Heh, maybe they finally made a board that's at least by specs is able to compete with DFI (on paper, the Vdimm is looking nice :rolleyes: - although I didn't find it mentioned anywhere on Abit's website)? Would be nice, actually, otherwise I'm already getting tired of DFI nF4 boards all over in people's sigs everywhere :D

I don't like it. Sure it can go upto 3.55 vdimm which means it's running off the 5v rail, so you can't do the 3.3vrail = vdimm mod = less stable vdimm and overheating ram mosfet.

Also, the dimm slots themselves are so close together, with few surface mount capacitors/resistors between each other. DFI boards have more, and have always overclocked the highest.

Edit: Also, the 16x PCIe slots are too close together, only the Asus SLI board has it setup perfectly :(

The only good thing about this board is the OTES, but then again I bet the crappy fans will get loud after a few months.

Ya I'd like to see them back in business too, but I have serious doubts, especially since Oskar Wu left Abit and joined DFI.

I have hope for Abit because at least they USED to make great OCing boards. Sapphire I have no hope at all since they've never even made a mobo before.

doesnt look nice to me, poor cmos battery placement, bios chip is poor, ram dimm spacing is bad, will overheat middle sticks very easy,

ill admit though the placement of the ide ports and sata ports is good.

I like the Layout of the Abit Better. Look the Power circuit on the DFI is infront of the CPU socket, and in all the systems I build the Case air flow go's from front to back.
I Like the Otus crappy fans or not it removes the heat generated around the CPU socket.

The NB looks like thay are in the same place., and Who Uses 4 dimms running 5,2,2,2.0 @ 3.5V??

The supplied ram air cooler will work on the average Ram overclocking using 4 dimms.

I like DFI I have had about 10 DFI boards, the Best boards I have owned. But If Abit can come out with like Volytage options and some Decent forum support ,The layout of the board seems fine.

thats look like a nice board, he can join the dfi 939 boards and be one of the best bords for that socket, but i think that we should wait for a benchmark results.
i have a feeling thet the dfi 939 will be like inspiration for all the manufacturers so i will not be surprise if asus/epox and more will release boards that can give us high voltage.

i dont like the otes because use small fans at high rpm and eventually they will go louder or die so i dont like that....

the layout dimms are too close if you have vx they are going to run quite high...

Anyone else think ABit is getting cheap with regards to their caps? I know they are still Rubycon, but they look damn small compared to the ones on the IC7. I used one on my friend's computer and I was shocked to see how small the components are. 110 plus vat, how much is that in US dollars? No need for SLI, I'm an ATI guy. ANyone know when the Ultra is coming out?? Does this mean the regular AN8 and AN8 Fatality nonSLI will get discontinued?

The only reason for DFI making the 3.3/5V switch is because the nF4 series uses a linear VRM for Vddr. That means that a lot of heat is being dissipated on the MOSFETs in order to lower the voltage from 3.3V/5V rail to whatever voltage is the RAM working at.

Abit's Vddr uses a switching (PWM) VRM... like the one used for Vcore. It's quite efficent, and DOES NOT dissipate a lot of heat... nowhere near of what DFI's VRM is dissipating. The only downside is that the voltage is not as "clean" as that of the DFI (switching VRMs need a lot of caps to provide non oscilating voltage). But I'm sure there won't be such problems with the AN8 Fatal1ty SLi board... you can see a lot of caps near the Vddr VRM.

But I doubt it can be a serious contestant... the main problem is the BIOS. It lacks a lot of tweaking options for DRAM. :)

god I hate trying to figure out what SLI board does what, when theres 3 different versions of the same board... one has SLI, one Doesn't, another one looks like it supports SLI, but can only support 2 videocards... another has a built in microwave, another one does your lawn when you turn it off, the other one comes in a glow in the dark color...

Hey Kunnak, if they made just one, a few of us may not be able to afford a full blown board. Do you think it is right tht through the preduction of just one board tht some peeps like myself would be outpriced, making the board an exclusive accessory?

I would still stick with an Ultra-D. In order to get that vdimm you will need to dish out the cash for that board, which is a Fatal1ty first of all ($$$), and also, its an SLI board which means you can't get a simple Ultra board to overclock and have a good time on, you need to get the SLI. What abou people who don't want SLI? I guess if it is affordable then sure, but I would stick with the DFI. Will be nice to see Abit do something nice, like the NF7 for the axp. Looking forward to performance and comparisons.

