Fantastic! I just got my gtx 580 this morning. Card is showing 1.013v. Looks like I have to try those 262.99 drivers, the 260.99 aren't so great so far.

EDIT: 262.99 keep failing installation. I've uninstalled the old drivers before installation and still no go.

I'll post some pics in a little bit, but so far I've ran 900mhz on the core with only 1.1v with mem set to 2100mhz and it ran flawlessly. It can probably run the speed at a lower voltage, I just so happen to set it to the 1.1v to be on the safe side.

EDIT: This card is okay. Couldn't even do one pass through of crysis benchmark with max 1.138v (950/1900/2150). So I guess the whole lower the VID isn't always true. in some ways I think its the drivers because the 262.99 never really did install properly.

I fixed the problem. The drivers defiantly didn't install right. Now they are working awesome, and my frames improved tremendously. Heres a quick test result, note the huge frame improvement over my last run with just a 20mhz difference.

I did try pushing the voltage max, but I still can't get it to pass 950mhz on the core. Is there any other settings I need to tweak in the control panel? Will setting the fan max help results? My guess is; is that when these cards pass over a certain temp they're more sensitive at these speeds.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you guys experienced any crashing issues with games? My card is not even overclocked right now, but bad company 2 and crysis warhead crash after playing them for not very long. Its weird because I didn't have this issue earlier today. I wonder if the 262.99's are just crap. The game basically freezes, and I have to do the o'l ctrl + alt + del thing to get back to the desktop.

Weirdest thing, I don't think my gtx 580 is fully stable stock. That error I posted always happens with the stock volts, but as soon as I bump it up to 1.025v it runs fine. I wonder if it has something to do with the card breaking in :shrug:

It first crashed playing bc2 after 30-45mins. Once that happened for the first time it would never go for more than 10-15mins before it would crash again with that same error. Bumped up the volts to 1.025v and no problems playing over 30mins. Turned it back down to 1.013v, and it crashed again after 10-15mins. So now I'm just leaving it at 1.025v because it seems to run better.

It seems I have to keep bumping up the volts slowly on stock clocks just to keep it from freezing with some minor artifacting. Stock vid is 1.013v, then I bumped it to 1.025v which eventually wasn't enough, and now I'm at 1.038v to keep it running. I guess it might be time to RMA.

one 1.025v green and one 1.025v orange both do the same clocks but the green has the edge and ill use it as main

greens are just as good as the orange.. oranges are just as bad as the greens

I was having similar issues and ended up reinstalling Windows. Too many Cats and Nvidia drivers had previously be installed and there was no salvaging that old Windows install.

reinstall the drivers as that has been the issue from the getgo and dont use any oc app and see how it does

if that doesnt do anything try another psu if you got another

or what trn said above ^

If you looked at one of my previous post I actually fixed the driver issue. I installed it in a slightly different way. I used device manager to uninstall, and ran a driver cleaner in safe mode. Then I reboot and install the drivers. Well on top of that I used the clean install function that nvidia provides when you install their drivers. Long story short my frames improved after a proper install and things ran smooth.

Now when you say don't use any overclocking app what do you mean? Not have any app installed at all when testing?

I may try it if worse comes to worse, but as of now I'm just about convinced the card is no good. Hopefully I can figure out the problem if possible.

Well to eliminate the problem I proceeded to just uninstalling all gpu related overclocking programs. And to my surprise it helped a little. It didn't crash as fast at stock voltage, but it still crashed which still bums me out.

I think I'm gonna just reinstall the drivers just one last time. If that doesn't work, then I'm getting a replacement.

Are your results single 580 GTX or 580 SLI? Your first post is not clear in only stating 2x 580's but the results do not say SLI or not. Great numbers in anycase.

Its on air, my water block hasn't even been used yet. Trying to sell the block actually. I don't think its a temp issue either because my ambient is pretty cool. I would say room temp is 20c or below. Load temp doesn't even hit 75c with fan set to auto.

My GTX 480 behaves exactly the same, if you underclock my 480 and set Vcore to 1.138 it crashes! It's fine at any clock as long as I don't go above 1.125V, I ran OCCT for 4 hours with only 5 errors at 900MHz core with 1.125V. Are these stress testing programs (OCCT, FurMark) representing real world games loads or are they greatly exaggerating things?

yeah I'm gonna return my gtx580. It has a low vid, but it overclocks like crap. Even though I can hit up 950-960, its not even close to being stable. I think the lower vid thing is a myth, or I just have a bad card.

Good luck with returning it, my vid is .0986V and it don't even like 1.138V! The lower VID thing is a myth because other components on the PCB could limit your overclock.

I wasn't trying to be ignorant or anything. If you read the first page of this forum, I actually did finally get the drivers installed properly. I even explained how I fixed it. Still my card keeps crashing in games after 30-45mins of gameplay. Having to increase volts on stock clocks to keep stable is an issue to me. Believe me I've been trouble shooting the card practically the whole weekend so far. I've done every piece of advice here on the forums and my best friend google.

Although I completed crysis benchmark at 950 it was artifacting. I would actually say the card was legitimately stable at 930mhz on the core though with max volts.

look like i said you got a good vid there if you quickly rma it you may end with a much higher vid and still having the same issues make sure you rule out everything your whole system unless you are sure its card

can you try a beefier psu? another motherboard? another system

card clocks up to 960 in crysis and yet you cant game at default clocks ??

reset motherboard bios.. reinstall windows.. something somewhere down the chain is the cause

then again maybe its the 580 just rma it

The card runs crysis at 960, but it was only 3 passes and artifacts and stuttering were defiantly apparent. I don't even think it would run the game legitimately for 5-10mins.

I would like to try it with a different system, but the one I'm using is the only one I have right now. I sold my other board and chip. However i do have an extra power supply, and that's the only thing I haven't tried. Personally i think the psu is fine considering it ran my gtx480 perfectly even overclocked. Hopefully some new drivers come out soon. Maybe I'll get better results.

but i think all is not lost in your case,unlock the bios try 1.16v i bet it would stable and be ok temp wise.
here is my 1.08 vid card with shams unlocked cold bios.
1.16V AIR many repeated runs temps stayed ok

Any one thinking of buying GTX580 ,I think should wait till HD6970 come out & I think 6970 will be or could be 5-10% faster than 580 .......

cowie, what does the cold bios voltage go up to? I saw you got a revised bios over on guru3d forums too...how is that one working? Using afterburner?

It isnt in sli i only have one 480! Could b because of i7!

I test gt2 and gt4 for gpu clocks, gt1 and gt3 for cpu then full run.
950 for all tests stock cooling 1.16v.
My "diced" card was easy to run 1070+ 1.21v but gt2 and gt4 was sucky 709fps max.I have found it to be a low scoring card NOT RELATED temps.
tested in vantage/3d03 @900/925/950 air on each + same os,bios and rig.
right now i am switching the gpu pot for the good card,but only dust left in cooler no more dice :shakes: :D

You have "coldslow", phenomen happen on GTX 480 too. You need a modded bios to fix this.

Cowie, that evga BIOS won't work. It's only 52k and the 580 bios is around 82k. There is apparently a bug with gpu-z, and it dumps the bios incorrectly. You have to use nvFlash v5.100 to dump to get the correct image.

Go here and pick up a correct evga bios
