Does anyone know how to unlock the 4th core on a 720be on the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard!
just put acc to auto?
its on auto no luck!
Sorted now just got new bios F3b works amazing
Here...
Set ACC to "per core" and change value of all cores to +0%
Proven...

I just switched to F3b and now am running four cores 1hr OCCT stable at stock, so I am assuming the fourth core is just fine. I'll do some OC'ing later.
Mine worked just fine by setting to "auto".
Just windows 7 installing the forth core...
Have you tried Vista 64 or XP compared to Windows 7 and if so, did you notice any of them been better at OCing?
Just wondering, does OCCT show the fourth core for you guys? Both task manager and CPU-Z show fourth core but OCCT does not...
on a side note I read techpowerup says 4mb can go to 6mb with ACC turned on, and some bios on X4 m3 chips with less cache.
64 bit will probably bsod before getting into windows.
Try reinstalling it... I guess this is just the down side of unlock the 4th core, but all my temp reading are at 0'C
Any 64bit OS has less OC headroom, I can get 3.8Ghz 3Dmark06 stable, tested 3.6Ghz prome so far, stable with 1.45V
Havent even started playing with the NB...
On my HTPC set up both Vista 64 and Xp SP3 OCed to the same max thought.
I am going to try both on my phenom as well and perhaps give Windows 7 a try as well.
Regards
Try Windows 7048, great performance increase over 7000
Hmmm...I thought some of the cores weren't stable (the locked ones)
why are you guys so hell bent on doing this? Obviously its been disabled for a very good reason:rolleyes:
the spirit of overclocking is essentially get the cheapest crap and o/c the hell out of it .... or so i thought?
so ontop of o/cing the hell out of it, we're also unlocking extra cpus like ppl did with 6200 nvidia cards to get 6600 performance ( 4 to 8 shaders )
Finally got the validation to work. I would say this 4th core is a fully functional one:up: I tried the f4g bios on this MA790FXT-UD5P but 4 cores not possible for me. F3B works like a charm.

