I have been a big fan of the MX-500 and 518 mouses. I just like the fit and feel of the G5.
mx-518 will be in my right hand as long as mine works and they still make it
Lachesis, used to own a MX-518 and i upgraded to the lachesis and I have not looked back since.
I have the MX-518 and it's a fantastic gaming mouse..
Thinking about buying the G9 though..
I have the G5 and I find it a great mouse, I love the weights, and it fits my small hand.
I have the G5 for 3-4 years of unlimited gaming and still feels like new.
Excellent build quality
I have the Microsoft Sidewinder and I love it. Many people do not since it is a bigger sized mouse but it fits my hand how I like it to feel. Plus I think it looks good.
The poll won't really be legitimate unless the person voting has actually tried them all and derived a preference. Just voting for what you use doesn't give accurate data for the "best gaming mouse".
mx1000 ; still have not upgraded my mouse , mainly because i have not found anything better
I voted for the DeathAdder. It's the best gaming mouse I've used. The MX518 is a close second.
Build quality of the MX is >> Deathadder. The latter feels a bit fragile to me.
deathadder - it does get a little warm, but thats the only issue I ever had.
good ol reliable mx-518
Ye olde G5.
I got the MX518, G5, G7, Razer Diamondback.
Mx518 = Perfect, could have more buttons on the side....
G5 = All the good points of mx518 but The weights are a gadget, scroll wheel is not low profile so it sucks if you used application like 3dsmax where you have to press scroll wheel (middle click) alot. I dont like the material used for the cord. The material on the mouse is too porous, like anti-slip material, i dont like that.
G7 = Same as G5 But wireless and loses its battery after 6-7 hours.. worst buy
Razer Diamondback = Really like the feeling of the mouse but, site buttons are really hard to get to and cannot be mapped for "next and back" in IE and Firefox, Middle button too hard to use.
I voted for MX518
My gaming mouse is a G7
I dont game 24/7 so having a wireless mouse was a must for me, even though the G7 is not considered for gaming, I use it for that too and works great.
My mouse of choice is the MX518 because thats the current one im using. Used it for a lot of FPS and never gave me a disadvantage. My old mouse which still works perfectly is the MX510 which I would still be using if the MX518 wasn't on sale lol, mousepad im using is the RatPadz XT which is really nice on the MX518s. I don't have much experience with the other mouses since I don't own them but I don't see how I could get anymore accurate with a different mouse.
Only "game grade" mouse I've used so far is the Deathadder, and I love it. It does have one issue in web browsers where middle-clicking it will seem to randomly make it scroll down or up and any middle-clicks after that will make it scroll up and down again. The fix is to move the scroll wheel up or down to sort of clear the "buffer" and then it will go back to normal. Otherwise it's awesome.
I've used (short time) most of them on various customer's systems. The first time I used a DA I was "wow, gaming mice aren't just hype!" I choose the G5 for its ergonomics -- it's 'grippy' & fits. The sensor guts feel the same to me as the DA, so it just came down to price & feel.
mx500 bodied mouses have always been the best for my hand... they have never done be wrong in CAL and Cevo :)
only other mouse id like to see come out is somthing that has the shape and feel of the old 3 button ball logitech and has the sensitivity of a ikari or lachesis
g5 gets my vote...
Deathadder, don't really like the feel of the MX518, but I could get used to it. The deathadder forms and fits to my hand well. :)
A4Tech X-750F(Black)
G7. Wireless is superb, absolutely no noticeable input lag compared to G5, and the shape fits my hand perfectly. My only complaints are that it would be nice if it was just a little longer (long fingers hang off the edge), and needs moar button.
I am gonna be one of those who haven't tried or used the majority of the mice on that list and voted the one I own. I have played around a tiny bit with the DA and just didn't like it. I do love the G5 though, its always been my trusty sidekick and hasn't let me down. The way it fills the palm of my hand and how my fingers just naturally fall on it just make it too much win for me to even desire to contemplate other mice. :)
such low votes for ikari, when in fact they have recently COMPLETELY killed auto correction, thats right, done and done.
MXs too small for my hand, diamondback good performance but uncomfortable. Anyone like the Death Adder for big hands?
