Many thanks go out to Jamie (TheKarmakazi) for hooking me up for cheap with this wonderful motherboard, Dave (Movieman) for calling Supermicro to get me a working bios (I know, the poor bastards at SM tech support :rofl: :sofa: ) and of course to the person supplying the CPUs for making this happen.

As to why it's stock, it's because we haven't found a way to OC the thing yet.:rofl:

And what do you know, Tyan emailed me this morning, with a new bios for the S7002 - so now I have TWO Westmere-capable DB boards, whereas yesterday I had none :rofl: :shrug:

Bad news: Board freezes at 135,7 mhz (even earlier than with the Gainestowns) --> chipset issue :shakes:

Good news: Turbo is implemented correctly, the CPU holds a 24x mult even when fully loaded :up:

Why would he go back to quad for Sandy Bridge... sure it's twice as fast, but it can't compete with say - an octo core Sandy Bridge. :rofl:

I ran prime for exactly one minute, to take the shot and test how the turbo modes behave - not much sense in priming a stock CPU is there :rofl:

Some serious tests/benches tomorrow, if the postman delivers :cool:

And that 128 thread beast I posted a few months ago - all that was were the first engineering tests of these placed in an 8 socket board... (8x8 with HT) So it's plausable if nothing else.

Unfortunately BOINC is bugged with that many threads, it won't run more than 12 WUs and the Benchmark keeps erroring out, lol.

Also I have to go, client emergency ^^

Note I will only have this setup for a VERY limited amount of time, as the CPus are only on loan.

So if you have any benchmarkr equests, post them soon. I will be doing Cinebench, Frybench, wprime, 3DMark 06 and Vantage (CPU only, no GFX cards to spare) as well as maybe some SiSoft Sandra runs.

I dunno guys, maybe resolved with a fresh install of the OS and/or BOINC. Since it's running fine on 16 Threads/Cores. I was told the max. supported Thread/Core count is 32, so it should work.

Ok guys, so here's the first round of benches. Unfortunately 3DMark doesn't like 24 Threads, 06 just fails to start and Vantage stops (not freezes) at the physX preparation.. I can cancel it fine it just won't start. oh well. Futuremark sucks anyway. So here we go :)

CB10 is with HT off, stupid bench doesn't support more than 16 Threads. It's high time for a CB11.
Really impressive one is the Fryrender (if you know it), I managed to beat a Quad Socket Istanbul clocked at 3,2Ghz :eek: :up:

Dammit, I'm exhausted. Nothing will work properly around here.. looks like yet another Jmicrap SSD died on me (I use them for crunchers because I can't burden any customers with those :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty drives).
The Tyan is Bluescreening for no reason, while being primestable at the same time. So I pulled the CPUs and put them in the Supermicro. No post. After hours of testing and trying, it seems that the 2nd socket of the SM is dead. Great.
So I put the chips back into the Tyan, reinstalled and put Win7 on it so <I could finally get some crunching done. It still BSODs at random, for example if I try to access the network. Sharing stuff is fine though. WTF... Anyway, as soon as it's loaded it seems fine, so I'm gonna drop dead now and let it rip. Stupid Alpha hardware.. can really get on your nerves.

wprime 2,00 is faster. So yeah, basically this matches a Duak Magny-Cours with double the core count, not bad ;)
It will probably even beat it in memory intensive benches I guess.

Bad news is, this is really alpha hardware at its worst. The System is as unstable as it gets, bios is more alpha than beta as well. Random BSODs, while opening various readout tools, while acessing the network, and, while running BOINC. The machine reboots or BSODs 2-10 minutes after starting BOINC, so right now, this simply cannot crunch, rendering it effectively useless. So I just shut it down before I had to leave yesterday, sad but true.

Funny thing is, it does run prime. So it's not a cooling/PSU/mem issue. Ran prime blend for 3h with no errors, stopped, started BOINC --> reboot
Started prime, opened coretemp, opened CPU-Z ---> reboot

Hoping for a fixed bios. Can't use the SM because the SMs 2nd socket does not work, why ever the hell that is.

And to top it all off, my 3rd or so brand new Z7S just went down while I was away. Hooray. Gotta love hardware...
