Sandy Bridge FPO Batch list (Excell sheet)

K I'll put up a list, as I did it with the Wolfdales BUT

1) I need more proof then just saying that you got 5ghz at 1.35 stable

2) What I propose :

Grab this LinX version from Zalbards thread ( as it almost correctly stresses all the cores and threads ) : linx(0.64)_10.3.0.003.zip Or use Prime95 eg with custom test 12K-12K selected.

3) In case of LinX : all ram has to be selected ( preferably over 2.8Gb, so only option is a 64Bit OS ) and it has to be at least 20 runs and still running when taking the screenshot. So select eg a 25 loops; start the test. Once you pass 20 loops, grab a screenie with everything running. For prime9 an hour of the custom test (12 -12K) is already a good indication if the CPU is stable

4) CPU-Z : CPU, Mobo and Memory tab open

5) TMonitor open ( to see all the cores loaded )
32 Bit : TMonitor_1031_32.exe
64 Bit : TMonitor_1031_64.exe

Or Task manager or sortlikes that show clearly 100% load on all the cores...

6) Realtemp open from the start of the test ( this to monitor actual running time as prime95 screenies can be easily faked ) or keep task manger open with the prime95 process time listed

7) List : CPU , Batch, Mobo & Bios version , cooling type. Additional info as CPU PLL voltage, Override enbled,... can be added

If more ideas pop up plz let me know, will start to collect from today

I read somewhere prime95 for sandy bridge is more stressful than linx ? true or false ? Some batches at http://i4memory.com/f55/intel-core-i...rs-list-27701/ but no stress tests, just rough results find across the web

True George, sort of counts for AMD too. But some prefer LinX others Prime95... leaving the option open... but for LinX a 64 bit OS is a must, and for maximum stress Win7 with SP1...

Cool, I use Prime myself which works for me.

i7 2600K Batch L038A660.
Mobo ASUS P8P67 Deluxe. Bios 1053.
Cooling Air. Thermalright Venomous X-RT.
Bios set at 1.395v.
Min during test 1.398v.
Max during test 1.408v.

That is something weird. I see that you have about 60GFlops at 5GHz and I get about the same value with my 2500K at 4.3GHz. I am guessing that your CPU is throttling. (an internal protection is triggered, besides the multiplier)

That is correct. I experienced that a few days ago and with Unclewebbs newer Realtemp program managed to catch that throttling at about 50c and above, it starts to drop the multi in 1/10 fractions down to about a 100mhz total drop at times.

A screenshot with task manager opened, which shows the process, cpu time and memory used, might be another option to add for validation.

So your saying my cpu is throttling above 50.c. Doesn't RealTemp show a log if it's throttling? also woudln't that show in the TM monitor? :confused: See here

I don't know if your chip is throttling but mine certainly seems like it is. I would think your RealTemp should show it if its happening. I only really noticed it after installing version 365 while running Prime95. On my Torture rack system I can control liquid cooling temp to a great degree with dual remote PA 120.3 rad setups. During Prime testing at 5G or greater as temps climbed into the 50s I experienced the fractional drop in multi, I then reduced liquid cooling temp down to high 30s and all throttling ceased and reading became stable again.

Yeah I'm guessing somethings up. Im new to Linx and there are 75 background processes running. Cant even get it to work on my 980X system. More reading.:)

Try ThrottleStop instead that fancy graphs drawing program. You'll have all threads, multi, load, temps, all.
You should spot easily a multi throttling or clock/chipset modulation.
It's a work in progress for controlling Sandy but in monitoring mode TS is perfect fine.

He has HT enabled, your 2500k doesnt have it, without hyper threading the gflops are a bit higher. I dont think his chip is throttling, this works the same way with Bloomfield and GT, no HT= higher gflops..

TMonitor adds unnecessary load. I used it to watch for throttling and my benchmarks consistently take a dive while TMonitor is running.

Bios is 1.8b5 ;)

Strange part is I set it in bios 1.4V, with full load it needed 1.456V. Too much difference I think.

Batch L040B208 2600K on water running at 1.370v core bios with level 1 cal enabled at 5G. f6a bios running Prime 95 blend. Torture rack remote liquid cooling system. Max stable multi is 56 so far.

Water Cooling with a little AC

I must have found the crappy batch already :p 2 2500K CPU's of the same batch. Tested on 3 boards ( 1 Dlx and 2 Pro boards ), will test the GB mobo next week... same boards power the 2600K deadeasy to 4.5 and beyond :up:

So this is Batch L038A789 S/N 2V035198A2553 and S/N 2V035198A5600

One CPU does not post in windows with 4.3, other one stops at 4.4, 4.5 freezes up all the time... no matter the voltages etc... luckily the client only wanted 4ghz stable :p

Why TMonitor? Is task manager in Windows or something like RealTemp (which has CPU load in percentage) not adequate?

What would the prime settings be exactly? I have never used the custom setting before.

Not a Sandy Bridge user atm--but I have an interesting observation for Sandy Bridge when it comes to LinX (since there's so many LinX results in this thread). It seems that it has a negligible, if negative performance difference per clock from Core 2 Duo.

Looking at leeghoofd's example of ~56GFLOPS at ~3GB problem size and 4.5GHz, that's a 25.8% advantage over a Core 2 Quad Q6600 with 44.5GFLOPs at ~3GB problem size and 3.4GHz.

A 25.8% advantage is significant but 4.5GHz is a 34% higher than 3.4GHz.

