Pics of EK's new FC fin design

I've been very excited about this as it should be up to 5C better than the old one.

EK just releashed pictures of their 590 GTX block with an acrylic top so you can see the new design :banana:

It looks like the water channels now are mainly in the top and not cut into the copper base as normally which is quite smart.

It's similar to XSPC's earlier Full Cover blocks.

It looks promising and let's hope someone can do a new full cover test soon :D

From a thermodynamic point of view this is clearly a superior design to the old standard. The key with channels like this is balancing the depth and with of the channels, which is why I would be hesitant to compare it to the XSPC, as small variations in channel dimensions can have huge effects in performance within a given flow bracket. I would imagine EK is using the same sweet spot they found with the Supreme HF in adopting this design and I for one am all for it!

Of course all of this is old news to the vets around here but I just felt like chiming in ;)

I totally agree that from a thermal stand point it's hard to compare them without knowing the specific dimensions and depth but the design and idea has been seen before, which was what I was referring to :)

I imagine they can make the channels even smaller than the Supreme HF and get higher performance than now, with the same level of restriction as the Supreme HF when they aren't using the jet-plate. But this is all speculations and I know Eddy is a champ in making these blocks perform optimally thermally and flow-wise :)

Agreed :( even though this may cool a bit better, Im not the type of guy to stress over 1 or 2 degrees. If I wanted my parts to run really cold I would do TEC cooling, watercooling is more a mix of aesthetics and performance IMO.

Naekuh: signature inner design, maybe. But given choice would you really choose classic looks over better cooling/flow?

I sort of miss the wave signature as well, but performance counts...this should help.

Better performance, harder to clean :p Fins are a great place for gunk to collect.

Slightly OT, but that 590 block looks kinda restrictive...

Edit: Nvm, i just saw the internals of the kolance HD6990 block... THAT looks restrictive :p:

I can't be the only one that thinks ALL of Ek's latest designs, are hideous. Alum over the Nickel Plexi(I want to SEE the liquid!), all edges and no "flowy" designs. Not to mention the ENORMOUS branding on the new Supreme and Dominator blocks.
I sincerely miss the old logo, and that the logo didn't need to take up the entire blocks surface.

Which is why I wont be buying any of their latest parts, when I was usually their biggest fan and was happy to recommend them.

Yeah, there are some really narrow areas in it :/

Further it doesn't look like the top area around the cooling fins is angled like in XSPC block - it looks to be 45 degree vs. EK's 90 degree, which must be more restrictive :)

I think if the new fin design works better, ok, but why not use that new fin design yet still make it a little wavy :D

EK uses stainless steel and not aluminum on their blocks. That would be just stupid. So +1 sparky.

As far as I see from all these fins (XSPC,EK,Koolance) are made same. That is by cutting in copper with saw (you can see radius on ending) and not using milling.
You can't do wavy thing with saw, only milling allows that.

It's nickel plated, not aluminium ;)

Also, I don't see why you're ditching the brand now that they've noticeably improved the cooling power of their product. That's like saying you're not going to be buying another car in your life because the new ones are too energy efficient and you'd rather have a 20 liters / 100 km pimpmobile...

Just took delivery of a 2nd GTX 580 and EK waterblock for it. I thought the fins looked different compared to my first block. Seems new EK 580 blocks also use this revised fin design!

I noticed the change on the 590 blocks and went to website to check it out, and it is supposed to be on the new version of the 580 blocks. Unfortunately, I can't find anyone carrying them, just the original.

Anyone know whos getting them in US?

Idk who you've sent them to, but Sidewinder, FrozenCpu, and Performance-PCs still showing original blocks.

I am guessing they going to trying get rid of that stock before putting out the new ones, or they just haven't gotten them yet.

Please check with resellers to check the label on the block. If there is a "+" then it is new revision.

Yeah, that's pretty much to be expected. Granted, Poland is not the US (;)), but I'm not seeing the "+" blocks anywhere yet, the precious few retailers that we have are all still selling the "old" design or are out of stock, which is a pity, since I'll be ordering mine next week. If it weren't for shipping costs, I'd order directly from EK, alas...
