Finally we should make this the official thread, Gar have you checked out the new bios? I am thinking there are some quirky little things with F3 that need to be rectified for sure....
Umm the bios is in German or Netherlands or at least the extractor is what's up with that??
Does this board support SLI?
ok so i passed a couple of hours of prime at 3.8ghz, 19x200qpi, but when i shut down and boot up, the bios resets itself, anyone else have this problem??? And i am not liking the long time it takes for the board to boot. I guess i will get used to it, hopefully future bios's will help the issue, since this board does seem to be the most popular because of all the features, 10 sata ports, 3way sli/crossfire.
My bios doesn't actually reset but it is retarded I am working on 4.0Ghz at 211Bclk X 19 Multi but when I restart from windows no problem but if I shut the system down and then start it up again it does this weird thing where it starts for a second then shuts down, then starts again and then it will try and post then repost another time and finally I get a beep and away we go but all my settings seem to stay and work fine.. It definitely needs some improvement..... I don't think your bios resets just let it roll and it will boot just all quirky like.. The thing that sucks is that it doesn't do that crap at stock...
For me it only resets when something is not stable. For some od reason though if I overclock to much it restarts after failing a boot and then it turns off and stay off, and a yellow light comes on by the memory. I have to unplug the psu and wait till it shuts down and then I can restart the pc.
Just ordered my Extreme 10 min ago, along with the 3x1 Patriot 1600's and an 920. Should make for some fun.
That's what is in my EX58 setup. The blue Patriot 3x1GB 1600 Ram and a 920.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...light=gigabyte
ya I am on f3 bios, I have a 965 cpu and the extreme mobo..
Another things its done this with every setup I have had. If I try to restart my system right after shut down I get a yellow light. 790i ultra, 790i ftw digital and now this mobo. I think its the psu, it works fine otherwise....
Hey Gar do you have 4.0Ghz Stable yet? I think I just got it I will post my settings in a few on all the different threads but I just hit 2 hours Prime Stable at 211 Bclk X 19 Multi. This board is running like a champ and the best part is I left everything on auto this round and it has been flawless...
Thats great news guacomole, look forward to seeing your settings then testing them myself.
I posted a pic in the other forum but I think i now have the elusive rock solid 4.0Ghz 920 OC her is a pic of 2 hours prime stable:
Attachment 89739
Everything on auto
Vcore=1.4125 in bios
VDram=1.68 in bios
Loadline enabled
Ram 9-8-8-24
All CPU stuff off except multi thread.....
that temp is right? wich cooler? is normal for Ci7 to have high temps like that?
Nice over anyway.
No go but I am priming so when I finish here I will try updating windows and re-installing but it keeps saying windows sockets failed to intialize...
I think my copy of windows is bad I am going to reinstall windows when I am done....
Update I reinstalled windows but I think I got a bad board here something is wrong with this thing, I can't install Easy Tune 6 it just tells me the Intel sockets fail to intialize I am not sure are you on F3 and can you install Easy Tune? Is anyone else having this problem?? The dynamic energy saver will not owrk either.. I don't get it..
Hi
which bios version are people using
i have stoped @ 190 x 20 which seems to be the sweet spot for temps & volts for now
it would lock up on the first screen @ 200 x 20
will work @ 211 x 19 but need much higher volts
still waiting for fuzion v1 1366 bracket
i am wondering if its worth changing to a Ek Supreme or swifteck gtz with the 1366 bracket
I got same problem with easytune not starting, it return immediatly a app crash , tried 4 OS installs with even 2 diffrerent vista x64 version(one integrated october and one old sp1 release).
Drivers also no matter installed them in multiple combinations or with just chipset driver and easytune after without no other driver.
Must be a hardware combination giving the prob for sure.
I got an ati 4870 , 12 GB ram corsair and a Vraptor.
Even the advance powersave software no start it return at start version of software no updated download a new one from gigabyte site, this with bios F2-F3 -F4D -F4E.
Installing water on the weekend for test some 4ghz+
I am on a ga-x58-extreme, confirming the windows initialization failed error
Using ud5 with bios f4e.
stockcooling as far.
Hopefully get my waterblock today.
Then it be pushing towards 4ghz.
slow boot isnt anoying since I rarely boot more than once a day.
