Hi, i have a ES XQ9650 and last BIOS 1305 in Striker ... but i cant to change a multiplier ... if i set anything, after post bios says : Unknown model CPU, update BIOS ... and my multiplier is again only 6 ... i am not able to set higher ... where is solution?
It's a known issue.
You need a new BIOS.
Don't think it's publicly released yet.

Mail Asus directly... would be nice to see if the Penryns have less probs on the 680i then the Q6600 regarding FSB holes... (I hope you get a good tech on the other side otherwise you will just have to wait for it to pop up on the FTP...

Crystalcpuid doesnt work with the Asus Maximus Formula and Q9550 (ES) :(
try systool, or EIST tool.
EVEN BETA bios 1401 or ALFA 10081, can't unlock the multi x6 of the York.....I was told that this week, we may have a bios for that.... ;)
at least we are still getting some new biosses for our Striker, very good news :)

yep 412 and 417 also work, it's a known issue with the striker, we just will have to wait for a bios update for the Striker and as OBR and Hipro5 already have Yorkies, tests will follow shortly after the bios release
any new info about bios ...?

It's nice to see a Penryn work on the Striker Extreme, but you're running an Engineering Sample and these are known to work in some cases. Can you test with a retail Penryn, or will hipro5 do that?

Well i wouldn't call a QX Penryn really working at 6x multi or even 8x, there's still a long way to go for the 680i to be fully compatible... I think it's time to move on sadly....:mad:

It's not determined yet, if it would be possible to change multiplier for unlocked CPUs such as Extreme versions, right now i could not change it up neither down (9x for QX9650, or 8.5x for Q9550 - in this case, i.e. to 8x) (only 6x due to EIST/C1 do work... but who cares)

Are you sure QX9650 works at default clocks 9x333 at Striker Extreme? Where is the "6 multi only" bug? Where is a new BIOS from 28.11 (26.11 i already have), i want to test it ... because my expensive QX9650 sitting in the box one month and that is sucks ...

Yes we're sure that it works very reliable with 9x multiplier.
This week probably it would touch the sky with unlocked multi.

Just wanted to bump to see if anyone has any news on the 1401 bios, (ie, estimated release date et al). Been holding off some swaping of components/rebuilding on it (assuming it works that is. ;) )

Hello everyone today I tried a version of BIOS 1401 build 28/12/2007 available on the site ftp.asus.com.tw yorkfield but is not yet supported strange as ever in beta 28/11 and 18/12 worked with a multipler 9?

Why so low frequencies with this BIOS build 1502? I go with 1401 28/12 9x multiplier with EIST enable to 3621! Mhz! with FSB 1610 Mhz and 10x multiplier 4016 Mhz 1610 FSB mhz and more... in test
But when this build be available to the public?

CPU INIT displayed on LCD poster is kinda useless, cause it's more than 15 different codes. However, could he check ANY other CPU ?
What is possible, is just LGA socket damage. I've seen several boards with damaged CPU socket, which were not able to run any other CPU. This damage was caused due to excessive heat, quite possible with Kentsfield's.
Clean LGA pins, put Yorkie, fasten socket and try to run without cooler. From technical sense, any BIOS from 1305 would start with Yorkie (ofc limited) anyway.
Yep my thoughts exactly sir though his E6600 now in the board runs fine, he's on 1303 bios... I'll let him reupdate to 1305... and maybe leave battery out to make sure the bios resets correctly ?
