This is not the place to complain about your 720 not hitting high jigahertz.......it's most likely a chip related issue........and not a bug...its a 720 for a reason....

Voltages not applying such as NB vid with Hybrid ACC enabled which has been brought to my attention would be considered a bug.......

550BE is walking er driving to my house, Another Bday present lol.

So now i can tweak with X2 on this Mobo if need be.

790X and 790XT have same NBvid problem. X=DDR2 and XT=DDR3.

Will they add more Ram timing options? Say like drive strenths? This would at least make the DDR2 version alot more friendly to tweak . it would help for some brands to be more stable and run ram like Blades to higher limits.

I've only had the board for a few days and the memory was the cheapest stuff I could find,
but so far it's not doing too bad for an unlocked 720... :up:
Bios F4G is the only one that sucessfully unlocked the 720 but it does have one major problem (see below).

Now for the biggest problem I've found!
The CPU-NBvid (IMC voltage) is adjustable in bios, BUT it doesn't apply the voltage at post. No matter what you set it to it boots at 1.2v... :down:

This makes it really hard to clock your IMC....
What I did as a temporary fix was to run the PhenomMSR Tweaker and have it automatically apply 1.275 as soon as windows boots.
So far this solution seems to be doing the trick, but I'd like to see this fixed in bios.

I have problem with MA790X-UD4, i wrote for Gigabyte suport...I cant changing NB multiplier in F3F bios, if i aply more than 11x (12, 13, 14 etc), PC dont post. I know, its 100% bug, with earlier BIOS was OK, i heard it from diferent people.
Problem si, x4 955 is support only with F3F BIOS.

How much voltage are you applying to NB_Vid?

What does AOD report NB_vid as?

Sux not having this board as I could just probe it with DMM to get actual applied NB vid voltage versus voltage set in bios...

I set CPU-NB about 1.25-1.3 (=+0.15-0.2), NB voltage set as default, NB multiplier 12x , FSB 200 ---->PC not posting :( ...Interest is next: i set for example FSB 230, NB multiplier 11x (2560MHz for NB), cpu-nb +0.15v, NB voltage as default and PC post to win OK. I mean, its only bug in BIOS multiplier for NB 12 and more...So that i cant set DDR2 1066MHz and only NB multiplier for next a little better performance. Max OC with 1066MHz RAMs stable is about 1160MHz DDR2 and it is only 210 FSB. I found yesterday "ideal NB clocks vs CPU clocks: CPU about 3200MHz is the best NB about 1800-2000MHz, for CPU at 3500-3600 is NB ideal about 2400MHz, for 3800-3900MHz is the best NB 2600-2700MHz.

Thats likely not enough......try + .250+.275......the gigabyte tends to need more cpu_nb volts than most boards....also if your ram is not ultra stable increasing cpu_nb frequency will amplify/aggravate the situation even more causing a no boot situation.....also cpu cooling solution will also hinder your NB clocks......NB clocks introduce heat and quite a bit of it.....

Your also using a rather small non teir 1 PSU if I recall?

Basically I don't think your problem is a bug but hardware limitations.......

I have 500w SEASONIC SS-500ET-T3 500W

So in essence you have a peak 500 watt PSU with continuous capabilities of 396W continuos and delivers max 17A to one the 12v rails since it's a split rail .........a card that consumes 200w loaded, not sure of the amps it pulls but I know its not extremely low.....you also are using a CPU with a TDP of 125 watts......so thats 325w ballpark not incuding what the board consumes, your hard drives....fans, cd rom......and whatever else your running....

You see where i'm going with this?....this is a PSU suited to power this system under stock speeds...

Im using a 650watt with PHII 4xcore on 720 @ 3800+and 3870x2,, it is close to taxing my PSU under 100% load. If i had a daul vidcard set up or Xfire i would be toast.

I also have another System with a 500wattPSU 30amp on single rail and it taxes the old 9950 @ 3400mhz with a GTX260. This system can not go higher due to the limits of the PSU.Thats with minamal hardware(1DVDbluray and 1 HD) only CPU Overclocked and 260 @ stock.

A nice PSU to would be a silencer PC750watt for 100% decent PHII clocking with two Vidcards or even three. For running more than Two cards I would get 800watt minimum if pushing the limits with ne PHII.. Just becuase they clock so high the TDP and power Draw goes way up.

But i have only HD3870 and most times in idle :), only CPU burning....

