is oc horrible, like in previous builds?

I am trying it.
So far, it looks like the "leacked" 1401 ones... I don't see any difference :(

I dont want to eb the dumb one o-0 but where is the new bios 1401?
been reading a thread about the striker extreme i was shown as i am about to learn and oc mine for the 1st time :)
So what is the take on this BIOS?
Let's hear some stories................
No improvements (actually worse) over either 1303 or 1305 for me. I flashed back, even with an X-Fi running here.
DO NOT USE THIS BIOS!!!
It's garbage. I flashed my system with it from the 1303 that I was previously running and when it rebooted after flashing, my PC would reset every 5 seconds and could not get back into the bios to flash it with another ROM.
I pretty much thought the flash failed and my board was toast but after about 2 hours of trying to get the bios settings back to default, I was able to re-flash.
Even after finally getting the CMOS to reset, i could not get the 1401 bios to boot past the initial vista loading screen.
Well.... I'm back running 1303 and happy. I'm not going to be another guinea pig for Asus's crappy bios releases. With all the crap I had to deal with to get my PC back up and running again... it's just not worth it.
Bios 1501 is unofficially available on a german forum, flash is at own risk, yorkfield seems to run even at 400FSB on the Striker Extreme... I charged the bios I'll put it on my ftp this afternoon, though yet again flash at own risk as it's not an official beta...
I have installed the 1401 on my system.
and so far all is well.
E6850 @ 3.6 w/ RAM at 1:1 with 5-5-5-15.
I have the G.Skill, but I was getting occasional/random lockups when running RAM at 1000Mhz. I have to wonder if thats becuase the G.Skill wants the tRC timing set to 45, but the Asus board will only provide up to a 30........
But, 1401 is up, and running like a champ on this system (for now)
I'm using the 1401 bios linked above and can't get over 420Mhz FSB with my new E8400. Looks like this CPU isn't officially supported either, works but says I need to update my bios to obtain full performance from my CPU. I wish Asus would just release an official 45nm bios, even if it is just dual core.
It's always 6 whenever I look at it in the bios. I can however change it to 9 but it will only stick if I enable Intel Speedstep Technologoy (I think that's what it's called).
So fun running at 3780 at 1.4v on air I can run everything I want and it's stable but even with a lower multi I can't get the fsb any higher.
Went from 1303 up to 1401. It seems decent. My previous settings were
CPU: E6600 @ 3.6 400x9 and ram 800 - 4-4-4-10-1t.
Would not boot at those settings regardless of what I do. Keep getting IDE DET.
went to defaults boot just fine. So I bumped the FSB to 450 (450x8), ram at 900 4-4-4-10-1t still and it booted but when it gets to Xp boot screen it crapped out and showed all kinds of funny colors. Rebooted and bumped NB voltage from 1.4 to 1.5 and seems to have fixed the problem. Running Orthos right now for stability. So far so good.
It also allowed me to boot with my Razer Tarantula keyboard plugged in. Before on 1303, I had to unplug my keyboard till it gets into windows or it'll get a USB something error on the lcd in the rear. 1305 would reboot as soon as I plug in my keyboard regardless if I'm in windows or not. So far, not sure why it won't run @ 1600 fsb but 1800 seems just fine.
BleuAqua - how you managed a 9x multi? And what bios are you using?
With 1401 I could change the multiplier and it would stay if Intel Speedstep Technology was enabled(this doesn't make any sense to me), but it worked.
Max FSB I could reach with 1401 was 420, anything over that it wouldn't even post. I tried 1501 sent to me by a good friend and it has worked absolute magic for me on wolfdale. Max overclock before of 3780 is now 4410 or so with a max FSB of ~515. I am really impressed with how well 1501 works, the multiplier option is in a different spot and works great for me, flawless actually. This brings new life for my Striker.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...eAqua/4409.jpg
is 1501 stable? I heard someone has problem with stability, some bsods and problems ...
I was expecting some hickups but surprisingly enough it's been wonderful for me on my Wolfdale. I can't say anything for quad or Yorkfields specifically but I could try my QX6700. It's funny, I've never had as good of success with any other bios like I've had with 1501.
Is it worth it to go from 1305 with an E6850 (1600 FSB / 1000 RAM) to the 1401 or 1502 bios? I do have an X-FI Fatal1ty but havent noticed any problems with it (unless thats what caused my random cod4 freeze, but i thought that was heat cause opened the cold window then its fine)..
I would love to push the chip farther but i dont think i can.
anyone tried 1401 or 1501 with kentsfield yet?? if so, what your max fsb??
Just wondering if anybody has been brave enough to update their bios considering last time I checked 1303 was considered the most overclocking stable? Specifically would like to hear from those with the creative X-Fi and onboard sound enabled Over-Clockers?
Cheers, Optical10
where can i find the 1501 bios
http://users.pandora.be/OAP2/1501.zip
Flash at own risk !!
Blue Aqua,
did you happen to get a changelog with that 1501 BIOS?
1401 and below dont really support wolfdales since i wasnt able to use any multi besides 6. When multi 9 manages to boot, after every system restart its reset to 6 again.. My striker is of the very first revision aswell.
With 1501 alpha im atleast able to use the processor with all multis , including 9.5. Im having a very hard time being stable at anything above ~420 fsb thou, tried every divider and voltages... im stuck at ~4ghz stable with 1.28volts. I think ive got a good E8500 here but the board is holding me back for now.
Gonna hope they come up with some bioses fast, i need this board to last me until x48 hits the market.
Also bear in mind that there are problems with SLI and 1501 (i didnt test myself since i sold my other gtx) also theres some bug in this bios that you cant flash back to older bios versions. For me its a keeper until newer versions since i cant really use my E8500 with any other bios availible atm.
ACS I have a very similar setup to yours Bios 1401  I am experiencing the same problem with the E8400, multi reverts to 6. Error message "An unknown processor has been detected a new bios update is required to unleash it full power" It categorically states on the Asus website that the Striker supports 45nm cpu's so which one are they talking about?
I'm a bit wary of the 1501 Bios as I was considering SLI......anyone have any idea of when an official BIOS update is due?
Well iirc the striker had 45nm sticked on asus site but recently it was removed from here: http://event.asus.com/mb/45nm/
Dunno what theyre on about tbh... About the official bios i guess only someone with inside info can tell but judging on 1501alpha i suppose they should be making it availible as beta pretty soon..
New alpha build is done, for today called 1503. Major fix list below. OC capabilities - i do not have enough time to check it atm, maybe at end of the week.