Just so you guys Know....AMD has made request to Mobo Makers to remove that feature capability from Bios.
I am not hell bent, I just spent about 30 seconds updating the bios, another 30 seconds changing ACC to "auto", and another 30 seconds starting OCCT.
I've had this mobo/cpu for weeks and this is the first time I've made an attempt to unlock it. I purchased them together on release day before unlocking was even known. I did this just out of sheer curiousity.
It looks so far that I got one of the good chips that just has a disabled core to be sold as an X3, which is further confirmed by how many have had luck with 0904's.
If I have a good fourth core that I can enable with little to no effort and no negative consequence, can you give me a good reason why I should not enable it?
Obviously that didn't matter to Gigabyte because yesterday they just added bios F3b "Update ACC code for Phenom X3 CPU" that enables unlocking.
edit: Also, nobody ever seemed to be upset about people unlocking geforce 6800's via bios mod, how is this any different?
Relax killer it was not a personal attack against you or anyone else in this thread! I am merely stating the obvious:)
I didn't really take it personally, but like I said, if it is a good core, and unlockable, why not? :)
I know that a good portion of 720's are probably 945's that didn't meet spec, but it seems that at least some are 945's that did and have a core disabled. I think that 0904 was a really exceptional batch because of how many are getting successful unlocks and good OC's.
The new official gigabyte Bios unlocked my 4th core! Sweet not time to check if its a good one. :-)
Yes I tried that one because I wanted to give it a shot at unlocking the 4th core.
BTW OCCT doesnt show the forth core but it does use them all. It doesnt show temperature now either.
tell that to the guy who made this thread. it's all a roll of the dice, just like overclocking.
besides
124 for 710
or
169 for 810
only like 45 bux differance, but it's more of an experience to overclock when you get something free. even if you don't get the extra core. who cares? x3 overclocked is still a decently powered cput anyways. x3 is targeted for ppl on a budget to begin with, so it's win win wether or not you get 4th core or not.
4th core is a success for me...3.6Ghz at 1.39v OCCT 1 hour stable! sweet :-)
I envy you guys mine wont boot into Windows when i enable acc. tried underclocking, changing acc %, voltage, no go.
Well this is odd. Xp Sp3 ran perfectly with the 4th core at 3.6 but Vista 64 wont load...not even on Safe mode.
If I try to load it all I see is the loading bar and stays there forever.
I tried disabling the ACC but with this bios even when disabled the 4th core still shows.
Any ideas on why XP Sp3 is stable yet I cant log into Vista 64?
Yeah not all chips seem to be 100%.
I "lucked out" with a good one, unfortunately the f3b bios has the same S3 sleep issue that f3 had for me, whether 4th core is enabled or not. f4d does not have the problem, so I'll be sticking with that for the time being.
If I ever find an application in the future where the 4th core really counts I am keeping f3b on deck just in case.
Its just odd, there got to be another issue here cause a core cant pass OCCT on XP and then not load Vista 64. I mean, I have been able to boot into Vista 64 at 3.9 at setting that didnt last 1 minute in OCCT! :-)
bingo has been stating all along that 64 bit is a lot harsher than 32 bit, I trust his info.
Another 4 core 720BE on F3b bios, 0904EPMW, XP SP3, 2 x 2Gb Patriot 1600LLK, MA790FXT-UD5P, HIS 4870 1Gb.
Ran 3D'06 fine. More testing now, Too happy to keep it to myself ha ha ha.
Edit: Passed 1Hr Overdrive Stability test but have sound problems, kinda like static.
@ Pagen - What is the maximum bus speed / NB freq. you can boot with 4th core enabled?
Chew, I have been using a dual boot Vista64/XP for a while now, OCing all my systems and this is the first time I cant boot into Vista. The problem is, I cant boot to vista64 even if I load optimal settings and try completely at stock so its not an overclocking issue.
Its either the ACC or perhaps something else I am thinking about.
I would go for that theory if I could boot to Vista at stock speeds but not even that. Plus I have had the same OCing speed in all my other rigs for both XP and Vista so all the evidence, at least with my systems, show that neither is better at OCing.
Regards
PS Update: I was able to flash to the beta bios and got it to show only 3 cores and still couldnt load vista 64 so I assume somehow my Vista installation got damaged in one of my previous attemps at booting at too optimistic settings.
I hope I can repair it. :)
I dont know...I dont ever use that feature and that was my first try at booting to Vista 64 with the new bios...it wasnt even a cold boot as I went into the Bios after restarting from XP, changed my boot drive to the Vista 64 one and that was it.
It will be a pain to reinstall vista and all the games I have there so I will try installing on a different partition to make sure its indeed a corrupt installation.
In any case, I am quite happy with my new quad at the same max speed I was hitting with only 3 cores. :-)
This weekend I will finally have time to maximize my OC!
Are you sticking me Old Boy:D.........My assumption would be that the fourth core is Gimped and disabled for that very reason. Perhaps.......Re-Enabling it will put unduly strain on the Processor in General and ultimately lead to its demise. That would be a safe guess on my part:) other then that take it up with the Lab Engineers at AMD:slap::rotf:
Maybe it's time for me to upgrade my old 165 Opti build
I'm curious to see if more than just ACC code updates were done in the new F2B bios for the UD4P. More specifically, the 1T/2T command timing is broke (hardset at 1T) and Bank Swizzle is always enabled as well in F2.
I'm getting 4 cores without ACC on the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P with F3b bios. Still have sound problem. I thought turning off ACC would disable the 4th core and eliminate the scratchy sound but no. Too bad...4th core is strong.
Back to testing.
If you pull power from the board and hit the CLR CMOS button, then power back up. you will have 3 cores again. Atleast that is my experience.
All of a sudden was stress testing and my 4th core has gone :banana::banana::banana: wont pass stress test whatever voltage i give it!
Shut it down, disc power and let it sit for a while and cool down. I lost 2 cores on my 720 trying to crack 4.4 on air.
Was fine after I let it sit awhile. 4.4+ was easy with only one core showing in aod :D didn't bother validating or taking a pic. Apparently 1.7v ticked it off.
Yep fine now, remember the 720BE revisited thread, all the benches were shortly after I lost 2 cores. Wanted to make sure it was still up to the task for the TH competition. Funny thing is it may actually unlock, apparently the bios's I tried it on are known not to work. I will try unlocking one tommorow, have to knock some gay 4 core multithreaded submitted benches out of first place on the bot.
Its fine now changed bios to beta am sticking with 3 cores and waiting till April/May for a Quad core Black AM3 to show up!
Have got to admit the F4g is the better of the two bios out currently got mem up to 836Mhz Stable 7,7,7,20 timing with the F3b that wasnt possible!
I cant wait for the Quads to come out i do think intel will be in for a shock!
Looks like Gigabyte pulled the F2B bios from their website.
I tried it out last Friday and along with unlocking the 4th core, I got sound corruption as well. So I'm back to F2.
They didn't fix the 1T/2T timing control... it still stays at 1T regardless what it's set at in the bios. Same with bank swizzle.
Just to make it clear... this won't work on non-AC mobos like the DFI UT 790FX-M2R..?
i want to get the X3 720 with the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P or UD4Pto use also DDR3 1600 Ram . Can any cpu 720 unlocked to 4 cores? Or only the 09/04 made? It's difficult i think to find in the market this date of build. Does anyone where to find it?
^@dimi80, I got mine at Tiger and they had a row of 0904's.
So far i'm 1Hr prime stable (stopped by me) at 3.5GHZ on my 720B.E with X4 cores enabled. This is on my DS4H.
Will be getting a UD5P soon though.
This is my max OC on 4cores 3.9GHZ and 3.8 is Max benchable so far. I havent gone over 1.5V though :)

Thats very nice there. I am slowly pushing mine but I am already happy at my current speed. :-)
my question again. It works only the 09/04 ? And witch AM3 (for ddr3) board did you prefer?
I found a 09/04. will it work?
@Shoalin95--Thanks I'm glad it worked out as a Quad
@Dimi80-- Read thru this thread dude, it shows which ones might be quad. Its a roll of the dice though

@3dsag3 thanks a lot! I found one it's 09/03 build. do u think it will works?
