Another Z68 mobo hits the local shores - Asrock Z68 Extreme4
-
-
-
Finally a Z68 board with Displayport and max res. 2560 x 1600
Intel FDI is limited to 1920 x 1200 (1080P) if your board only have HDMI or DVI ports, Z68 boards don't support dual-link DVI :(
-
Just got back from work and already whacked everything onboard liao, now time for the more impt things in life... yes, time for supper 1st. :D
Left out these few shots.
LGA 775/1155 mounting holes

Full house CPU socket - no skimping on components like some brands

Everything's new again - though they say Z68 is same old same old

Speaking of UEFI, must post this screenshot to make all other mobo owners envious cos Asrock implements F12 screen captures even on their Extreme4 series.
No need to spend loads of money on the high end model to enjoy sharing screenshots. http://img.vrforums.com/smilies/biggthumpup1.gif

I'm yet to be convinced of Z68.
-
Two more chokes than P67 Extreme4
-
I noticed that the new Giga Z-68 boards (ud7/5/4) didn't have video outputs? I like the idea of being able to use built in video for back up or if you don't want/need a dedicated video card. I like my current P67 ASRock so I'm looking foward to availability of this model here in the states as well as other Z-68 offerings.

Ivy Bridge is what you want, Z68 is such a small upgrade it's not worth the price if you already have a high end X58 system.
PCI-e 3.0 will be the next big thing.
This is a nice board though, but nothing to be "jealous" over like you state.

So, you have no problem knowing a 2600k stomps your 950? :p:

Studying the effects of Lucid Virtu on 3D11 P scores
Unlocked 6950@stock clocks on Asrock Z68 E4, latest available Lucid Virtu 1.1.101.16618 installed
Virtu not installed
http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/2738251c.png
Virtu installed but not enabled
http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/faa202a3.png
Virtu installed and enabled

Interesting findings indeed, looks like the Lucid team has done very well with the latest version with regards to 3D11 P scores. http://img.vrforums.com/smilies/biggthumpup1.gif

As mentioned before, just make shure the Z68 motherboard your planning on buying has DisplayPort or else your stuck at 1080p!
DVI and HMDI is limited to 1920x1080 on Sandy Bridge :(

Is that because the DVD is single link?

Only singel-link DVI I'm sorry to say.
That suck's if you got a nice beefy 27" or 30" monitor like me!
Asrock Z68 Extreme4 and DisplayPort to the rescue

I am on the same boat (see below for sig) so thanks for clarifying!
I hope Gigabyte's offerings have it. They have just announce partnership with Lucid and a few Z68 with video outputs for launch. No pics yet though.

>MacClipper
Do you use linux or could boot Z68 system from one of the linux live-cd editions?
I'm having one small request, it takes no more than half a minute.
...and what's better LAN controller: BCM57781 by Broadcom or TRL8111E by Realtek?

Sorry man, not using any form of Linux at all. :)

Introducing Lucid Virtu "d-Mode" for Z68 motherboards with or without video outputs...
Quote:
3.2 d-Mode
d-Mode is provided for demanding 3D gamers to achieve uncompromised 3D performance of discrete GPU
installed in the system. In this mode, Virtu allows user to utilize Intel special features such as trascoding, while
display is connected to discrete GPU.
Note: We recommend you use d-Mode for better 3D performance unless you use Intel Insider feature or the
power saving i-Mode.
To use Lucid VIRTU solution in d-Mode, display must be connected to discrete GPU installed in the system.
http://download.asrock.com/manual/Vi...e4/English.pdf
Nice for everyone with discrete graphics or/and big displays with resolutions greater than 1080p
Function should work on every Z68 board with Lucid Virtu license :) -AOC
-
Nice ! Thanks MacClipper
-
The heatpipe looks VERY close to the EPS connector, what's the clearance like? And what's with the V8 branding? It's not on the box or part of the model number...
-
Just bought this exact mobo to go alongside the following:
i5 2500k Retail
8GB (2x4GB) G.Skill RipjawsX PC12800 CL8 1.5v
Silverstone FT-02
Another AMD (Asus) HD6950 2GB reference for crossfire
I am going to reuse the other bits from my current system... :)
It should be with me today too! :D
-
It looks 99% the same like the Extreme4 except it's on a different chipset with a display port :) That's it
-
Thats because Z68 is almost identical to P67 :p: Shame Asrock didn't do away with that super craptacular PCH "heatsink" (and I use that term very loosely) that thing is just awful for cooling.
-
Got mine with me now, looks like a great piece of kit.
Even if the PCH is not great I am sure the fact that I am using a Silverstone FT-02 will help out with the cooling in that area ;)
-
I would strongly recommend at least replacing the TIM used on the PCH, giving the PCH "heatsink" base a little lap if it needs it, and replace the pushpins with a few screws and washers. Doing that will ensure its as effective as possible without the hassle of trying to replace it. At stock settings by doing those things it should be the difference of around 5-6c even at idle.

will that void the warranty though? can I use some IC24 as TIM? :)
-
If a mobo has ever died on me I've never been denied RMA because I replaced the TIM. Replacing TIM and using a few screws with washers isn't going to kill a board anyway so I wouldn't think theres a problem. If you ever need to RMA, just take off the screws and replace them with the stock pushpins. No foul, no crime ;) :D

Thanks! :) What do you think of IC24 as TIM? :D
-
I've never used the stuff but I've heard its not too bad, certainly better than the stock TIM.

>EzyRyder
Please report back if you encounter dualboot or compatibility problems.
-
Will the IGD Multi monitor enabled in bios, hook up one monitor to the MB and the other to your graphics card. Now with Virtue off do you still have Quicksynch?
No one has answered this question about Z68 and I think it is an important one, it works on the H67 and frankly was a more important feature than being able to overclock the cpu (to me and a few others paying attention.)
I guess the lingo we are looking for is discrete graphics with non-virtu enabled Quicksynch.
Thanks
-
i'd like 10 SATA. Looking forward to an Extreme6 board :D
-
Asrock have just sent me one of these puppies to play with and bug-test so figured I would give this thread a bump ;)

It will be good if you could test the eSATA port, see if you have the same problems I have been having! :)