DA is better for big hands, which I don't have, but its still good to me.
Use Copperhead more than one year. Love it. I tried Lachesis before but I hate it tracking. Probably I got a bad one because the tracking is off if I raise it from the pad even 1mm. -.-´ Other than that it a good mouse.
What makes a mouse a "gaming mouse"?
Shiny leds? Fancy name?
The hardware doesn't matter, that's for sure.
Voted for MX518, i have got it all way when it got released.
Working like a dream whit my ol'good Steelpad 4D :)
I have the X-750BF.......fantastic mouse.
600-2500dpi switch, variable coloured wheel, triple fire mouse button (aswell as normal left/right functions and only £18.99 :)
It puts the logitech G series to shame in MICE JUDGE - download and try your own mouse - http://www.x7.cn/en/micejudge.asp
A4TECH - http://www.x7.cn/en/index.asp
I voted for the MX518, like everything about it.
PS: i have not used any other high-end gaming mouse.
I like the MX-518 a lot and I've also got a DeathAdder but it doesn't fit well for my hand at all.
Anyways I recently bought another MX-518 and unlike the older sample this new one had different kind of pads beneath, huge glides instead of the standard small teflon pads. Now these glides don't work very well with my Razer Mantis Speed mousepad as I game a lot and the cloth (fibertek material) pad gets sometimes a bit sweaty and these glides and sweat makes the friction a bit higher than I'm used to with the old MX-518 while it works fine as the cloth is dry (I'd say even slightly less friction than with the small teflon pads). Now I wonder if it's possible to get the MX-518 with the old smaller pads still and how to know which is which before ordering? AFAIK the older MX-518 I had was named as "Gaming-Grade" while this new one is only named "MX-518" and nothing more.
Perhaps I should just try to pick off the old pads from the MX-518 with a lose cable connection and stick them ontop of the glides on the new one.
MX revolution.
I'e actually tried quite a few of these:
Logitech G5 / G9 - Nice mice but I wouldn't recommend them. Logitech's laser mice just aren't as accurate as their mx518. They may be just the thing for high sensitivity gamers or people using LCD displays, but I find that they skip around a bit.
mx518 - Maybe the best gaming mouse I've used to date. Plenty of buttons and nearly all in the right spot. Very accurate, but due to the way it fits my hand I find the logitech wingman style mice to be quicker moving left and more accurate moving to the right. A little odd and hardly noticeable but it works great and makes a lot of use out of a single sensitivity setting. Played it till it feel apart (3+ years).
Deathadder - Dead accurate, dead simple. Very neutral mouse for my hand and a tad more accurate than the mx518. The scroll wheel is great and buttons feel nicer too but I could really go for two more. Best FPS mouse for me. The drivers are nice but are freaken picky and the bottom of the mouse is slightly swollen too - best to use a cloth moue pad with this one.
Coppehead - Suppose to be a left or right hander but I hated this mouse. It just didn't fit right in either hand and not being able to use all the side button bug the crap out of me. Main reason I didn't buy a Razor Lachesis.
Lachesis - could be great I don't know though - I use a mx310 for when I go lefty, the Razor symmetrical mice just don't do it for me.
Steelseries Ikari - The optical looks promising, added to cart. Believe it or not I actually need a mouse, people keep taken mine! - will edit after I get it -
Intellimouse - good feel but never like the no click scroll.
I have a couple of Logitech wireless Laser mouse as well (not G7) but these things are worthless. I'd toss em but they don't even fly straight.
I'd vote 518 but I'll wait for the Ikari, btw there is a good but slightly dated read on ESR.
DeathAdder + QcK
Had an old IntelliMouse (pre v3) and liked the feel. When I became a low sens user it couldn't keep up so I upgraded to an MX500.
I was a Logitech user from MX500->510->518. The Logitech MX mice all have this annoying high pitched squeal which prompted me to find a replacement.
Considered the Habu but the sensor sucked.. then lucky me the DeathAdder came out!
I love my Sidewinder, but I might hve to pick up a Steelseries Ikari one of these days. Looks like a great mouse.
A4Tech X-718F.
600 - 2000DPI on-the-fly-switch, but via software 200 - 2000DPI, 3-fire button, two side buttons, nice desing and the biggest '+' - the mouse is pretty cheap. Too bad thou that the surface ir glossy - the hand slips when you game intensive.
Love my G9. Logitech really stands behind there warrenty too.
I own the Lachesis, so it is the greatest mouse of all time. It has pretty blue lit thingies and moves the arrow on the screen as fast as I want!
I've used the Copperhead, Deathadder, Lachesis, G5, G9 and Microsoft Habu. For me, I need to be able to grip the left side with my thumb and right side with my pinkie or both right fingers. Overall, I found that the G9 worked best for me. The G5 and Habu made my pinkie feel like it wanted to slip. The Lachesis is a very good mouse, but ambidextrous mice feel weird. The one thing I really do like about the Lachesis is the laser in it. It has a really short tracking distance, so when you lift the mice off the surface you aren't looking all over the place. Important for higher sensitivity players.
The best thing you can do is find out what works best for you. The thing that sucks about that is it's hard to actually use them before you buy. Some places that display them have them out of the box, but not hooked up to a computer so you can't really try it.
Bought a Logi G5 today to replace a MX518 on this rig, have a MX Revolution too, just come off playing Stalker with the G5 and love it, nice texture on the sides to grip, very responsive, it gets my vote.
G5 w/ Dual side buttons
I'm gonna throw the Microsoft Sidewinder in there.
I hated it when I first tried it, but now i got two of em.
Mx-518 1600 dpi version right here:up:,going to get the 1800 dpi version soon.:yepp:
Got a steelseries ikari last week and love it. I also got another one for x-mas, unopened I may sell it. I guess its all about preferences, but this is the best one I have owned. I have had every logitech gaming mouse ever made, and the quality of the ikari is as good or better.
love my lachesis.
but i suppose with any of the high end mice, give it time and it will eventually feel like an extension of your hand.
*** Dual post ***
Ah, seems like i have the best gaming mouse ever ha? I got the old MX518 1800 DPI 5 rubberfeet one hehe...
The G9 is the best Logitech. I hate Razers.
I *MIGHT* get a Cordless Sidewinder if this G9 fails next year, and if I get a boatload of cash.
If you are looking for a true gaming grade mouse, then there is only one...a Razer. Choose your DPI. Once you get up to about 2000 it really doesn't matter. Once you get up that high go on looks and feel and wehter you are left or right handed. I also chose based on looks. Alot of the Razers have 2000 dpi sensors, but I didn't like the look. I love my Copperhead becasue it is exactly like I want it, and if I were to build one it would be just like it.
Razers are not cheap, and that shows in the poll. What you are seeing is a poll based on price, but you have to remember that you get what you pay for. My Razer has a gold connector. Even rthe cable is designed for gaming. The sensor is not just about dpi. If you go onto Razer's site you will find out that alot of companies leave out specs...specs that Razer shows. It's becasue those companies have not been able to measure up to those specs.
There is a reason winner's, and pro's choose Razers. They can be put into the category this thread was supposed to be about...the "best". After owning numerous Logitech mice, and moving up to the Razer's, I can tell you without a doubt that I will not be going back.
no T, the reason winners and pro's choose razer is that they get payed a lot of money to say that....
the real pros are good enough with their hand eye coordination it doesnt matter what mouse they use anyway. I have use 5 different models of razer mice and all I can tell you is that they bring frustration with their inconsistency and glitchy drivers
Logitech G9 and prior was a Razer Diamondback Plasma LE.
you dont seem to understand, Razer pays them MORE money than anyone in their right mind is willing to. There is no legitimate link to razer's quality and the pro's using their mice.
I know quite a few lan players and cal-I CS players who are sponsored by them and they all tell me this exact same story.
If you are having issues with drivers ona Razer mouse. Check to make sure your driver version wortks with your firmware versuion. If that's OK, reset the mouse (instructions on the Razer site) clear out the firmware, reflash, and reload a clean copy of the drivers. A bad download, or a bad flash can really bork one up. It's scary, but you can reset and reflash. It is safe as long as you follow their directions.
no thats not the issue. their drivers dont work very well in windows its not an issue of not working with the mouse.
and if you really wanna talk firmware lets talk about how the deathadder could read your mousepad up to an inch away from the surface up until about a few months ago. the mouse has been out for over a year now.
