The E0 Q9550 SLB9V thread (finally!)

Spent the last few days tweaking for this chip to be used in a SS SG-01 (this post is mostly copied from my VR Zone post).

After a day of tweaking downwards (on the Puasa public holiday), this is what I got for now. Had also flashed to the new 0901 BIOS with official E0 support for the DFI P45 Jr, Vdroop Control is Enabled (default).

3.8GHz@8.5x447@1.23/1.23 Vcore/VTT with 10x IBT load temps of 58/58/56/56C (Singapore ambient ~24-30C). vNB down to 1.42v but yet to optimise vDIMM though, looks like unfinished job for later.

Looks like it might be a go for 3.8GHz in the SG-01 after all. :D

My lousy Q9550 doing 3.2-3.3 around 1.26v... on DFI P35-UT board though...

anyone using C1 steppings Q9550 on P35 UT ? mine to share the GTL references values... i tweak mine and very confused... now running 61-61-61... or any idea of GTL reference values on a 45nm quad ?

cant seems get the GTL values correct as i need high vcore for 3.4,3.6 and so on...

Still priming. I know it'll be stable as it ran IBT all night and passed, it gave me higher temp readings too. When going to prime it failed within 12 mins, twice. So I've upped the VCore and it's still stable coming up to 1 hour :)

Mine was packed on 9th of June 08 06/09/08 (US Date though) and the week is 15th. So am I right in saying it was made in April?

My C1 primes 3.8ghz @1.25v but just curious how tall was the heatsink your Q9550's come with? Mine is only about 2 inches tall! Looks like a damn laptop heatsink or maybe a heatsink for a 486

Nice results here guys. I couldn't wait for the E0 to come out. So I snagged a Q9650 instead.. but looks like you guys are doing great.

Also, The Q9550 E0's are Now available on Tankguys.com for $350 for sure E0's.
Also as of 10/08 Newegg.com has started shipping E0's. Everyone that ordered after 10/08 so far that I've talked to has a E0.. It's probably not a For sure thing with Newegg, as they ship from all over. but They have moved plenty. as the Q9550 seems like the New Q6600.

Thanks. There's another lucky chap on another forum with a similiar C1 achieving 4GHz at 1.3v ish. Only thanks to his results I tried it out as I thought I'd never be able to hit 4GHz with it :ROTF:

I could do 24/7 3.8Ghz easily, but meh 3.6Ghz and 3.8Ghz cant see any difference :p:

One thing that keeps :confused::confused: me is my VID, it should be "THE" stock voltage on load?!

The 4GHz brings my input power (W) down because my PSU is at the power curve where it's most efficient :D

I've still got to do some measuring of that too. Plus it'll keep me warm a bit through winter :rofl:

Yeap, in week always when i get home from work my rooms temperature is +21c and then when i am going to sleep its on 26c :cool:

My settings are:

VCore: 1.28v
VPll: 1.5v
VNB: 1.2v
VTT: 1.2v
VDram: 1.9v

CPU GTL: +40mV (I'm on Maximus Formula II so I don't know how you'd convert that for your board)
All the other GTL's are auto.

But... On my situation auto on stock is 1.16 on load, still all programs says that VID is 1.25 :shrug:

On this C1 Stone i can run stable at 1.25 max 3.5Ghz, 3.6Ghz needs 1.27

1.16 is the Vdrooped reading... 1.25 VID is THE BIOS related voltage setting taking into account VDROOP which is part of intel's CPU spec.

Here's mine. Batch is L830B421, VID of 1.2375.

Very happy with this chip. I managed to boot into Windows at 4.25GHz with 1.392v, but cause of the terrible vdroop of my board, it froze when I started prime as the volts dropped down to 1.336v.

Pickin up an E0 Q9550 of unknown batch in about an hour :D Can't wait!

If that's not bad enough I'm on a EVGA 790i Ultra running her @ 3.775GHz, If I go any higher I get BSOD's all over the place "A Clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval"

That secondary processor is my Video card(s) since sometimes if I have the GTL's just about right the screen will flash black and windows tells me that the video driver recovered from a serious error. if I run my current 8x444 at any higher than 1.25VTT there's no combination of GTL's I can use to stop this and believe me I've tried to nail them down. If I run my FSB any more than 444x8.5 there's no combination of VTT/GTL's AT ALL that will keep her running...

3.775GHz is 20x Linpack stable.

I overclock every single day, it's part of my job(at a boutique) but I've never met a CPU *cough* B*tch *Cough* like this one.

Very low leakage chip since with 1.36V @ 3.775 it barely breaks 60C on air..... Damn where's that emoticon ::smashing my face against a wall::

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried setting CPU GTL to AUTO?

On my Rampage Formular, I only have 0.63x, 0.65x and 0.67x on CPU GTL. Like your system, I couldn't get my system stable, and getting the exact same BSOD message. Right be for I called it a quit, I just went, "what the heck, it wouldn't hurt anything at all", and set the CPU GTL to AUTO. Voila! :clap:

First off, I'd like to shove a hot poker into the eyes of ya'll that got 4GHz with low voltage. Yes, I'm maliciously envious.

Anyway, I just got my second Q9550 since the first was so horrible (it had troubles at stock speeds). My second Q9550 seems to be doing much better. But it seems 4GHz is not gonna happen for me.

I'm at 3.8GHz now and Prime 95 ran for about 10 hours with 1.36 vcore and 1.20 vtt except for CPU3 which failed after 6 hours. Both GTLREFs are at 63%. Should I raise the second GTLREF up to 65%?

