Based on this one ebnchamr we can say nothing about real performance of chip.

final ES clocks for 8C/16T CPU: 2.8/3.2 GHz (base/turbo)

My expectation: final clocks 3 GHz/3.5 GHz for 8c/16t, 3.4/3.8 GHz for 4C/8T, IPC close to Sandy Bridge, overall multithreaded performance 8c/16t Zen could be near the i7-5930K . The quickest AMD in single thread in history.

I hope for a bit higher clocks for retails...Hope more than 2.8/3.2 as final ES (at least hope for 3/3.4/3.5GHz)

I've heard that benchmark of Ashes of Singularity is limited to the use of only 4 cores. This means that the ZEN should be on par with intels current / best offering.

The clock(s) will be around the 3 to 3.8GHz mark and a TDP from avg 65W to 95W.

It's too bad that the CPU itself will carry the NB from now on. This means we cant really use high FSB clocks without being lucky or not. Whenever buying a high-end motherboard, HTT's up to 350MHz where pretty much normal since the chipsets where almost as good as cherry picked.

Curious to see what ZEN brings into the party.

This is good news. If AMD is able to crank up the clocks and actually pushes out good chips for good prices, they are defenitly back into the game. They have a very solid basis now which will see refreshments and better versions of it.

i am just saying this happens every time where amd shows one bench that is not in line with normal performance, and they overstate the bench by gimping something on the intel side like an old version or using the same install for both but testing the amd first. it wont be much longer before the AIBs leak benches and reviewers get samples.

Looking good. Still think i'm going to get another 6 months out of a refreshed AM3+ platform before Zen hits primetime.

There's only so much you can do the cheat on OSS benchmarks though. AMD is at least in the same ballpark as Broadwell-E. Piednol already tried to throw shade on AMD, accusing them of cheating on the bench, and he was shot down (read: had to delete his own tweets about it).

i want it to be real, i just do want to get hyped until 3rd parties bench it.

I think, we can say Zen will be solid (doesnt mean better than Intel). Blender was not the best benchamrk show for Vishera chips against Intel chips (example POV-Ray or R11.5 were better choices in 2012 as demo of performance).

But I agree, we must waiting for more tests (maybe in few months will be out few leaks). There can be better scenarios and worse scenarios.

Oh I know, let's not get too hyped about anything. I think I'd be on edge were I an AMD engineer or sales rep whose future rode on Zen/Summit Ridge/Zeppelin/etc., but as an enthusiast, I can take a relaxed approach. I went ahead and grabbed a 7870k off fleabay for ~$80 so I'm in no hurry to upgrade to a new platform.

the basic of Zen CPU is one CCX with 8MB L3 and 4 cores. So highest segment will have 2x CCX

It has been a long time AMD could even compete any benchmark with Intel clock to clock...

you cant compare clock to clock, because every architecture has different design. Some can hits easily 5+ GHz, another example 3 GHz.
You can compare example Core architecture design CPUs (Bloomfield, Gulftown, Lynfield, Sandy, Ivy, Haswell, SKylake) or K8/K10 chips (Athlon 64, Phenom, Phenom II) or Bulldozer microarchiotecture (Zambezi, Vishera, Trinity, Richland, Kaveri, Carizzo)

I just hope the CPU will be 'good enough' to bring AMD back into the green and to let me build an AMD box again without feeling like I am missing out. There's no need for Zen to beat Intel's top of the line right away.

Wccftech reporting that the higher end AM4 motherboards with X370 chipset are expected to be on sale in Feb / 2017. Motherboard manufacturers are to begin showcasing AM4 designs next month :)

Hopefully they will showcase both X370 and B350 designs, so we can decide for ourselves if X370 has anything about it that will merit a wait of ~4 months.

I'm hoping we get some solid AM4 partner boards. Intel has received so much love for the last decade and it really shows.

There has been a change in the spacing for the 4 holes to mount cooling kit. This is to facilitate the extra traces coming out of the socket. Adapters or new CPU blocks will be needed.

Following the releases of its Bristol Ridge-based desktop processors in September 2016, AMD's Zen-based CPUs and its corresponding high-end X370 chipsets will make their arrivals at CES 2017 in January. To achieve a smooth transition, AMD has begun adjusting product prices in order to accelerate inventory digestion. However, since Zen-based products are unlikely to start mass shipments until after February, they are unlikely to start contributing profits until the second quarter 2017, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Sources from motherboard players also noted that AMD's performance has started to improve since early 2016. In addition to stable income from its semi-custom solutions, CEO Lisa Su has also been pushing for more profits in China by licensing its patents, selling its testing and packaging plants, and forming joint ventures.

