An outsiders viewpoint: this is not very efficient just now so I will ask:
1. what is the predicted end date for each project?
2. who needs help and for what badge and how many days short are you and which project?
3. who is already or can offer cores and how many? (please state rig type ie number of cores/threads)

I've got currently (y:d:h:m:s) 1:129:17:16:39 on GFAM - so 240day deficit with around 8 days worth of WUs remaining. Second laptop is a cheapo and wont run 24/7 so im not 100% sure that i'll make it.

I have my badges already, but would like to make it to 3 years run time on GFAM too. With the rigs I have crunching for me at the moment I should just make it.
I have two 8 thread rigs crunching HPF2 for others (Bluestang and Jeanguy2)
Once those are finished I could help others too. But I'm not sure there will be many days left by than.

You should have cache set for >8 days but we will call that 7 (for safety)
so you have 13 days of work available in which to get 240 days crunching done.
around 18.3 cores crunching for those 13 days should do it so say 20 cores with a good margin of safety for this too.
with your helpers you have 24 cores running plus the 2nd laptop. so provided you have an 8 day cache set on the profile that these machines are running on you will get you badge with no problems.
In fact you could possibly allow one of your helpers to jump to another who needs help provided you run the second laptop 12 hours or 24 on 2 cores.... again as a precautionary measure.
With the cores you have running right now and ignoring the 2nd laptop you will badge in 10 days time

1. you can think of your cache as well when calculating for badges so today there are probably 16 days of work available.
2. If you want to play safe then knock a few off of that total ....3 or 4 should be plenty.
I should be good, caches set at 7 days on donators crunchers.
I have currently 20c full at GFAM, +2c partially (notebook), caches set to 10 days (=WU deadline).
My current GFAM status is 309 days. So 20c * (7+10) = 340. 340+309 = 649. Then add a few days from the notebook (~10), I guess I'll miss sapphire by ~50-70 days...
Anyway, still hoping to achieve this by myself :)

Clearing out my current cpu cache so I can help out. Its only 3 threads (4th for POEM gpu) but it all adds up, yes? Should have it cleared tomorrow. A10 @ 4ghz.
I put my 3770 on Mumak's account and the 2600k is now working for One.shot. Both since this morning and crunching for 8 hours now.

Cache is set to 1+7 days. At the monent there are just over 300 wu's in the cache and that should be around 54 days.

Thanks to all that are helping. I'm aware of one rig from Rob_b one from Yojimbo197, and now one from Yeroon. And just to be clear, I reached my emerald on HPF2, so GFAM is my main target currently. I'm at 201 days for GFAM right now. How many threads are on each of the systems added? I really hope we can pull it off!
Yeroon, Check your config files. It sounds like you left something in there that let you do max production on GPUs.

No config file in WCG sub folder. Was doing WCG cpu wu's fine while gpu ran poem work before I emptied cache. Had both set to 100 priority before, now its 100/50(poem) and still nada. Tried suspending POEM project, then updating, and again, not working.
Do you have any local configuration settings (from within the BOINC manager that is)? It might be worth clearing local settings to pick up the ones set on the servers.Quote:

Yes, in an attempt to verify that it was an issue on One.shot's end, I tried to shift over some WU's by saving/shifting over the WCG folder after swapping the key file, and I'm not sure what happened. My machine is "Kyalami" (racetrack)

Also, the first line needs to match your location where BOINC was installed.
Now, follow these steps:
1) In BOINC select the Projects Tab and the click on No new Tasks.
2) Select and Abort all Tasks not running.
3) Let the running tasks finish. (DO NOT CLOSE BOINC)
4) Run the .bat file you saved earlier. It will take a few seconds, but it will then show and download for the attached account.
You may have to right click and run the .bat file as an Administrator in some cases. Hit or miss with that sometimes.
Now, to reverse this process and go back to your account, create another .bat file. I name mine switch_account_back_to_me.bat But, instead of using your Weak Key, you need to use your Account Key found under your My Profile page on WCG.

The rig is not overclocked and has only had a day running to test but should be good for 32 days per day (less any overhead) it has been running a big variation in times per wu at between 3.07 and 4.89hrs making it difficult to estimate how much work is in cache in days
I have a gut feeling that the 1 + 8 is wrong and that it should be 8 +1 but not sure why. Comments?
Thoughts:
This may be more than is needed so folks might consider jumping to mumak on gfam if needed
A fast completion might allow for ability to jump before hpf2 ends so we might still get wu's for that if people need them
(I am still not really clear on who needs what just now)
Local cache here is set for 1 + 8 and I will watch that to get a feel for what is needed and if the change mentioned above is required

One Shot, I got my i5 rig "Oysterhead" going today. Yesterday I got stuck doing a major re-org in the apt to accommodate the window A/C unit. This shoebox only has 3 electrical outlets in the main room.

