Whoop Ass is old, it's made by Jones Soda.
there is no way you said that with a straight face XD
Editor's Day?! I wanna goooooooo! Looking forward to hearing you spill your guts sometime soon Dino
LOL, I was expecting their new GPU benchmarks.
hehehe i'm from Australia
we don't have that drink here lol
i was laughing pretty hard when i found a can of whoopass in the goodies bag i tell ya that much :D
i'll do a bit of a write up + benchmarks about the event and cards when nda expires
damn, im so jealous, cant wait to see the results
Gonna pound some right before I bench!!
Jones Soda F'n rocks
hehe Vince
was good to finally put a name to a face mate :)
here's my favourite shot of the social part of the event
in good company from left to right
FUGGER, dinos22, k|ngp|n, moloko, Juan (CW - Chile Hardware editor)

btw...charles in this shot is freaking out that the bus is going to take off without us so he goes to chase it down......gets to it....starts banging on the windscreen but the driver still decides to go.........the funniest part is that everyone ran to follow him while there was another shuttle waiting for us right behind the shuttle that was leaving hahahaha
Great stuff guys, looks like a hell of a lot of fun  I need to move to California so I can crash such parties rather than working to get invited
I think moloko just wet himself
Their is an inquirer report going around that by charlie, that says the gtx 280 will get beat really badly by R700.
If charles(from your response looks like he has alot of credibility) has been to the event and seen these benchmarks, it looks like the gt 280 is in for some hard times.
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...0-280-revealed
lol, nice marketing from nvidia :D
i hope they keep foscussing on funny pr stuff like this and stay away from mudfights and anti campaigns against the competition! :)
LOL...a can of woop ass:D We only here that in movies here :D dint know there was an actely can :D
when is the NDA over or is that NDA, and was this in SJ (if so i wish that i got the pass from my cousin)
if those clocks are true they must have a whole new cuda architecture or it looks like it wont be beat the g92 or there will be alot of game patches and it will barely win
if the clocks are that low with their current setup it looks they want the workstation crowd, but then again whats the shader clock
:ROTF::rofl:

Clocks don't mean all that much when the architecture is different. Also, the rumor is that they got the MUL part to work so the shaders are optimized and properly working this time. IIRC, the two MADD + MUL operations of G80 weren't exactly working all the time so the theoretical 518.4 GFlops of G80 GTX was closer to 345.6. If GTX280 is at 3 flops/shader correctly this time and its at 1296 clocks and 240 shaders, then 933 GFlops would be correct and would be close to 3x flop performance of G80. Granted, flops doesnt mean performance scales perfectly, but if the rumored performance numbers are true, then they would certainly be possible given the FLOPS.
but they promoted low count shader optimization so im thinking that if they fixed the shaders and add more it will ether be really good or 0-15% gain for gaming, but it will open them back up to doing workstation and rendering
and memory dosnt seam to be a problem with most cards of this gen that have lessed bandwidth than the last gen, but it cant hurt (g92 v g80)
I remember a charlie that use to be around here that had a yoda face for his avatar, is this the same guy?
I remember he was quite respected here before. I heard he went to inquirer before. Is that him?
nah man
that charlie is still a member of this forum
great overclocker but a bit on the nuts side when it comes to current events hahahah
nah he's alight :D
Loved the whoopAss can! - did you save the can dinos?
Put it on Ebay so I can buy it! :p:
this guy?http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?p=340084
yeh same guy. he's still active. nice person too.
lol no offence but maybe u lads should put that can of whoop ass in the fridge and trade it in for a healthy shake :shrug: ..........jk......hope u had a great day :)

Perkam
i'll post some videos today to refill the can a bit for ya
just gotta organise it all and see what i can actually put up on youtube lol
Dude my can of Whoop ass came with no CD, so i cant play :(
Team WhoopAss
absolutely sick folding performance

Jensen Huang, Team WhoopAss, hahah
Will it really be Whoopass, or is it just marketing? :ROTF:
Hahah. Worst photo
Oh, it'll whoopass.
The worst part? I flew home, slept for a day and now have to work some crazy hours for the rest of the week to hit deadline and then fly off to Taiwan for Computex... all the while my new NVIDIA GPU will be sitting at home all alone - I think it may need a baby sitter. Watch out though, it packs a bunch
Thanks to NVIDIA for the hospitality and also props to Fugger and k|ngp|n for simply being chilled out and easy people to get along with - a harsh trip (massive time-zone swaps + little sleep) can be made up for by good company  :D :yepp:
Ill happily look after that baby for you Josh, you flying by Singapore?
Yeah. We'll be staying one night @ Raffles :D before we make our way to Taiwan.
I'll be travelling with Nick Ross from PC Authority and two of the company's sales/marketing team. We'll probably be catching up with one of our old sales crew now based in Singapore and hitting the local bars and clubs. If you're free (I'll get dates, times etc) it'd be great to catch up with you again. PM me if you're in need of some toys to play with - unfortunately the new baby is off limits at the moment (NDAs etc).
Sounds awesome Josh, ill keep the night free once you have a date.
News toys are always welcome :D
Although the last one i got slugged 7% GST on a sample :/
7% hahah rly?
that sucks
imagine getting a media sample for short testing for some $20,000 uber PC and then getting slugged 7% on that :ROTF:
To be completely honest, and this will no doubt sound cliche, I just fell into it.
I grew up always wanting to just skate for my life. Make a living off that if possible - even if it was just scraping by - and just enjoy life like that. Then I broke my ankle and following this was a string of injuries. I lost my sponsors and due to recovery time, a lot of my skill as well.
During this time out I got into computers and just picked it up and kind of ran with it. First I got into gaming and competed in some high level clan scenes for a while but ultimately got drawn into the hardware and benchmarking.
Now I'm one of the founding members of Team.AU and work full time for an Australian enthusiast tech magazine and spend my days overclocking and testing the latest hardware (not always enjoyable - like today *sigh*)
7% GST! What the funk? Definitely ain't gonna let that happen again
I hear those boat people are pretty good at crossing the straights between Indonesia and Australia... /bail :p:
yeah, stating contents value is a no-no when shipping to Sing
Nah, more like two AMD platform motherboards (790FX and 780a) eatting it and failing and another X48 board playing up.
Thankfully I finished the 9-series GPU coverage before I went to the US - it'd be written in a totally different light now hahaha. Damn it! All I want to do is play with the new NVIDIA GPU :brick:
Tonight I've gotta bench some P45 gear too. I came back from the US to find five P45 based motherboards waiting for me though still waiting on any from GIGABYTE
I wish I could simply stop time and bench hardware in a void :yepp:
i saw some new CUDA stuff (it should be CUDA 2.0) and i am impressed it can run some libraries with native support in C++ but its open to the public and works in windows, im hoping that this will make ati put their steams coding tools in the public and not only workstation partners
was rick rolled by this post
this can of whoopass really takes the cake for me
have a look at how fast this GFX card is encoding and transcoding videos compared to your usual software/CPU based encoding
talk about CPUs getting owned lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C_Pj1Ep4nw
looks interesting but h264 is limited by hard disk now so i cant see this helping unless u have a ram drive setup for your + demo and a hard drive for the base or - demo
did they do something with maya or solid works or cuda that dosnt involve the hard drive
how could they
where are you going to store temporary data
M$ dose it, and from what i understand its a common practice
u encode one thing to a ram drive or SSD array then the other to an old hard disk, but it looks interesting i want to see how it pans out
and i miss heard i thought that the but rates were higher, i ran the numbers and its 66MB/s for what they are doing and thats alot different than what i was initially thinking
but thats impressive encoding at 66MB/s, dose rapid HD have a site i cant find one
That was probably my friend NightRaven
this was the setup BTW
again sorry for the OT..could you PM me wheres the best place to buy PC parts here in singapore? i just moved here last april :) thanksQuote:

Off topic: How great is the limitations of CPU and HDD speed with respects to capturing (with Fraps)?
I have noticed capturing at 2560 * 1600 resolution, makes a significant drop in the framerate captured, compared to the framerate when not capturing.
Is this a limitation of HDD speed and/or CPU speed?
Why does a 1 min capture @ 27 fps take ~4 GB of HDD space with Fraps?
Please respond in PM, if this is all off topic :)
It is raw uncompressed video data.
Shows what wonders compression can do right? ;)
Apple's conversion must suck a lot of something...
Either that or it is rigged in favor of the GPU. They wouldn't do that. Right? Right?
Fraps videos ain't raw videos.
It's using its own video codec, which is pretty good I must admit concerning the data rates and the resulting image quality.
NDA just lifted on this latest FarCry2 tech demo
check it out fellas

that looks alot like assassins creed but with more grass, and guns:up:
do u have the rest of the fire that looks awsome
That looks simply stunning, I would also love to see the rest if it exists. Runs really smooth too.

To answer your Question, Sim Lim Square is the best place period and if you are lazy to make a trip down there is always the local online retailer, www.potterhouse.net whose catalogue isnt too bad... :D
So psyched about that game, it's going to be fan-:banana::banana::banana:ing-tastic on GTX280 in SLI. It's one of those games where, after seeing 1 or 2 trailers, you just know it's going to be good - even if the story is a let down, or AI isn't up to scratch, or whatever, it's still going to be a great game :D One thing i was trying to figure out is how large it is, i've read "50 square km" and i'm trying to figure out how big that is in comparison to, say, Oblivion. . .
fc2 video looks really promising.