Bios settings for 4ghz would be good to have ready.
Update:
Waterblock arrived.
Testing 3.8ghz turbo enabled (4ghz in effect).
super pi 32m currently running.
Skip the F4E, fudge reported after today testing it got bugs on the multipler, others reported problems on voltages too.
If got UD5 try the f4F, it's one supposed with a fix on uncore
http://www.jzelectronic.de/jz2/Bios/ex58ud5f4f.exe
No worry if is not in english the decompressor, chose a folder and press first button up top for decompress it, the bios is normal one in english
Thread where find latest gigabyte bioses , http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...st-bios-28441/
difference between UD5 and the extreme only has better cooling right? the bios are interchangeable?
Should be good to go tomorrow night with fuzion v2 zipped on
gonna try the f4f bios.
I can run 4.1ghz atm with 205x20 and turbo enabled [f3].
Not sure about components, they are designed to handle a lot, server contexts is seldom as nice as a desktop user use.
Seems I got some bios issues, I am running F3 bios even when I earlier have flashed f4e?
humph.
ah well, re-boot inc :)
edit: found the bad guy, seems the board re-wrote my bios when my USB key had windows 98 and the save didnt made the right boot order.
Removing the usb key when boot up helped ;)
Running f4f atm :D
No bios are different , ud5 dont have esata ports, i got extreme one so i am stuck to the buggy f4e :(
Board has some nice features, hope we get a good solid bios.
f4f, running 4.1ghz without any issue, 1.392 with vdrop, 1.41vcore bios, cpu-z 1.408.
saw a increase in vcore dramtically from 4ghz to 4.1ghz.
play bf2 for a few hours and primed for 15min.
turbo enabled.
ok so which one is the best bios or latest for the gigabyte extreme version? I have f3 right now.
Hi
yep , easytune dont work with Vista 64 bit !!!
personally i think F3 is the best so far ! (for both Extreme & UD5)
Btw: the mobo only reset settings when the system is NOT stable !!!
ABout the long time it takes for the board to boot thats normal !
1.41v Bios = 1.392v FULL LOAD ????
regards
Is there any reason to get the Extreme version over the UD5 for an aircooled system w/ an i7 920?
nice going fellas
i've been testing my UD5 with a couple of bios files F2 and F4E
i primed at 4GHz/4.1/4.2 all shortly to see if it can handle it and ram some superpi without HT at 4267 stable
the CPU i have is not the best but board seems pretty stable
i was emailed this new F4F bios as well which is supposed to remove some uncore bugs so will have to retest that
i'm going to knock up some info once i get some testin done with SS as well
will do some much needed RAM testing...just hoping harve can knock up a final version of memset for these so i can play with RAM subtimings in windows
so far so good though
i havent experienced those reboot unstable settings like you guys mentioned but i've really just been experimenting for a short while yet
it does boot a lot slower than previous gen boards though but no big deal
How much year warranty does Gigabyte Motherboard has? 1 year or 3 years?
Easy Tune does indeed work on Vista x64
http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/7682/58657283lh4.jpg
where did you get that easy tune from
i wonder why mine refuses to load up
i've started some testing here
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=209143
Yes plz a list of what you disabled , it will make also my OS faster for sure :)
I refuse to remove it so by now must have sent 300+ app crash reports to MS.
Installing high end watercooling tomorrow morning
can anyone of you confirm that Dual channel is better than tri channel on this mobo for 3d benchies??
TQ
Tested every version for x58 of easytune with every bios from F2 to F4e and nothing changed.
Did also 3 clean installs of vista 64 ultimate with 2 different releases of the dvd , an integrated to october and origianl first sp1 release.
Only hardware that i have that probably other miss is a blue ray/HD dvd burner
Your from down under so I guess sentences works abckwards.;)
Noted, as you gracefully asked, I went back and checked to make sure what was the proper numbers, and you are right, you shouldnt belive me.
In bios set as 1.425vcore,cpu-z shows with prime running 1.392 and idle 1.408.
Was in a frenzy last day due to my newly arrived waterblock.
Which works tremendously btw.:yepp:
My multiplier keeps going from 21 to 20 when on full load, what setting in the bios is causing this?