It could be an HT On/Off Issue

I always set this setting and then let it run for a few hours. Example below for 2500K, for 2600K it automatically sets 8 threads :)

As mentioned before there's no 100% bulletproof stress test. You can prime for hours/days, then run a simple game and the rig can hang. Same with the LinX vs Prime discussion. One of the two can be stable while the other one caps out.
I leave the option open to use either one of these two. Some will say 12 hours or even more is required ( for prime95 test ) Others say 25 runs is not enough either for the LinX test. I just find an hour of custom prime 95 and more than 20 loops of LinX more than enough to get an idea if it's stable or not. If you want to do more loops or continue stressing longer, be my guest.

Comparing technologies based on a single benchmark is never a good idea. Look at the below results of my upcoming review for Sandy Bridge :

Clock for clock mate (FSB of the s775 system was 400) yes you can squeeze more performance out the old setup with a higher FSB. But even then Intels latest creation is so much smoother, more responsive. I even swapped my i970 for a 2600K

Yep, I can confirm that. Got an L038A789 last week, and I can't go past 4700MHz on 1.44v :eek: , which is pretty damn terrible. I'll probably try and RMA it to get a better one, I mean my luck can't get much worse than that.

I hope it clocks as good as yours. Waiting for board and memory to arrive.

How much VCore did you need for 4.5Ghz?

May the hand of the good luck be with you. Mine has the same batch and it's really lousy OC... 1.36v for 4.5Ghz, 1.53v for 5.0... On the other hand in appers to hold voltage just fine without degrading :shakes:

The results to chit chat ratio is pretty low here :D j/k ups just delivered my new system so I hope to have results by tomorrow. I'll be hunting the sweet spot under 1.3v, whatever it may be.

That doesn't look to good, although it's always luck of the draw.
Some cpu's with the same batch numbers might clock better than others.
Knowing myself, I'll probably have a crap one. :ROTF:

Seems like SP1 W7, gives a major boost on the Gflops

this test was with vengeance 8 gigs, going to switch my Dominator GT's C7 in.
Two cores higher than the other two because I think the block is STILL sitting on one of the caps
next to socket. I do have the gigabyte friendly version of the block. I may try to dremmel it.
it MIGHT be the way i oriented the block also. because it looked like the proper way the baseplate with
the screw in the middle looked like it would still hit. so I turned it 90 degree's. I run my board horizontal.
if anyone can recommend a block with smaller baseplate, please do.

As you know, I refuse to degrade my chip stress testing it with linpack or Prime anymore, so it's ok if you don't want to include mine in your result chart.

I only use 3d gaming and my Deep Rybka 4 chess engine (and some Vantage :).
But here it goes:

2600k
L045A998 <--has to be a RECORD high for a batch
4.5 ghz 1.265v-1.27v (load), AUTO (bios; shown as 1.35v; this was AUTO), PLL OFF, LLC OFF: Venemous-X (max prime small FFT 65C), fully game stable.

5 ghz 1.450 (load), 1.39v (BIOS-manual OR AUTO=1.39), PLL On, LLC ON (Max Deep Rybka 4, 8 threads: 75C; running Chess opening Analysis for over an hour)

Temps reach 89C and rising on Prime small FFT with the Ven-X, risk chip damage by testing any further. Maybe there's an issue with the install, since the Ven-X does swivel; (others said it does that for them too, but does NOT budge one bit with a TRUE);I don't know, but I installed it as perfectly as can be expected, outside on a clear day, so there were no mistakes.

TRUE Black fared slightly worse in temps (despite being unable to swivel it at all; using MX-4; the mount was as perfect as possible; the Ven-X did swivel (tension knob barely helped; I suspect the bases from TRUE to Ven-X are very slightly different, but was otherwise secure).

I'm wading through a few threads to gather data lads... but a 32M run at 5.5 or such is pointless. Batches don't 100% warrant good results either. There still is some luck involved or being able to test a lot of different CPUs...

Np mate, added... was it the new cooling , the new board or the mix that got you hugher at less volts ?

I am testing now under LinX. Something is gotta be wrong with Prime. That :banana::banana::banana::banana: is vcore hungry and I need to put at least 1.36 to pass that crappy test. I have no issues passing LinX or IBT though and my system been stable for days, 24/7. I really think prime might be outdated or smth.

For LinX to maximise stress you need to have 1) 64Bit OS 2) if possible Win7 with Service pack 1 3) Latest Linx version... you will see similar Vcore demands then... But if it's linX stable you are already well on track ...

Most likely combination of more powerful fans, much cooler ambient and a different motherboard. I must admit though that I never tried 50x LinX with my Biostar either.

afaik i can tell linx works with HT off and HT on is bugged
and HT off vcore is the same as HT on - tested on 5 procs already

so test 50 runs++ of HT off. ( take note HT off temps are higher than HT on )

and then tweak with fft's 12 prime and blend with mem atleast 3600mb in diagnostic mode

Have you tried setting LinX to run on 4 threads? Should work just as well.

4 threads = more load than 8 for 2600k/HT->ON.

My CPU wasn't actually stable at 4.6Ghz with the settings in the OP. It would pass Linx and Prime95 for hours, no problem, but crash when playing a movie! Will report back when I am stable at 4.6Ghz, as that's my goal with my SB :)

Nothing stable above 48X. Failed Prime 12K twice @ 48x around the 40 minute mark.