This has got me thinking
Will my CoolerMaster M620 be enough for a 720BE unlocked clocked on an SS with a 9800GTX+?

Hmmm. You should be under its limit if your card isnt Oced ,

Do you have a spare CPU thats higher watts that you could try.

If it still dose it with a higher watt PSU ,,then you know its something other than PSU related.

Possiable lack of volts to NB on cpu and or a good chance the PSU is maxing When Clocked to High MHZ with NB.
That can some what explain ,when you add volts the sytem fails more than improve.

Adding 500 or 1000mhz to NB even with stock NBvolts @ 4ghz could be enuff to hit that PSU's limit when trying to bench.
The PSU probally dosnt pull a 500watt load under preshure.

Check NBvolts,,
Are the Nbvolts changing when you raise or lower them or are you being volt conservative? If your Running it stock and trying to get High Nb while the CPU is 3800mhz let alone 4ghz you probally need more NBolts to cpu.

1.45 vnbvolts @NBvid for 2600-2800nb on my 720BE @3800mhzx3cores .

At least 1.3-1.35v on the NBvolts for the 955 @ 4ghz cpu. It may even want more.

Like Chew said +.250 or even more.

1.2Nbvid (stock) + (+.250 Nbvid) = 1.35vid for the NB. The Hotter the CPU is sometimes the more it takes.(If the heat lets you)

Can your NB clock real high @ a lower CPUclock?

Try this,,
Set ram to 800 or what works to keep it kinda low.

Then see what the NB will do MHZ wise with what ever volts it takes. Write it all down. I do the Same for the CPU.

Then i Clock the CPU where i want it ,
Then i slowly raise the NBvid as needed while im raising the NB mhz.
I always raise the NBvid once the NB stops or BSOD's. When i cant go no More i run it a few 100mhz lower on NB or next lowest.
I repeat untill everything is stable.

I Actually find what the Ram can do timing and MHZ wise ,,before i do anything really. Ive seen the ram hold the Cpu's back because weak ram will limit the Max NB too.


NOTE:
Remeber what the NB does with CPU @ STOCk medium and High OC . As the CPU peaks in MHZ the NB will start to fall off in MHZ as the CPU/NB build heat.

Heat/ volts Causing the overall NB to be lower @ a Max CPu freqency.
This is just one reason why a lot of High MHZ CPU's 3800mhz+ run with only 2600/2800mhz NB 24/7. Unless you have real good watercooling or Air , 2600/2800mhz NB is about the Norm.

The NB/VRM area gets pretty warm at stock and really hot when pushed. I have pulled the pretty blue pieces off the NB and VRM heatsinks so the 120mm fan in the side panel blowing down on them is more effective:

Prior to taking off the blue pieces, mine would lock up like clockwork when TMPIN1 in HWmonitor (correlates to Chassis temp in BIOS) would reach 53C+. CPU temp (atleast what I think is CPU temp) was only reaching 52C when at 3.6Ghz with my budget cooler's fan maxed).

Any plans for Gigabyte to fix CPU temp reporting in AOD / HW monitor. I don't believe the 18C - 23C temps I'm seeing ;) I've been going by TMPIN2 for CPU temp since it seems to correlate with what CPU temp says in BIOS in between reboots.

Any idea where chassis temp is measured; location of sensor?

I had issues running Gigabit Ethernet speeds in Vista64, when hooked my machine up to a Gigabit switch, the ethernet would constantly connect and disconnect. I tried a clean install of Vista, and several different Realtek driver versions (the one on Gigabytes website, the newest from Realtek, and the one off Windows update). The ethernet would only work if I forced 100Mbps operation. I also tried rolling back to bios F4.

Gigabit ethernet works just fine in XP and Ubuntu, so its not a hardware problem. I suppose I should bug Realtek about it, but I figured I'd ask if anyone else ran into similar issues.

I'm seriously considering removing the "pretty blue" peices myself. I'm running the board outside of a case and I notced them getting pretty warm so I put a fan on them. They look nice, but I'm sure they would perform better without the covers, there are some decent sinks under there... ;)

It kinda sucks that you lose core temps when unlocking a 720, but hey, it's worth it and it seems to be a common problem across all boards that unlock so it's probably a CPU issue....

I just bought this board a couple days ago, so thanks for the heads up on where things seem to fail with the temps we can see when unlocked. :up:
I'll be sure to pay attention, and see if I experience the same thing!

