Looks like all raid levels except 5 have TRIM for SSD...raid 0 speed freaks rejoice.
great timing... Just loaded my OS on a Vertex LE so I would have TRIM and using my Vetex 120 RAID-0 for storage. Now I will have to figure out which is actually faster!

Hmm, question here: I have one 1.8" 80GB G1 and 1.8" G2 in RAID 0, could I in any way get the Trim function?
The driver states that all drives in the array must support TRIM in order for the array to support TRIM, so no, your array won't support TRIM with that G1 still in there :( Sorry :(
I think that only G2 drives have trim support.
AFAIK Intel did not do a FW update for G1 drives for TRIM support. I have two and would love for them to do it.

It depends if the drive supports TRIM, if yes then yes.
These drivers are better than I thought, for an initial version is good enough, version 2 will likely improve performance.
I would love to have a couple X25-E drives in RAID 0 with TRIM :eek:
So... is there a list of which SSD's support RAID now and which don't? Does this work only for RAID using an intel chipset and not for add on RAID cards? Or what? Someone explain it to this noob please. :)
So for example... does that enable trim for an OCZ Z-Drive? Does it work on OCZ, Intel, and Crucial drives?

From my experience, you should manually trim the OS drive once every 2 weeks to restore performance even though Win7 has automatic TRIM. So in the end even with these drivers, the drives will degrade unless the Intel toolbox gets updated to manually TRIM the Raid array.

Yay, going to do a fresh install once the third vertex comes in, and now the whole thing will be trimmed :D
I think it's possibly to do so by loading the drivers during Windows setup from an USB stick, but it won't install the utility. On top of that, there's really no reason to. Just install windows first then update the driver and enjoy TRIM :up: Be sure to enabled Write Back Caching in the utility for a nice speedboost ;)Quote:

Vista and Win7 support RAID directly. All you have to do is enable RAID in your BIOS and configure it in the setup screen afterward (press Ctrl I during start up). Then, proceed with the OS install. It's a little fishy that the kingston intel g1 drives would work but not regular intel g1 drives no?

The installation of only the driver and not the "all os install package" is indeed very confusing . i also went for the all os install package , because the readme of only the drivers only mention on how to install the install package , not the driver only package .

As you can see sequential writes suffer a lot and are not coming close to 2x100MB which is the maximum for these drivers .
Dudes, do I need also latest firmware for my X25-M 80GB Gen2 drives?
As I have old 2CV102G9 firmwares in.
And is it safe to update it?
like this put controller (ICH10R) to IDE mode from raid -> boot from Intel update CD -> flash both drives -> boot -> raid back on -> and windows and everything will still work?

You should have had trim for a long time now, for single SSDs. Windows 7 supports trim, and if your SSD supports it, you should already have trim.Quote:

I got a statement from Intel...
“Intel® RST 9.6 supports TRIM in AHCI and pass through modes for RAID. A bug has been submitted to change the string that indicates TRIM is supported on RAID volumes (0,1,5,10). Intel is continuing to investigate the ability of providing TRIM support for all RAID volumes in a future release”

On the ocztechnologyforum.com I found some discussions regarding the tool FreeSpaceCleaner aka AS-Cleaner. Is this a tool that can be used for manual cleaning of SSD's in RAID0 setup? Also for the Intel X25-M?
FreeSpaceCleaner seems to destroy performance on Intel SSDs. Just use your SSDs normally, and stop worrying about degradation so much. I've yet to see any degradation on my array after a few weeks of intensive use. It might come later, but Intel is working on a driver with Trim, so we'll be able to clean our arrays soon enough :up:Quote:

Let's hope soon as I was excited about the prospects too after buying one Intel 160G SSD last week. For me one will be plenty fast enough and I'll appropriate the extra funds for a vid card upgrade instead.

There is no TRIM support for RAID'ed drives. You only get TRIM support for SSDs that are not in the RAID but other drives are in a RAID. Before these drivers, as soon as you set up a RAID on normal HDDs but kept an SSD as a non-RAID drive you'd lose TRIM; this is what this driver fixes.