I was set up with 1+8 in line with comments in the posts above. This gave me ~ 30 hours of work in cache for each thread..... certainly not a full cache!
I changed to 2+7 on a hunch and now I have ~52 hours of cache for each thread
I believe we should all set our cache for 8 days Minimum Work Buffer locally, using Boincmanager>Tools>Computing Preferences>Network Usage
Yojimbo, As of tomorrow there will be 10 days left for HPF2. If you add to this an extra 6 days of cache crunching ( 8 to 9 more likely available); then you have 16 days of HPF2 crunching left to get your HPF2 sapphire. You already have the HPF2 emerald badge and thus you need a maximun of 365 days runtime to reach HPF2 sapphire. This means that 365 / 16 = 22.8 cores are needed to get the job done. If we round this up, all you need to muster to reach your HPF2 emerald badge is 24 cores crunching HPF2 for you for the next 16 days. Our XS team will easily exceed this minimum 24 cores requirement if you decide to go for it. Don't give up on the HPF2 sapphire badge. Ask your XS team members for support and go for it. Wanted to see if a duallie could get close to 2 overclocked 3770K's.... and I guess I want to see the difference in build cost offset by lower power bills. 0ne.shot: looks like we need to get to the 1 year before Gfam finishes to be absolutely sure of badging. That is provided your helpers have 7 or 8 day Minimum Work Buffer caches. I know you set that globally but I would like your helpers to check they set it locally too.
I see your 2700K and a6, my rig and another 2600K and an i5 2320 helping...That is 56 cores. I am hoping that 2 days will get us there (1 year) with a day to spare before the work dries up.... after that we will only have the 56 cores times 7 days = 390ish days work on our machines to get that badge. The key is the end day for GFAM !!!..... Should be good to go though :)
I have some other news for you. With some careful planning and a bit of luck with the days left to run on HPF2 I think that with the guys helping you on GFAM you can also get your sapphire for that. :D

I will keep my 2600k on his account for as long as he needs it.
At the moment I have 432 wu's on that rig. That is 7.5 days on 8 threads giving a total of 60 days in cache.
I need a few more days of GFAM and after that I may have a few more cores to spare.
EDIT: 255 wu's of those have an end date of June 7th. So those would be finished on time. I got a little worried because all wu's started running on High Priority yesterday.
So there are many systems on my device manager, but I have no idea to see what the rigs are and thread count. So come clean, fellas. :) Can I get an idea of thread count per machine? I have rigs from Yerloon, Yojimbo197, Rob_B, and OldChap on my account currently. 12 threads on my end here.

OC I think my i5 rig is the last one you listed, since its an i5-2320 running Windows Home 7 64 bit. I've only been up and running on One Shots account for about a day now, so my stats may not be totally reported. I know that my computers has done work for him, because I've seen a long line of completed WU's.
Makes sense. Free-DC is usually only updating every 12 hours.
The 5 rigs listed should do it by my calculation unless new work ends too soon (that is if it ends in <2 days)

Just an aside: I wonder, when I see a rig go into high priority mode, if it has calculated that some wu,s will not complete in 10 days. If that were the case then, in theory at least, I have 10 days work here. :shrug:

This current batch are taking me >5 hours sometimes 6 :eek: I have 1360 wu's in cache = 8.9 days @ 5 hours per. = 285 days toward the 437 day target
Just changed my cache settings to 9 days to try to ensure that even if I lose a few out of time (possible because the rig has been running in priority mode since I ran benchmarks) I now have more (96= about 20 target days) that have a deadline a day later than those others.
It is going to be tough to get the timing right for the change to HPF2. I will try to build out another 3770K just in case.

When it comes to processing the cache "on time" the theory is that if you have enough work in cache then all is good... However, ....If your wu's in cache are all at the same deadline and that deadline is in say 7 days time then some will get sent back unfinished.
I wonder then if it might be a good idea to abort a number of the earlier deadline wu's now and then you should get some later deadline wu's as you complete the work and as the system fills your cache.
This is theory only at this time which I think I have now confirmed as I dumped approx 250 wu's earlier today and I now have new work with a deadline of 12th June.

Looking ahead to the HPF2 part of this challenge, the issue as I see it is that the last new wu's will be issued a day or two before we get the GFAM jobs finished....
....but I think I have a plan :)
Based on what we know at this time about days left: On Friday next I will put another drive in this machine and run a new instance of Boinc. The aim being to dl as many wu's as possible before the work dries up. Then, switch drives and as soon as GFAM target is reached I will run using that new drive with turbo off to stretch them out a bit if necessary although I suspect that the issue then will be the deadlines.
If we can get 7 days of work to run on 56 cores we will just about badge that one too

OC, above sounds like a good plan. 1.S can also start crunching HPF2 earlier than next Friday by using the help from the devices of Xtremers who will have spare crunchers available in the next 2-3 days. I recommend that he post his HPF2 core requirements so that folks now what he needs. New helpers coming to him can then switch over to him with a low cache (0.1) day and let him know the name of their switched devices. These devices will then download a minimal amount of GFAM WUs or nothing since his present default profile is set to GFAM. 1.S can then go to his WCG profile and change the profile for these newly added crunchers to the one that is set for HPF2 crunching. Once HPF2 WUs show up, helpers can then raise their cache to whatever 1.S needs.Quote:

Cache as much as you can, as soon as you can. If you do that now then as soon as you return work BOINC will request more, no real reason to dump some now and try to refill before the deadline.
As soon as new work stops being distributed lower your clocks immediately as you would rather pass the deadline with WUs left over than run out of WUs altogether.
After the new work stops flowing turn down your cache down only enough so that you are still requesting work each time you report completed WUs. As you get closer to your deadlines you should keep dropping your cache to make sure you are not running in High Priority as I'm pretty sure that excludes you from getting any resends.
Yes, turnaround is also part Resend equation so on the day you will run out of WUs, turn your cache to 2 days and open your profile to another WCG project. Once you have your 2 days full again, reset your profile back to only be the project you want.
I have a couple of emeralds instead of sapphires due to thinking I had as much time as the estimate charts said I did - learned my lesson and here is the approach I use now. Get all your badges now, as soon as you can on all the projects you want so that when a new project gets released you can attack that badge goal and attain it as quickly as possible. This way you're never tormenting your self when a project closing announcement is made and you ask yourself "why didn't I crunch it sooner"?
