New Zalman cooler (VF900 DUAL HEATPIPES)
-
Well, do you actually have ANY results or is just straying from the news section?
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...91&postcount=7
-
If you ask me, any aftermarket cooler that dumps inside the case is not the best design/performance. Still, this one looks better than the others.
-
OMG. :woot:
I think i've found my new cooler for my X1800...

im the same.
in the first pic, there are 2 sinks...do they both go on the card somehow?? or is one an LED fan vs the regular black fan?
-
that is a Damn nice little heatsink. :)
I am always stoked to see how much the Zalman company is willing to try new things + Keep thier hardware as Quiet as possible.
-
I wonder how this will fare against the Accelero from Arctic Cooling. If anyone has any results from an overclocked X1800XT please do post.
-
Thats what i'm waiting for. If i dont go watercooling by the end of this month then it'll be one of these coolers depending on which one is more efficient

These look really really nice. I can't wait to snag one.
-
another dust buster.....or collector....depends how you look at it
-
-
wow, looks like a solid little cooler design.
dust collector probably though...

Anybody got one of these on hand? Looks like a nice solid design.

Looking good....
It good be the angle the pics are taken from but it looks like their not that high as the VF700 series.. Which could be interesting for SLI/Crossfire setups..

Dont think it will make such a big improvement over the VF700

5C @ same RPM / noise levels?

I think it will perform within 2-3c of the VF700 (higher or lower). It's main improvement is that it can offer VF700 performance at lower noise levels and at a lower profile (SLI).

Still not as good as my Zalman cnps7000Al-Cu on my GPU :p:
-
it would be nice if they released an OC edition as well :)
with 7K rpm fan that is :D
-
When we these be on sale, i want to buy the 700, now, but if this is out soon ill wait for it.

Sume4
Have you actually mounted a 7000 CPU cooler on your X1800XT.
If sp what are your results? And did it fit perfectly? some pictures would be nice.
-
Does it work in BTX format? I guess it does...
-
i would like pics of that 7000alcu too
as im putting mine on an x800pro :)
-
Il put some pics tomorrow when i got a digital camera..hopefully. And the zalman IS ON GEFORCE 7800GTX now cus im too afraid to void the warranty atm. Propably on weekend when i got few beers having a party in my head ill fit it on XT.
But as i said the mounting is EXACTLY the same on x1800xt. You just need vf700 mountings and the 7000Al-Cu or Cu.
And i have a BTX case. The geforce looked like a  when i had it in the case :D Prolly have to make something to hold the radeon properly.
-
I personally never liked arctic cooling silencers... I think they're overrated, and I've always wanted to try a Zalman VF series... just never got to it.
-
ive got a thermalright SP-94 on my X800gto right now... its about 20c colder then my VF-700... the card overclocked to 600mhz stays under 40c...
while i prefer modding my old heatsinks for videocard use (XP-90 will probably end up on next card) this is a great alternative and to me it would be my first choice. even if the eccelero performs a bit better, this is a better design imo.
-
I have a modded SK7 that will fit any 9500/9700/X800/X850 card so far. It kicks major butt with my 70mm TMD fan. :)
-
5 Attachment(s)
Pictures if anyone is interested.
-
Thats ghetto:D
In the last pic, it looks like as if the card is bent a bit

I really want to do this. My VF700 just isn't cutting it. Do you have to bend the fins on the 7000? Please post pics!
-
So I have to buy both a VF700 for the mountings? and then the 7000Al-Cu?
-
Beautiful dissy!! When in shops?

your right about that, thats how i ensure good contact.... theres a shim there for a reason. :D

Hey Sen!
And this is the man that I bought the SK7 off of that mounts to almost all Radeon cards from 9000 series and up.
Sry, Sen, but last time I used it was when I was testing out that bundle of GTO²s that I bought 2 months ago. :)
Have any of you guys tried drilling 2 holes and threading the heatsinks? You can then bolt down the heatsinks instead of ruining the fins... not to say that the sp94 doesn't look sexy on that card! :) I guess I should kept my old thermalright heatsinks...
-
Someone should really produce like XP90's, or similar to fit on video cards
I imagine if they made 2 varients, 1 to fit on the 7800 and 1 to fit X1800's, they would sell like hotcakes.:)
-
hey sume4, do you think a 7700 would fit on a gtx? got one here staring at me! :D
-
What are the results after mounting the Zalman 7000?

You would most likely be able to do it, but you must realize that a big copper heatsink is REALLY heavy, and you can crack your PCB in doing so.
If you plan on being the first to try a bigger copper heatsink, you may want to create some sort of support for the PCB. One little crack and you will ruin many traces. =/
-
any such thing as a release date or even a preview of this new cooler?

You´d propably have to remove the fan and cut A LOT off from the finns to fit it and get it to not interfere the mobo. I had to bend the already shortened fins because there is a high condensator on the DFI Expert, so basically the con is in the middle of the fins.
If you dont get the fan out from you 7700 it will not go in. Maybe get rid of the original fan and mount a high cfm 92 fan on it.
And yeah the card could be seriously bent if there would be no support.

