The only thing I see is one banner for crucial up top. I don't see the big deal, it seems very non-intrusive to me.
edit: ahhh, just spotted another, for gigabyte, at the very bottom. Still seems like a non-issue. :shrug:
Alright, I just checked all my computers on my network and none show anything (logged in or out).
Maybe OpenDNS is blocking ads for me? :shrug:
At home the ones at the top are gone, just the one on the right and the one at the bottom left, I'll check tomorrow at work if I still get the weird ones from scammers at the top.
firefox portable ftw, when you set it up, make it copy proxy settings from IE (even if you cant access them firefox will) then add the mods (use google how to add them) :cool: never failed me onceQuote:

At first glance, it seems like in the US, it's only Crucial, and elsewhere it can be anything.
Using Firefox 3.5 with NoScript and AdBlock Plus, I see no adds, at all... But yeah, +1 for having PC related ads at least, if we absolutely have to add those.
Gautam , you are 100% correct , i get them in spanish sometimes , also thers one loud one saying i won 10,000 dollars lol flashing and taking all the upper screen lol.

I could block the ads, but seeing as I don't pay for a membership here I figure the least I can do is view the ads that Fugger puts up to pay for this great site, thus generating hits and making money.
I see some ads from ad.yadelmarg and others ( the ones with click here to claim and such). These are really annoying and have NO place on XS. I appreciate ads from PC parts manufacturers because they benefit from this forum.
Just one ad in the for sale area bothering me. It blocks much of the product descriptions. Cannot logout in there as well as it covers the logout option in the top portion with the (index of Intel Core). Don't mind ads as long as it does not impede with site functions and with posts.

Yeah, pages are loading slowly for me for the last 30 minutes or so. I had a few database errors also.

I had my adblock disabled for XS since I don't mind seeing the Crucial ads. But after the "get ripped quick" ads came on showing pics of muscle guys... I turned adblock back on. Sorry XS :(

Agreed, the "get ripped" add and "congratulations you're the 1000000th visitor" scam adds severely cheapen the look of the site. I'd also much prefer to have no adds when logged in, but if they must stay, they at least should be relevant to the target audience of a PC forum.
As I mentioned on this site only ads from PC parts manufacturers are allowed on this site.

This ad problem is really getting on my patience. The Crucial ad is fine with me. The ones that aren't fine with me are those vith you'te the 99999th visitor, you won and such. I wist that those crude were replaced with ads from Asus, Gigabyte, Intel, Biostar and other pc parts manufacturers. The worst case scenario would be ads by Google which are again fine with me.

I've got no problem with the site having ads, understanding that most sites have them. But the site is slow, always waiting for the damn ad to load. Plus some cover part of the posts, and half of the templates are all messed up now. Can we please just get it working right?
I want to add something to that ever since I noticed these only to be described as spyware crap ads this site has been slow using firefox the page loads quickly but just the top logo everything else is gray I looked at the bottom of Firefox which shows what its loading what do you know its the damn adds, im logged in, At work we have a filter the page loads fine without adds but at home its a PITA.Quote:

I was happy to live with just seeing Corsair ads, but starting today I'm seeing ads from a lot of those little scam sites. Worse, they have audio and that's just plain annoying.
TBH if that doesn't stop really quick I think we might just see a large drop in visitors. I know I am getting really annoyed clicking around and hearing about all the new things I've won.*
*No, I don't want to get plugins to make the ads go away. It solves the problem for me, but the only way to make it really go away is to watch it and be vocal. Having the site start to die because people who can't turn off the ads (or are just visiting and shouldn't have to) doesn't help anyone.

Corsair, Crucial, Gigabyte, etc... all those are OK (as long as they aren't too intrusive, like the adjusted one on the side seems to keep throwing the forum spacing all wonky). But if it isn't PC related, and is some of this other crap, it really needs to go :(

I also understand the importance of ads.
But as a short term solution... come on, help yourselves! :shakes: Not every site is going to remove ads for you on demand!
Get FireFox, get AdBlock plus add-on, and you will see no ads, none, zero! And pages will also load quicker.

I also use NoScript add-on, but doubt it is necessary for XS, it is generally very helpful, though.

But I very occasionally really, really hate the way this site is run. I don't mean this as a personal criticism, because I know this is a spare-time hobby and Fugger & Co. have no obligation to keep the community running, but seriously - the number of times XS has gone down, or changes that should have been tested on a dev server have buggered something up for everyone and caused massive issues (a la the ad situation), is absolutely inordinate and creates a bad impression to those who might not be here long-term.
I'm sure many folks here would be willing to help out as far as fixing stuff on the code/software side of things goes - perhaps we should be making more use of our community resources here?
Finally, it'd be great if we could get some kind of an official response here, even if it is just "Sorry guys, we buggered things up, our bad, this isn't new XS policy, we're working to fix it".

The spam ads problem really infuriates me to the limit. I might sound harsh but this crap has to stop now. I know that the forum and site need money for hosting and server maintenance and publicity brings the much needed money but the spam ads have no place here. I agree with everyone else here in that the talking ads have got to go. I don't mind ads on the forum and I will generally click a few to help XS out. But the talking ads must die. That is way over the top. I am constantly bombarded by a stupid "Congratulations!..You won...blah, blah blah" every time I go to a sub forum or even refresh the a damn page. :down: Really poor taste XS, really poor taste.......

so I went ahead and re-enabled 'no script' in FF for XS and all my problems went away...
