SLI Bridge in SkullTrail box sure of SLI on Intel Platform

Today i received some sample from my boss it's intel V8 SkullTrail and after open that box i met SLI-Bridge is together with some bundled as sure for SkullTrail will support SLI, So i knew everyone to know is SkullTrail it support SLI and Xfire but i think this's one point for make sure is it really support :p:

umm...we already knew SkullTrail supported SLI because it has NVIDIA NF100 bridge chips on it to enable SLI ;)

omg...how much will this board cost and must it really need 2 proc to operate it? can the proc be hybrid like 1 q9550+q9450?

Only two connectors on the SLi bridge not 3 so it makes me wonder if nvidia are going to allow tri SLi on more than one or two top end cards and then allow Intel to do dual SLi on more than skulltrail so everyone gets to do Sli but only nvidia do triple SLi?

Or am I just having wishful thinking again?

yes, but you would be using half the available memory bandwidth of the 4 channel controller, and it will perform worse then a normal S775 board and not overclock as well.

I believe so, but even then it will still be slower and less overclockable then a comparable single socket platform. The power of these machines stems from the large ammount of stable computational bandwidth, you effectively cut that in half by only useing one socket. Each socket alone is somewhat less speedy then a single socket platform, mostly due to the need to buffer all memory transactions, but together they add up.

SkullTrail is socket 771, meaning only socket 771 Xeons will work.

Oh and another thing - can this support Quad-SLI with dual-slot coolers (aka GTX/Ultra/GX2)? I though it was supposed to but I don't see how it could fit. :shrug:

Got a total power draw measurement on that rig you posted?

I can see this being just as popular as the 2-way AMD board. Which isn't very. There just wont be a demand for it, especially when people see how much this board costs, which is probably going to be like 600+$.

These platforms are pretty much just like concept cars.

The AMD 4x4 wasn't popular because it ran hot, used way too much power, and didn't even perform as well as a Q6600.

SkullTrail, however, kicks ass and is very power efficient. Remember it uses server derived CPUs ;) :yepp:

Like any extreme product, it does have a price premium on it. That's the target market though. The guy or girl who always wants the absolute fastest there is.

Maybe...the difference between this and QuadFX was that QuadFX was not nearly the most powerful system around (unless you measured at the wall)...Intel single-CPU Quads were equal or better in just about every metric (in some cases being significantly better--especially at max OCs).

This uses the best processor on the market--a 3.2GHz Yorkfield. And two of them...

But if your going to drop this much on a system, you must be using heavily multi-threaded apps.

Which it would then probably work out cheaper to do a 4way quad opteron system.

There is already 2-way amd server boards that have SLI support.

What I'm trying to say is this makes no sense for almost any app most people here use.

And if it DOES make sense and someone needs the power, they are better off with a 4-way AMD setup.

Did your ECC DDR2 Ram Heat up?

It may seem excessive, especially with Nehalem around the corner, but if someone chooses to get it, then there's no problem with them buying it.

Most of us are fine with dual and quad core, but there are some that hunger for more.

If I had the money, I would seriously consider buying SkullTrail, but one thing would stop me from buying it. It's a dead end. Nehalem introduces a new CPU socket, FB-DIMMs are being replaced with registered DDR3. Of course I could upgrade the GPUs, but it's not a whole lot of fun when the CPUs are out of date.

So, alas, my opinion is, if I had the money, I'd wait until the Nehalem dual socket extreme platform.

With Nehalem being right around the corner, I'm trying to not overspend on my new build, due to it being replaced in a short period of time ;)

it about 9000point on 4GHz :up: and overall mark by 88UT-SLI on default clock

lol I think it is generally taken that 'around the corner' means we are already midway through the current generation and the next generation is rumored to launch soon (months). I recommended people to wait on their CPU purchases starting in Nov/Dec. At that point in time, Penryn was around the corner. Nehalem..maybe next November lol? :p:

I hope you are going to enjoy Skulltrail, as much as we enjoyed developing it.
Couple of advises, 1st, if you don t have chillers, avoid touching the voltage offset (the extra 0.3Volts), the default voltage can go up to 1.6volts, and that is plenty for Water cooling.

Remember, you are using the processors out of specs, do it gradually, and no big jump in voltage between tries. As I promissed when we started the project, we putted enough juice in the voltage regulators, between the CPU and the Voltage Reg, the winner will always be the VR, so use it carefully.

I know that many of you are preparing some pretty insane scores with SKT, let s all have fun with it the day of launch ... let's hold the scores back for a little more :)

The cheap dual socket boards are going to be based on the San Clemente chipset or 5100 chipset. they support somewhat easier to come by ECC DDR2 memory. You most likely won't find any overclocking options on any iterations of those boards.
