Anyone want to bite?
Thanks for the heads up. I bit!
Use wizbunny coupon code for 5 bucks off.
whoa, i thought this wasn't going to be available for a few more weeks?
well thx :)
Cool... this also means the nF680i is very VERY close
do you guys think this is a better choice than a badaxe2?
i would let people test it :)
$145, eh? Not bad.
Thank you for the coupon. Was like $152 with shipping to NY but hey not bad.
The E4300 is going to love it (ewiz has OEM e4300's for $130 also)
I have been waiting for this board for a long time.
Damn I really want byte at this. I wish it had 8 and 8 config for Crossfire, vs 16x and 4 combo.
DIE eWiz DIE
$100 for shipping
Dinos forget about US stores shipping directly somewhere overseas. They will charge a lot for shipping + will insure and declare full value which means taxes for you
Oh, it will be only on the 20th in germany and will cost 150€. I pre-ordered already
where did you get this info ?
i got told something else... 11th
well here in portugal cost 169€uros but will arrive 11th (next week)
:toast:
yay coming on Tuesday
Hmm... price after shipping and that promo code here is $151.15 standard shipping =). Should I jump on this?
Fish, it looks like a solid board, and for the price, its not bad at all. I really thinking about. Its 160$ with tax for me(CA). For that price its right inline with all the other boards. Decent CF Support, but I am not sure about the Open-GL Drivers at this point, I am trying to find this out ATM.
Sweet. I want to find out a little more about this board. I know DFI's got some good service, and I've seen this board overclock (from the links in the DFI 965S thread). For the price, you really can't beat it. I might order today if I get enough info on it =).
Well I ordered one for 160$ shipped. Should have it by next week. Now to decide what PSU, CPU, and GPU.
Dude cancel your order and place it again this time with a E4300 from ewiz for $137.00 then the shipping will not seem so bad. It's an OEM CPU. Just login to your account it will show your orders and you can cancel before they even charge you.

I don't want a 4300, will be getting the new 6420 or the 6600 once prices drop.
Is the "S" version the best one to get?
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...-s&btnG=Search
go through froogle and it's $6 cheaper. :)
edit: unfortunately wizbunny code stops working
ohh wow thats not fair ...
I got an email from ewiz with my tracking number my order was shipped. To bad its UPS ground and the tracking number inst in the system yet.
Ordered the P965-S from ewiz today!!
Also ordered this from Newegg today:
eVGA 8800GTX
Corsair 620HX
2x1GB Ballistix Tracer 1000MHz
WD RaptorX 150GB
Going in a new Antec P182 I picked up at Fry's yesteday :D
Mines on the way, should have it by Tuesday. The BX2 has been a very rough ride for me, hopefully the jumper parade will stop........
Thanks! Waiting for April 22 Intel price cuts to get an E6700 or Q6600, not sure yet. I'll do a test build with my friend's E6600.
Yeah, the cable management was what finally sold me on the P182 -- the pre-cut holes and extra room behind the mobo tray are sweet.
I'm looking forward to the first XS DFI P965-S testing thread!
LOL, looks like all he does is benching. Never knew you could get too powerful a cpu for that.:p:Quote:
I have come to realize this processor is too powerful for what I do.
No SLi = :(
When you fellows get them, post your results.
If you feel you must have the power of two GPUs grab a 8950 when it's released.
Besides being hot, the 680i reference boards have had too many problems for my tastes. Hard disk data corruption when they were first released and lately some weird issue with memory.
Well if this board is good then I will have to hop on it. How does it compare to the P5N-e sli?
Hits 500FSB with stock NB volts, the Asus needs extra volts I believe. DFI looks to have a higher max FSB too. The P5N-e SLI has 1T/2T option and 2x IDE ports though. I love my optical drives (IDE) but I'll still go the DFI over the Asus, which I was previously considering - purely for the overclocking satisfaction.
Here's a good thread to watch-

Once newegg has them in stock Ill purchase one.
RD600 does 450fsb, but I would like 500 and faster raid performance.
Wow, no IDE = No care. There ia not way I can sacrifice my ISE HDD and my DVD burner. :(
heard of IDE-SATA converters ;)
Not overly tweaked still learning my way around this board...
Components Used in this run...

