Finally got up the nerves to pull my 630 out and take a pic so if any1 could host pls PM me your email addy and I will send the pic.
This is referring to a mod I did on a Dell 8400 to make my p4 630 run at a 1066 fsb and 4 ghz :)

630 can do 4ghz quite easily...i dont see the point ??
But yea, that's what you get for buying a dell instead of getting an overclocking mobo :D

Stop calling your damn 630 an EE.
The point is being able to pay $350 for a loaded system or $650 for a loaded system + 2 17" LCDs and still getting the performance boost, by finding a way to OC. Yah sure you can take the easy way out and buy a mobo for $200+ that will change voltage, fsb, and even multipliers on some chips and have it easy but what would be the fun of that?
For example Dell just had a 9100 you could purchase for around $700 that included:
17" LCD
955 chipset mobo
p4 630
geforce 6800
1 gig ddr2 533 fsb
160 gig SATA HD
DVD burner + more such as WinXP
and for those that want to get a very nice system for $700ish, you can't do better than the above especially considering the 630 will OC to 4 ghz. Or alternatively you could get an 820 that might be able to hit 3.73 ghz
And sure solder modding a mobo takes some ballz, but when was the last time you saw some1 solder a processor? Probably back in the slot A days when you were soldering on the PCB

Go to intel's website and look at the white sheet for p4.
FSB is determined by the settings of BSEL0, BSEL1 and BSEL2
for 800 fsb they are L H L respectively (L = low resistance/grounded, H = high resistance)
for 1066 fsb they are L L L so you have to ground BSEL1, therefore you can make a connection between BSEL1 and BSEL2 to ground BSEL1.
My original idea for doing this was to use a conductive pen. I ran this by my brother in law who has a masters in electrical engineering, and he thought those pens were crap. He then proceeded to just solder the two contacts on the processor. Throw the processor back in the mobo and you have 4 ghz. Note we were also able to undo the solder (It didn't boot the first time, but I later figured out the mobo wasn't put back properly and Dell's don't like this - solder was redone and it has been at 4 ghz since).
Oh and I wouldn't call an OCed 3800+ an FX and the like, but thats cuz FX's OC like crazy and use different silicone. The EE's however don't OC that much better than the 6xx series processors anyways. :banana: :banana: Sour Grapes to those who shell out for the EE :slap:

This works for any 6** cpu, I don't know about 5** cpu's; you have to take a look at the datasheets at intel.com

sorry to revive an old thread, but is there any difference in terms of stability and performance to modding the cpu to run on 1066fsb in comparrison to raising the fsb to 1066 in the bios?
He did the mod because dell boards dont have FSB adjust option in the bios.
Does anyone know if the same BSEL mod works on a dual core Pentium D?

like he old skt a days i did that on a few of my procs when i had a kt600 junk oc mobo (i loved that board fast and stable) and hell it took a few shots to get it right where you wanted it to be stable as fare and voltages and such but other then that worked great...this seems to be the the new tech way of doing it...stupid question would this work on A64's?

I wanna warn that on p5wd2 premium mobo this trick doen't work :) (BSEL1 isolate).
(i have an 630 that could works up to 4280 on default voltage & chek it)
hmmm, thats is troubling since the mobo supports 266 fsb processors, oh and you shouldn't be isolating a pin but instead grounding it.
It would also be nice if you could post the pic Markodude as mine is fairly crappy :)
I tried to put a tiny wire in the 775 socket on a P5WD2-Premium i have measured the impedance it was ok (strap),also had to rise manualy the fsb to 266 but it did not worked It get stuck after 20 seconds of win xp sp2 Though i managed to get a small prt scr of the generall my compwith 4.01 ghz.I have a P4 630 on the machine.I am an in microelectronic business so soldering would not be a problem but i dont want to do that because the proc.is new and i will lose warranty and any chance of upgrade.So my questions are:Does it work on the board i have.P5WD2-Premium.Does it have to be recognized by the moatherboard with a default fsb 266(on auto settings) or i have to change that manually.and final question:Is this a Overclock like rising the fsb manually? or "transforming phisically" the fsb on the processor effectively to 266mhz.
