Today, EVGA has announced the availability of its top model single-GPU card, the GeForce GTX 285 “For The Win” Edition. With clock speeds of a stunning 720MHz core, 1620MHz shaders, and 2772MHz of 0.8ns 512-bit GDDR3 memory, this is the fastest GeForce GTX 285 on the market and offers an effective 177.4 GB/s of total memory bandwidth.

The card, modeled 01G-P3-1288-AR, is available from EVGA’s site and many retailers and e-tailers nationwide with a suggested price of $449.

In addition, we previously reported that GTX 285 cards are based on the Nvidia G200-350-B3 chip, are operational at 1.15 volts, and are expected to reach a maximum of around 750MHz core speeds on standard cooling. Because the FTW Edition is the highest binned model in its class, we can positively say that it definitely should be able to reach, if not exceed, this suggested core speed. With the EVGA GPU voltage tuning utility being released for the GTX 285 in the coming weeks, this should prove to be an exciting task to achieve for many enthusiasts.

On another note, EVGA has announced that it is currently working on a backplate for its GTX 285s as it has done with its GTX 295s. The product not only serves an aesthetic accessory, but is claimed to offer superior heat transfer from the backside of the PCB. People are having a hard time reaching 750MHz with vanilla and SC cards. I don't think I've seen anyone reach it yet that wasn't using an SSC, but even then that was only 1 person.

Core clock isn't as important as shader clock for performance.

My SSC should get here on Wednesday or Thursday. I thought I was getting the best single GPU card. Maybe I'll just return that and get the FTW, although I hate dealing with the post office. It would be nice to see a benchmark comparison between the SSC and FTW - if there is a 10-15% FPS increase, especially on the minimum FPS, maybe the return would be worth it.

Huh ? I'm Running 713/1620/1332*2 The day I bought them [ 2 days ago ] and they are being tortued in Folding without tirning them off so 48 Hours of straight good ol' foldin' and 0 problems even the temps with new side P12's in HAF went from 84 to 81.

So most of these vanilla and sc cards dont run faster than my 280 which will run 725/1512/1295 and they're not any faster clock for clock?

nope there is no IPC improvements in the 55nm chip. it's just a dumb shrink. so at same clocks GTX 285 and GTX 280 are performing same.

My EVGA GTX285 will do 756 on the core but only if i leave the shaders at 1599. Anything above 1600 makes the card unstable.

That is basically the same core clock as the BFG GTX 285 OCX had before they changed it at the last minute. Supposedly the binning process would have left them with hardly any stable chips so they backed down the clocks to 702Mhz.

As the highest clocked single-GPU card, this really is Nvidia's cream of the crop card. The "Nvidia GPU" as we know it, has evolved over 16 years into this masterpiece. GT212 and GT300 are next. ;)

Gee.. extra 100$ is enough to buy an additional 9800GT for physx.

720 from the factory is kinda nutz.

i bet that why eVGA is charging so much for it. man though - you KNOW you have the highest binned chip when you buy one of those.

i wonder if you would be able to get any higher shader clock out of one of these Vs. an SSC.

my SSC will run 1692 shader COD stable - any higher and i'll get random lock-ups.

check the special voltage in nibitor, I had 2 dud clocker 260s maxed 734/1512 max and 1 that did 774/1548 and the duds special voltage was 1.06v stock and the great clocker was 1.12v. Flashed the other 2 to 1.12 and now they all run 783/1568 in triple sli :up:

Nope. And it locks up from time to time @ stock. I blame the slit on the package from the box cutter when they stocked it. I saw it, knew it was an omen, but ignored it anyway.

If they come out with a watercooled version of this card, they need to call it the EVGA GTX285 Complete Ownage Edition. Man, I'm not EVEN kidding. These cards rock man. They're awesome.

Just got my card, currently running ATI tool on it 730/1663 seems no issue for this vanilla card, at 740 GPU clock I get artifacts... maybe the voltage tuner can release some more there...

Sad thing is I can't run no benchmarks on it, not even at stock... need to figure out if it's due to the UD5 board or XP64 ( was running fine with the GTX 280 ) or is it a combo of all 3 lol...

We managed to score a picture of the water block that will cool down the upcoming EVGA GTX 285 HC.

The Hydro Copper water block is a bit different than on the EVGA GTX 280 HC card that we've had a chance to test, as it is a bit longer. This is understandable as Nvidia changed a lot on the design of its GTX 285, and partners had to design the water block from scratch.

We still don't know the specifications of this card, but we expect a massive factory overclock as these water blocks can keep the temperature at bay even with higher clocks.

and indeed it did , it locks on me in the forest test... once EVGA gets their voltage control tool out I'll try to hunt for more...

In canada at the vendors ive looked at the 295 is only like 40 dollars more I dont see the point in getting a 285 FTW but thats just me

it needs a little more vcore just like evgas ssc/ftw which are overvolted

a 47k resistor (~1.25v) will take your 285 ~750core/~1700shader/~1500mem stable :up:

once the core/shader gets more voltage your mem goes higher

You may want to try this software VGPU mod while waiting for the EVGA software. :up:

Im alright with 702-core & 1598-shader and stock mem. :)

i was kinda hoping to see some 800s from the 285 series... not worth the upgrade from a 280.

800 requires 1.3v unfortunately thats where ovp dicks around courtesy of nvidia :up:

they just dont want it faster :shrug:

zotac amp runs 800core stable (1600shader/1300mem) @ default voltages

I have to run it at 90% to play crysis for more than 15min clocked at 753/1675/1507 core,shader,mem.

I'm getting a full cover water block for it as soon as they hit the stores.

I also have an EK waterblock on order :D

ssc is factory overvolted.. my ssc default voltages: ~1.23vcore/~2.13vmem

I have three EVGA GTX 285 SSC's.

My max OC in tri-sli is 750 / 1700 / 1420.

I don't understand why some cards aren't overclocking higher than others. I think these are over*clock* protected somehow.

I can't really do anything more than stock or my games crash.

I managed to squeeze out some FM benches at 756/1548/1296 but have not been able to reproduce that.

Even at SC speeds I get a hard lock in Windows with this card while playing L4D or Warhead. I'm going to be putting the card under water so hopefully that will help as well as the voltage tuning. We'll see...

Yea something isn't right. It's more than OVP some cards would be clocking higher than others just like some cpu's. I go from completely stable at 750 to not at all at 751, on all three cards.

Nothing is that accurate.

Well, I took back my EVGA to Fry's for a BFG. Guess what? It's artifacting at the default OC speeds of 666, but stable @ 648. Go figure. :( I'm going back again tonight for one last chance. Wish me luck. :up:

my verdict on "ssc" "ftw" "etc"

they take random vanilla 285s overvolt them and bam you got yourself an ssc/ftw 285

besides my ssc can do higher mem than the ftw

every single 285 out there: just as with anything else.. a roll of the dice when it comes to overclocking

there is no binning.. if there is than i must be binning my poop aswell
