What was your previous stripe size, and the HDD score with that?
Just wondering, have you tried running your acards on 1 port each from ICH10R with small stripe? (4-16KB)
Or LSI 9211/9260 with small stripe and newest firmware/drivers?
BTW, have you noticed any difference in real world usage with the smaller stripe?
Previous stripe size was default 64k and pulling out all the stops my best pcmv HDD score was ~74K.
Also - all the HDD tests were run with the array not as boot and with cpu at 4.5ghz (not 4.8 as was the suite test).

Sure, start a new thread if you want. I've been thinking of making a dedicated thread for expanding my IOmeter project mainly focusing on SSDs, i have like 20 setups already, but would love to add more extreme ones.
But now i've been awake for a bit over 40 hours, boosted by serious amounts of caffeen (about 10 redbulls in total) now wearing off after gaming the entire friday night and saturday, so i'll just eat something and crash for 16-18 hours :P

this isn't my chip friend, this is taken from HWbot,
you'r chip was going ~1.584@ 4.8GHz where chips alike with these clocks at this speed, went fine ~1.72 @ 5.5GHz on SS and ~the same proportional voltage,
you can have a look at the CPU-Z benchmark results there, they scale from ~4.5 or so and up to 6.8 by NickShin here from the forum,
most guys till 5Ghz still use air cooling to reach these clocks, some uses H2O and LN2 to reach higher,
i brought the SS specifically to show that 5.5 is doable with a regular 980 at ~1.75+-.
some of the chips there where going much lower, these were generally ES chips going even IIRC ~1.6 (talking INSANE numbers for 5.5Ghz 980 chip),
NickShin has brought his CPU, up to 1.9+ core voltage,
what i'm saying, is that these chips CAN generally handle 1.7+ core voltage without any signficant effort,
they can go up to 1.9 and still remain healthy,
for a hour+ run, i'll keep a good eye on temperatures, i think it is doable, and not too dangerous,
it seems to be still on the safe scale for extreme OC'ing.
afai can tell, u'r CPU won't be even under 100% load throughout the all test.
is that correct?
With task manager open and watching - at 4.8 - seems like the highest I saw was about 80% utilization
yeah, that was exactly what u'v said last time when members here asked you,
iirc, it was between 30-80%,
i don't think, an hour+ of testing 30-80% CPU usage would cause any damage,
as a matter of fact, i don't think even 6Ghz would cause any serious damage at these loads,
these CPU's are generally capable of working up to ~10 years running stock,
they can probably go ~2-3 years 4.5, a year+ working 5.0Ghz and we're talking here 100% usage DC working or probably even priming for few month's...
there was a guy (i think it was DAK) from the WCG team here who said long ago his 920 has lost some of his cache after going (maybe 4Ghz) for few month's,
that's the only thing that came into my mind when u showed u'r worries over any damage happening to u'r OC'ed 980,
i think an hour is very minor, yet maybe u should ask there about they're observations..
it could've been a semi-bad chip too,
generally, i would've go for it without too many worries.

Steve...I'd like to preach a little bit of caution here. There are no set rules when using high V & VTT...some chips can take it, some die without warning rather quickly. IF your SS can hold 6 cores @ -35+ for this venture....I think that would be about max. So whatever speed you can get to maintain these temps. Forget about 6ghz, not going to happen. I think 5.2 would be about max....these b*ggers run hot and with this being such a long Benchmark..time will be against you as well. You just won't be cold enough to get really big clocks out of your chip. You would need to at least hit -90 for 5.5 etc. Sorry, just my opinion but better to be safe than sorry and I don't want to see you kill your chip.
Expat, yep I plan to start slow and expectations are adjusted accordingly.

@Computurd: For that you would be talking L2N or Helium... You need to get into double digit Kelvin, prefferably low double digits, to get superconductivity. Most materials need single digit kelvin or very low double to become supercondictive, so you'd need helium (boils at ca 4 Kelvin).

PCMark Vantage simulates Graphics editing in test1, and video editing in Test 2. Hardware cache is good precisely for that. Software caching very bad for that in the real world.
Too bad PCMark Vantage does not credit system memory better in it's point system. My biggest complaint with this benchmark is precisely the lack of fully utilizing all system memory.

PLL can cause instability on the 1366 procs..most recommend lowering it to achieve stability...

Interesting guide thanks ct, on a related note I fail linx almost every time on first boot after raising clocks regardless of vcore. But if I just leave it there anyway (as outside of linx, bc2 and other stuff is perfectly stable) and later reboot like normal pc usage rebooting the next day or something. Linx never fails.
Right now I'm linx 20 stable with much lower vcore/vtt than usual at 4.4ghz only thing different is that these bios settings have been set for a few reboots now. Seems good news as it means I may be able to get to my original goal of 4.5ghz 24/7 with all voltages under intel max.
It's not too uncommon that people overdo it with voltages...I always ty to keep every voltage as low as possible ( but I used to be the other way around....)Quote:

Good morning Jor - There is a corporate version that is suppose to let you get scores on screen w/o going to the orb but i think it is very expensive.
Most folks - me included - tolerate the orb, that said, if you save your results locally and then expand (I use 7zip) there is a file in there that you can browse for scores but not very readable.
Regarding the SS, I am waiting on revised power circuitry - should arrive soon.

9211 doesnt work with FastPath only the 9210 from intel has the pins.
Im using some registry tweaks for 9211 for their drivers.

fastpath will be available for all 92xx controllers in second half of the year with a software key though, steve. right now it is only available as a physical key that you plug in, but in the second half of the year it will be available.
Ourasi just posted a full PCMV suite run on our norwegian forum, in "degraded" state from monhts of use at pretty full capacity, he got 88,5K marks in the HDD suite (2R0 x25-E 32GB ICH10R WBC on) and a bit over 23K overall, with some driver bug messing up one subscore. This was a 24/7 setup like it has been for i'd guess soon a year now. Actually pretty simelar to Nizzen's 24/7 score when i think about it...

i think my HDD scores are good not the best that i have but i think that is a room for perfecting that results without any cache.
Now the only think that i can do is wait my SR-2 to come to make my xeons alive and over 4Ghz 16 thread system on PCmarkVantage.
4 more threads than 980x will show the differences untill x56xx series come to my PC. Futuremark make things run smooth...
when u will brouse my result u will notice that the suite is testing only 4 cores only.. shame???????? i think yes for an 8 core PC.

Just out of curiosity, would any of you guys with a 980x concider running a PCmark Vantage suite with a WD Green drive (or a random old HDD) as OS drive from ICH10R in IDE mode? I'm curious how horrible the penalty would be.
And what score do you get with 1 SSD in AHCI mode off ICH10R?
Do you need SSD to pass 25/20/15/10K points? Or can you pass those points with a HDD RAID off a decent controller?
with WD 320AAKS my result were 8k :P
with one SSD the results are around 12K-13K
with 8 SSD the results for me are 17K+ cause i cant use my cores :/
with Areca and 4G Cache Always read from cache enable, i think u can pass 20K or more

I can occasionally get temps up to 60-65c - usually linx which i try not to do too much!