I know my 940 always gets squirley around 53c so this makes perfect sense.. :yepp:

chew*: It's not really that big of a deal, but I did notice another problem. Who knows where the trouble really lies, but it seems like the "hooks" to AOD may have some quirks.
The main one I've noticed is the PCI-e clock setting, alot of times adjusting this in AOD will result in it jumping all the way up to 150Mhz reguardless of what you set it to.
Kind of trivial I know, but I thought I would mention it.

I've had some really bad experiences with GBT Phenom boards, in fact I swore I would never buy another one!!
After seeing all the good reviews of this board and the decent price, I decided to give them one more shot...

I have to say, I'm quite pleased so far! For a Mid range board I'm impressed, it actually seems like they are paying attention to thier AMD customers agian... :up:

It's a big deal to me.....I will let them know.....2 hard drives of mine have already been claimed while testing betas due to PCI bus speed having a mind of its own.......one of them my beloved 36g raptor which is no longer with us......

I mean, its 99% BIOS bug, if i change with default clock CPU (3200MHz and1.35V) NB more than 11x, PC not posting, i can to try everythink with NB voltage CPU-NB and nothing....:confused::shrug:
But, if i try this over FSB, its OK. Example, FSB 230, NB 11x,CPU-NB +0.15V, NB voltage default, than is ok and im in windows. In BIOS i cant only changing NB multiplier (example i dont post with default CPU clock and NB at 12x=2400MHz only)
First experiment is with higher NB (230x11=2530MHz) and does work it.
Second nothink post. I mean, its really bug this F3F BIOS, others guy from us have x4 940, he flash this bios and he had the same problem. So gave back earlier BIOS and he said, NB multiplier was here ok.

A quick question, is there a easy way to remove the nb heatsink? Ive only looked at it fast but is it glued or how is it attached to the mb?

But is it worth going the wc road for the nb? I have the block anyway so its basicly just sitting here waiting. Then i guess i remove the heatpipe and the heatsink and leave the heatsink over vrms. The vrms should be colder after or? Since they just handle their own heat and not their own + the nb.

Remove the two plastic pins at each end and gently wiggle to remove the Sinks.

NOTE:
If the Upper Heatpipecooler is attached to the NB(middle heatsink) you will have four pins total and need to remove the unit as one piece.

I usually change the paste on New Mobos.. This is the first one i have not . I want to test the 550BE once it gets here since the Mobo is in a case. Temps seem to be very resonable on my MOBO with Stock heatsinks(blue Shields included)seeing i have a lot of Xflow in my case(2x120's going accross Mobo:D).

YOU need to cool the VRMs. If you water cool the NB Make shure you keep some type of heatsink ON the VRMs ,,

Thats why there is a BiG A$sheatsink on them.


I unsolder the Heatpipe at the VRM end and keep the VRM heatsink on mobo. Then throw pipe and NB in the box incase of the inevitable when using W/B on NB and only cooling NB with water.

Some people unsolder the heatpipe instead of cutting so you can resolder it and NOT(void warranty) on RMA if need be.

Just Heat and you can slide back in,, if RMA knocks at the Front Door.

been leaving it stock @1.2vid because nothing shows what its really @ when you ADD to it.

Tomorrow ill check it out again once i installl the 550BE.

. it would be nice if showed the Volts next to it like Vcore and Vdimm does.

You can use (HWmonitor) and read TMPIN0 is chipset,, TMPIN1 for CPU,,TMPIN2 is PWM on this Mobo.

It will Show the VIDs and other voltages. but wont read temps correct.

Something seems really fishy about that statement to me chew*.

I'm not basing this on what voltage monitoring software says, I'm basing it on the way the system reacts. And it acts like the IMCv's are too low, plus the fact that when you change it in Windows all the monitoring software shows the changes so I don't think it's a detection problem.

I don't have time right now, but when I get home from work I'll try to run some tests that demonstrate what I'm talking about.

Looks like GBT may be up to they're old tricks of just denying a problem.

The core temps have been ridiculously low since the day I built it.
I don't currently have the 4th core unlocked. I tried it with BIOS F2B and unlocked it successfully but then the audio was all messed up. I needed a working PC and didn't have time to figure out the audio thing so I flashed back to F1 and then to F3 (what I'm on now) later on. Haven't tried enabling the 4th core again and my core temps are still reporting too low.

Ahh, I thought they went TMPIN1, TMPIN2, TMPIN3 but on second look, you're correct... wasn't using my Phenom system when I posted.

