Does it need any heat sinks or is it good to go since P55 runs so cool?

Wicked stuff. Fun times ahead with these boards. You wil need a heatsink, although passive works fine on the ICH. More tweaker options on this board than any other so far.

cant you guys make those PCIe jumpers into something more user friendly like slide on and off position or even using those jumpers that you can easily grab onto that have a bit of an extention facing up

i like the look of that socket area. Prefer that over classi that has a socket close to the edge. i always fine that iceberg that sank the titanic on the edge of the board much like Giga X38/48 board did :D

it has to be tough enough if not many new users will be calling to say their pcie slots died.

Well I figured there were more mobile phone users than Streetfighter players (though i play a crappy Ryu :P ) , plus the other time i was texting a friend while pouring LN2 and it felt so natural to me....

It's the mainstream chipset and X58 is the high end. Just like X48 and P45, X38 and P35, etc...

theres no gap, the holes will overlap into each other to form peanuts

the socket is not rotated but the 775 mount holes are

they only have 16x pci-e2 coming from the CPU then 4x pci-e1 coming from the SB they cant do much with it, if u wanted more lanes for sli then u would need the nf200 but that chips is worthless for sli and just adds latency so its rather worthless to want more (and it wouldent make sense for intel since this is main stream and 3/4gpu would be high end)


dose it have a header for a TPM chip next to the front panel header or is that for the ecp

Hope the price is not soo high :p Looks really cool and I can't wait for some first testing results from sham. specially how the 8x/8x SLI/CF and bclk behaves and what RAM voltage is healthy.

Got a beta sample here, early doors but some of the tweak options are gonna leave other vendors in the dust (P55 prodding and poking adultery).

According to the pics, it is x16 (x8 if slot 3 is occupied), x4, x8 from top to bottom. So SLI/Crossfire would be in slots 1 and 3 so your cards can breathe.

He he. Not exactly what he is asking but even if it's manufactured by a thirdparty like Foxconn, so what? EVGA runs it's own QA and RMA departments and going through the lenghts they go to honor these, as displayed by some recent rather controversial threads on their official forums, I'd say we're in more than good hands here.

Completed board looks stunning though. Glad they got rid of the red; the computex protos just weren't carrying it like BR or Classy do. In a small way it shows the benefit of having a western company design IT components (vs. a taiwanese one), finally having someone to listen to what appeals to us aswell. People have been crying for all black as far as I can remember and they finally delivered (a certain aw9d max came close once way back). Hope there's not a flurry of immediate me too atempts if it takes on; as recent events have shown it tends to wear out fast.

What's the benefit of having dual clock generators?
Is that black eSATA port powered SATA?
Is BIOS profile switching on the fly? (I don't see the benefit of having 3 chips otherwise since boards have offered saved BIOS profiles for how many years now?)
Is there a higher end SKU coming or is this it? (There was a prototype with dual 8 pin connectors if memory serves me right.)
Also, bean shaped mounting holes vs. push pins? (Lame question I know but Intel might give you hard time if it doesn't work out, no? Or is that one of their looser guidelines?)

Thats an amazing looking board, question is that molex for the sli power as they had on 680i boards and such.

That's one impressive looking board. My only main concern is "only" six SATA ports. I've got those filled already, and my next build will likely include a couple of SSDs to park my OS on. Here's to hoping for a revision board with one of the SATA3 controllers and a couple more SATA ports on it down the road. considering EVGA has released three or 4 revisions of the X58C, I'd say it's a possibility.

That fifth slot is for a "L4" cache chip, supposed to increase performance and boot times and such. It won't show up on the P55s but will be on the P57s a little ways down the road.

1) evga dose this on the other boards
2) its so wont kill the pci-e slots when they over draw from the slot or cause stability problems, dfi and other high ends have it and its needed for tri and quad gpu
3) with dual clock gens i have no clue
4) its for intel turbo memory, like in laptops

maybe here I get the answer. Is evga planing to do motherboard for amd cpus, something like classified ? Or evga is "intel only" ?

With 2 seperate PLL's, period jitter and random jitter of both reference clock signals will be out of phase at the synthesizer of downstream busses (the jitter has nothing to do with clock skew per se btw). Os-Cons are merely dry organics, just like the caps we see used on most boards these days. They're not the only brand to use organic/dry semi-conductor materials.

It doesn't bother me too much, 2nd Gen PCI-Express 8x offers the same bandwith as 1st gen PCI-E 16x and that is more then enough even for SLI/Crossfire. Unless software SLI/Crossfire is used. The thing that bothers me is the 3rd slot running at 4x which will mean you will see a slight drop in performance.

the 3rd slot is coming from the SB its a utility slot like the 4x on the x38/48 and its pci-e1. intel designed it so this wont do super high end so u have to buy the proper expensive parts

have you ever used the x4 pciE 1.1 slot on an x38 or x48 board? resulting xfire perf is worse than with 2 cards iirc :D

The Os-Cons don't offer anything special over the polymers used on boards (both are 'dry' polymer dielectric types). The failure rates of both are identical when compared to conventional 'wet' electrolytics, it's the same material branded as a Semi-Organic (http://www.inelcohunter.co.uk/OSCON ). Failure rates are reduced mainly due to the fact that the electrolyte dries up in conventional capacitors.

That seems like a bad idea for those using stock coolers or anything resembling them.

If you have the holes overlap, you'll have to ensure that the two plastic prongs which get pushed apart by the cooler pin are both pushing against PCB... and that one of them is not pushing into the other hole (resulting in more loose mounting).

How will this be avoided?

The holes are rotated so that exactly that does not happen. Look at the pics in the first post! :)

I totally love EVGA... Really the best motherboard/GPU brand there is.

Almost makes me wanna convert to Intel and Nvidia - ALMOST:rofl:

I just looked at one of my own Intel coolers, it should fit, the prongs are really small and it *should* fit judging from pictures of the board.
But on the other hand, who will be using push-pin coolers on this board anyway?

Plenty of people... 95% of people buy products for what they "could" do, not what they do. Lots of people will buy this motherboard not to overclock right away, but to get a high quality EVGA brand P55 mobo that they can overclock later on down the road.

Don't let the demographic here deceive you.. not all customers will be pouring LN2...

Yeah, I wonder what the gaming experience between (LGA11 vs LGA13) is going to be. Both can be spec'd with i7s !!! How much will triple-channel memory benefit gamers, over Lynfield's inherent ability to OC itself higher (turbo boost) than the LGA13 based i7 @ Stock settings.

Meaning, what actually benefits the end user more..? Memory bandwidth or CPU MHz ??

Not everyone overclocks and I am interested in the mindset of each platforms and intrigued if the Lynfield's will have better benchmarks. Specifically gaming.

i moved them slightly sideways and then it worked :D
but foxconn didnt want it for some reason so they wont have 775 holes on the p55 boards :/

shamino rotated the holes and evga is going to use them afaik :)
so for pots itll be fine, and for tower heatsinks... it might...
