well it has begun...
issues so far... not sure how I should bend the evap into the cooler... not sure if a D5 pump will be ok for these low temps...

With a D5 I would not go past +30c Look into IWika pumps or like those. D5 is for water cooling only IMO.
For bending the evap. One way is by hand and lots of patients. Another is using compression fittings if you can recharge it or have it done.
If all of this is over your means take it to a shop and have it done for you.

I am thinking about cutting the bottom out of the A/C unit and not having to bend the evap at all...
I can braze... I might be able to evac the unit... however I do not have the refrigerant to charge it, I do have manifold gauges... but the HVAC guy down the street does have access to the refrigerant... :up:
however the goal here is to avoid opening the system... if I was going to open here up I would simply get rid of the stock evap and build a phase change cooler :shrug:
My D5 and D4 have been handling my slightly sub-ambient water(19C-25C) just fine. Also, we tend to abuse our central air so my system ran at 27 idle easy back on regular water. Both of these examples 24/7 use.
I can't provide much input on bending the suction line, Im not at such a phase guru level xD
this will all be ran in my storage room which is right next to my office!
this was the first test... I will be fully submersing the evap once I patch the hole in the side or the cooler

last night I talked to a guy that has been running a D4 pump @ -30c for about 4 years... so I am not worried about it... he did mention that if you plan to do any work at all to the pump you must must must wait for it to warm up or it will break :rofl:

You dont want to run real cold coolant through a block made of plastic/acrylic/delrin, it may crack

I am going to fire it up today and use a lazer thermometer to get temps on the block face
ok it takes around 45 mins to pull to 0F at the water block face... not too bad if you ask me
looks like next friday or saturday I will be insulating my board and installing this chiller unto my PII 965, I can already do 4.0GHz on air if I run my Kaze Ultra (130+ cfm) instead of my Delta (90 cfm)
I will also be switching over to a tech station to make my life easier!
so I am hoping for a solid 4.5GHz machine
Whats your plan for the water lines? Insulating, or are you going to run it to just below ambient?

well I relise that but I would also have to run the unit more often to maintain temps, at this point it takes about 3 or 4 days for the coolant to reach room temps, it would take much less time if I had less fluid...Quote:

ok everything is cold at idle (less than 0c) but almost instantly the CPU hits around 18c on load (4.2GHz 1.425v Phenom II 965 Black) is this normal or do I need to tear into the block and reseat?
however the coolant in the res stays around -7c

I don't know what thermal paste you are using, but it looks like it's freezing and becoming less than useful.
You should probably use something like AS Ceramique. Or IC diamond.
Also, I don't like the way that contact patch looks at all. Check with no thermal grease or anything and see if the block rocks around on the CPU. It looks like you just used too much paste though.
well I mixed it, not very pretty but it should work, tested for leaks with my dad's vac tester on one port and my thumb on the other port

Did lapping or refitting the cpu block help you with the temps? From looking at it i think it would of, but still not fully as the liquid rose to -7C that was in the res. What btu is your compressor eric, its a rotary right? Hope your happy with it, it does look great so far :)
Get a tube of this: Permatex 80038 Prussian Blue ink,,,,,,,,,,,,,Its a type of ink used by tool and die makers mechanics of all types. It is blue when applied but the places contact is made it turns silver. It wipes right off. I uses it to check shaft to bearing tolerances,setting up ring & pinion gears,checking how flat a surface mates to another,and many more uses. It's cheap and should work great to see how well of a lapping job you did.