So the top one in the list, TMPIN0, is chipset? That's the one that was getting very hot before I removed the blue covers and put a 120mm fan in the side panel. The last one, TMPIN2 (you're saying it's PWM/VRM) barely fluctuates, so that makes me wonder if the heatpipe going up from the NB heatsink is defective or the heatsink isn't making good contact with the chip.

I wish Gigabyte would use nylon screws or the wire clips for mounting their heatsinks instead of those disposable white plastic clips. :rolleyes:

I dont have a volt monitor, that i could use, but where on the mobo would you take the reading from to confirm?

Also if the nb volts are working... I would also tend to agree with dave burt as to what i ve seen, i ve been rock solid up to 3.5ghz, 3 core/4cores doesnt matter, but anything above, i start to get page fault in non paged area bsods.. i have my nb at 2200mhz, I do have 8gb of valueish mushkin ram, but timings are loose, and not oc'd, If it were other bsod's it would make sense , my stability doesnt seem to fluctuate on nb vid.. with I have in bios at +.200v so an effective 1.4 amds safe max.. I ll play again systematically this weekend maybe and see what i can come up with, could be my nb is taxed at 2200?

Its not maxed,, I have Done 2400 and My NB does 2800+ @ 1.45vid on two other Mobos.

On THIS MOBO even with +.200,,,250,,.300 = 1.5vid it wont do crap on the NB .. i dont know hwer to look but there is something going on . It may be volts or even Ram related ..

Im still playing around with the Nbvid to see if i can see Temp fluctuations when i raise and lower it. So far i it dosnt matter what i do it seems to stay the Same.

This Same 720 can do 3700cpu/NB2800+ @ 1.55vid with no erors/bsod's on the M3A79_T

I know the M3A VId works 100%. You can see it in the Nb Speed at any speed.

Somethings happening to keep the NB @ 2400 and lower.

Ok guys, as promised I did some tests tonight and here are the results.

Conditions: I uninstalled PhenomMSR Tweaker before the test to avoid any potential interference. I was going to continue the tests with just lowered CPU and Memory settings (to take everything else out of the equation). Unfortunately, with my NB Multi @ 12x (setting used with PMSRT) I got to the Win7 password screen, entered password and the machine failed to load windows... So I used the HTmulti to tweak as close as I could and still be bootable.

Heres the bios settings:
As you can see IMCv's are set to 1.30v

After boot, all I did was open Everest, AMD Power Monitor and 2 CPU-z Screens. Both Everest and AMDPM show NBvid @ 1.20v...
Then I ran a 10 pass IBT run. The result was an "Unstable system warning", IBT failed!

Without making any other changes, I opened AOD and added .05v to the IMC making sure that all other settings and voltages remained the same, then closed AOD. All this was done without any other changes being made and without a reboot. I then ran another 10 pass IBT run.

Now, both Everest and AMDPM show the IMC at 1.25v and the IBT run passes succesfully. Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't know how else to explain this other than the fact that the monitoring software is working correctly and the bios is NOT setting the CPU-NB vid... :(

chew*: I may be able to borrow a DMM from a freind and it seems like the UD5P and UD4P are at least physically similar, could you shoot me a pic of the NBvid measurment points on the UD5P?
At least it would give me a starting point of where to look.... :yepp:

This really is a MUCH better board than either of those, and I can work around the problem to some extent by using Phenom MSR Tweaker but this is a pretty serious problem.
I hope they don't just give up on it...

Hopefully the "powers that be" are watching this thread and can explain the results I got in the previous message... ;)

the NBvid is controlable in AOD ONLY ,, I dont use AOD for overclocking so this sucks... After setting AOD and putting some stress on system i can see the higher temp loads from the ADDED NBvidvolts on the NB.

It seems the NBvid is NOT working in Bios. It can only be adjusted in AOD or Other software. Ive tried everything , Nada, even if i set it to the MAX Nada. CPUvcore is the only CPU volt setting we Have that worksand i have even set that to max. Yup it does Max on CPUvcore 1.81v:D

I have a DDR2 version of this board (790X-UD4P) and I experienced one of the most strange things (not necessarily in a bad way) from a BIOS flash. After flashing to F5A, I saw this EC Firmware thing along with ACC and enabled it. And I saw a huge (relatively speaking) performance boost.

