I'm loving the idea of the fan holder as an alternative to wire clips, but will they sell it separately? I want to get the TRUE Copper but enjoy the benefit of the fan holder for a push-pull config. Also, does anyone know if the included fan is any good?

the real question is,,,, (well 2)

are they making the base humped and thus worthless like the original TRUE
are they making the X bracket tighten down so loosely that, yet again, the heatsink becomes useless....

i saw, but do not recall who, someone using this on an i7 system for review (someone here)

Looks like MSRP of the 1366 bracket is $9.00 US. Not the end of the world, but not great. :shrug::(

Most review sample Nehalem kits came with TRUEs actually. ;)

And yes, the included fan is a great 1600RPM fan....it's a Scythe S-Flex F with a different sticker (Sony is the OEM).

IIRC Sony is the general MFGR for Scythe, I think (but I'm not sure) that Sony holds the patent on fdb fans.

Looks like it'll do the job as usual for TR. I'm glad they're at least offering the 1366 mounting kit, how many other mfgrs don't bother?

I'm looking to do a push-pull config, but I want my fans to be as silent as possible when my i7 is idle or on light load. Would you guys recommend these 1600RPM fans that Thermalright includes or should I go with Noctua's? Thanks in advance.

So it's a TRUE, but compatible with LGA1366. I bet there'll be a lovely bout of price gouging to accompany such a thing.

Or you can just buy the mounting kit and re-use your existing TRUE, I'm willing to bet this TRUE is about the same price as any other TRUE.

Wait so does this TRUE have any differences compare to the current TRUE or it just has a different mount kit? $9 ain't bad for the kit considering I just need to buy it to use with my lapped TRUE.

Yeah its $100

The guys over at CrazyPC even offer the option to have it lapped for just $19 more.

Wow, so they're now shipping it with a fan holder that doesn't fit 38mm fans, great. A step backwards IMO. They should have kept the wires and instead ship it with a lapping kit and some washers.

Meh, I meant the new TRUE is probably about the same price as any other TRUE.

It's not like zip ties don't fix any fan mounting problems on the TRUE anyway, hell, zip ties are the stock mounting method for any fan on their HR coolers now.

I just like the fan clip. It looks awesome.

Great job including the fan holders. I've got the current Ultra-120 with a pair of Scythe S-Flex F mounted so this seems like an almost identical setup - just slightly easier to setup I would imagine. Great job Thermalright :up:

I have had pleasure to test this cooler with a Nehalem system, and I can say the mounting has improved: mounting pressure is much better, and thread on every screw is a bit longer. Fan is just a generic fan, not bad, but nothing exceptional either. It's quite silent, but performs worse than Noctua wide blade fan.

Lol.. Noctua, offers LGA1366 brackets free of charge to owners of current Noctua coolers. Thermalright, not only take $9 for the bracket but introduce a 'new' sku with a thin fan and the new bracket. Funny.

I know which cooler I'll be buying next time :clap:

Noctua mounting kit doesn't even come close to TR in terms of mounting pressure and weight support. Noctua fan clips are also much less convenient than TRs clips or this new bracket. Sure Noctua cooler weights the same, performs almost the same, looks almost the same, but such little details is what makes Thermalright superior.

The fan on the Nehalem sample systems is not the same as the retail fans :)

Fan clip is sorta annoying, I don't like it really. It never seems to clip in perfectly and feels flimsy.

Looks nice. Also the fanholder, although the normal fanholders work good too:confused: Well, installing can be annoying but at least you can hide some cables around them, now you cant.

Oh, I'm very happy they decided to make a bolt-through kit.

I have a lapped TRUE right now, and if I ever decide to go Nehalem (though I'll probably skip it), it's nice to know I don't need a new cooler.

1366 kit is available now directly from TR, should be at retailers next week (or when 1366 launches to retail) if history is any indication. :)

Scythe - All coolers. Brackets will be sold separately and parts supporting LGA1366 will be given a 'Rev. B' addition to the name. The new Mugen 2 will suport LGA1366 from the get go
Thermaltake - V1 and Big Typhoon VX will be updated with LGA1366 support. All Thermaltake water cooling ('LCS') will be updated for LGA1366 support. No confirmation of being able to buy the brackets separately but the new brackets have been given individual part numbers (A100069 for V1 and A100070 for Big Typhoon VX) so I would presume they will be made available separately.

At the store I ordered my CPU, motherboard and bolt-thru kit everything will be available tomorrow/this week, but the kit in 14 days. So guess what I canceled lol.

I found a shop already having the TRUE 1366 RT in stock, so ordered that instead. Now Im only 'afraid' the RAM I ordered wont be available yet, but I hope it actually is.

It appears they're available in Europe and Australia today but not the USA.

ya it seems the 1366 brackets are getting more available than the 1366-TRUE. i can't even find availability of the new fan clip

:banana::banana::banana::banana:ing wonderful. So while Ive found the one being available already, the complete order has to wait anyway because all the shops decided to bring their ETA back. CPU and motherboard went from 2-3 days to 14 days, RAM went from 1-5 days to 10-20 days:shocked:

And I was afraid I had to let the motherboard and CPU wait because the bracket might not be available yet...

That's why I've decided to stick with stock cooling for another two weeks until my TRUE Copper and 1366 Bolt-Thru kit arrive.

Well, the worse part is that they already haven the cooler reserved for me. They've even 4 more in stock. But the RAM went from 1-5 days to 10-20 days, but since an hour it's back at 1-5 days again:rolleyes:

I have the TRUE. It's awesome, you DO have to lap it for sure. It's a wobblefest. It's amazing with these companies, all their research, time, money, engineering, advertising/marketing...etc and they can't run a lathe across the bottom of this unit so it will actually do what it is supposed to do? AMAZING! Heres some shots of mine lapped.

If you decide to polish make sure the last step you use some Articlean Thermal Metal Purifier.

Looks a good cooler little stingy not to give two fans for push and pull config though, Noctua's 1366 still looks to be about the best i7 air cooler

Not TRUE at all (no pun intended) Get two Noctua NF-P12 fans push/pull and lap it, then the TRUE blows everything out of the water.

Most people prefer Prolimatech Megahalems I believe, although I cannot say that the OC community has a very firm position in this case.

There was the Prolematech Megahalem, "now" is Cogage TRUE Spirit(if those review temps are not just margin of error).

Like zalbard said, I'd prefer a Megahalem too.

The general consensus so far seems to be PM, interesting times in heatsink land!

Some suggest this older HS plus 3 good 120mm fans outdoes the PM, but once you're getting that crazy may as well go WC!

Thanks for the links jalyst i'll give then a thorough read. I have also heard that the ifx 14 can be a hard one to beat with 3 fan setup but it also needs lapping too.

Guys Thermalright has addressed the lapped not lapped ,flat not flat issue several times. I emailed them and they said the design was made intentionally that way including the machined base. I was told by Thermalright the machine marks held the thermal paste in place better not allowing air pockets and that the smile shaped base was made that way on purpose to make better contact with certain cpu cores on certain cpus cores. I was also told the base was meant to swivel to allow the heat sink to be angled or moved slightly in any direction to make mounting more compatible. There have been several threads dedicated to lapping tests that say it does next to nothing on most cpus. Do I believe that (not so sure but don't kill the messenger).