I've been sponsored in all kinds of hobby's. That argument doesn't fly man. I have turned down companies before that would've paid me airfare for flying before becasue i didn;t wanna go through the hassle of using their products and suffering losses when I was flying aerobatic competitions. People use that BS argument all the time to diss quality products. It's BS...that's all it is. A pro is gonna use the best...period. If you think they are gonna risk a loss with substandard hardware think again. I have turned down golden deals before becasue an engine maker was nothing but trouble, and I watched as other pilots sat on the ground watching becasue they had broken cranks, mixture troubles, and everything else.
It's the same thing with any hobby. People who are sponsored choose VERY carefully. They're name is on the line. They don't "Get paid to say stuff". I have *never* been paid to say stuff. In fact it was just the opposite. If I was ever caught making BS up just to sell stuff I would've been kicked out ina heartbeat. Companies that are on top don't make up BS...they don't need to.
you also clearly have another backbone career to support you other than being sponsored for what you do. don't think I am lying, I talk to the people who are sponsored I have a first-hand account of the facts
90% of pro gamers only play games, they have no other way to make money. they therefore take whoever offers them the most $$$. as I said, a truly good pro gamer doesnt need more than 800dpi to get the mouse to do exactly what his hand wants it to. All mouse "technology advancements" are e-peen showoff changes and none of it really matters at all.
point and case: most gamers who aren't sponsored by a mouse company use microsoft intellimouse over any other.
Really? I'm not sponsored. I guess I've been hallucinating and using an Intellimouse all this time.
Fact: There are a ton of unsponsored people here using Razers and none of them are "Paid to say that", including me.
Edited to add: You do realize there are laws against false advertising don't you?
ok I'll try this one more time using the example of professional athletics.
a pro football player is extremely good at football even if he's just wearing walmart brand equipment. He also has no other job than to play sports.
thus pro athletes give their advertising contracts to the company who is going to pay them the MOST money. The athlete doesn't care because it doesn't matter to him what he wears.
----
flash to professional gamers, in the same situation as the athlete described above.
he doesn't care what he uses for gaming equipment as long as when his hand moves right the cursor moves right etc.
razer pays them more money than any other company to say "hey use razer, its the best and I use it!!!" considering the reasoning in the advertising is completely subjective there is no false advertising law that can get razer for doing this, life goes on.
now onto all the people on these boards that say razer is great. their reasoning is completely subjective as well. not to mention that people who say "OMG razer is teh best because the pros use their mice!" have clearly fallen prey to their marketing techniques and also enjoy the added placebo effect with their daily gaming.
All my friends have had problems with theirs razor mouses, including me. We have to buy it ourselves and to pay for it, it is so unfortunate that they produce such a low quality products. i dont understand really why 4000dpi is needed cus i am most at 800 and often i go as low as 200.
DPI is not meant as a sensitivity adjustment. What you should be doing is setting your DPI up all the way and adjusting your sensitivity from there.
Also, I've owned three Razer mice and only had one problem, which was fixed by a firmware update.
sidewinder all the way
Precisely. Even better is to crank it up to the max, get used to it for awhile, and then dial the sensitivity back down a hair to nail precision. Then play with acceleration a bit.
I found the statement about "low quality" hilarious! There is not a higher quality periferal on the market. The sensors are the highest precision available. The cable is the lightest I have ever seen on a mouse. It's like using a wireless mouse. It never interfere's. The connectors on them are Gold...you can't get nay higher quality than gold. That's as good as it gets.
The firmware can be reflashed, most of the Razer mice have their own onboard memory, and profiles can be loaded into the mouse...not just onto a computer so it can be used with any computer...even ones that don't have the Razer Software on them.
By holding the button on the bottom down and replugging you can erase the frimware in case of a bad flash, reflash, and be right back up an running. They are built for precision.
Like I said before, look at the specs. Pay particular attention to the specs other companies leave out. They conviently leave those out for a reason...becasue they cannot match them. The specs don't lie. Razers have been tested, and review sites agree. There is not a better performing gaming grade mouse on the market.