Now, granted Everest cachemem varies each run, but I tried to pick shots that are averages. Memory Read went up by 500MB/s, and Memory Copy went up by 1000MB/s..! At this frequency (228HTT, 2.28GHz NB), Memory Read used to be always 200~300MB/s lower than L3 Read but now it equals or even exceed L3 Read.. Latency seems to be the same (ignore the latency in the 'before' shot because that latency is an outlier)

I also ran 3DMark06 CPU test and the score is consistently higher by 50~60 than before, @3.60GHz. Not a lot, but it's there.

What is AMD doing with ACC and this EC Firmware thing? Does anyone know what exactly it is?

Interesting, so Based on Daveburts testing, and what AOD seems to be showing, the NBvid is not being adjusted via bios. Funny how AOD is showing the correct NBvid voltage, but not cpu voltage...or does your chip run 3.7 at 1.3 volts?>!?!! Also my AOD says my memory is at 1.7v when i ve set it to 2.0 in bios.

I guess we ll see once we get the DMM readings :)

Ok, even more wackyness. When i try raising the voltages with AOD, ie raise nb volts to 1.36, apply... it comes up with the warning etc, then applies..but goes back to 1.2 on the scale...and everest shows the same thing.. no change?!

Try setting +.250 NB vid and 2600-2700 NB speeds...........wait a good minute.......before you decide that its not going to boot........Its going through a cycle when you change NB speed..........

I just passed cinebench 4050mhz cpu and 2700 NB with according to AOD 1.1NB vid ;) so I would say that its just being reported wrong.

So once again like I stated you can send images to gigabyte till your hearts content........If you do not send them a shot of bios setting and a multimeter readout they will not take you serious ;)

I will see if i can figure out the reason its taking so long to apply the settings and see if we can speed it up a tad......

So set NBvid +.250v and change the multi to a boot? Should i try a lower divider and boost the cpu fsb? I just want more memory stability, i know with 8gb of ram my oc potential is lower, but if i could get it to 3.7 i d be happy :)

Ehh i'm running 225 fsb but only to run the ram at specs.....post a screenie in a few trying to get 2900 benchable...........

yeah bumped the fsb to 210, have my rame (ddr2 800) clocked to 820mhz, 1.8 stock volts, to 2.0 and tried the + .250 nb vid.. booted no problem :) Ran OCCT, detected a core error on core1 with cpu volts at 1.475 .. not sure how to tell which core i unlocked when i put on hybrid.. so for now, 3.5ghz is 24/7 stable, with 2200 nb, nbvid +.200, and multi 17.5 , fsb 200.. i ll try again tommorow, gonna watch some robin hood first ^^

I need help with the bios integrated in the Jmicron chip, the bios is very old and I have problems with Linux, in Linux the HDD connected in the Jmicron sata ports is unrecognized.

Can anybody create a custom bios thats contains the last jmicron bios?
(I not use the F5A bios jet)

I know the jmicron sata have some insures, but I use to connect the E-sata cables here.

The jmicron sata have S.M.A.R.T. in AHCI mode but the SB750 sata not. (or I do not activate).

The official Jimcron site have a change log for the bios.

pc doesn't post or doesn't post fast enough............

I have a port 80 card.....I can see what the board is doing............It is doing something when you change NB multi........and literally resets itself 3 times before it posts.........which takes a little while......

I tried this chew* (@ 2600nb), and it didn't work, the machine shut down and never rebooted. I even took a shower waiting for it to come around, nothing short of a CMOS reset would get it to post again. (It appears my chip just won't do 2600nb at reasonable volts)...

I've been messing with this board most of the day and even though the monitoring software only shows IMC changes when it's done through software it does seem that the bios is making some kind of voltage change on the IMC (I can't imagine I'd get 2400nb @ 1.20v's)...

I managed to get the system to a point where I'm pretty happy with the Clocks/Voltages without having to use PhMSR Tweaker, which is a good thing. :D

The Bios "software hooks" are terrible to say the least. Along with the PCI-e problem, adjusting HTLink multi with AOD doesn't work either....
I'm not really sure whats going on without test points and a DMM but at least I got an unlocked 4th with clocks and V's I can live with.
To be quite honest I'm getting tired of :bananal: with it for now... :p:

First off i set Defaults and unloaded the 720 andInstalled 550BE.

1st BOOT In Hybrid Mode,, F5A Bios UNLOCKED .


Next :
Noticed is Vcore is 1.35v Default.