AMD's Polaris-based GPUs have also helped the company to raise its market share in the discrete graphics card market. AMD's market share rose 4.8pp sequentially to reach 34.2% in the second quarter, according to the sources citing Mercury Research.

However, since Polaris-based GPUs focus mainly on providing a high price-performance ratio, AMD's gross margins from the GPU sector are still far weaker than Nvidia's and the situation is unlikely to improve until AMD's next-generation Vega-based GPUs to hit the market in 2017.

Zen-based processors will be manufactured on Globalfoundries' 14nm FinFET process, featuring an eight-core-16-thread design. AMD will initially release Zen-based high-performance desktop processors (Summit Ridge), while one for notebooks is scheduled to launch at the end of second-quarter 2017.

The high-end X370 chipsets will be launched at CES 2017, while mainstream B350 and low-end A320 will be unveiled later. X370-based motherboards will begin shipments in December.

ASMedia, which is designing and manufacturing chipsets for AMD's processors, is also expected to see rising revenues with the releases of the new CPUs.

We will see, but Im sure 8c/16t will be not so easy to OC, because more threads=more issues for really high OC of all cores

From the digitimes article,

If the mainstream chipsets will be unveiled after X370 at CES 2017, then I don't see how DIY AM4 will be available in October. It is already mid-October and I have yet to see any AM4 boards in retail.

Maybe unveiling occurs after shipping product...kinda like mail order brides..LOL

That's backwards, B350 was supposed to be out in DIY form before X370, not afterwards. B350 is for Bristol Ridge which is already shipping to OEMs.

Also I'm sure AMD has been putting the NB on the CPU die well before Llano, since all my AM3 chips had the NB on-die. What they are integrating into the CPU/APU die now, at least on Bristol Ridge, is most of what's left of the SouthBridge.

Man we seriously need some more Zen leaks. I feel like it's taking forever. I won't hold.my breathe though.

Hard to say if that is an 8 or 16 core part, it's in the mix with 10 core intel Ivy Bridge class parts.

If it's the 8-core Summit Ridge then it looks quite good. If not then . . . well who knows, we don't know the clockspeeds for any Summit Ridge or Naples parts for sure anyway.

Improved Blender benchies look good for AMD. That's a good thing, especially if watt-envelops are competitive.

Seems to me Blender has never really scaled fer sheet, anyway, on AMD cores/threads -- they've been backin' up since the ol' Opty 2/4P wonder days

Someone pointed out that the above-linked blenchmark Blender scores were recorded under Windows Server 2008, meaning it is 99.999% probable that the scores were not taken on a Zeppelin-based machine. That wasn't Zen, whatever it was.

edit: that someone was probably The Stilt, or someone quoted/paraphrased by The Stilt. It was not I regardless.

Well, according to my calendar October is gone. No AM4 boards at any retail sites. I was wanting to try Bristol Ridge until Zen comes out.

If they keep delaying the boards that won't be an option, as it would make more sense to wait for Zen (January?).

Surely AMD marketing is not stupid enough to miss Black Friday sales, etc. It is beginning to look like it. :shakes:

Well, if all the rumours reported together are as true as all the other rumours reported together, it's not gonna be that price without bringing Haswell IPC to the table. Clocks might be kinda low, but then again they might be 3.6 GHz base or higher depending on whom you believe at this point.

I trhink the CPUs coudl sometimes fighting with 8c/16t Intels CPUs, but ussually are against 6c/12t Inte CPUs or 4C/8T (but with lower clocks of course, in single thread will 4C/8T Intels shining)

Of course not, but if you want apples to apples comparison of IPC between RYZEN and FX you have to downclock it for a test ...
Anyhow, something doesnt add up. im not sure AMD uploaded the right blender file, i have set mine 5820K to 4,53ghz which gives me same amount of aggregate ghz as RYZEN =27,2 and it does the test in 51.8s.
RYZEN and Broadwell-E does it in 35s. Yes BDE is a bit faster than the H-E , but not by THAT much.And even im running it faster than the BD which sits at 8x3.2ghz=25,6 .It would only make sense if BDE would TURBO ALOT , but it shouldnt have when running blender.

