Did not realize it was a requirement for me to buy/test every board out there........
Now I have been busy with stuff so no reviews from me this time around.......see what i have been working on in a couple days.
For reference the above results were done on a stock cooler....
no offence chew* but that is true. every one is showing off with C4F and it looks like it's the one and only board for AMD. but it is not. it's boring to see only one thing in several threads. (hope i did not make fatal mistakes when i wrote this, i'm foreign guy)

And why...they performed pretty damn well. Then it was DFI for AMD. I've grown pretty close to these Asus boards myself the last few years, and the Crosshair III is pretty darn good, especially at 3D. I too have a Crosshair IV waiting for a Thuban.
Fellas, it may be that the Asus, being available early out the gate, can account for the many early benches. I'm sure Gigabyte(also very good) and the others will be making their fair share of bench showings...patience my friends:D

chew*, I hate to say it but can you (guys) put a 555BE in that board and test the memory controller?
A few months back coolaler posted some 1000+ results on this board and I believe they were done on a 555BE. The only reason I'm saying this and other people are asking about other boards is because the Crosshair seems to be a star at clocking RAM. The title is kind of misleading if that be true.

TBH mem clocks vary from board to board.......I have tested many.....the C4F is one of the most mature atm........
Working with many boards atm and trying to help with tuning best I can say....
Rather not have my results compared to others as while there focus is on "2000" ram speeds my focus has always been and always will be Tight timings for max performance.......if i lose max clocks due to trying to get tightest latencies so be it.....I refuse to post some 10-10-10/9-9-9 crud however.
My only goal was to put "timings" out there that i worked out for hypers for end users :)
Will be benching on a few boards in the next few days, we shall see how they far as well......
As Randi stated......not all boards have been available right off the bat.....not all boards are dialed in yet.....I like using what works....this board seems to be one of the currently tuned in boards.

Since back in the day, AMD has always thrived on the tightest timings possible as high in Mhz as feasible at the tight timings. Running at 2000Mhz 9-9-9 or 10-10-10 on AMD is only bragging window dressing, if you bench 3D with that you WILL get spanked by the guy running high NB and 1750ish 6-6-6. You will get spanked trying to run any memory intensive bench where low latency and overall system Mhz rules.
Don't get caught up in the high memory Mhz game just yet, until the memory manufacturers find a way to reduce latency at the higher Mhz.

I would also like to see the older phenom II chips put in these new 890 boards and see if the same mem clocks for Thuban can apply on Deneb. With the results that i have seen with Thuban it would appear that AMD did some pretty good performance increases to the IMC for DDR3. People seem to be able to handle higher NB with less volts and in turn able to clock some nice DDR3 speeds close to 2000mhz with what appears to be relative ease. I would like to know if indeed Thuban is better memory wise or is it the new chipsets that are making for higher mem clocks.
For sure the IMC has been improved in Thuban. Before I had to bump up CPU-NB voltage to a minimum of 1.35v just to even get anything remotely stable on my previous 920, 550, 555 processors. Since I've been trying to find a good OC, while still keeping total wattage lower, I was surprised in my findings that I did not even need to have my CPU-NB voltage as high anymore. I think it's at 1.2v now.
I can even boot my NB at over 3GHz on Air, whereas on previous processors it would instantaneously blue screen.
M4A89GTD Pro: 1880CL7+, memtest stable. 2000CL7 single channel was also memtest stable. Didn't test further.

MSIMAX possible to take a screenie of the bios settings... my CH IV and Thuban ES only are willing to give me 1900mhz on the rams... tried 4 biosses already... 965BE goes up to 1920Mhz C7 pretty easily :(

I'm hoping by this weekend to be doing R + D testing on a CH4 and a 1090T. I have a 965BE and 555BE also for those that may want results.The last few weeks I've set up a CH3 and 965BE to get re-aquainted with the current AMD platform. Much has changed since my days testing on Abit and DFI:) Thank yous to chew* for his insights and assistance. Getting my feet on the ground here and running, tho these fellas clocking with LN2 are beyond my scope right now. I'll be starting with my old custom watercooler and vid card chiller, and also have a 404A modded Prommy. So my results should reflect what the average guy on watercooling can expect. I'm gearing up for 3D too, with a pair of Asus 5870 V2's ready to go.
I'm ready to start having fun again after a very long abscence!