01.Fixed Ati680 VGA with class 0380(before VGA 0300) can't display.
02.Modified setup help strings to Press [Enter] to set
03.Update ROMSIP table at default FSB
04.Fixed system hang 25 if SLI mode Graphic card install.
(Root cause:Too many IO resources wasted if IO wrap around to 400h, result in system hang.)
05.Show "EN SETUP" when entering setup menu.
06.Show LCD POSTER for NVMM initialization.
This is good news:)
Thanks PMP
Any news about a new public beta or smth? If anyone has some new alpha or beta (other then 1501) please PM me im willing to test anything. Especially now when x48 got delayed once again im stuck with the striker and i need a bios with better wolfdale support:)
Same here, I would like to try a new BIOS >1501 Alpha or Beta does not matter, just to test it.
Can I use 1501 BIOS for P5N32-E SLI (680i) ??
http://www.uploadhut.com/id189060/1502.zip
they took to bloody long to activate my account here..damn it
u kno how long i wanted to give u guys that BIOS..
directly from Asus themselves..seems u gotta email them to get it
it supports and fixes all your e8XXX needs..not the quads just yet, and also doesnt support SLi..
enjoy clockin those babies !
btw..if u googled it..u would of seen people from guru3d with it as well!
Cheers!
Thanks man, ive been googling it but it was just people using it and no links. Ive got a mail to asus a few days back aswell but no answer yet... im hoping for 1503 from them. Will check 1502 when i get home from work.
People talk about a completed 1503 but no one seems to have it. I have had my E8400 for 2 weeks now and also have SLI, so no need to upgrade my system until (I Hope) 1503 is released.
Does anyone have any specific info about when the next release will happen.
Their response to support for the E8400
Hello,
Currently, that CPU is still unsupported by the Striker Extreme BIOS. When a BIOS release is available that will allow you to run that CPU it will be posted on the support page, but we are not given a timetable by our engineering department on when we can expect it. The best advice I can offer is to keep checking at http://support.asus.com for any new release.
Same here, i bought a e8500 but i can't mount it yet because i need a working bios for my SLI config. I wish pmp would give us a link to download it. Btw i'm new here, how did he get it ? He seems to be some kind of guru in this forum :)Quote:

I'm seriously thinking of selling that extra 8800 Ultra and buying a P5E instead and get i.e 4.5Ghz easily in place of a hardly supposed 4ghz on striker. Plus i don't see that many games that support SLI very well, even though i have a 30' inch screen and that the performance increase is obvious when it works. What do you guys think ? Would it be worth it ?
So far 1502 is definite keeper over 1501, i managed to get 4100 prime stable and thats what im gonna use for 24/7. With 1501 my max prime stable was 3800, 4g and over were unstable. Just dont flash this if you intend to use sli cause i heard it cant even post with 2 cards.
This is with 1.37v measured with multimeter, vdroop pencil mod. Im happy for now, gonna test more during the weekend for max clocks
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u268/acsbg/4100.jpg
The Striker Extreme has it listed on the box that it supports 45nm processors. This is one of the reasons I purchased the MB and also to overclock. I should have purchased the EVGA board, they already released an BIOS upgrade that works.
so no word on the 1503 PMP??
dude...right now..i feel to fly my board out of this window and get a 780i.. but that end in resulting no SLi for me..damn u ASUS !!!!
I think Asus have put this BIOS development as low priority due to the sheer volume of boards they support. On the other hand I think it is just taking time to tweak the BIOS and that they will make it avavilable as soon as it's "cooked". Wolfdale may not provide a vast amount of performance difference anyways......funny how they have removed the 45nm support from their website though........
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...39&modelmenu=1
Still says 'Support 45nm'.
First a DOA S2F, rma in progress, now a SE that won't let me set the multiplier to 9 on a E8400.
I wouldn't have a leg to stand on, but there IS a sticker on the box that says 45nm supported, am I wrong to expect it to work as advertised?
Asus, you were the manufacturer of the first motherboard I ever bought, back in 1999, and I feel a certain amount of loyalty, but your credibility is dropping.
Get on it.
Did PMP leave us flat? I was hoping he would hook us up with the 1503. Last I heard Asus is on a Chinese holiday and won't be back until the 20th.
PMP, oh where art thou??????
I have 1503 but haven't tested it yet so update at your own risk.

Now I'm torn between using the 1503 or 1502.. I wonder what's the difference between the two and the previous 1502 alpha (if there's any)....
Right, now which one should we use for SLI ? Has the SE1502 been fixed ?
There are reports in the Asus forum that SLI in 1503 is working.... I can't test it in this system yet my other card isn't here :P
Asus is really playing games on us...... I'm at the brink of selling this mobo..
Bioses are like Buses you wait ages then two come along lol i have a back up Bios chip courtesy http://bios-repair.co.uk/about.htm so I can play chicken!
Yay! Good for you! But I'm not flashing my BIOS yet. RMAing this part of the world on Asus is effed! It's a wait and see for me at the moment.... see who gets a successful flash first - or a dead one... lolz!
At www.hardwareluxx.de peeps are confirming 1503 fixed the SLI issue and the bios is clocking well with E8xx series... I'll have a Striker board to mess with in the coming weeks ( go go Gizmo ) I'll flash then and see what it can do with quads... ( q6600 and qx9650 )

1502 doesn't support SLI and 1503 supports and corrects a few other thigs I can't remember. I will be flashing this weekend, don't get excited, I am talking about my BIOS.
1502 is official release, will be in few hours/days on official webpage ... i am sure SLI works great with this 1502 build ...
1502 From asus ftp = SLI doesnt work :(
1503 =>SLI finally works!!! Intel E8500 works
but temp is idle 55° wich is not normal i guess.Anyone the same issue?
What can i do?
Prolly ignore it and let it be read out via coretemp or such utilities...
can anyone confirm if they can flash back to older BIOS say 1401 or 1303 after flashing to either of these 150x? Thanks!
you can't from 1501 hence my new Bios chip :P I had read on another forum that it was possible but I wasn't able to!
yes, u can go bake to older BIOS just use the Dos flash program and the command /f .
ex: flash.exe /f1401.bin
kewl I only found this out the other day; I tried the from file method and got the message " No turning back now sukka" I eventually bought another BIOS chip from grains he also reflashed the original. At least I can experiment now in the knowledge I have backup lol Bit like buying a gigabyte board
!503 works good. I have an E8400 with SLI. I have clocked from 3.0 to 4.0 with just FSB change. It will go higher but experienced some tearing on benchmarks. I will burn it in awhile and try to push it.
Bottome line 1503 works well with SLI.
any fsb issues with alpha 1503 ?
i will flash on weekend to 1503 .. cuz trying to get a stable fsb above > 500.
currently i stuck on ~ 472Mhz .. on bios 1303 .. (bios 1305 sh*t .. 1401 sh*t)

