some first AMD Deneb teasers on Foxconn A79A-S 790FX

Hi,

maybe it is good to start my own "teaser collection" on my good old Foxconn A79(A)-S and P05 Bios as I just passed 32m 210 HTT 3.9 gig on air.

3.3 gig undervoltet and running wprime1024 (it passed but so you can see load temps)

Wprime1024 with only +0.1V on 3.8gig quickly - time is not too bad I can tell you :)

4 gig 32m without ACC and some voltage. So far I remark a good scaling.

Hmm SoF, is 4Ghz @ 1.44V using ACC?

no all results are without ACC as it is not working yet (will not boot as soon as enabled in any way) hope a new bios will fix that ;)

4ghz amd, not everyday you see that.

finally I can raise HTT a bit up to 235 :D seems to gain some more performance from that specially in Pi.

Thanks to SoF now we know that Phenom II @4GHz will do SuperPi 1M in less than 1 minute :p:.
Also we can certainly say that SuperPi 32M can be calculated in less than 1 hour on above mentioned CPU :eek:!!

Any possibility that 790GX is gonna be better for HTT overclocking, than the 790FX cause of the smaller process?

And to any body's who's actually sat down and overclocked one of these, does the HTT work in a similar fashion as the X2's and Opty's, or is it similar to Phenom 1 where you can't do much in the way of HTT?

SoF, can you please (if you have time) try to OC with HT only? It would be interesting how far you reach, I was planning on getting the locked 920...

so far it maxes out ~240 htt. primed yesterday shortly (~30min) 3.6gig with 1.4V fine.

e-mail support and ask if there going to support the Phenom 2 940 cpu and they can not even tell me a yes or no answer .

My 790GX MA790GP-DS4H would max at 240 on my 9950, The M3A79-T Asus will go well above that..So maybe the locked chips still look promosing on the right bios/board..

Pretty awesome regarding temps. What cooling was this on though? I mean... air cooling can still be anything:p:

Without ACC 4Ghz, very nice. Maybe PhII indeed doesnt benefit from ACC but looks like we'll have to wait a bit more to be sure.

You are hinting at the increase in speed per clock that HTT overclocking is giving you ? :D
When you increase HTT and leave northbridge multi at a fixed value,you increase NB/L3 clock speed and decrease the latency of a very large and already very effective L3 cache significantly .This is the source of the better results with higher HTT.NB clocks could be a not so secret "secret" weapon :p: .If it can net even 5% over default,it will be awesome,but i guess it can be even better since this time it should even scale better than Agena in that respect.

4.0ghz, 2.4 ghz and 2.0ghz htt that's really good.

Does the htt have much of an increase on performance as you compare from like 2.0ghz vs. 2.4ghz or 2.6ghz?

yes you will note a gain of half a second between 1800 and 2400 at the same clock in 1m I would say.

That's my point...It can be better....but that is a better score then current Phenoms even with those bad timings and low HT / NB ....

What do you mean exactly? never had something like a keyboard boot issue? but using ps2 only :p:

Thats what I am using. The problem is, When the PC restarts or somtimes when I cold boot the keyboard wont go on. So I will have to restart to get the keyboard to work. Its like it doesn't pick the keyboard up or somthing.

nahhh, sure that's not what I wanted to do this WE but I am on business trips over and over in december and could not even make it once to my DICE dealer during the last 5 weeks (think he badly misses me :D ) - but wednesday I promise I'll get some cold and start real kickin' what everbody want's to see :) Hopefully my DICE dealer is not yet in christmas holidays, I don't think so but you never know...

LC Nab you have to consider the fact we've seen 4.0 and 4.2 floating around on AIR. Water tends to add a couple hundred more mhz.

try set ht link to 5x or below see if it clock any higher on that dice

im thinkin 3.6-4.0 on air, 4.1-4.5 on water, 4.6+ dice etc

the V's he used on 4.7ghz seems like they could be reasonable under good water from what weve seen on pI and what weve been hearing about temps on pII

Mmm maybe on the new dragon setups watercooling the NB and SB could be a must if you plan to OC the heck out of the deneb . Or i could be wrong but still I would wc them both just in case :D

I'm just wondering about the temp's, isn't there supposed to be a coldbug @ ~ -70°C without ht 1.0? You seem to be somewhat lower if I'm not mistaken.

as far as I know you don't need ACC for better oc anymore. I have a friend doing a bit better than me on Destroyer - 300 HTT :eek: ACC is off all the time. thanks for the hint tictac.

Phenom II is rather special in this aspect.

It likes cold but it doesn't really like voltages (you need some to push, but cold, not voltages, will get you clocks)


So Phase and TEC+WC will yield really nice results, Phase on 5++? :D

1.344 volt stock at 3.0ghz and runs what like 28C idle ?

at 1.35 volts I'll idle at like 41-43C on 9850.

air stable was ~3.6-3.8 not tested too much. but I just made some really good experiences with wprime :eek: no Q6600 in hwbot can beat Phenom II...5ghz+ 9650 is needed to beat 4580 deneb :D

This is of course if mainstream chips OC this well. Other than the early first batch.

im curious how high you can go on stock voltages to get to Windows desktop? 3.4-3.5ghz?? its usually safe to say 400-500mhz on stock voltages then from there you start raising voltages as you raise clocks...

If you look back,AMD's chip only clock better with time ,not worse.This is a general rule that also applies to intel.
AMD uses CTI(continuous transistor improvement) program and it worked great in the past.Look how well RevF clocked over time,then the B3 fixed stepping that now can reach even 3.4/3.5Ghz on QC/Tri/Duals etc.
If AMD continues with its CTI program,C3(AM3 Denebs) will be even better in OC/thermal regard.The sort of confirmation for this is the 95W max TDP rating of the 925(2.8Ghz) version of Phenom II.The 920,an AM2+ version,is rated 125W @ 2.8Ghz.

I think I did wprime1024m at 3.3 with 1.32V (undervolted) - 3.4 - 3.5 seems reasonable.

:D on vista intel and amd 45nm quads are close together with slight advantage for amd in performance per clock I would say. was real good to see yesterday and tomorrow I maybe have the possibility to test with a cascade :)

I have to correct my little bit too enthusiastic "5ghz+ 9650 is needed to beat 4580 deneb " - while I was comparing some days ago I did not notice all the XP scores on hwbot. With both, deneb and QX9650 under vista the advantage of the deneb will not be that huge anymore but still there is some for AMD in wprime I would say. I just returned back from my first little ln2 experience and gonna write a bit about it within the next hour...

Any news regarding you problems with 5x multi for HyperTransport?Can you verify cold bug issues are there unless you go to HyperTransport 1.0 mode?
