Dunno mate, think only time till tell, settling at the moment at 4.5 at 1.28 with the 2600K. Tops at 71°C under prime95, around 62°C with Battlefield Bad Company 2... high enough for me...
1.4V should be safe. 1.45V "seems somewhat safe". Everything above... I wouldn't call safe 24/7.
Keep temps under 70C at all times as well, just in case.
Been running since day one linX at 5Ghz, with volts going around 1.5v, till now it's all ok. Seems pretty safe for me.
Yesterday I let it running with 1.52v 25 runs with All the memory, I've 8Gb it should have been like 3h's... and the rest of the night on idle. Today I've tested with 1.49v it runned till the 17th :( After that I had a BSOD. Thought I'm having much lower temps compared to some posted here around XS ( still I'm on water ). But I'm might have another crappy CPU :down: I wont be very sad if it dies...
2600k. L039B470. I think of myself as a quiete experienced overclocked, but it could also be me playing wrong with BIOS settings, I hope so...
I need 1.3v for a 25 linX runs at 4.6Ghz, but from there on I've to push quiet a lot of volts to get get more Mhz :shakes:

Yeah not all these SB are going to be 5GHz with 1.40v to 1.45v load... I think with time will see more average chips as well.
I think it's bullsh*t, intel datasheet states VIDmax : 1.52v . This doesn't mean it's safe, but in my understanding it means that it was somewhat design to handle those. Plus it also stats that max Icc it's 112A. Mine runing at 1.52v on Linx takes around 104W, that means it's pulling around 69A, much lower then those 112A...

my suggestion is for a 24/7 machine find your max clocks with stock voltage or a slight bump that's it. These chips can do 4.5GHz with around stock voltage almost.
I'm doing 5.2 on 1.485 on LLC lvl2 temps are low 70's high 60's. I'll check how much I need for 5.1.

Just to warn all of you, my CPU has officially degraded. I haven't played with the other volts so it mush ( should ) be vcore related :cool: . I wouldn't say also that 1.45v is safe, since 1.5 isn't. Maybe those 1.38v wondering around the internet aint so that unreal :rofl:

I think you're the second or third person on these boards with dead or degraded SB...
How can people think such high voltages are safe?
1.4+ was considered high for wolfdale for 24/7
So obviously SB won't be able to cope with as much.
1.375 ~7 years. 1.60 if planning to replace it soon :D

I will probably be running in the 1.45-1.49 range under water for 24/7, but I won't cry if the chip dies... People give all kinds of overly conservative estimates. I ran 1.5 vtt and vcore through my i7 860 and that chip lasted a whole year before it died. If you really don't want your chip failing then I would stay under 1.40.
I ran my i920 in that conditions too. But a two day degradation is too much for my to handle.
The safe voltage is ever decreasing as the size of the transistors gets smaller. With the 2600K's being manufacturered on 32nm verses the 45nm of the orignial i7's its safe to say the true safe 24/7 voltage is less than 1.45V as recommended at the time. On the older i7 intel's recommended safe voltage was 1.35V. Those 2 year old chips have for the most part survived (at least in my case) at 1.4V constantly.
1.5V seems high for a 24/7 build, I'd say 1.4V would be more appropriate, that still represents a 40% increase in voltage. For suicide benchmarking 1.5V might be a little low!
I would have to say 1.375v for air cooling and 1.425v for water cooling. If you have top air cooling and don't get more than 70 degrees C with 1.4v should be okay aswell.
