You can remove the upper radiator from the north and install WB instead

I am not sure about those blocks but they seem fine. I know MIPS makes a full mobo set if you want to WC everything. I am not sure on the UT version but I know the DK has the ability to remove the the heatsink on the NB and still keep the stock cooling for everything else. If the UT version can do that on the SB you should be fine.

I have been eyeballing the MIPS blocks for my DFI UT X58 but it will have to wait for now. Whatever you go with, please put in some pics:up:

MIPS makes a set for the DFI board? I just had a look on their site, but couldn't find anything for the X58 LP series, only X48 - are the blocks compatible?

I remember reading that the V.2 DFI set was compatible with the X58 board. The set I see on their website doesn't look like the same design for the mosfet coolers so it might be V.1 which won't work without modding the mounting for the mosfet. Other than the mosfet the other blocks are compatible

Does anyone have these blocks and can measure hole spacing for me? I'd love to be able to just get the MOSFET block and reuse my current EK NB/SB 5. Southbridge can be air-cooled on its own, as always.

u wouldent want to liquid cool an intel SB u will just make it hotter, the EK SB sink works way better for its thermal load. and i would suggest mcw30 ont eh NB since its the least restrictive and the NB isnt that high wattage on the x58. then the pwm is the same as every other dfi 8 phase

dont liquid the SB, the only use like 7W and will get hotter when liquid cooled, thats only need on NV chipsest and some amd but not for the intel south bridge

why do u suggest to use even active aircooling for sb?
mcw-30 is not too restrictive and might do it job a far more effective than the enzo
especially when you have all other parts watercooled, mcw-30 on sb would be very suitable :up:

some people like active i would get the passive but if u have xfire or sli and u are covering the sb then the active can be useful. the SB will get heated up by the liquid so its pointless to cool it and its more restriction that u dont need. on the intel platform the SB is a glorified basic raid controller

I don't know about the new x58, but the old x38 tr2 measures as follows.

58.7mm for sb and 61.49mm for nb.

Doing some more reading, I'm now planning to reuse my EK NB/SB 5 block and just whack it on top of the NB plate, leaving the heatpipe system in place for SB and MOSFETs. According to Eddy it should fit, given that the spacing is the same as the X48 board.

Factotum, I should point out that your links in your OP and the picture used both refer to the LP DK X58 T3EH6, not the LP UT X58 T3EH8 - the UT board has the SB heatsink linked to the NB with heatpipery and a much larger PWM heatsink. May want to fix that.

I don't have pictures of UT, but it's correct for LP UT X58 T3EH8, checked :up:

from the look of PWM heatsink..i guess PWM block(EK/Heatkiller) that you listed will not fit....it will work i presume, but the mounting will be different...

here is picture of the heatsink mounting.....right pic is the heatsink mounting...left is the pic of backside motherboard showing heatsink is mounted(i guess)...EK/Heatkiller mosfet block are created with straight mounting...thats what makes me think they dont fit..

I've now got a Swiftech MCW30 on my DFI UT X58 Northbridge. None of the installations packs worked to my satisfaction. The closest was the 'MCW30 AMD PACK'. I had to replace the two 4-40x1 1/4" screws with a couple of 4-40x1 1/2" screws. That made the spring mount setup perfect to attach the chipset to my NB.

I just read the See Removing Northbridge Cooler and now I know why removing the screws was so painful:D.

I'm guessing that where you say 'don't checked!!!' you mean 'didn't check!!!'.

I've got the Swiftech MCW30 on my NB but my PWM temp is still high under load. I was going to ask if I could remove only the PWM heatsink but from the image above I'd say the answer is yes.

Now what I need is a compatible mosfet block. I'm leaning towards giving the EK-Mosfet DFI UT Water Block - Acetal a try.

That is a picture of the DK board not the UT. To remove the PWM heatsink will require removing the entire heatpipe assembly. That is not a good idea with this board. Some will have success but others will sooner or later end up with a dead board.

where your WRM WB?

Heatpipes will do good job I think, so I may watercool PWM (and SB) trhough the NB and heatpipes. Cooling system is real advantage of X58 over X38, so why throw it out?
So those MIPS block is not needed anymore. And loop restriction is lower also.

edit: becoz cpl cover part has a few mm interference with 8-pin connector. but u may cut it if u need, so we may say that ver.1 fits here also, with a little mod.

I think I might need to put water on my NB, and it seems to me the blocks that fit the t3eh8 will fit the t3eh6, would anybody agree or has definitive knowledge?

using only one mcw30 on the nb allowed me to lower temps on nb/pwm at idle from 54/59 to 33/41 respectively

All fans set to exsaust, loop is PA120.3+Fuzion v1+MCW30+DDC10W. And as you see I have a little airflow near PWM area.
But running max bclk 180 I may get on default voltages - CPU and VTT 1.2 - I have much more higher system and chipset temps :confused:

It says 51C. I think your pwm temp is fine for your 30C ambient.

