QX9650 RETAIL first look...

Yep......I just got a birthday present yesterday.... Thanks.... :D

Once again I was lucky..... :D

Heatsink is huge and very light... :)

....and here are some fast tests on the ASUS P5E64 WS Pro which is just came too.... ;)

Motherboard is DEFAULT....MAX cpu-z on air is ~4930MHz....
This CPU likes high VCore and can handle it.... ;)

VGA used an NVIDIA 8800GTS ~ 650/950 if I remember well....

3DMark2006 on AIR does ~4700MHz..... :D :p:

That's for now....I hope it does well under LN2.... :)
ON AIR it's about 100MHz more than the ES I have tested....:D

since it's a retail one, is there any chance to place the motherboard in a normal, closed, retail case with normal, retail aircooling, that any normal, retail human being will be able to withstand?

Propably will be good for about 4500MHz on air in a case for 24/7 and lower VCore.... ;)

Don't worry mrlobber, I can bench the ES at 5870MHz for Super-Pi 1M.... ;)
ALSO LN2 for this one I will test tomorrow (and I hope it does well)... :)

Looks like a much better cpu than my QX9650 L739A644 (wafter number 073 instead of your 600) maxing out at 4000-4200Mhz at 1.4-1.6+ vcore on air/water http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=166849 heh

George.....People are trying to find a stepping that is "good" for others......This is a BIG MISTAKE as I have stated in another thread.... ;) TWO IDENTICALS X6800s, one did 5420MHz 3D and the other did 5050MHz 3D...IDENTICALS EXCEPT those "secret" numbers on their PCB's which people NEVER look on.....THIS is the "secret" of finding the "good" CPU.....at least as I have observed for many years since now ;)

The PCB nujmber is not always a good indication though. I just got two reatil chips, same week and batch as yours, with considerable lower PCB number. One was 0036, and the other one was 0361. The O361 was actually a lot better on LN2, while the 0036 was way better on air.. I can do SP 1M at approx 5,8GHz on "only" 1,9 V. So it will be exciting to see what it will do on 2V+... gotta stay in style.....event though my last ES got pretty toasted at 2,175V...

Hope it work's out good for you george , last one's i've tested did 4800 air but had coldboot at -30 and coldbug at -100 ......:(

The one that did 4400 air could boot at -89 and coldbug at -140.....
hope its not related to that....good air chip = bad cold chip ....;)

edit:
Yorkfield seems to go higher clocks on a ddr3 board, maybe because of the loose timings, did you test it on ddr2 board too?

I'm shocked how great these quads clocks on air. Hope wolfdales with high enough multi (E8400 & E8500) will do similiar clock results.

Good Luck, hipro5. Vince and I test a lot of this batch retail cpus(maybe 20+pcs). ALL have cold bug between -110~-130, but some chips are great under -110 5.6~5.7G 3D06. If this batch has no bug on -120,no doubt, it would be 5.8G 3D.:)

To be honest, I don't realy care about Super-Pi bench....I just bench it to see how high a CPU can bench and that's it.... I care about 3Ds.... ;)
IF this CPU can do high for Super-Pi, it's OK with me....IF not, it's OK too.....BUT I want to bench 3Ds high..... :)

How tight does a specific week and batch of CPUs usually end up benching similar? I know people will go ape :banana::banana::banana::banana: over a certain week and batch but is it really that close?

Tested under LN2 today and I spent 25 litters of it to find out where it goes, how it does, etc.... :(

It DOESN'T have a "Cold boot problem" AT ALL (Maybe it's the new ASUS Blitz Extreme's bios).... ;) :)

PROBLEM is it cold bugs at -115*C and it's a pain in the arss to bench it with that low difference from idle to load.... :(

The 2k1 bench, I ran it lower coz I didn't wanted to loose it due to that had ONLY 3 litters of LN2 left....I'll rebench it tomorrow... :)

Yes NO cold boot problem at all even at -120*C......VCore real.....hmm, I haven't meassure it, but it should be around of what bios/cpu-z is showing....:)

Yes as it seems, this CPU was a "birthday present" coz it came here EXACLTY on my B-Day..... :D
Shaders......It's the XFX's Bios which has higher multi that others for the Shaders clocks..... ;)

It does 5.9GHz Super-Pi 1M, but I don't care (for the time been) for Super-Pi.... ;) Yes 2k1 is not maxed out yet... ;)