I'll go dig up some of that info tomorrow. It's not all about DPI. There is alot more to it than that. It's about the precision of the sensor.
I don't really see what so much better in lachesis than in mx518. The mx 518 works great without any quarks but my lachesis somedays didnt want to work across the entire monitor. Felt like it was stuck in a box until i repluged it, the precision was not good either at all cus it felt like i was painting in mspaint where the line was very blocky/pixelated.
Sometimes the scroll button stoped working in win. Of course i flashed it to the latest firmware at the time to 1.6 and one time i found that it had reflashed itself to 1.8 without me doing anything at all. I couldnt even find that version on razors site, but it worked great as it should from then but it still didn't feel smooth at all in movements.
How could you say that it is a top notch product when even my pals have similar problems. and let not forget that the mouse pointer sometimes wandered of on it own to the left sometimes. maybe if the quality checks were better i could say that it is a top product.
I'd like to try the Deathadder. The best game mouse I've ever used is the MX510, but it hit the floor one day and died. My current G5 is good but I miss the 510 so I voted "Other".
I've tried most of the mice on that list. The mx518 felt the best and I've stuck with it for awhile now.
The Logitech, MXZ 798 Vision that has not been officially released yet.
looooved my G5. Got rid of it with my desktop when i sold it. Got a free copperhead with my new asus laptop though, its ok. I miss the G5.
I always argue with my roommate about my G5 having been better than the 4000 :banana::banana::banana:ing razers hes owned. My roomy is a retarded Razer fanboy that believes all of razers markting hypes, and buys every new "refresh" of a stupid :banana::banana::banana:ing gimicky product that they make.
^ lol
Logitech trackball $10 on sale FTW...............because the finger is far more accurate than the entire hand ;)
Using a Microsofet HABU.
Logitech G7. Well, that, and a Ratpadz XT. :D
I didn't buy my mouse based on some subjective performance characteristic as I haven't seen an actual benchmark with which to test against. I bought it based entirely on feel. I spent around an hour in a best buy with the various mice on display (around 7 or so) and the one I felt fit my hand the best was the Logitech G9. I tried not to look at the mouse before I put my hand on it and just kinda blindly tried to find it and then move it around. I'm not a professional gamer, nor would I even call myself an amateur gamer. I only play games nowadays out of boredom and to pass some time.
All I know is, the G9 doesn't stutter or have significant lag in windows like a lot of the $10-20 cheap ass optical/laser sensor mice that I've run into while using Army computers. I did not install Logitech's mouse software that came with it so I don't know if it's actually useful. It's probably a waste of time and additional, unnecessary cost to an already fairly expensive mouse.
If the mouse doesn't stutter/lag on you and it feels good in your hand, but you want a so called better gaming mouse cause you lost or something to another gamer with a more expensive mouse even though yours is close to $100... You probably have some issues.
Voted for my Microsoft Habu  best mouse for my hand. Just wish the lift off distance was less.
Edit: Well maybe I should have voted for the Intellimouse, because they are pretty much the same shape.
Voted for Microsoft Sidewinder here! Fantastic mouse for gaming and suits my hand curves!
A4tech XL-750BF
best ever
I've tried quite a few, including the A4Tech mentioned above, and so far my favorite is the Logitech G5 v2. Combine it with a fUnc 1030 Archetype and you're in smooth glide city.
mx500
i got one with the polling rate set at 1000
massive improvement over my previous g7 mouse
microsoft habu: old school updated
I voted for the Mx518. Ive owned mine for 4 years now and have had no issues , even dropped it a couple of times. It has all of the buttons i could want and it works great on games for me.
Logitech Mini
Logitech mx518 here :). Kinda cool seeing its still the most liked one :p. Some of the older microsoft ones are also quite well thought of..
I gotta get some teflon legs for my mx518 at last tho..
I would have voted for the 518 but after the right click button gave up on me I sadly retired the mouse. I tried using it for a long time with a broken right click haha, I would have to press the button at least 10 times for it to work haha. Since the breaking of my 518 I voted for the Deathadder which I am currently using at the moment.
Razo Diamond Back 3G
G5 with the 2nd side button :)