My ambient temp for that screenshot was probably somewhere around 25C. Try getting some amount of direct airflow over the PWM area if you want to lower temps further.

Is the heatspreader on the NB removable or would that mean jerking the NB die off with this heatspreader? :D
I'd hate to kill it lol... but if it can be done you can remove the PWM cooler and put a separate waterblock on it :up:

I run a quick test with cpu 200x20 vid 1.36v vtt 1.36v and got ugliest results ever

this is with 31C ambient and water temp jumped to 38C
so it's not a problem of mosfet heatpipes but my whole cooling system weak? PA120-3 and simple DDC not enough?

I'm plagued with high PWM temperatures as well. I use the same setup as above, with an MCW30 on the northbridge, but I had to put a couple of fans on the PWM heatsink to keep temps down anyway. That lowered the load temps by around 8c, but they're still pretty high. I wish it was possible to put a waterblock on the PWM area without having to kill the board! My CPU temps are high as well, and that's on a dedicated loop. I'm contemplating buying a HK 3.0 to see if that improves anything... I guess some CPU's just are hotter by nature though.

Of course you can buy a wb. I had a heat killer block on my mosfets and temps were better but I just don't see any performance benefit doing so.

Yeah but apparently it's extremely easy to kill this board by altering the PWM cooling. I read somewhere that Oscar Wu strongly adviced against taking off the stock heatsink... and I've already seen many cases of dead boards where people took off the heatsink. Something about the slave chips not making proper contact, and it's apparently very hard to get proper contact all over. There is of course always a slight risk in altering stock hardware, but it seems the risk is much higher on this board than usual. So therefore I'm not sure if it's worth trying. I also read somewhere that the PWM circuitry on this board is supposed to be ok up-to 130c. I've no idea if that holds any truth though. Sounds like alot..

Well, I have put fans on mine (2x 70mm) and it still reaches around 80c at 1.25 vcore. Without the fans it would get in the territory of 90c... and if I push more vcore temps get completely out of hand. So yeah... it is more than whining, it's a bit of a problem on my board. I live in the cold north too so ambient temp is not the source of the problem either.

I gotta agree. The whole PWM cooling on DFI boards suck. The heatpipe doesn't really do much at all. with temps of the northbrige less then 50 with a MCW30 on it, and stressing the CPU... temps of the pwm reach like 85 on my setup. and the heatsink on the PWMs certainly isn't even close to 85.. so the heat transfer from the fets to heatsink isn't good.

I'm thinking of taking the hinksink off, doing away with the thermal pads (if all the fets are planarized . Since my board has analog pwm, i think it might be less prone to blowing up like the boards that use the volterra and the tiny glasslike fets.

or i might just leave it, since it's never gonna get that high under normal conditions (only stress testing).

So I have results from 2 independent systems, using only MCW30 at NB and running i7-920 190x20@1.35v

ambient 26, nb 37, pwm 51, cpu 36, cores 48 idle
ambient 26, nb 40, pwm 74, cpu 54, cores 66 load
ambient 26, nb 38, pwm 65, cpu 51, cores 73 load + direct airblowing

My system
ambient 27, nb 37, pwm 47, cpu 36, cores 43, water 30 idle
ambient 28, nb 46, pwm 72, cpu 58, cores 76, water 38 load
ambient 28, nb 43, pwm 60, cpu 55, cores 78, water 38 load + direct airblowing

By touch, while running with system temp 72C mobo heatsinks and heatpipes are barely warm.
So I have theory that some mobos are not as others :)
Some have good heatsink contacts in PWM area and run with 50-60C system temp like Praz
But others (revision dependent, poor quality or smth) do not have good contacts and run 70-80 as with me, Factotum, jagd, Diverge etc

Correct?

Alittle update:
It seems Linpack thru the OCCCT stresses CPU a higher than Prime
So under Prime95 I got these results:
ambient 27, nb 44, pwm 67, cpu 55, cores 71, water 36 - load with no direct airflow

Spec in sig. 21x191 HT on, 1.33vcore, 1.33vtt. No pwm airflow. Prime blend.

ambient 26C, nb 38, pwm 48, cpu 38, cores 42 idle
ambient 26C, nb 42, pwm 66, cpu 50, cores 66 load

good news - SW-16 FULL compatible with MOBO :)
and simple testing:
my first setUp:
Laing 3.2 -> XSPC RX360 -> Fusion v2 -> MCW30 on stock heatsink without a direct blow of air in the area of PWM + FLAME FREEZER which attaches to I/O connector area.

I ordered mine from Germany a 1.5 year ago, in time when I had DFI X38
also I'd like to say that this block is quite restrictive, whirlpool in res becomes noticable smaller

It's a replacement top for the DD MPC multi option NB block - allows hard mount and compression fittings.

Just need to print a 1:1 version out on card and test fit before going a head next week. Not sure if the mounting holes are the same as the X58 but I believe the P35/X38/X48 had the same spacing.. so.
