ek fc 3870wb :)

Isn't Swiftech MCW60 supposed to fit HD3870?
if you havent bought one yet, i think they have compared the 8800gt to be 15% faster...
Yeah, But the 3870 is $90 less.
The 8800GT does have more advantages then it's gaming capabilities however.
not to hijack but any idea on whether a fuzion fits this?
they should be backwards compatible to the other blocks for radeons. if they fit the 1900/2900 they should be fine for the 3870.(gpu only, full cover is always a crapshoot with new cards).
Yeah, but the the 3870 has independent RAM and GPU heatsinks, so you only need a GPU WB, not a full cover.

I guess the mcw60 will fit.
Or go for an EK fullcover ^^
A+ for ATI atleast making the RAM heatsink separate from the GPU. Good idea and saves WC'ers some money.
Anyone know if a Maze4 would fit the 3870?
A Maze 4 should fit. If it fits a X1900 card, it should fit the 3870. Apparently the card is backwards compatible with coolers.
I love the independent ramsinks... Should be standard on all cards.
The 3870 is a better option for me, using a P35 board, if they do better work with their drivers for a Crossfire setup. If we read some good news on next reviews I'll get 2 3870 by Christmas and will do some Xfire tests here.
MCW-60 should work just fine.
I second the A+ to ATI for using seperate ramsinks. Saves me at least 30 bucks. Add that to the $90 price difference for the 8800GT, yeah....
And, even though it does have a performance deficit, I wonder how high it can clock on water... :slobber:
Yes, glad to see a manufacturer finally waking up and looking around to see what their customers are doing and adjusting to help out. Still prefer Nvidia though.
anyone has watercooled experience (oc, temps) with 3870's?
dude, hit this up http://www.frozencpu.com/products/20...tl=g30c105s520 MCW60-T . id say ud get to 925+ with that babe
nice of ati to use seperate ramsinks for their cards. like agent11 said it, "should be standard on all cards" hopefully Nvidia would get the hint...
Hello, all. It's me again and still have no decision about what the best performer waterblock for HD3870 :D
I really want to know how good Dtek Fuzion GFX compare to Swiftech MCW60 on 3870 and it's really give the light for me to make buying decions. Yes, Iam watercooling vga in separate loop from cpu. I'm thinking D-Tek DB-1 DC pump for vga loop, is that enough power? I know MCP655 is really good, but - imo - a little overkill for just vga loop.
If the GPU is on its own loop, I'd go for the MCW60 since it's a lot less restrictive than the Fuzion block and offers comparable performance. As for a pump, a DDC 3.2, D5 Vario, or the D-Tek pump you mentioned would be fine.
so has anyone used the mcw60 on these and have results?
I have.
Installed the MCW60 on my MSI (800/1220 default clocks) and I'm very pleased with the temps.
Idle : 24-25°C
Load : 30-31°C (3d06, Crysis, UT3, COD4)
GPU can go to approx. 875Mhz, haven't tested memory yet.
I used the normal backplate (4 holes with short mounting screws)that came with the block.
I don't know if Swiftech has changed the mounting parts for this block.
I have mine for quite some time now.
When's EK's block for 3870 coming out? Mine idles at 60C... 3850 that is...
hrmm
i've got 4 3870's here, anyone recommend a setup for me? i'm too noobish to know what to buy, but i'm willing to spend some money. :\ haha, ya i'm lame
I've got a lian-li 2100 full tower case. But honestly with my 1000W Coolmaster psu. There is little room.
I was thinking it'd be best to have an external pump/radiator.
pls post on your individual thread, i am sure there will be lots of solutions suggestions to your liking...
Will my FCR600s work?
Hey Guys, just curious for those of you using the mcw60 and the 3870.. are you guys seeing a tiny gap between the retail blocks with the preassembled 4 hole adapter plate and the gpu or are you guys using the 2900 kit?
I'm also wondering why there is a 2900 adapter plate in the first place as a maze4 fits a 2900xt and a 3870.. is it to resolve the issue with the gap?
Please see here to see what I'm talkin about:
http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcw60-r.asp#2
Look at the different adapter plates used with a 3870 vs the adapter plate used for a 2900xt
Here are a couple of pics of the card with MCW60 mounted :
Jupiter, are you running straight distilled water in your loop? Looks nice and clear.
1 liter distilled water with 2 drops of PT Nuke from Petra's.
Keeps the loop pretty much clear, noticed a little bit of staining after a few months (only a little bit though).
Tubing can be cleaned pretty easily though.
I only use that now these days, no more UV Dye additives.
here is a quick shot of my 3850's , not much room in a v-2000 when you use phase.

Jimmy, your pic is not coming out correctly. :)
Thanks again Juliper, you are awesome!
No problem. :)
Another vote for EK :D

just look... awesome as usual
Is the 3870 block compatible with the 3850, or should I just sell this too and get a 3870?
maze 4 fits fine, the picture a couple of posts up is mine with 2 maze blocks. and the 3870 and 3850 share the same hole pattern.
The 3850 and 3870 are physically different.
The EK 3850 and 3870 blocks are physically the same, with exception of the aluminum tail that covers the voltage regulators (?) at the back of the board.
If you can afford the 3870's, and (more importantly) can find them in stock, I'd go for it.
I snatched 3 x Sapphire 3870's for $249 each at Newegg recently.. and now they're not even listed anymore.
what do you guys think it is a better option:
- 2 3870 in crossfire on my P35 board for $ 500
or
- one new G92 8800GTS 512 MB for $360
I second this. I'm in the same predicament.
EDIT:
One thing I did notice, and this really reflects where technology is going, is that the two 3870s in crossfire uses less power than one G92 8800gts 512 mb. For me, its nice to not have as much load on the PSU.
I think for anything over 1600x1200, the crossfire set up is superior to the single G2 8800gts 512 mb.
It's hard to compare the 3870 sli to the 8800... the price difference is pretty huge. I'd say the nvidia, but it really depends on how much you want to spend. I'm pretty sure the 3870s will perform better... although I haven't seen a lot of reviews for either yet.
Semi-influential reason as to why I got the 3870... saved me $30 in Mem/mosfet heatsinks.
I would think that most semi-recently released GPU core blocks should fit. I personally went for the MCW-60, but will be finding out how well this performs this weekend. :)
The MCW60 performs very well on the 3870, trust me.
A few other full cover blocks coming up for the 3850 / 3870's:
Aqua Cooling Aquagratix RV670:
Not shown on their web site yet, but previewed here at another forum:
http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showpost...37&postcount=1
The Aquagratix RV670 appears to be fairly thin, thinner than the EK blocks.
Doesn't appear to have double-sided ports for Crossfire, though.
Koolance VID-387 & VID-385:
No pictures yet.

One thing you should consider about the P5K-E - the second PCIe x16 slot runs at 4x or 1x, not the full x16.
Also, the 3870's are PCI Express 2.0, and standard PCIe x16 is 1.x.
They'll clock down to the lower speed and work fine, but you may not get the best performance out of two 3870's with this board config.
Myself, I got the Maximus Extreme, which has 3 PCIe 2.0 slots, which run at x16 & x16, or x16, x8, and x8.
With an MCW60 on my 3870, I'm idling at 27c with a PA160 and DDC1 w/ top.
clocked at 891/1323
