GIGABYTE P55/H55 Cold boot / Bug fix mod

though there is some way to fix clarkdale 's cold boot and bug
if your using LN2, then could help you down to lower temperature
the first mod is short PEG_Rbias. that pin you can find one cpu backside
and motherboard, so you just need to choose which one is easier for you

tool:
pencil ------- most of time not work, casue you didn't do it very well
silver pen -------------esier
solder ------------only work on motherboard mod, on cpu its too dangerous.

Yes, P55A-UD6 that looks like UD7 on back side can be modded the same way as UD7. I done this mod on such board and can bench my i5-670 with -160C.

I only used MB CBB/CB mod.
Before: CB -85*
After: CB - 155*.

just pick one to mod , cpu or mobo.

if you done on CPU, then you can put it on any board without mod to fix cold bug.

if you done on board, then you don't need to mod on cpu.
every cpu on that mod you mod could be fixing cold bug.:)

I think some people get problem with soldering 0402 tiny resistor.
you can solder the side which measure 0.7k, and connect to any ground
or you can use my way to switch

continue the thread;

if guys you loose the oringinal resistor
without resistor will leave 2 empty points
just short them. for CB mod no need the ringinal resistor work the same.

eheh my resistor is destroyed :) i 've short the 2 empty hole and work fine. You think this lose bclk perfomance or it's the same ?

it won't loose BCLK performance
some tips here.

1. every chip (clarkdale ) like different QPI ratio
some like x32, x36, but don't like x28, vice versa.

2.some CPUs have QPI cold boot. sometimes you run high QPI/bclk oc
you need to boot with low temp, cuz QPI cold boot.

3. 2 core or 1 core status aftects this chip's QPI ratio

What are the effects on Clarkdale, if not under subzero?
Does it damage the CPU long-term?

What dous it do with a Lynnfield?

I have a question I hope you can help. I have a 670 es cpu my problem is it will not boot with default bios loaded, I have to put in another cpu [661 0r 870], set voltage only..shut down, take out cpu then put in the 670, it then boots fine and runs great. BUT obviously when benching subzero I have a major problem, if a fail overclock I cannot easily put in another cpu to recover. 670 will not boot defaults. you see my problem, if you have any idea how I can get around this I would be grateful...modded bios? or some vmod maybe?

btw cpu is fine once it boots, it does the same on ud6 and ud7, it is a fault with the cpu not the boards or memory.

is it possible to mod a bios with set voltages? like 1.3 vcore/vtt etc? specifically for a cpu like mine?

wont enter bios, it goes through a loop like c1 c3 25 etc, looks like its gonna post then goes back through the loop and gets stuck in that cycle, but if i put in a different cpu set some voltages the 670 boots and works just fine, but no good if it crashes while subzero for obvious reasons.

I worked out that the issue is purely down to vcore for example, the board will not boot with this 670 @ default settings, if I put in a 661 go to bios change vcore only to 1.4v, shut down, put in the 670 the board boots and works fine running the cpu....so would a vmod fix this? for some reason the ud6 and ud7 I have are having problems detecting the 670 correctly [vcore voltage] I tried the cpu in another board GD-80, It does boot to bios on that board but will not enter os without upping vcore.

basically my problem is I need either a bios with set vcore i.e 1.4v or a vmod if that will work? or some other way of getting this cpu to boot succesfully. Ideally I want the cpu to post on the P55A UD7. I am only using the cpu for sub zero benching so would just load another bios when using a different cpu. I know its a big ask but I only have this one 670 so would be grateful if someone can help.

does anyone know a pin mod for i5 clarkdale for this issue described in my last post? basicaly removing the BOOT DEFAULTvoltage? I know there is one for the old celerons..is it possible?

Clarkdales have (just like most of the recent cpus) a VID assigned to it. This 8-bit (i think) code determines the default voltage of the CPU ... well, you know how it works. You can look up the info in the Clarkdale white papers on the Intel website.

Then it's just a matter of either covering pins on the back of the CPU or soldering wires on the back of the socket to force the VID voltage.

NOTE: I've never tested this before - do it on your own risk.

Oh and wouldn't it be easier to just do the Vcore hardmod? Change the offset to +200mV with on/off jumper? That's an easy Fb to Gnd mod :D

Its a revised edition of the socket and not the one that caused 'burn' problems that was used in the early p55 boards.

ah therefore there are two version of foxconn clip? how can i understand if it is a new or old?

the boards with the 'a' extention are the newer revisions so will not have the old foxconn sockets, that how I understand it. the p55a ud6 Ithink has a lotes socket...I have both boards p55a ud6 and p55a ud7. ud7 has the foxconn 'new' socket, and has been pushed hard with many cpus with no problem at all. hope that helps.... im not 100% sure on p55a ud6 and p55a ud6c, ....I think they have different sockets, not sure which though tbh.

two week ago, I was thinking of buying a p55a ud7 but for socket question i did not it

i search about p55a ud6c but nothing, only p55 ud6c (not A, it has + 1 sata controller 2.0) but p55a ud6c nothing

p55a ud7 is fine, it has the newer foxconn socket, it is not the same as the one causing the socket burn...Gigabyte would not have reverted back to the old Foxconn sockets for their flagship p55 board.:up:
