ASUS Maximus II Formula - new P45 king?
-
sweet pwr/rst buttons ;-)
-
New function of LCD Poster first shown with this motherboard. We can select in BIOS what to be shown - temperatures, voltages or RPM's :) Nice!
http://tiny.pl/k9vd
High hopes for 600+ FSB for Wolfdales.
Yorkfield quite common.

-
Jeebus what's with the heatsinkery? Got a Crosslinx chip under there or something?
-
Seems stock NB & Mosfets heatsinks are removable without removing heatpipes!
Sweat, but do you think MCW30 & MIPS P5E Mosfets waterblocks will fit on top of heatpipe?
-
must have one...! i'm waiting here...
-
-
Do you know the release date & approx $$ yet?
-
P45 has one disadvantage which is odd PL :(
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/5994/crypq1.th.png
For trusty B2 Conroe, 480FSB seems to be stable, 485 now i see too, but 490 - no go :(

2 Vcores? one for booting and one as actual working volts? Or what is it?
I think I'll get one, I know, I should stop spending money, but somehow that board is taunting me:p:

p45's are starting to come out. pmp, did you buy this board or was it a prototype that you're testing?

Let's flash its BIOS in our Maximus/Rampage Formula I to get more performance, LOL....
I'm sure that will work!

In ya dreams it will
Give us some more teasers PMP plz :D Make me sell my P5Q Dlx

Looks great... I'm interested in one if it is proven to overclock a Q9450 better and will use the same blocks I have on my current Maximus Formula.

Actually with those settings, PL11 worked, PL10 didn't. Tommorow i will flash it with latest BIOS, which should behave alike those from P5Q Series, and we'll see.
Yup, 1:1 makes PL Poo Poo :(

I'm not sure yet. Dual VCore is available only when it's from 0,80V > 0,95V then it disappear. Maybe it's wise, for those who will run cold CPUs like E72xx or E82xx with passive cooling, underclocked, when one core wouldn't go with low VCore as other one ? :)

I thought this board is DDR2 but your CPUZ shows DDR3 so this board is going to 2 or 3? Plus I wonder when will this be out can't wait? Oh by the way the CPU volt pin is that require 4 or 8 looks like 4 of them got covered up or it works both 4 and 8 pins? Thanks,
-
Nice looking board be good to see some proper testing:up:
-
hmm.. looking it have a little problem with Perf Lvl same as other P45 :( Thanks for sharing mate ;)
Can't wait for playing it :D

Its a bug of cpu-z. Its ddr2.
The 8 pin molex for cpu requires at least 4, better use 8 for more stability.
-
Is there any chance that EIST will run with OC or the EPU-6 Engine let chill my CPU in idle?
If i saw the the two CPU VCore i hoped a little bit that one is for idle and the other for load :)

Ahh exactly like Arne said above - just a CPU-Z poo poo.

Ohh don't ask me about EPU-Six. Last time i tried to use it at clean VistaOS + P5Q3 Deluxe - it ended with OS corruption
But IIRC (please someone correct me if i'm wrong) EPU-Six could work only (in terms of doing "something" to CPU VRM) with EIST enabled and AI Tuner set to Auto.
It has some turbo (raised fsb etc) modes available, but for me, only visible thing was damaged OS :ROTF:

Along the same line, I wonder if my Maximus Formula EK MOSFET sinks will work on this..
-
so is it 4 pins or 8 pins for the CPU?
-
pmp do u have bios 0601??
u should try that bios..

Wow, that is one sweet board, so where does the P45 fit in, in the greater scheme of motherboard users.
Is it better then the x48, what gap does it fill besides being very sexy and
draining our wallet's

that's what I'm trying to figure out too. it sounds like X48 gives you the full x16 on the lanes, while P45 limits them to x8 in CrossFire. The other thing I'm wondering is what speed the lanes run if you have one VGA and a RAID controller? does it limit both to x8 in the same way, or could you get x16 on both in this case? anyone know yet?

pmp, try different FSB straps.
I've just finished the testing for the Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS5 review at stock conditions, and I can reach Performance Level 4 stable, 3 is impossible ( instant crash ).
The Asus P5K3 Deluxe ( P35 ) can reach P.L. 3 stable at the same settings, [b]however the performance is the same. We can say that P45 PL = P35 PL + 1, at least under 350MHz.
Don't know when I'll do the testing required to start the overclocked measurements.
The results for stock ( they're directly comparable with the results of the Asus Striker II Extreme review & the Gigabyte EP35-DS4 reviews ):

I tried it already, but with 0401 i was unable to get lower than stable 8 or unstable 7... 6 made a poo poo at any strap/fsb.

well alpha bioses only with the R&D..
so anybody can get them???
-
Not sure why someone should go for the p45 instead of the x48. I'll wait some head-to head bench test, but so far the x48 seems a winner to me.

The numbers are nearly identical ( p45 vs x48 clock per clock ).
The chances of you hitting 600+ FSB with P45, are WAY HIGHER than hitting 580+ with X48. [ just exclude the P5E64 WS Evolution because it looks like it's constantly hitting 580+ with wolfdales :p: ]
-
pmp:
450MHz FSB with PL8 on P45 isn't bad.
Don't know if you can drop it to PL7, and I don't remember if I can run PL6 @ 450MHz FSB on P35 ( I guess I can, but I'm not sure :p: ).

either, you can use 4 or 8 pin connector, the cap over 4 of them is so you dont plug a 4 pin connector in the wrong half (even though its not really necessary because it wont fit in the wrong half without force).

OIC I asked that cause that's how I burned my old motherboard but a little different story. Any way thanks.

Dear God :eek2:
This is the most beautiful board I've seen in Intel platform.
[Noob mode on]Just think that it's a shame it doesn't support DDR3[/Noob mode on]

ASUS think about noobs also - await Rampage Extreme motherboard :D
-
Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS5 - PCB Rev0.3 - BIOS D21 ( buggiest BIOS ever :D )
Unfortunately the FSB/DRAM Ratio 1/2 isn't working, and I had to settle down for DDR3-1333 instead of DDR3-1600 ( the setting I used for the other motherboards )
Stock results left - Overclocked results on the right
http://i29.tinypic.com/2lw1v2s.jpg
The stock & overclocked results are comparable with the ones in the Striker II Extreme and the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 review.
Although the battle isn't fair on every test due to the lower memory frequency ( compared to the Striker II Extreme and the P5K3 Deluxe ), but that's life...either get it sorted, or "move on" and live with it.

I think this week i will create appropriate thread about Rampage Extreme :)
-
Mmm waiting patiently for Rampage Extreme. I need a to see a good DDR3 P45.
-
Can't wait for this board to be released, looks the goods. If anyone spots this board for sale pls post here. subscribed!!

I need to decide on which one of these boards to go with the P5Q Deluxe or the Maximus II Formula. Could I please get some advice from the experts here?

non rog p45 is somewhat avalaible, the other you will have to wait a bit.. so depends on how good you can control the urge to buy now:p:
The rog boards come with more bios options which is always good, so if you love tinkering with the bios for the last few % speed then I'd say wait for the maximus II formula.
-
ahhH! i check everyday on newegg if it's available. i hope this isn't one of the last p45's to hit the shelf and i hope it not price gouged like many things that are in high demand when the first come out. can you guys all do me a favor and not get it, so that prices stay low? :D

Is this a 8x/8x Crossfire or something else?
What is the Crosslink for on this mobo?

Too Bad :/
Will have to choose beetween X38/48 limited OC and P45 limited Crossfire...
-
Don't forget P45 is PCI 2.0 8x 8x... I hope to see some 4850 scores soon on these P45 boards and be able to compare them to X38/48
-
There was a bandwidth test on THG that showed there wasn't a noticeable difference in performance going from 16x to 8x, but there was at 4x. I doubt there'd be a big difference for everyday gaming, but I could see hardcore benchers wanting 16x for breaking 3DMark world records.
EDIT: Here's a link to the test: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...-2-0,1915.html
-
so any idea when this board will be available?
-
autobots transform...err i mean motherboard :D
-
I have a p5q3 deluxe on order since I couldn't wait any more and wanted to jump to ddr3. The 3-phase ram and the extra wifi made it more attractive than the ddr2 version too. But I am really curious to know the launch date of this motherboard also.
I do not know much about this stuff but one thing has caught my attention.
All the tests that people are referencing to compare x4 x8 x16 pci-e speeds to help them with their motherboard chipset selection (x48/x38/p45), utilize the older pci-e 1.0 or 1.1 formats. Those tests are either using intel 975x or p35 chipset boards.
p45 chipset has pci-e 2.0 which doubles the bandwidth. So a x8 x8 crossfire configuration on the p45 should perform like x16 x16 on a 975x or a p35 providing more than adequate bandwidth. At least this is what I hoped and assumed when I pulled the trigger on the p5q3.
Plus I am sure before these graphics ports get bottlenecked with any future technology, we will be needing new motherboards for the new intel socket which will be coming out soon.
-
Say please, where i can buy this supermobo?!