I have ET6 working also on Vista x64. It didn't work last week before i did a fresh install. But it works fine now. Maybe update atleast to service pack 1 before installing.

Yeah the issue I believe with Easy Tune and Vista 64 is ATI drivers..
Okay my board died from some bios mishap and I can't decide if I should get this board again or go for the P6T Deluxe Gar what do you think you have had both.. More importantly are the temps better on the Gigabyte???
Also I wasn't a big fan of the F4f bios it didn't give you much control over the Vcore it went from like 1.375 to say 1.4375 not really much control...
The board has dual bios, it shouldnt give out like that, also a new bios is out, F4G
http://www.jzelectronic.de/jz2/board...ze=1&suchwort=
It's not bug with ati drivers cos i tried install easytune before videocard drivers :D
Installed only chipset ones and after easytune but still no go, miss one piece of the watercooling so cant boot till tomorrow morning /sigh
Maybe is that my vista cds are rather new builds, will try maybe to install a vista no sp1
how do you turn off turbo on these bad boys? I put it on standard (there is standard extreme and turbo) still puts my multi at x21 when Im idle/superpi ing
hi
how manypeople are using the on board sound
have a S B xfi music card which i have not install
is where chaging
now at 195 x20 with cpu @1.325
still waiting for fuzion 1366 back plate
cheers
These are my settings for a Prime stable i7 920 system at 200 x 20 with Turbo and HT Enabled.
VCore set to 1.46xx in Bios (VDroop brings it down to 1.408) And I believe I have Loadline Enabled. I'll look to confirm on my Reboot.
QPI/Vtt set to 1.375v
Dram Set to 1.66v
Everything else on Auto.

Nice cpu man, well 3.8ghz for daily use is perfect for me, requires very low voltages and performs great, i have settled at 3.8ghz and will stay here, anymore is just for benchmarks.
Nice overclocking Kensek, what are you using for cooling?
So finally all my parts have been ordered to complete my I7 Rig, hoping that it will arrive by Dec 5th.
My Rig : I7 920 - EX58-UD5 - 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz - XFX 8800GTS G92 - CM 850W PSU.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...d.php?t=209334
The Gig is 4 sale.
I'm using a Swiftech GTZ with a 1366 adaptor sent to me from Gabe himself.
What bios are you using?
I think the Vcore is a little high IMHO what cooling solution are you using?? Also what are your temps over the long term? I ran prime at 5 minute intervals for 3 hours but it would always fail.. How long is prime stable?? Also I see your using XP I can always OC better on XP always I wonder i that would translate to Vista??
Bios is F4c. The board can run BClk up to 196-197 at 1.36v. But then to go higher requires voltage increases in leaps and bounds.
Intel has published, and it is in the 100+ page booklet that comes in the i7 retail box, that the i7 can safely go to 1.55v.
I've also ran an Asus' P6T and a R2E.
where can we download the latest beta bios?
I didn't find a link on the German site
Prime stable too at 1,45 vcore bios and 1,37 qpi, any link for the F4C , with F3 i am never able to boot on a coolboot , board just keep loop till reset settings, but on reboots is just fine :(
Max temp with 8 thread wprime 53° , love my new watercooling build :)
P.S. 20 mins wprime passed still going :)
I dont have any reboot issues on bios F3, unless I put some settings at auto instead of manually locking them. For example if mem volts or timings are at auto, on cold boot tries to change them to incorrect "default" values. Later bioses will probably fix the auto settings, but manually locking them down works for me.
That's good to know.. Do you put all of your settings on lock down I mean is anything left on auto? i.e. like my board always had the most stability when I left the QPI on auto but I can't use EZ tune to see what voltage the auto actually set the board too so don't know what voltage to lock down...
Channel subtimings and channel volts and DRAM termination volts are on auto, everything else is locked down. I will eventually lock subtimings down, just so bios updates that change those timings dont affect my stability....once I play with the timings myself. I had same reboot issue on P35 DQ6, especially after updating bioses, but once I had everything locked down the problem was resolved.
though I did have ?incompatible curcial on my P35 DQ6 that caused reboot hell when cold reboot only, that was solved by changing out mem to corsair approved mem...and nothing was wrong with crucial that memtest 7 passes could detect.