The GTX went from 540/1360 vf700cu(with cold air) to 560/1390 7000Al-Cu (with warm air). I dont really remember the vf700cu temperatures but they were something like 47c idle W/vf700cu and with 7000Al-Cu 40c idle with AS5 that hasnt settled yet.
I didnt check the stress temperatures, but there should be a huge difference.
Btw macci mounted a 7000Cu before but i lost the pictures and he doesnt have those on his website anymore.
And the mounting holes in 7000series zalman match the holes in GTX and X1800XT.
-
So there would be no problem at all mounting the Zalman7000 to a X1800XT? What is used on the back of the PCB for mounting the heaksink?
-
I would go with a square type cooler instead of the round one to not have to cut fins and also not have to worry about removing a fan.

Theres still plenty of cooling area when abuut 20% of the finns are shortened. And thats just the one piece from the "L" shape. The postivite thing with the 7000 series is that theres matching mounting holes that the cards have. You dont have to be a McGyver to mount the cooler.
Any new news about the zalman vf900cu? :fact:

Really... It just works just like that? Nothing extra whatsoever?
I wonder what this vf900 would go for the cheapest... no wonder why ewiz was selling at $27 shipped the other day for the 700 series.
-
I dont really understand..
Shall i use the fan from VF700 and connect it to the 7000?
I think i want to do this on my 7800GT if it works =)

No, you can use the whole 7000 cooler and can connect it to your card. the mounting holes from 7000 cooler will fit on x1800 and gt/gtx cards like some people said before.

Now with 7000Al-Cu stresstemperatures with 690/800 and 1.5v on the core are about 54-55c max
The clocks didnt go that much higher from before cus i got quite a crappy clocker.. with 765/900 i broke 11k in 3dmark05.

Does this warp/bend the X1800XT at all? Have any issues installing it in a case?
-
will this heatpipe work fine in a ATX case
won't it need a BTX ccase to work perfectly ??
i think this is useless for normal case where the vga card is upside down
-
Nice results on the Zalman there.
Iam in the process of asking ViperJohn about his heatsinks. Might end up getting his cooler, with his kick ass ramsinks.:) install myself.
-
Sume4
that is what we have been looking for.
But why are you running 1,5V with 690/800?
I run 765/900? That is very impressive I think. What are your loadtemps at these speeds?

The load speeds are the same as with 690/800 somewhere around 55-59c with 23c ambient. I use arctic silver 5 so maybe the temps get a little lower after some time.
I have zalman blue aluminium heatsinks on the mem glued with AS5.
The cooler looks A LOT better on the radeon than with the geforce. Unfortunately i dont have the camera here anymore. I should buy me one.
The temps are with the fan spinning @ full speed, but still its not as loud as the original hsf. I use it normally somewhere around 5volts and cant hear it through the case.
-
Thanx alot Sume4.
Ill be getting one tomorrow.
Just to make it clear: There are everything included in the package to mount it on the X1800XT? Still a little confused about the back of the gfx-card? Normally if mounting the CPU you will use the backplate that comes with the cooler. What are you using when mountinmg it to the X1800XT?

hey you can keep your ears clean too!

So the Zalman7000B works without any modifacations at all?
Just to put it on 7800GT or GTX?
Thats very nice if thats right, will it lower my temps from the VF700 anything?

That is awesome, amazing clocks.
I have a Stock A64 heatsink sittng around doing nothing, how would that cool the XT?
Wonder if i could ship it to someone and they could mod it for me?

So i got the VF700 mountings on the x1800xt and you just have to apply some thermal paste and use the bolts that came with the vf700 and mount the 7000 on the card.
Prolly you can mount it also with just a couple of bolts and nuts. But some backplate would be nice with that also so the card doestn bend that much.
Me wantsii some results with teh vf900:fact:
Oh yeah and ofcourse you have to cut abuut 30 of the finns shorter to get it fit.
-
Ok!
But i dont think i will be able to clock any higher, but i dont know :)
Is it worth around $25 to buy a 7000Alcu instead of my VF700?
-
hmm
So I have to get both a VF700 and a 7000?

Or just the 7000 and use some intuition.

VF700 is more foolproof.

Frick, all these pics are awsome...I'm always looking for options for custom air cooling...and I LOVE the look of the 7000's on these cards...even if I had to support it from underneath I'd love to see the performance of a 7000CU on a GTX and/or 1800XT. :D
-
nice sink jort, your is a lot cleaner then mine, the heatpipes get in the way of the ati mounting so fastening it without pcb damage was my top priority.

I wish i had the cam now cus the 7000 with blue zalman memsinks looks A LOT sexier on the X1800XT than with teh GTX.
Should we have another thread about this thing without offtopicking the VF900 thread.
I made a thread for talking about mounting cpu coolers on GPUs HERE: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=1#post1236921
So lets continue it there ok.
