2GB OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC DDR2-1150 @670Mhz

More DDR2 memory goodness thanks to the folks at OCZ Technology. OCZ sent me a pair of 2GB FlexXLC PC2-9200 DDR2-1150 memory modules http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...lexxlc_edition to play with and they arrived today! :woot:

The OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC came in a new plastic packaging housing the memory as they now have 4 plastic heat sealed tabs on it - mine were intact. So you know if the memory is opened before or sealed from manufacturer (brand spanking new).

The heatsink is tall from below pic, from gold contact to tip of heatsink = 6.5 cm and actual heatsink itself is 5.75cm tall! The barb size seems to be for 1/4" ID tubing as the barb diameter measures ~6mm.

I got my new digital camera yesterday, Fujifilm Finepix S9600 to replace my Nikon 5700 who's CCD sensor died :(

Fujifilm Finepix S9600's super macro mode of 1cm really hard to get to work as it disables flash (unlike on my Nikon 5700) so photos need more natural light I think. So used the normal macro mode of 10cm to take the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC photos.

Unfortunately, tried using Fujifilm Finepix S9600's image stabilization mode at first (flash disabled automatically) but found out the truth it just cheats by driving up the ISO to 800 causing alot of noise. So for non-flash photos use Paintshop Pro XI's noise reduction to fix it up.

Remember 680i chipsets don't have real unlinked memory dividers, so at 370FSB, the above memory clocks are what I have to work with from the memory dividers available to me at 370FSB. So to play with other memory clock possibilities we have to adjust FSB somewhat :)

Change from 9x370FSB to 9x400FSB with following results at 1.5v NB volts unless otherwise stated:

Then I used clockgen to raise memory clocks to 670mhz 5-5-5-18 6-33-6-11-AUTO-7-48-Auto at 2.55v bios set vdimm :)

Good stuff, are you using water cooling to cool? Since the ram is close to the drive bays they should have a small 5.25 kit to make a loop.

Nah just air cooling ram with 3x 60x25mm Sunon 23.5cfm MagLev fans (no dead center) :D

Interesting - according to the SPDTool screenshot, the FlexXLC is EPP programmed (though not marketed that way), and has a single EPP profile for DDR2-1142 CAS5 @ 2.1V!

CPUZ is reporting what's programmed in the SPD. And what's programmed in the SPD is a medium "safe" speed that will boot in most motherboards. Then you go into the BIOS and change it to DDR2-1150 @ 2.35V yourself. That way you don't have to have a set of cheapo slow RAM to put into the motherboard just so you can change the BIOS and plug the faster RAM in.

Probably because logistically it's more of a pain if you're testing only 1 pair of FlexXLC and you have several motherboard/rigs across the house to test the memory in hehe :o

we all know 1300 mhz isnt all that hard for the 680i assuming you have some quality ram. what I want to see is how the watercooling might bring that ram to the next level.

I got myself the OCZ Flex PC9200 RAM to

I use it on A Asus Commando.
But I have A problem and maybe some of you can help me ?

I manage to get the ram @ 650Mhz 5-4-4-12 @ 2.55 volt
When I push it A little more I can't run Spi 1M
It stops the first loop (Does not start the first loopt) , but at that moment I can run ATItool 3D view whit no problems. That isn't possible I guess ..
If the system is so unstable that he cant ever run the first loop of Spi, than it never can show 3D view of ATItool.

I dont come higher than that, but I don't think its my RAM.
I used over 3 Volt and even then I can't come over 650Mhz 1M stable.

Strange thing is ..
If I get my RAM 16M stable and I want to run the 32M, then also he doesn't finish or even start the first loop !
Is int it that Spi must stop (If its not stable enough) at loop ~12 or so and not the first loop ?


Is it my motherboard ?

I cant come over the 650Mhz even not @ Cas 5-5-5-15 or 6-6-6-18 and more voltage ..

Used divider's are 2:3 and 1:2, both the same :confused:

Not sure if it's Asus 680i Striker 0402 bios issues but my FlexXLC ain't liking CAS4 much, CAS5 is fine though. To investigate, I've shove the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC into my Asus P5B Deluxe rig for a whirl at CAS4 :)

Reg-Edit not sure mate never used Commando before and I do know 3.0v vdimm is WAAAAAAAAAAAY too much vdimm to use even for water cooled modules... and I've never gotten more than 590mhz 4-4-4-5 with my other micron d9xxx based modules on Asus P5B Deluxe so your 650mhz is exceptionally good for 965P chipset...

Basically, you're unstable so drop mem clocks down until you can pass whatever tests you want to run.

More Vmch on P965 can help for dual channel @ 600+

On my P5B Deluxe with OCZ 2Gb PC2-8500 SLI Ready Edition @ 2.45v

Vmch : 1.55v = Ram @ 630Mhz SuperPi 1M

It's a C2.