Whoa i just saw the uguru panel on the inq article. Holy guacamole that thing looks sweet, but still I think its making overclocking more mainstream for noobs. That might be on some alienwares in the future :(

I don't understand what VAT is I assume it may be tax. But converting the currency 110 comes out to $201.50 US and converting 129.25 comes out to $236.80. So I would assume given the price of the current Fatality of around $200 I would say the price will probably be closer to the $230 mark. It won't be cheap thats for sure.

A simple monetary conversion is not enough because PC parts are more expensive in some parts of the world. What you can do is compare to other similiar (preferably by the same brand) boards in that same store, and then check the prices for the boards you used for comparison in your local store.

For example AN8 SLI is 10% more than the AN8 (both Fatal1ty), so it would cost around $185 + $18.5 ~ $200 at newegg.

Another thing is that the price is not final yet, it should take a few days/weeks for the stock and price to normalize.

Yes, i've seen that, but it doesn't say anything about the Fatal1ty AN8 2.0, and on abit's site there is AN8 2.0 info up.. but not any info about the Fatal1ty AN8 being released as 2.0 ... so i don't know, but i think that it would be strange if it won't be released as a 2.0 ..

I guess the Fatal1ty based on the nForce4 Ultra will be discontinued. The AN8 Ultra and Fatal1ty SLI will be the 2 more popular ones in the series.

better wait for AN8 ultra... coz AN8 fatal1ty only limite vdimm to 2.8V :(

and.... both AN8 ultra & Fatal1ty SLi bios support start from version 13...

they should have same vdimm voltage .......

Got the Fatality AN8-SLI :D Cost here in Australia was 360 AUS$

Board booted up fine straight off, no cold boot problems like the DFI NF4-SLI that I have been trying to get stable for the last week :mad:

Still getting it set up atm and haven't tried any oc as yet. The bios does have a fair amount of options for tweaking the ram timings.

Have to see how my Venice 3500 will go on this board with Geil UltraX 4400.

have you tried some sort of overclock? could you confirm the values anticipated from tictac for Vdimm, Vtt voltage/divider?
however the fact that the board boots up fine straight off without being afflicted with cold boot problems is a great news! :D

Does anyone find any pics or specs about ram settings ?
If it has all the ones DFI has then this ones seems good.
Natural born tweakers want ALL options so the limit finally is hardware instead of software.
I think more DDR1 based mb's will come with higher dimm volt cuz from what you read on forum then DDR1 is not getting new chips, they dont develop new ones so i think we have to live with UTT until DDR2 is going to take over.

But i could be wrong about this.

there is weird memory divider option in the bios

DDR366
DDR400 : should be 1:1
DDR433
DDR466
DDR500

HTT @ 200MHz
setting DDR clock divider to DDR500 ...
cpuz will show it is running at 130MHz speed
but sandra give 6100mb/sec unbuf score

setting DDR clock divider to DDR400 will give lower sandra score

so is it possible to run memory clock higher than htt clock on a64 rig...

As far as I understood with my long-not-used German, it seems they're having problems with the bios being incomplete or buggy written - as soon as they up HTT/FSB and simultaneously Vdimm in bios, the system completely locks up.

I'd be not so sure about it. According to the thread tictac linked to, the guys are having all kinds of problems - random BSOD's, reboots etc. One said, he was able to run his FX-55 on a DFI up to 3.2Ghz, but was not able to post on the Abit at all. He tried also a Venice and that lost tons of mhz on the Abit bord as well.

Yet as far as I understood all those problems might be buggy bios related. Or might be not :hehe:

The AN8 Fatal1ty is already OVERPRICED at $185USD, if the SLI model is $235USD, why choose Abit over DFI???
If anything, the Abit should be cheaper than the DFI.

So far, the Abit seems to be very buggy. A bit disappointing really since the Abit has so much more development time than the DFI. I guess this is what happens when the finances are going down the drain and they had to let people go.

DFI did a strategy step.....We - most of as if not all - knew DFI as a cheepy company with low end mobos - at least here in Hellas - .....Nowadays and after the incoming of THE engineer into DFI, I wonder IF there are ppl out there that they don't know them....It has become on of the most competitive company out there..... ;)

ABIT on the other hand, have lost THE engineer and now they are trying to find out what to do!.......I do not want to talk about ASUS though coz they got THE name and the reputation and they still are inside the game......And you know what?......They are in the game since the old days and they still keep on...... ;)

I think that ABIT is losing a bit the game nowadays.......BUT from time to time, they always come up with something good....They are not losers...They are fighters..... ;)

All of the mobos are some kind of buggy.....Wins the less buggier one.... ;)