1. Fixed system cannot display with Ati680 VGA with class 0380 (before VGA 0300)
2. Fixed system may hang at POST with dual SLI capable Graphic card installed due to over wasting of IO resource.
3. Add new LCD POSTER string "EN SETUP" when entering setup menu.
anyone had a chance to overclock with 1503 around the 3-3.2 mark.
at the mo im stuck at 2.92, 2.8 (q6600 G0) & was unstable but 2.92 is solid as a rock with 1401, any bios below that and the pc wouldnt do a windows restart without hanging before POST
i think the 1401 x-fi fix solved that, hence me not wanting to go back to 1301 or 1303 to hit 3ghz with 333fsb
i keep hearing abou this 8x multi and 400fsb to get 3.2 but the pooters never POSTed at those settings.
will 1503 do the trick ?
my voltages compare to most hitting 3.6ghz and i have not backed them off yet as im enjoying the stability
1503 has let me boot at 3ghz with 1333 fsb, running prime and 3dmark without a crash yet so its better than 1401 as i couldnt post at 1333
no post at 1600fsb with a 8x multi tho
i decided to go for it now the bios is showing on the asus website.
i got a hardware fail at 3ghz :(
I'm doin some tests here. With BIOS 150 memory never went above ddr2 800 unless sli-ready was enabled. Now with newer 1504 I can boot prime stable @ 3600MHz and 1.25v with a E8400 here.
No stability with anything over 400~405fsb though no matter how much voltage I kick'd in. Tried 1.4v for vcore and up to 1.6v at the NB with no success. It might be an FSB hole like I had with my E6400 but even @ 420fsb i have no success. Waiting for a newer bios now.
To see setup w/ pics (no pics on the overclockin' part yet) see lab.gamer.com.br
Complete config:
Striker extreme
E8400
Seventeam ST750EAJ (sli ready - powered up 2 GTX with it)
2x 8800GT
2x1Gb OCZ DDR2 900 SLI Edition (4-4-3-15)
& stuff...
Any suggestions?? Aiming for 4.0GHz.
FSB hole means a no post, if it posts it isn't an FSB hole it's just insufficient settings...
Does it post or not ? at 405 ? if I was you I would try straigh to 425 or 450 FSB and run the ram at 1:1 so for 450FSB set ram at 900mhz...
I'm in the middle of a build so I can't test the striker with the E8400 I'm hoping for 4.0Ghz with SLI so this is a trifle disconcerting. I am loathe to buy another board but it's looking that way. leeghoofd weren't you going to revive an old striker? Malk4vi4n can I have the 1504 BIOS please.
Just heard from Ice_Chiney he has his E8400 stable at 4.0ghz @1.43v.......... it's doable on da striker with 1503 :)
I still haven't got it Radcom .. it was from a forum member GizmoSLI, he shipped it about 20 days ago from Iraq, Board is not here yet, and really doubting if it will ever arrive...
I got the old board from Gizmo, a bit beaten up by it's travel from Iraq to Belgium but the board posted immediately out of the box... with an E6300... I redid the heatpipe with fresh TIM and popped in the Q6600... 1305 wasn't very cooperative so I flashed straight to 1503... 400FSB Q6600 works nicely though I'm limited there with cooling ( used my Qx9650 cooler at max speed ) though it cannot keep the CPU below 65°C at 3.6Ghz so I limited my test at 3.2Ghz... OCCT stable for 2 runs in a row...
http://users.pandora.be/OAP/Q6600SE2.JPG
Keeping ram in sync and at 2T needs less NB voltage... I wonder what it will do with the E8400...

PMP, are you still watching this thread?
Do you know anything about new BIOS revisions?
Tesqted the Striker with a Wolfdale E8400 today.. also I replaced that dreadfull heatpipe with thermalright solutions as they seem to cool way better than that wannabe copper thing...