Not the best board for OC'ing a Quad your vdroop is soooo bad I can't imagine you being able to get 4Ghz with that board and this chip unless you run it at about 1.5 and allow for the vdroop to take you to 1.4 or even worse 1.37 give or take.. Your problem is the board not the chip...

I had been wondering about that and asking around if my P35 board would limit my overclocking with the Q9550. I almost picked up a P45 board, but I got the impression it wouldn't make a difference.

I have a vdroop of about 0.06 to 0.07. So my 1.36 in the BIOS drops to about 1.30 with occasional dips to 1.29 under Prime95 Small FFTs.

Is the vdroop on the P45 boards less?

Nope but Asus And Gigabyte have "Loadline Calibration" option on bios that minimizes vdroop.

This CPU has piqued my interest...I was thinking about the Q9650, but if these are getting up to 4-4.1 GHz, then I can put the extra $300 to good use elsewhere.

I wish that were the case. I ordered 2 9550's last Friday and got 1-E0 and 1-C1. The C1 blows. In identically configured systems, it's 12-16° hotter than the E0 at load and I can't get it higher than 3.5 due to heat more so than stability. I've lapped and reseated just to be sure - no change in temps.

Can you tell us the VID values of both 9550's you got? To correctly read the VID values, you can use CoreTemp.

Thanks. Those temps are after OCCT and benchies. It gets hotter than that running prime but max is 70~72 which is ok for air w/ 1800rpm fan running at 80%.

CoreTemp is reading VID for BOTH chips at 1.200v. I would have thought there would be a minor difference.

I have both machines identically configured in hardware and OC settings(currently set at 3.6Ghz), both 6 hours prime stable. E0 idles @ 29°C :up:, C1 @ 44°C :down:. That temp difference is consistent at load too.

Do you mean test the 9550 on the MFII? Sorry, man. My MFII is retired from testing as it is now my home 24/7 rig. If you are wanting some settings and results on that setup(E8500/MFII), I'll do my best to find some system down time and run the benchmarks/tests.

I ditched my E0 it was so brutal... 1.36VCORE loaded for 3.78GHz after a solid week of tweaking! :down:

Grabbed a C1 with a 1.1325VID and its running 3.83 on 1.28Vcore after a couple of hours she's already 10x IBT stable :up:

Damned E0 piece of trash that chip was :rolleyes:

Umm.. even your old chip got higher VID that doesnt make it any :banana::banana::banana::banana:tyer than any lower VID ones.

example:
1.15VID you clock it so hard that you need 1.35 VCORE so there is a 0.2V increase, And it runs really hot ofc

1.25VID You clock it and use 1.45 VCORE so there is a 0.2V increase, it runs same temps as 1.15VID one on 1.35 VCORE.

This is why i keep intels specified volt-range pretty :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed up. It "limits" higher VID oc's. In my situation i keep 1.4V "max" for standard use 0.15 increase... :eek:

Hello everyone! I have one question fo you. I wan't to buy a new Q9550 E0, аnd the only Q9550 they have in the shop has a batch L835B100 аnd this 4 numbers: 4A2500 and of couse it is E0, so should i buy it or look for another one? Is it gonna be ok with overcloking?

There's nobody in entire world can tell you if the cpu you are refering to will be a uber-overclocker or not. It all has to do with your luck. If you are lucky enough, you'd get a uber-overclocker.;)

p.s. but I do like the sound of the batch # L835B100.

Which would you guys choose between L830B421 and L835B078? I know it's a crapshoot, each chip is different, but basically I'm looking to run at a given speed with the lowest volts to produce the lowest heat. (Aren't we all?) There's only one L830B result which is in this thread, at pretty low load volts for 4.05GHz, there's a few results for L835B and they seem to take a touch more voltage but there's more data and they're pretty consistent. This is for a DFI LP JR P45 in a smaller case, limitin my cooling options which is why I'm asking.

So, any strong gut feelings, or should I just flip a coin? :shrug:

So, i was late and they sold that chip:(
But i bought another one L825B*** and core temp shows vid 1,1V:). At stock the vcore is 0,96-1,03V:)

batch l827b235, pack date 9/18/08, vid 1.22v. 4100, (483*8.5) 1.33vcore, 1.44 vtt, air. idle 20c, load 54c. could not get a stable overclock with dfi lp ut p45, so i got an asus (!!). cant get over this at any vcore/vtt so i am thinking that there is fsb hole/wall on board or chip. i have fooled around little with gtl, but not much.

It might be reading the VID differently since it's at idle and Speedstepped down. Try loading it with P95 to double check the VID if you're interested.

Finally got my :banana::banana::banana::banana: stable @ 3.7 Won't shoot for 4.0Ghz+ till I get my 4870x2 and my NB waterblock. Gonna try to keep lowering the voltages to see what I can achieve. Currently it's at 1.25vCore, 1.29 NB, 1.3 VTT. 3D stable :)

I doubt it.. from the readings of my Q9550 I think it's more realistic to use 95c or even 90c. There may even exist the chip-to-chip variance so I think everyone should find their own Tj Max value... Intel just screwed up on the 45nm chips.

I got a bugged core I think. Running OCCt now and my cores are reading: 42-46-26-48
When I run core temp and minimize it, it only shows 3 core temps in toolbar, yet Task Manage shows all 4 cores at 100%
Any ideas?

Mines not an E0 but still a pretty good chip for being a C1. I think there may be a little more in it, but this is the highest oc ive got so far and this was on blend.