Anyone else worried AMD is still revising the silicon this late? I fear Ryzen will not clock that well initially. I think the first revision release will see a big improvement in the silicon refinement and huge improvement in overclocking headroom compared to initial release. If you're waiting, I would prepare myself mentally to wait just a bit longer for the improved silicon release, probably late 2017 - Early 2018.

if we base that theory on the leak we got a few weeks back then yes. initial ryzen silicone has an errata that is limiting it.

also i fear this internal BIOS will set the flameboys a fire.

I just wanna bench again, we used to have so much fun on here competing with different boards..I didn't see the point anymore, so I stopped. I remember barrels of fresh snow coming in the house with my 2600/Epox 8rda...hahaha

Opp used to get the newest/ best Kingston ram and ramp it up on Abit boards, another guy always used Asus boards...I used Corsair BH-5.

Its pretty quiet and i dont know why AMD isnt fixing this, but the blender file on AMD website IS NOT THE ONE USED IN THE LIVE STREAM, its not comparable.People with 6900K are getting WAY worse results with the settings this file provides, so it cant be used to compare to zen :-/ .To get the score from the show 6950x (10 core broadwell-e) must be clocked at 4ghz!

I'm pretty sure the file provides correct render resolution of 800x800 pixels but it looks like for the sake of quicker comparision time they dumbed down on number of samples to a lower value.
At default settings my i7 4790K @4.4GHz needs 1m 19s to render RyZEN.

Yea, people are trying different values, but nothing really sticks. Fact is, amd, on their own site, after such important event, shared a test file and wanted people to compare.But the file has wrong settings and is not comparable, when someone does the test like it is, its showing WAY worse results than it should.It could be interpreted as a manipulation :/ .And after 2 days , no statement or fix.Its still there :)

At least for me, I easily trade 20% in render time for what my eye perceives as a 10% increase in image quality, and whether by IPC or SMP, it's nice to see AMD put up a good number -- even in a small slice of 'Blender render'. Without a comparison of engines and 'quality' it's always subjective.

I think the 'BIOS on Chip' could have a great upside, especially if you can manage in combination P-States and voltages -- even in AOD. And most AMD BIOSs these days can save 8 different profiles in a 'dual-BIOS' set-up.

The Monster AMD Tweaker will RyZEN :clap: especially with a quality ITX mobo and Vega kicker :D

On the Ryzen file from AMDs site during the live stream, I got 2:34 on my FX 9370, all stock settings. I heard there was a updated file?

I've tried to temper my enthusiasm for Zen/AM4 with the understanding that AMD has historically struggled with "shrinks" requiring re-spins -- typically gaining higher clocks at lower volts, while putting out a few big fires that held back performance.

If true, Son of Zen might be a real slobber-knocker :D

Do you dont know about the final silicon has now 3.4 GHz base clock (without turbo)? Its maybe 3 weeks confirmed. And its really possible, this final retails could be A1 and not A0 as the one from review. 3.15 GHz chips was aviable in summer...

3.6 ghz with 3.9 ghz turbo

From the board previews at CES, it looks like most X370 boards will support DDR4-2666 "officially" with OC of up to at least DDR4-3000.

If RyZen is really competitive then aren't they going to be really expensive? I see some saying only $450 for 8C/16T, that seems way too cheap, remember these?...

k7 was really cheap given its performance. The 1.4 GHz Tbird was the fastest x86 CPU you could get for a long time (since the Pentium4 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8 chips were such failures), yet it was stupid-cheap. I think I got mine for under $200, more like $140? It was fairly long in the tooth by the time I got it and most of the boards comparatively sucked compared to what you could get on the Intel side, but still . . . AMD made it cheap to grab market share and establish rep.

On the flip side, Su has been pretty clear that they don't want to be the budget brand anymore.

I can see Summit Ridge/Ryzen costing more than Intel quads but less - far less - than Intel's HEDT lineup. $500 sounds about right for the Ryzen flagship chip.

So about a grand all in for CPU, quality MB and RAM? or to put it another way the same price for the whole platform as the competition is charging for a CPU :)

Asus is keeping its cards very close to it chest ref the AM4 platform. So far we have only had news on the B350 board, a bit infuriating.

I agree. I want to see some of their X370 offerings, and maybe a QVL list too. I want to get my stuff ready in advance!
