WayTronX: OCZ HydroJet

WaytronX is the company behind the Hydrojet produced by OCZ Technology. They have a suite at one of the hotels on the strip, showing off not only the Hyrdrojet cooler, but an up and running system with two ATI cards cooled by the large cooler as well. The unit should be able to handle 400-600W of total heat. One of the key ingredients to this cooler is its directional carbon baseplate. This allows much more efficient heat transfer than a traditional copper base. The carbon is quite strong and will not wear away over time. As the following pictures show, the graphic cards - may they be AMD or NVIDIA parts - can easily be cooled by simply extending the loop for the coolant to flow through. This way you could simply attach a third or fourth video card to the setup, without having to take apart the entire unit and eliminate any large loop or longer tubing. The pictures below show the cooler and the setup in all its glory.

OCZ has signed an initial order for 5,000 pieces with WayTronX. WayTronX does not product the product themselves but is a pure technology company that engineers and develops a product and licenses it to other companies.

Another interesting cooler, built on the same technology, has been created for seperate graphic cards. The unit below cools a ATI Radeon HD 3870. It is quite massive, but allows for very low temperatures in a closed and completely isolated cooling system. The entire unit is powered through a Molex connector, plugged into the power supply. This is necessary because the fan control output on the graphics card changes the output voltage, but the pump needs a constant 12V supply for operation.

Looks just crazy, I hope it will perform well. If it will perform well I think it will be a winner, if not it's just too ugly to put in your case.

Unobtanium backplates will be offered in the near future.:D
My guess is that these either will have or should have a plate that mounts to the MB tray like we use with the dual socket boards with xeons.
The stock intel copper HS weigh in at over 2lbs each and with the plate there's no problem.

the weight of the hydrojet is bending the board when its mounted on just the mobo case standoffs without being screwed into a case...

That is sick looking, but im tired of hearing about all of this stuff in theory. Unless we can get our hands on somthing asap, this has already lost interest.

Don't think I want to know what that GPU unit is going to cost. Full cover waterblock, plus what looks very much like a Laing pump unit, plus the radiator assembly... bleh.

in that first picture thats two nvidia cards, they are 8800gts's. The picture of the gpu cooler is on a 2900 not a 3870. Either way its kinda cool but i doubt it'll beat out any high end watercooling.

I'm a big fan of OCZ's hardware, but I don't see their recent cooling endeavors going anywhere. They've been "coming soon" for so long, I'm beginning to believe they're being delayed repeatedly because of failure to meet specifications.

If they ever do come out with this or the cryo-z (which was "ready to ship" months ago) I'll be interested to see how they do. But I've seen nothing but empty claims and the occasional pic (which conveniently never includes proof of performance).

Again, not to hate on OCZ... but I've got no reason to believe their cooling stuff will work out as originally boasted.

I'm giving up on cooling. I hired a team of gnomes to wave cold air over my CPU/GPU heatsinks using stolen underpants. They work for dryer leftovers.

LOL@ this thread... I did a search and there's been speculations posted on this device a lot... but nothing concrete. When a company like Intel announces a product line, you pretty much know it's going to hit the market. When a small company does it.. it's a case of "your guess is as good as mine".

Look at it this way:
The top air coolers with a decent fan are app $75-80 here in the US.
If this item can't out perform them and is retailed at app $100.00 as we've heard, it would have no "spot" in the market place.
I doubt the people at OCZ haven't considered this.
My guess is that it will substantially out do any air cooled parts and is aimed at a market segment that wants the effectiveness of water cooling but not the hastle of doing a radiator,pump install.

Patience my friend. New tech,probably bumps in the road on getting it to market but just the fact that they are still on the project tells me that they will bring it out. You don't spend this much time and $$ and then do nothing.

Are we reading the same article? I do not see OCZ in any of those pictures. If I read right, this was all in the WaytronX suite at CES.... so why all the BS and whining about OCZ in this thread? :rolleyes:

LL PC76, SM SC750A and my SM cube..
The PC76 has a TRUE on a P5K Premium and a good 2.5" left before hitting the side would be an issue.:D

considering these are still prototypes with the plastic parts still coming from a 3D printer, id say we are a bit away from teh release date.

Was pushing the limits ;) I'm genuinely interested in this product as it looks like a very interesting concept but I hope to all things water-cooled that there isn't any aluminum in the actual waterloop. I'd love to seriously review one, couple the CPU heatsink with a northbridge and PWM loop and it could be a convenient solution for those warmer days.

I for one am thankful if they recalled the launch because of some fatal flaw. Smaller companies have to have perfect launches. Better to not have launched at all if there was something wrong.

And @ Ryder, isn't the term HydroJet an OCZ trademark? That makes this an OCZ product even without the stickers on it :D

A single DDC can power an entire rig, using a DDC for each component
is way overkill. A smaller pump (both in physical size and performance)
would be more than enough.

I agree here, the attached DDC, that surprised me.

I think the attached DDC is only for the gpu only solution, if you look at the setup with the CPU+GPU they only have full blocks on them, no DDCs, whereas that 36 slot solution has its own pump

Then you'd see that I saw those were just simple full-cover blocks that were
added to the loop (extension was the word I used). What I said was that
adding a DDC to single graphics card is overkill, as a single DDC can take an
entire loop. A smaller pump could also handle a single graphics card, and
maybe it could trim the size down by a slot (and the weight also).

problem with going smaller is reliability is probably not the same

lol i know some will jump down my throat for saying that but i think DDC pumps are reliable pumps considering how many manufacturers use them ;)

the fact you see some dying out of soooo many out there is skewing your perception of reliability :)

The CPU cooling unit might be nice, having the possibility to cool the video cards too. That is a very compact cooling solution in case the performance is right. Now the GPU only cooler looks a little weird to me. It uses copper heatpipes and alu fins in combination with a fan. How is that cooler different from a ordinary hybrid air/watercooler? It needs at least 4 slots from what it looks like and I have no idea how they think it will fit into the first PCI-E-x16 slot of a modern mainboard without hitting the NB cooler or memory with huge heatspreaders. It would be interesting to see some numbers. The product is definately not in a alpha state, so what are they waiting for?

They obviously had a running system and according to their website that cooler can handle 400 Watt of heatload and is the most advanced cooler of this planet, so it's surprising, that there are still no information about any numbers :/

There is the Cryo-Z again. Will it be bundled with Duke Nukem Forever? It would be ironic if you would show it at Cebit when the unit is meant to be released in the US only.

Its USA only, I have said this so many times im bored of saying it.

Cryo-z will not have a 220V compressor and will NOT be on sale anywhere else than the USA.

The unit may be able to cope with 400W heatload, that does not mean it does it in a way that we feel is good or bad though, products are shown during development to keep interest alive and show that companies are trying to push technology forward.

No numbers as its not final...simple as that.

Is the Hydrojet also US-only?
I thought the merger with PCP&C was to make a statement of worldwide availability of your products, but that's not really reflecting in this move..Certainly not if your also holing the Hydrojet back for US. I know for sure with an added price of the compressor-swap people would still get the Cryo-Z in the EU and Asia..

Hydrojet will be for world wide sale, I never said it would be for USA only. Only product USA only is Cryo-Z as it has 110V compressors.

Regards why Cryo-z will be usa only I will have news when the office release me to inform you.

I will have news soon I promise on Cryo-Z, Hydrojet is still in development but will be available for world wide sales.

To clarify, is it (Cryo) USA only because of 110v? I'd be pleased to test one on the 110v lines in Canuckistan to see if it might work on our antique power grid :D

And yes there are marketing benefits to increasing hype, I agree. But timing is everything and this is basically teasing a bunch of slavering wolves with a raw side of beef. Now me, I'm all for waiting until your engineering teams say it's good to go. Rushing to market never works out somehow either for manufacturing or marketing.

I can't say I blame OCZ for keeping their cards close to their vests. If they start to build expectations with regard to market dates they risk killing the buzz with possible unforeseen delays. But they do need to trot it out ever once in while to keep the fickle enthusiast community attentions, without teasing them to the point of frustration. If this thread is any indication, its a tough balancing act. :D

I don't mind waiting and will play with other cooling solutions in the meantime. Still keeping my Cyro money handy and will try the Hydrojet when they figure out the production and marketing angles. :yepp:

K tony it's clear, any ETA's you can let go on the Hydrojet? And will OCZ sell the version which enables the loop with the gfx's as shown in the TS? (I know it's in development still but maybe the decision is already made) Or just the CPU-only version?