Then:
NBvid is @ 1.1vid Default... This is lower than my 720 @1.2vid

Now :

Im getting and Idea where the Temps are and will slowly bump up the Volts to see how the Heat rises.

Interesting :

It may be a 955 variant. Its temps are 26c Idle Bios @ 3.1ghz X4cores and 1.34volts .

The 720 was 28c Idles@ stock 2.8ghz X4cores 1.3volts.

It could be the default NBvid too. Only way ill know is to raise it up some:yepp:

I will address the NB issue shortly however I know for a fact its not voltage related and +.20 is not enough for 2600NB on this board currently......I believe I know where the issue lies.....most likely the same issue the ddr III board had with voltage is not applied in the correct order for boot......

It can be clocked...but not easily.....I'm running into similar issues on the UD5P ddr II, I can get crazy NB speed but it takes some serious finesse to do so on the F4A bios which should be public and the same or similar to what your on.

Cool ...thats one to look forward too.

This 550 is Not a 940 , i think its of 955 bloodlines.

Wow, very nice, seems the older silicon, 940 derivatives don't play as nice as these 955 almost but not quite made its. Very nice chip by the looks of it, better than the 720's haha.

Would Running 3900mhz X4cores with too low volts cause the (Bios to Corrupt) when shutting down from windows?


1.45v on CPU and .100+NB.. It recovered to F2bios . I have never had a Bios get corrupt when shutting down Vista.

I ran 32m then I restarted PC. The HD light stayed on and i never rebooted. I had to pull power after switching PSU off . When the Bios Came back it Said Corrupted,, i reflashed F5A again.

Added some volts to Cpu and NB since and Bios seems fine now.
Upped the Volts to 1.47v Vcore and NB @ 1.2v:D

Yah that can happen sometimes on a failed OC.......Board is very good at recovering though.

I have yet to smoke the bios beyond recoverable yet.

Very nice! What kind of Stability tests you running at those sets? OCCT? prime? what temps... I m jealous, haha building a pc out, but almost tempted to switch in a 550 be for my 720 be haha.

Well So far the UD4P is holding its own.

Just Overclcoking in 100Mhz increments watching temps and load..

I dont think i have pushed things yet,, Slowly bringing up the Volts .Havnt even Tweaked Ram and Nb.

Hmm ,Stability im using 32m /Tropics/ and some Crysis between 100mhz on CPU for Now.

Just trying to see where the max Clocks are. Then ill back it down a little and probally run Intel Burn test, OCCT or some other Stuff . So much fun ATM. $109 is more than Justified and the Mobo $50 grabbed @Half off.Still less than a 955:D

I am gonna 1.55-1.65..:wasntme: Im actually pushing mY PSU/Mobo harder than the CPU , I think.

@CHEW,, i can run 2800nb @ 1.35vid @ 4000mhz. I can also use 11/12/13/14/NBmulti no problem. I knew the 720 had a hard time with this Bios. The 550BE runs just like a 955 to the T.. a 550 on AM2+ with decent mobo is amazing.

UPDATE:

I tried Two cores.. it clocks the Same lol , cant get higher than 4200mhz no matter the Volts wierd.

Mine clocks best with Low HTT and using 20x CPUmulti to get up to 4200mhz Max in TwoCores ..After a lot of Hangs in 2xmode i just went back to Fourcores @4160/2700 with 4xcores in hybrid now.:shrug:

It seems harder for me to get Two cores as stable vs 4cores.

I Know its Bios related and Not the Chip ,r my Chip would not Be able to Bench at 4160mhz.

This is with the Dual Bios Function (Normal vs Hybrid)and the Normal Mode seems harder to tweak. I think the UD4P F5a Bios is better optimized for Hybrid Mode.

I just wanted to let everyone know I got a reply from GBT Tech Support concerning the CPU-NB vid setting (I linked them to post #43 in this thread).

They sent me pics showing Bios screens w/DMM readings for the "NB Voltage Control" (chipset). Although thats not the setting I was concerned about, I looked at my message again and realized it was my fault because that is what I highlighted in my bios on that message and I actually had my CPU-NB vid at stock in that pic and on that run.

I take back anything bad I said about their Tech Support, it seems like they are paying attention to their AMD customers again! And it's appreciated...:up:

That being said (and I could be wrong), I'm still not convinced that the "CPU NB VID Control" (Integrated Memory Controller) is working properly on the MA790XT-UD4P, but I won't pester them anymore until I figure it out for myself...

