Just recently upgraded to an i7 so I thought why not try to make a block for it...here are some pics and temps after first oc attempt...Im using a pa140.3 with 3 noctua 140mm fans ....all parts were machined by hand using power tools and jigs
would appreciate if you could share your temps of your i7s at different speeds and voltages for comparison

For the channels I used a diamond cutoff wheel on a dremel (0.6mm thick)
It took a lot of time to get the 42 channels on that block done. I could probably fit in 7-8 more just didnt have the patience :).. Everything else was machined with straight cut router bits ....most time consuming were the channels which probably took about 3 hours

My blocks were done 3 years back in 2007, when I was an insane 8th grader with too much money at his disposal. I got fed up with trying to mill and properly do anything, so I took the pieces of copper, put about 10 channels with dremels in, then glued it to a piece of white delrin that I drilled some holes into. Then that got glued to an aluminum plate with 2 huge 7/8" or so holes (which the bottom part of 1/2" fittings fit nicely into), which had 4 more holes for mounting on the motherboard. Long story short, sorry I don't have pictures since I did it so sloppily I didn't bother to take any :) The setup is here though : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=174454 I don't use it anymore since the DDC2 was way too loud and drove me crazy.
Your channels are really amazing though, how did you make them so neatly? My block looks like some monster from a horror film hot a hold of it, and put a nice few scratches into it.
Wow nice dremel work there man!! i bet that it mostly performs on par with the HK LT, you should send it away to Skinne or Vapor to get it tested against the known blocks out there

Very nicely done, OP. This is the sort of thing that I'd like to see more of... I miss the earlier days of enthusiast water cooling ('ya know, when we moved from slot back to socket).
Total cost was around $40 and as far as time goes I think there was around 10hours of active work.The rest was just thinking of ways not to screw things up :)

My friends father owns a fully outfitted CNC shop, i have always wanted to make my own blocks with them have just never got around to doing it, i should make my own GPU block as that is what i need atm
But you really should get in touch with Vappor and have him test your block out he might even send you one to use in the meantime

FireDragon if Vapor is up for it I dont see why not especially if I can get a block to use in the meantime.... anyways I have some mods in mind that may make the block more efficient...I will be pulling it out in a day or so to add a inlet right in the center of the block and use the existing two for outlets joining them with a y fitting... might be a waste of time ? :shrug:

The Water temp stabilyse after 3-4 LinX run and never go hotter with.
Shtrafenhoofen seems to have pretty low Room temp ... look at his GPU temp. ~18.1°c on the PCB.... he may be at ~15°c room ... or lower ... I dont think his block can handle such nice temp with a 22°c+ room.

Online metals, industrial metals, mcmaster carr, whatever online small quantity raw materials stores you can get from googling "copper plate". Usually the shortest they'll sell is 1 foot long. I think Petra's carries 2 inch square ones, but they might not anymore.

COoLBoX09 the piece copper I picked up was just from a local metal shop in Edmonton ...I paid $20 for a piece 1/4 x 4 x 6"....also if you want jig dimensions /pics let me know it might save you some time and headaches

Finally found some time to make changes to the original block design..
pin count has increased from 38 to 54 and the copper base is much thinner now...overall I am getting 4c lower load temps even with the nb block that was just added
should I leave the nb block without any channels ? Ive seen that the swiftech mcw-nbmax doesnt have any...so maybe it doesnt improve cooling much ...let me know what you guys think, btw the mb is a rampage 2 extreme

If I was to change the inlet to a central position maybe there would be some more improvement

JASSAF for the stress test i used linx 0.64, everest was used just for monitoring
I thought that linx stresses cpu more than occt but I might be wrong
You should let Linx to go for, at least, 30 minutes. This way the temperature of the hole system will stabilize and you will get max temps.Quote:

Amazing block bud. I do have what may be a dumb question that hasn't been asked. I am planning on making a P55 full coverage block, but where did you get the O rings for yours?
I picked up the o rings from a local store in Edmonton called Liquid seal
they stock any diameter you could possibly need
I will try to find their number so you can give them a call when you get going with your project

Nice, takes me back to the late 90's when you had!!! to make your own block. I still have 2 slot 1 cpu waterblocks i made. And dam that base is crazy work!!!

Some day I'll have to open up my blocks (they won't be used for a long long time, as far as I know), and show everyone what they look like in contrast to this, I had the patience to cut maybe 7 channels if I remember correctly, and I ended up making the surface look like the skin of a 3rd degree burn victim.

It seems like this is the best this block can do
I would like to try the xt block in my system just to see how much better it would do since they are very similar, exept that the xt has many more pins
...now that Im finally done with the block I can go back to finishing my pc case :rolleyes:
