The last RV630, 65 nanometre based card is Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory. We still don't know the exact clock speeds but we believe that DAAMIT still has to make its mind up.

In the entry level ATI plans to launch three HD 2400 based card.

The top one is Radeon HD 2400 XT with 256MB of DDR2 memory. This card is based on RV610, 65 nanometre core. The second one is Radeon HD 2400 Pro again with 256MB of DDR2 memory and based on RV610, 65 nanometre core.

The last but not the least one is Radeon HD 2400 PRO with 128MB of DDR2 memory. This card is also based on RV610, 65 nanometre core.

I can say right now that likeliness of HD 2900 PRO in 2007 is quite high...if only because Nvidia has also shown interest in a mainstream 256-bit card.

The crappy-ness that COULD happen? Dave Fart-On thinks that he doesn't need the HD 2600 to compete with the GTS and has the RV670 256-bit compete with 8600gts 128-bit X(

Or do you want one for all? We only have confirmed info on HD 2600 and below, along with HD 2900XT....no shader info on XL or PRO.

Basically the major differences are:

Thats actually wrong.

nVidias is 2+1, AMDs is 4+1.

So if HD2900 got 320 shaders, then 8800 got 384. Its a simply PR gimmick.

AMDs shaders are abit more advanced. So I guess that counters nVidias usual brute force lead.

So 64 vect5D shaders for the 2900.

Of cause its smart, cause with a huge 512Bit SI u dont need GDDR4, but with a small 128Bit SI u will.

X2900XTX overclock well even with their stock cooler... :D

8800GTX has 64TMU

but we cant compare the X2900 32TMUs with the 8800GTX 64 TMU´s , the X2900 TMU´s run with higher clocks

the x1900 also had less TMUs and in complex shader intensive games they had advantage , and the ratio in R600 is even higher , with x1900 the ratio was 3:1 , now with R600 the ratio is 4:1

i tihnk ROP/TMU all run at core speed, so yes R600 has advantage over G80s ... but shaders?? GTX runs at 1350MHz ...

Um. G80 is 2+1, but as mentioned millions of times, the +1 (MUL) is left to special function, and not general shading. R600 is 4+1. A better comparison is 256 vs 320; although those shaders in R600 will also have to do be special function...but perhaps more dynamically with less dedicated resources. G80's shader clock obviously does have a good bit to do with why it remains competitive. The same being true with R600's core clock and TMUs.

Ok. This is how I run it down. Simplistic and not completely scientific, but bear with me. Say a x2900xt is less powerful to a 8800GTX, but more-so than a GTS, which I think is where it will land. Some may think they will end up equal...Who knows. HD2600 has 37.5% the shaders of R600, and 8600gts 33% of the GTS, although with a slightly higher shader clock. Both have approx the same butchering of fractions of the higher-end parts concerning TMUs/Rops/bus. The difference remains in the clock speeds on the core/shader clock and total gflops.

R600 = 10flops (vec = 2 flops, scalar = 2 flops)x64x750 = 480Gflops
G80GTS = 3 (2 scalar+ 1 MUL) x1200x96 = 345.6
G80GTS = 3x128x1350= 518.4
8600GTS: 3x32x1450 = 139.2
HD2600XT?: 10x24x800? = 192

Notice the R600 compared to the 8800GTS and 8600gts versus the hypothetical HD2600 are almost exactly the same ratio apart (72-72.5%). Bandwidth is eerily similar on the lower-end parts as well. Coincidence? As Alex Cross would say, I don't believe in coincidences. The texture rate is also similar on R600 vs the GTS, although through different means. Strange eh?

As for the ram, all things being equal, I don't see how 128-bit parts could find usefulness in 512MB of ram.

TMUs: Yes, they do, but no, it doesn't. 575x64 > 750x32...yet strangely equal to GTS;or rather 500x48.

GTX runs at almost twice the shader clock, but has less active shaders because the mul is devoted to special functions. 256x1350 < 640x750. It comes down to efficiency of the competing architectures, and how much of R600's shader ops are used for special function.

Agreed. I personally even with a window mod on my old case, if I looked at the case for more than a few seconds? Sure might not look good but thats not its main purpose, its to do its job. Secondary can be how cool it looks.

Besides that as we all know, aftermark coolers are where its at for cooling anyways so you will eventually pick out your own if you choose to do so.

Doubt much in most cases. THe few it might help out a little but its not like we'll be seeing them, let alone fitting at least a stock one into our typical cases.

you don't have to but RAMsinks fall off and you need to use fans on top >> most people find it more conventient >> i have a MCW60 on the way and have some RAM sinks so i don't mind but not sure how other people are about this

ATI hasn't launched the R600 yet and it is already planning its next launch of a die shrinked version. It won't be launching the 1024 MB graphics card until Q3. It plans to launch the R650 chip and brand it as Radeon HD 2950XTX, 1024 MB GDDR4.

The chip is called R650 and it is a 65 nanometre core, how convenient. With this new chip ATI might have a fighting chance against the Geforce 8800 Ultra, but the real question is what will Nvidia have at that time.

The cards are scheduled for late Q3, so you should expect them to arrive in August or September, unless they get postponed.

G80 has 32TMUs, each with 2 Texture Filtering Units and 1 Texture Address Unit (2:1 ratio).
R600 will probably have 32TMUs with just 1 Texture Filtering Unit (1:1 ratio, jst like G84/G86).

ROPs are not really important. GeForce 6600 had only 4 ROPs against 6800Ultra with it's 16 ROPs and didn't show any weakness.

the pic of the card above on coolalers thread looks like a 1 gb card rather than a 512mb card as the ram chips are on both the underside and upperside

I'm looking at these cards from a crunchers point of view, as well as a gamers point of view. So I wonder if there'll be a platform out that lets us run these cards in crossfire with the upcoming AgenaFX S1207 CPUs (I dont see nVidia being too happy about crossfire working on their 680a chipset on the current QuadFX mobo). That way theres a lot of folding power in 1 box when FAH gets around to making a GPU client for the 2900s

For the 512bit interface, you need chips on both sides. So it may still be 512MB (not saying it is). Also, for 1GB they could be using denser chips.

I am glad the Hynix ram isn't going to be a problem. When I noticed that I thought we were going to get nerfed performance from not using Samsung ram.

Ye, you need 16 chips for 512bit, since there is no 64bit memory chips.

thanks ahmad i know that on mt x1900 they were only on one side

The 2900XT has one 6-pin and one 8-pin power connector on it. the 6-pin isnt a problem, but can anyone show me a power supply that can power two of the 2900XT cards? I haven't seen one that can three 8-pin cables plus two 6-pin cables (one for the motherboard, two for the graphics cards, plus the PCI-E 6-pin cables)

yes its weird the 8 pin power why not use a standard molex instead on that one i can't work out whats going on there

First the 8-Pin connectors are different from mobo to PCI-E.
Second not every mobo requires 8-Pin connection.

And there are dual 8-Pin PCI-E PSU's on the market they are the higher end 1000W PSU's.

The newly released Silverstone DA850 contains dual 8 pin and quad 6 pin pcie power connectors.
