TIPS
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: you have to disable cool n quiet when ocing
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: disable fast writes
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: if you have problems to boot or get your system stable at very low cpu temps try the beta bios 1009.002 or a newer bios version
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: bios 1008 might cause prime95 instability, get the latest bios
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: you need bios 1007.xx or later to get a winchester 90nm cpu working on this board
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: if you have a winchester and your current bios doesnt support it use 1 stick of ram (in slot B1)
then boot from a floppy and flash to 1007 or newer:
1. power down your system
2. Reset cmos
3. boot from a bootable floppy
4. use another floppy with the new bios and the AFUdos.exe program on it
5. type at the A prompt: afudos.exe /ia8v1007.ami
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: 1007 seems to give some people problems with the agp/pci locks, use 1008.002 or later
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: thermaltake xp120 and corsair xl pro wont fit on this board
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: use the promise ide controller when ocing, the via controller is rumored to get unstable when ocing (not locked?)
if you are using the via controller already and want to switch to the promise controller follow this short guide:
1. Copy the PROMISE SATA drivers to a floppy.
2. Turn off your computer and switch your HDD to the PROMISE controller
3. Turn on goto the BIOS ; Advanced > OnBoard Devices Configuration > Onboard Promise Controller [Enabled] > Operating Mode [IDE]
4. In the BIOSchange Boot priority to CD and exit BIOS
5. Pop in your XP CD and press F6 (look carefully for the message at the bottom of the screen)
6. Pop in your Floppy and let XP copy the PROMISE Drivers.
7. Exit install when asked for.
If the above method doesn't work, follow the same steps only let XP repair the existing installation. You should not lose any data.
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: you need a fan connected to the cpu fan slot
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: if your having stability problems unplug low speed fans, low rpms are rumored to make the board unstable
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: if your board has no working locks try to enable them with a hacked bios, works for some boards
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: if you have problems booting with one stick try it in slot3 (counting away from the cpu socket)
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: 1007 seems to give some people problems with the agp/pci locks, use 1008.002 or later
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/atta...id=20351&stc=1TIP: bios 1009 beta seems to have coldboot and stability issues above 240fsb (no lock?)

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe Questions
I couldn't get the booster past 2.88v in slot 1 . haven't tried slot 3 yet because it touches the ram cover in slot 2.
Asus A8V Deluxe a good motherboard?
Hi Guys,
I am new here. I came here because you guys are the best, and know all the newest hardware on the market and I need a little help.
I am building a CAD system that will be running stock. I need the most reliable motherboard solution on the market. I could go with socket 940 or 939. I like Asus stuff, but Wrench tells me that people have problems with the A8V Deluxe motherboard. I am also looking at MSI and Abit as motherboard suppliers. What is your guys experience with these motherboards? What do you recommend as the most stable, trouble-free board?
Thanks for your input!

Asus A8V Deluxe & Athlon 64 3500+
First off, I would like to say thanks so far. I stumbled upon XtremeSystems about a week ago, when searching for the best forums for overclocking, with a community that knows what they are talking about. While waiting for my activation, so I can post, I read hours and hours of topics on overclocking, some making me nervous, and some making me think "this shouldn't be too bad".
I buy a computer system once every 2 years to try to keep on top of things, and keep up on computer systems as much as I can. I run a part time home business from my home, building computers for people for an affordable price. The problem is, I have never dabbled in OC'ing, and see now its not about "click this, enable that, do this", but more a work of art, to achieve a balance between heat and performance. Even after a few days of research, I am still a bit scared to start the OC'ing. I have read the typical 'I burned my :banana::banana::banana: up!' all the way to 'it was fairly easy, smooth going, and machine runs great!'. I am hoping to fall in the middle somewhere :D
Before I start, let me give you guys a break down of equipment.
My System
Motherboard
Asus A8V Deluxe
Processor
Athlon 64 3500+
CPU Heatsink
Ultra Vortex KCC-V91
Memory
Kingston 512MBx2 PC3200 (HyperX) DDR RAM - CL2 (1 gig)
Hard Drives
2x 36GB|WD 10K RPM WD360GD 8MB SATA
Case
Wave Master TAC-T01
(I only give case information, for airflow reason?)
I believe that’s all the information you need. If not, please tell me, and I will post it asap. I have NOT hooked this machine up, its all sitting in boxes at my feet, because I am waiting on my CPU cooler, that should be arriving Friday, but thought I would start my post now, so by then, I am armed with some information.
This post is just a standard "Help me, I am a newb" post, and I guess I am just trying to get some insite as to what I should do first. Am I starting in over my head? And if so, where does one start where the waters shallow! I am fairly computer friendly, I work full time at a Techbench fixing computers all day, and have been in the computer repair field for about 6 years now. I spend upwards of 8 hours a day on my computer, sometimes more, so know my way around. I just have not jumped into the OC'ing bandwagon yet, and with my new system, would really like some guidance to get there.
I'm sure I didn't post all the information I needed to, in that case, only ask, and Ill do my best to help you, help me :)
BTW, I have bookmarked this site, because they discuss similar things that I would like to do.
http://www.digital-daily.com/motherb...us-a8v-deluxe/
I have also surfed through about the first 10 pages in the forums that come up under Asus A8V.
Where does a newb start! Even better, someone who has a similar setup, that would give me a basic walkthrough. Thank a ton guys,

Flash Asus A8V before Winchester CPU!?
I've just gotten an Asus A8V Deluxe rev. 2.0 board and 3200+ Winchester, and I've heard that you HAVE TO flash the bios before the system will boot with the new CPU!?
Well, I've just tried this (a MS-DOS boot disk + bios file + update tool), but nothing seems to happen?! I just get a blank screen! I've also tried to press ALT+F2, but that doesnt help!
Can anyone help me so I can get my system up running?! :)