The huge GB X58 Extreme heatpipe addition that takes up the pcie slot and comes separately was pretty much useless on mine (circled in red in pic). It did not add any more cooling to what was already there, not surprising since it is not even directly on top of the nb. All ambients 26C, prime run 1hr.
Initially with it off, NB load temps 54-55C, idle 47-48C.
Put it on, NB load temps 54C.
Reinstalled it, put fan against it, NB load 53C
held it on with paste and removed it while running pc, no diff.
Removed it and removed empty WB, (so looks more like UD5) put a spot fan over bare space, load temps dropped to 47C even after several hours of prime. idle dropped to 43.
Not that anyone cares about NB temps on these, but that monster takes up space, a pcie slot, and is useless, especially compared to just a spot fan directly on the NB.
whats the waterblock made out of on the extreme? I havent messed with mines but it looks like aluminum, could it be copper with nickel plating??
the WB is all copper. Though if your WC' you should go Rampage Extreme and swap out the NB passive heat sink for a Swiftech NB-Max. Gabe specified it to work for sure.
And yeah the Heatsink is ridiculously idiotic .
It not only looks ugly, but probably wont benefit it at all (though I cant confirm as i dont have the board).
You are on bios F3 correct?? What is your exact OC now I have seen you post a bunch but can you run your settings at the 200-211 Bclk at 4.0? Or are you running things a little different with the higher multi?
Also any onboard WCing solution or the NB has always been well sh***y in my opinion had the Striker II Extrme thing leaked or broke can't remember, had the Uber X38 Asus Maximus Extreme heatsink leaked all over my video cards I think I'll pass on that option forever...
I wish we could get a bios without the twice rebooting and sometimes reseting the bios.
With turbo off, I can run 20x200, 191x21, 182x22 all prime stable at same vcore of 1.35 bios, loadline on. But I think I finally got lucky and got a nice chip, makes up for my E8600 and E8400.
With turbo on, 182x22 gives me 4/4.2 which is still prime stable, turbo is 182x23 or 4.186 and prime stable.
However with 20x200, turbo on gives me 23x200 or 4.6ghz for turbo, and I have to increase my vcore to ~1.5v just to boot. Same goes for 19x191, turbo gives me 23x191. With i920 20x200 turbo will give you 21 multi, so this issue will not occur on i920 at 20 multi.
In fact if I decrease the multi to 15 and bootup, turbo still gives me 23 multi for +8 turbo, then drops to 15 multi on load. Have been doing beta testing for unclewebb and reading about turbo....but difficult when bios itself is ? doing things correctly.
So I run 182x22, in order to run turbo enabled. The million dollar ? is, when intel says +1 turbo do they mean +1 over stock, in other words bios is acting correctly and will always go to turbo of stock multi +1 (23 on i940) regardless of multi setting in bios, or is it a bios bug and the chip is supposed to run at +1 over bios multi. If turbo is +1 over stock, then for 4ghz those with i920 will only be able to run 20x200 turbo enabled, and those with i940 will only be able to run 22x182 turbo enabled. My guess is on i920 19x211 will not be stable with turbo on, as your turbo will then be 21x211 or 4.4.
Given msr editor shows max turbos listed as 23,23,23,24 on i940 chip, and that is probably what sets turbo multi, I am starting to think it is not a bios bug, and that turbo enabled will bring your multi all the way up to stock +1, regardless of what multi is set at in bios.
Which means I need a 9 multi to bring my mem up to stock, b/c I can not run turbo 20x200 (which would allow x8 multi for 1600 native mem speed), so I am stuck at 182x22....or buy some 1800 and run x10 multi. That will be one advantage of i920, for those that can run 20x200 stable.
According to intels white paper on turbo, which I posted in realtemp thread, it states max turbo is +1 (again ? over stock or +1 over bios) when 1 to 4 cores are loaded providing there is enough power headroom and within other operating parameters. For example light load of even all 4 cores still yields turbo. To get the +2 or 24 turbo (i940), I had to shut off 3 cores in bios and only truly run 1 (intel states this in white paper), which begs the question what is the purpose of 24 turbo multi on i940 or 22 turbo multi on i920, how many are going to shut off 3 cores in bios to get it.
Earlier in i7 thread I posted a prime run of 20x200, that was with turbo off.
still with F4f here...seems the best for me...