It's quite possible I'm just a dumbazz, but I'll get a DMM and find out for sure.... Stay tuned, I'll let you guys know one way or the other... ;)

I tuned them in on where I think the problem is, possibly why that bios just popped up.

It's kinda of hard for me to actually pinpoint the cause without the actual board in question here....Best I can do is hope my board has same issue.

Hi guys I have a big problem with my UDP4 AM3 board which arrived this morning (along with a Phenom x2 550 and 4GB of DDR3)

Now I got it all setup and running fine with Windows 7 x64. I flashed the BIOS to the latest version F4G, rebooted, the system started up fine and I went into the new BIOS straight away and changed the ACC mode to hybrid. Then set all cores to -2%. Quit out of the BIOS and saved. It warned me not to turn off the power whilst it was writing to the BIOS.

As soon as I exited the BIOS, the system powered off. Now it refuses to power on and boot up!

I have tried reseating the RAM, etc, but it doesn't respond to me pushing the power button, or even if I use a screwdriver to short the power-on pins.

Have I killed it? Or am I missing something obvious?

Unplug PSU and then Clear CMOS. use srewdriver to touch two pin together next to CMOS BAT. Then plug in and FLASH to F5A.

F4 did the same thing when i first loaded it. So i just went to F5a.

Note:
Load sytem defaults right after you Flash.. then always set the ram and your Extra Hardware. Drives. then enable the Hybrid Mode.

My board is the XT version and uses DDR3 RAM, can I use the F5A BIOS from the X version which uses DDR2 RAM?

You will have to google F5 Bios for UD4PXT... i think it was ASUS ASIA site that has it.

Im Bad the F5 is for the Intel version!

After you flash load defaults then set up all your devices or AHCI if you use that. Then Turn on Hybrid Mode and Auto ACC.

Im pretty shure F4g has the Hybrid option. Its also newer updated CPU code.

This MA790XT-UD4P board is pretty buggy, I cant adjust the NB VID because it keeps reverting back to 1.1V. Any value I set in the BIOS gets ignored upon post, when I get into windows and use AOD, I set the NB VID slider tab to anything and as I soon as I hit apply, it reverts back to 1.1V.

The memory divider seems borked as I'm trying to get a 266MHz FSB and a 1:3 FSB/RAM divider but that doesn't work. It keeps going 3:10.

AOD can't detect the CPU voltage and NB voltage correctly - I have them set as 1.40V and 1.30V respectivly via the BIOS and AOD sees them at their stock volts.

I cannot get Hybrid mode to work as the motherboard has a fit and hard locks everytime. I have tried the F4 bios and the F4G bios and both give the same results.

When you set the NBvid it will always read 1.1 in AOD and Everest.


If you set +.200 on NBvid it is really 1.3vid even though AOD dosnt register it.


When you enable Hybrid mode try +2 or +4 All cores with default volts CPU auto and NB auto and DDR# to waht its Volts are suppose to be at the correct divider , what happens?

What settings does it take to run DDR3 1600mhz on this board? I can't even get it prime-stable @ 1600mhz CAS=11 (!!!) with anything between 1.6 and 1.95 volts. My RAM is new, rated at 1600mhz 7-7-6-18. The best I've been able to get prime stable is 1333mhz 7-7-7-24 (any timings lower that also fail). Could it be the board, or do I need to give mushkin a disappointed phone call? (if you don't want to clutter the thread, PMs work fine too).

Unfortunately, I don't have any other DDR3 sticks or DDR3 motherboards to test each component with.

On the bright side, this board will get me 3.7ghz and 2400 NB no problem on an 955 on air, so I can probably confirm what chew said, that the NB VID is being applied correctly, despite what software claims. (Not to worry, all the playing around I did with the memory was with everything else at stock clocks).

I think the UDP4 AM3 needs a Bios.. Ive been searching for results on that Mobo with X550 and im not finding much.

I am very ready to admit it might be mushkin's fault. It seems like whenever I buy their RAM I either get amazing sticks or duds...nothing in between lol.

Same here as CPU-NB voltages works fine. I didn't even bother to look at software reading until I read this thread, but it has got to be working because I have to raise that voltage to go higher than 2280MHz for my 955BE's NB.

Client build used 1600 Corsair CAS-7 stuff, which worked just fine, so I doubt it's a universal board bug. Are you sure you've got the correct voltage selected?

