu.

Clock speeds are 500/1350 for 24/7 usage on stock volts... idle 37C, under 2 hours of full load 50-51C.. GPU ambient temperature is 31C... room temperature 20C

Upping the core to 520 will increase the load temps by 1-2C... unfortunatley anything above 520 requires more volts..

On my GT with the 7000AlCu at 525/1240 1.5vGPU at full load with ambient temperature of 30 C I never go beyond 54 degrees.

LOL i thought i had a bad overclocker GTX. Mine did something like 565/1380 with stock volts. Not with 20c ambient though.. somewhere around 10c. With 7000Al-Cu

Heh, last night i ruined my VF700 by trimming the surrounding tabs of the fins and throwing a 120mm fan on top of it all (a little offset so it didn't hit the MB/PCI slots.). Well it mechanically worked okay, but my temps sucked afterwards... so don't do what i did lol

Then, I took my XP-90 cooler, removed the retaining clips, and slotted the screw hole that holds the retaining clips. It fit perfect on my card, using the zalmans hardware.. but didn't fit in the case; the heat pipes keep it from going all the way into the PCI-E slot. It looks so nice though, such a shame.

Being bored, and feeling like creating something, i now need a new cooler for my x1800 xl :(

I had the windows open today and the ambient temp was ~14-15C... same thing... artifacts above 520Mhz.. :slapass:

Tried just about everything.. switched power cables, lowered ambient temps, killed all unneeded processes, unhooked devices to dedicate all the power to the GPU but it simply fails at 520+Mhz... :(

I mounted the CNPS-7000B-Cu to my X1800XT massive improvements .... >:)

Temps : stock idle = 57~60C / Zalman 35~38C

Stock max core = 710 mem = 830
With Zalman max core = 755 mem = 875

Both with stock voltage :)

Had to cut the fan blades a bit though they where hitting the other pci-x slot but solved nicely :)

Im using some Revoltec BGA RAM FREEZER Cooper Edition for my ram, but they are begining to fall off. What would be the best ramheatsinks to mount?
And is it a good idea to use Thermal Adhesive, and is it posible to get the ramheatsinks off again if using adhesive?

AS5 is a quite tough stuff for add on those small heatsinks.

BTW im prolly modding my Zalman 9500Cu LED to fit my X1800XT now when i have a 3x120mm radiator on my cpu. No need for aircooling for my cpu now when i have a radiator that fits my case.

Can i put a 7000b full CU(745g) or i have to put the al-cu(445g) version on my 1800xt.Because i have a 7000b full cu so...i d be happy if it work! thx

so u guys are just using the mounting from the vf700 to fit the 7000? i got already a vf700alcu might as well get the 7000alcu or what others are also compatible with the vf700 mounting?

ya i saw that but thats on a nv card, ati has different spacing, but i see up there that it fits ati also