I am gonna pair this with a 6300 i bought in the F/S. Owner said it did 3.3 on stock cooling. So with this board and my Noctua tower heatsink, I am hoping for 3.5-3.6 24/7 clocks with low vcore. I just hope my Buffalo FireStixs are up to the task. We shall see:)
Hmm.. it seems like this board isn't getting a lot of hype. Anyone wonder why? It seems like there's just a hand full of us who are actually interested in this board.
Most people who read this forum already have Core2 boards. The ones that want it will be upgrading/sidegrading from other boards and just like to try stuff out, like me. This will be my 4th Core2 board just for fun. Also not many people have had the chance to try it out, so we're only getting a few reviews from people who get great results with every board they test.
Personally I'm looking @ the 680i DFI offering. The only reason I ever bought a 965 board was I wanted 500FSB. After owning the P5B Deluxe and seeing the poor Pi performance compared to the 975x boards, I never really looked their way again. This board seems almost as fast a a 975x board however. But still I'm a gamer who wants to run SLI or Crossfire so the 965 boards will not do for me. I think alot of people just aren't gonna waste anymore money on boards based on last years technology with P35 boards & DDR3 around the corner.
I'm gonna try out the first generation but with DDR2. I've got way too much DDR2 to invest in DDR3 without some serious improvement in performance over DDR2. I generally upgrade to the latest architecture every summer as there's an event here I like to compete in.:D
this will be my 9th or so c2d mobo :)
I had just received a BX2, now have interest in this 965-S.
As for the "jumper parade" that you described for the BX2, could you (or anyone using a BX2 tell me what you are referring to? Are you constantly having to reset jumpers on the BX2?
Also, as an E6600 user, I have never been able to reap any benefit out of any multiplier other than the stock 9 X, and have reached about 9 X 380 to 9 X 390 on the 975X boards I have tried. Is there any reason to believe that this 965 board could do better? I tried an early ABIT 965 and an ASUS P5B Deluxe early on with this CPU and did not see any gains.
Other than solid caps, what benefit is this board supposed to have?
I see negatives (compared to Intel and ASUS, etc) of a somewhat weaker manufacturer with DFI. Am I wrong? Looking at their website for this and other boards it looked quite basic.
Andrew
Raju, so ras to cas set to 3 works as it should with this board?
edit: also
3.Reset button+"INSERT" key to clear COMS.
4.Reset button+"Home" key to load default clock.
great feature! I remember insert being used way back in the day when jumperless first started, but it seemed to have been abandoned. glad to see it's back. home is great too!
thats a prety fast pi time raju... is 3-3-3 faster then 4-4-4? i would LOVE that... no 965 up til now i have seen rewards tight timings.
easter day sale 139.99 and the mobo cannot handle 1066 (pc 8500)!!
I needed a new gaming system now. I've been running and old Abit IC7 and Radeon 9800 for several years now. The P965-S paired with an E6420 running at or near 500fsb with my new 8800GTX should run my games at 1920x1200 just fine. :)
It seemed like the right board right now for me. But I agree the chipset/platform has it's limitations and is by no mean the newest thing.
ewiz.com they have a easter day sale and its down to 139.99
I doubt it was the price drop he was asking for clarification about
got it from the specs.
why would it not support pc8500
BTW when I checked prices it was $141...still I think the price is terrific for C2D mobo
It's a little less than the P5B-E and should be a better mobo, at least by early accounts. Coolaler had ram running @ DDR2 1280 on the one he tried. (Done on E6600 @ 3844MHz 1708rated fsb)
http://ocxtreme.org/forumenus/showthread.php?t=471
i bought it.....i hope its better than the p5n-e.
its gonna replace my dead p5ld2, im gonnna pair it with a smithfield.
hopefully it'll handle 250 fsb lol. what are the mem dividers available on this board?
There are others here who have far more experience than me, but...
The main advantage (for overclocking) of 965 boards is high maximum fsb, especially compared to 975 boards (680i is another story and harder to compare).
So, using the E6600's 9x multiplier, you might get ~ 9x400 = 3.6ghz stable with a good chip on air (maybe a bit higher on water)
However, the Bad Axe 2 (975), for example, can do 400fsb easy and is faster clock-for-clock than 965 boards. So you be the judge.
However, there are two potential caveats:
1) most 965 boards use the 1333 strap (worse latencies) at higher fsb clocks, which is (partially) why they are slower than 975 clock-for-clock. But, the Abit QuadGT and the DFI Infinity P965-S clock higher on the 1066 strap. (The Abit board may be buggier than the DFI, though.)
2) I suppose there is the possibility that (probabilistically) you're more likely to get a better overclocking chip with a E6600 or E6700 (and certainly, X6800) than a cheaper processor. If there is a "binning" process for Intel chips, then the choice of mobo and cpu are somewhat less dependent. That is, I'd rather have a good E6600 and oveclock it using a lower multi on the DFI 965, than use a crappy E6400 or E6300 at its normal multiplier.
Nice post and good brief summary EMAN; I concur.
abit loses its speed @ higher speeds we will see how dfi is better @ 500+ fsb
i got 11.25 1m s pi :) @ 4.499 gig see if dfi can beat it :)
it would be my 3rd c2d mobo, after DS3 and Tforce
:D :D
this would be coming from an asus 945g matx board, three ds3's, a p5b vanilla.
wedfighter, you don't like that biostar?
I'm planning on getting a motherboard soon...Any more guinea pigs wanna cut me in line?
Sold out now...anyone know where to get one?
-Collin-
Yep, Just got a call from ewiz and the board is sold out....
but they got 98 of them for sale on ebay for ~$153+shipping :cussing:
ermm nm it ended but only 1 sucker bought at the auction price so maybe they "magically" got more in stock now?
thats bull:banana::banana::banana::banana:, they already charged my CC... and throw them up on ebay.
look here.. :)
a mobo with no image.. :)