I suppose I'm not actually 100% certain, given that this board has problems reporting voltages in windows. I have gone all the way up to "+.350V" in the BIOS, which the PC Health section tells me is feeding 1.95 volts. I am unfamiliar with DDR3, so I don't know how much farther I can go.

Dont go overboard on the Ram with volts.. Set it to where the Bios is correct for yor rated volts ,while trying to trouble shoot.


Set the Ram mode for speed and see what the setting report on Auto timing?

Maybe try Raisng the TRC value to something like 34 or even 42 or even higher.

It may be that the Mushkin timing dosnt like the Mobo.

Also use Memtest make shure you dont have errors.

if you get errors right away , send the Ram back.

The RAM is rated for between 1.85 to 1.95 volts according to the packaging. That's the range in which I've been testing

That's the other weird thing, this board doesn't obey the SPD on the sticks at all. If I set the timings to auto, it runs the RAM at 11-11-11-27, or something like that (also not stable at 1600mhz). Which is weird because, for those of you who've seen the BIOS on this board, it displays the SPD values in a column on right right side of the settings.

From your description of the problem, I'm thinking dodgy RAM. SPD improperly programmed/not readable, not stable at CAS-11 at 1.9V (!), not Memtested at stock...Memtest will tell you for sure, but right now I'd be looking at the RAM, not the mobo.

Got the same issue. Tried to up the NB clock but at 2400 it's unstable. Anything above 2400 won't even boot :(. Tried applying +.250 on both NB vid and CPU NB vid, but it seems like it doesn't apply the increased voltage.
Now i'm sitting at 2310 mhz for the NB and 1400 mhz with 6-6-6-19 for ram.
Is there any other way (except a DMM - my sister appears to have lost it :mad:) to know if the increased voltages are applied?

CPUvid or Vcore works... CPUvcore only needs about +.200 or +.225 for 1.56volts.. I would clock the CPU to a medium clock say 3500( this can be done with only 1.4vcore .Once thats Stable then Clock the NB raising the NBvid as needed. Once you get 2600 or better with Stock Ram timing then try raising the CPU more. Once its becomes ustable again,, try a hair more CPUvcore . This will usually get you stable again

add NBvid if you are Blue screening or Nonconvegant It will take time. Thes new Bioses are a little tricky .

BIG NOTE:
Ive been able to tweak UD4P in about two days just by setting things one step at a time and writing down what works and what dosnt.

when i frist started 2200nb was my max and 3900mhz was barely stable to bench.


NBvid is @1.1vid stock,,
(NB2600mhz - 2800mhz) you will need around +.250 min if your @ 3800mhz

1.1vid Default,,

1.2vid when +.100
1.3vid when +.200
1.4vid when +.300
1.5vid when +.400

When i first started clocking this 550 i could not get over 2200nb..untill i started using NBvid @ +.250 or higher depending on CPU clocks.


Try with CPU @ 3500 with 1.4vcore and NB@ +.250 or +.275 you should get 2600mhz easy.

Im on DDR2 which is even harder to get NB@2800mhz @ 4100mhz

Ok, i will try it, but you must know - i'm on a 720BE so the stock for NB vid is higher than that on the 550. Right now i'm at 3570 mhz for the cpu and i'm trying to work the NB speed up. What would you recommend for max volts on the NB? Air cooling - antec 900 so it's well ventilated.

As for Clocking the 720,,
720's can use up to 1.55vid depending on cooling.

A 720 unlocked will get about 3600/3700 stable with around 2400nb .

Ive only seen a few that did 3800mhz on all four cores...My 720 was not one of them that did that 24/7. I could only do small runs with it. it was rock solid@ 3600mhz-3700mhz depending on Nb i used.

it took 1.4+ NBvid and 1.52 CPUvid/vcore to get 3650mhz/2500nb @X4cores

My 24/7 with 720BE,, UD4P i used NBvid +.250 = 1.45vid to get the NB to 2600mhz . That was even unstable so i just settle for 3600/2400nb . If you want a good Unlocker a 550 hands down compared to 720.

Last Both My Chips 550 unlocked @ 4100mhz and 720 X3 @3950mhz.

Green is 550............Red is 720.
I had to run the 720 in NormalX3cores so it could keep up. the 720 in X4cores @ 3600mhz only benched 17500 with same Mobo and Vidcard.

So If your using a 720 for benching ,, Its best to keep it a X3 and go for a huge OC on it.

As for the 550 it simply changes the Rules and wipes the 720 clean regardless.