Anybody has or can get some more detailed pics of the "SupremeFX X-Fi Audio Card"?

I want a 2nd opinion on that Tweaktown test... I hope something is not working properly there... or else PCI 2.0 8X 8X is a hoax to me
-
That tweaktown crossfire review hurts.
The numbers don't make much sense comparing with the other articles. The pci-e 2.0 of the p45 doesn't contribute at all?
The p5q3 will be untouched, ready to go back till I find another test that compares the p45 vs x48 crossfire performance. :(
I wanted a p5e64 ws evo but it was very expensive so I saw p5q3 as my savior. .
what is the best value overclocking CF board? (x38/x48, ddr2/ddr3 doesn't matter) (with my 8 multiplier, I need something good for 500 fsb)
Thanks
-
wel the asus rampage formula is pretty much the cheapest x48 around.
i own one and you wil get 585 fsb guaranteed. if you lucky higher
and it gives you the 16x16 cf

Isn't the P5E Deluxe cheaper than the Rampage?
-
anyone know where to get this board yet? can't find it on newegg.
im looking to replace my IP35 Pro since it only does Crossfire 16x4, and everthing i have read so far suggest that to be the worst way to go.
guess i'll hunt around ebay
-
-
Found it on Ebay :D
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MESE:IT&ih=012
same place that had my video cards, so looks like im in for a little drive ( they are located near by)
-
Well There are two more sellers on E-bay selling them and they are in San Jose but seem like they ignore my E-mail never reply.
-
As far as I know it's not out yet, so those guys are just trying to get "preorders" and the money upfront :D
-
Yup, that must be a preorder situation. There are already shops in google checkout taking orders for e8600s as well - 500 retail 400 oem. I think that's a little steep for those, should be arounf 300 at launch.
I really wish the rest of the DDR3 P45 lineups from Asus and DFI would hurry up and hit the streets though. That Biostar board is teasing me! Must resist more DDR2 boards...
-
-
Hey, and there it is. : )
Not a bad price either.
-
In Spain, avaiable for 205€
-
wasn't a pre-order, drove over to their store and they had it instock, i'll be installing my new board and second 4850 card later today. :D
they have more on there website and its a buck cheaper than their ebay listing, go figure.
http://www.emaxasp.com/superior/deta...S04P5QMAX2%2DF
-
Well i gave up on waiting for the motherboard, already got a X3360 over here doing nothing for 7 weeks.
So today i bought the Rampage, sure hope i aint gonna regret it.
BTW, hurray my first post :D
-
rampage will satisfy your needs dont worry :)
as for this board, the maximus II formula, is it better for FSB clocking than p5q-deluxE?
-
anyone know where i can host some pictures and screen shots, when im done putting this together it would be cool to post results.
-
imageshack, photobucket, flickr...
-
-
damn $269.99 How can I justify this to my wife? I told her was gonna get P5Q E @ $159. Virtually the same performance.
-
A man is gotta do what a man is gotta do!! :)

I'm about to order the Maximus II Formula and would like to know if this memory would be good to use in the board ? If someone could please reply I'd like to order it today thanks for your help and as always great advice.

I ordered this board today, along with a new set of memory to go with it. should arrive tomorrow, hope there will not be any compatibility problems.G.Skill F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI

anyone know of a better guide for the BIOS other than whats in the manual? specificaly for the ram. there are options in there that when enabled cause like 15 other options to show up.
what i need is Ace to jump the Abit ship and come over here to this Asus thread :D