How high are we talking? Because DDR2000 and above is unheard of on AMD (until now).
well above 2100 at those tight timings.....32m is a much diff story even at 10-10-10 wall was present. Wall around 2050 very simlar to the previous wall i tore down at 1904.....when i have the time I will see if it's a hardwall or a wall that can be massaged past.
So demand 32m or it's useless and misleading ;)

DDR2100 was benchable but at rubbish timings (non Elpida RAM, it was CAS9 I think). The better controller might be the biggest reason for me to move :D
My head hurts and my MasterCard is begging for mercy. :D The IMC is going to make a huge difference. So far, my best CPU (ES or Retail) is a random 1055T from Amazon that I bought for my son's system and now he will never see it. :rofl: I sent you settings to try and of course this requires some Corsair GTX2 kits.
Also, we have a couple of memory tables left to fine tune for efficiency but with BIOS 0707, be sure to set HT manually (as high as possible) to ensure best possible write speeds as the tables flip above 1800 and HT on auto will fall back to under 2000. In an early beta release, 8GB at 2000 is working but efficiency at 1600 is still much better at this point.
Any reason why the HT link has to be above 2G for better performance?
In regard to the efficiency: I suppose that Thuban still has the same issues as Deneb has when it comes to memory data transfer. AMD people confirmed that an elevated memory frequency is no use if you don't increase the IMC frequency accordingly. An appropriate ratio would be IMC:DRAM as 3:1, which would mean a 6GHz IMC if you want to make propper use of 2G memory.
I don't recall the bios, it was sent to me a couple of weeks ago. At the time, I had a very small timeframe in which I could test the Thuban using extreme cooling, so I had to go for the best board then.
FYI, I was using GTX2 memory. It's very likely the cause of the low memory frequency was due to incompatibility issues.
It is an auto rule function in the BIOS, in fact raising HTT (Bclk) above 240 with both NB and HT set to auto will result in both of them falling back to 1920MHz (depends on ratios also), which is even worse, they should stay in sync at 2400MHz until the next auto rule limit is reached. So far, most Thuban processors we have tested will do NB/HTat 2600MHz on safe voltage settings so additional tuning is in order for the tables.
This will be corrected in the next BIOS but the main reason for maxing HT is to sync with NB speed (which you obviously want as high as possible on this platform) to keep the current memory table at optimum settings. Right now the rules are set to ensure stability/compatibility instead of maximum performance. Now that the AGESA code is stable for Thuban, we will set different rules when the BIOS "sees" performance settings being utilized.
Before anyone says anything, we went through four different AGESA code levels in the last two months or so as the platform and processors were finalized. This is the reason why we had around seven BIOS releases since the ES samples were delivered in early March. ;)
Yes, to truly maximize memory performance, we truly need higher NB speeds to improve efficiencies as memory increases above 1066 on this platform. This is one of the main reasons I like to run NB/HT/Memory in high-sync where possible and why 1600C6 is still my favorite memory setting for everyday use, provided I have a IMC that allows that setting and 3200 on the NB/HT side. I have one right now that will do it on air so I am fortunate. ;)

So, if I understand correctly, the sole action of raising the HT link isn't gaining any performance (which got me confused in the first place), but it makes sure the memory tables remain at optimum settings. Something in lines of making sure the system sees the NB/HT link combination as 'close to default' so it enables the high performance tables.
Bios is tuned for optimal performance at default settings, and tuned for overclocking headroom at non-default settings. Hey, that makes sense even for me!

Might be the difference between 'okay to run' and 'saturation'. 2:1 might be delivering enough bandwidth to have some sort of efficient subsystem and 3:1 might be the saturation level where the bandwidth provided by the memory is used to the fullest.

You got it, in fact in some of the numbers around here you will see NB at 2100 and HT at 1900, for some odd reason not having those two in sync will throw off the table that is used and memory performance will drop. We figured it out and it should be updated in the next BIOS. This only occurs in auto mode and clocking HTT (bclk) up, but I wanted to mention it so users can experience the full potential of the board.
We will tighten up the tables in the next release. Depending on NB speed and memory utilized the 0505 BIOS might actually be a little faster on the memory side but then some of the disk/3D/four-dimm enhancements are lost.
With very little time I had yesterday playing around CH-IV + 1090T I've noticed setting NB and HTT in sync gives best memory latencies and write speeds.
One thing puzzled me. BIOS is reporting CPU/NB voltage @1.252V, but AOD in Vista says it's 1.15V... A bug in 0707?
Also why enabling Line Calibration to cure Vdrop can cause instabilities? I just enabled it for my last boot very late last night and it worked correctly eliminating Vdrop. I ran out of time to check if stability is where it should be...

I will give it another go just for ref the bios massman is using is easily 100 mhz higher OC potential than the extremely early bios I used, there was an agesa code update in between there. Quick testing with a certain set of sticks that could barely do 1900 did 2000 with ease afterwards with 0707 ;)
Shoving volts into the sticks on air will do absolutely nothing so far, in fact some sticks dislike anything over 1.6875.
Max we are using is 1.7125.