I don't think C2 is better that C1 for the memory controller

For example : Jmax_oc can do 2x1Go @700+ SuperPi 1M on P965 C1 : Link

I guess my 9200 FlexXLC and P5B Deluxe are average then heh.

Will be a while before I have 965P results so let's some more info about SPD used.

Funny story, if I try it in single channel than I come also max @ 650Mhz
Try'd it with 2 stick in single channel and one by one.
Cant get any higher, and .. got my chip to even 1,8 volt,, doesn't help anything

I Hope my P5W is still working, than maybe I can try it on that MoBo ..

i still haven't found time to play with my Flex 9200s on the P5N32-E SLI but on my P5B-Dlx, i found that they screemed at CL5 but didn't fair that well at CL4 compared to the goddy numbers put up at CL5.

FWIW, 5-5-5 was Prime stable at 640MHz while 4-4-4 was "only" Prime stable at 540MHz on the P5B-Dlx...both voltages at 2.50v on a maximizer.

i honestly think the only thing holding back higher mem clocks on the P5B-Dlx with my sticks are NB volts as my board is still un-modded.

Looks like folks at Madshrimps.be also discovered with OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC on P5B Deluxe to not excel much with CAS4 http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...64&articID=529 but CAS5 flies!

So far memtesting on P5B Deluxe and i'm coming to the same conclusion CAS4 is around 544-546mhz 4-4-4-12 at 2.45v but 5-5-4-12 at 2.45v hits 600mhz which is a huge difference!

I'll hook up the maximizer later to get more than 2.45v vdimm.

What is the highest clock with tight timings say for example 4-4-4-12 or 3-3-3-12 as examples?

I decided to move my 2x1GB FlexXLC PC2-9200 modules to Asus P5B Deluxe to confirm whether or not the 2x1GB FlexXLC PC2-9200 kit's CAS4 issues on Asus 680i Striker 0402 bios are motherboard or memory specific. Seems I have no problems with CAS4 on Asus P5B Deluxe up to 540mhz and memtest'd up to 600mhz 5-5-4-12 at 2.45v fine. Does seem that 2x1GB FlexXLC PC2-9200 memory is binned for optimal CAS5 performance rather than CAS4.

System:

• Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 L627A872 B2 Step 6
• Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP650 + Kayl 100W Custom PSU
• Asus P5B Deluxe 0804 bios (Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II on NB)
• 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI card

Let's start with max CAS4 timings and then CAS5. These modules clearly aren't binned for CAS4 performance but rather for higher CAS5 performance.

On ABIT IN9 X32-MAX mobo and at 2.74Vdimm during CeBIT, I got 605MHz(1210MHz) with Cas 4 - 3 - 3 - 8 - 2T - 1 - 21 - 2 - 7 - 3 - 7.8us out of them and 3D benchable......Maybe it was them or a "lower" model of the Flex's series - Tony could confirm with what I was playing durind that time coz I was dizzy in all event :( -
They deffinatelly could do higher but I didn't have the time for further testing.... :(

I also got at 1:1 about 446MHz (892MHz DDR) at Cas 3 - 3 - 3 - 5 - 1T - 1 - 17 - 1 - 7 - 2 - 7.8us ......they seemed to go higher though....;) :)

2.74v vdimm.. too much for me... i'm a chicken LOL

Now with Hipro Maximizer installed on P5B Deluxe again. The same limitations exist though to OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC, the memory is optimized for CAS5 (5-5-4-x) performance.

For now. They came back new from RMA since they would no longer boot at less than around 2.1v. I am firmly convinced that the micron's get conditioned to need the higher volts after a while and I got tired of having to remove all 4 sticks everytime I needed to reset cmos or recover from a failed O/C attempt. While waiting for the flex rma I got some team DDR1200 but only 2GB which is very similar to the Flex, but I am taking it easy on the vdimm at 2.3v this time. Also since Vista only see's 3GB of ram (32bit), I didn't think it was worth using 4 gigs plus I suspect we will all be using DDR3 in new boards by the end of the year.

I have a problem reaching the rated speeds of my memory, I have tryed a lot of different settings and nothing comes close to rated speeds of DDR1150 or PC9200

The cpu is stable @ ( 1170/4x12= 3510 ) vcore 1.44, vdimm 2.425, SLi disabled, unlinked DDR910

I am using the blue slots #1 & #2

Have been testing with these timings in this order:

CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS-CMD TRRD-TRC-TWR-TWTR-TREF-TRFC

Auto timings: 5-8-8-26-2T 5-32-6-11-7.8us-61

OCZ default: 5-5-5-18-2T 6-31*-6-11-3,9-Auto

EVA2000: 5-5-5-18-2T 5-22-6-8-Auto-42

No matter what timings/vdimm I use the system crashes if it's pushed any higher in FSB, I have tryed unlinked and linked and even SLi but nothing gets them upthere.

There still seems to be headroom since I mamaged to lower the timings to 4-4-4-12-2T 6-30-6-11-Auto-Auto @ DDR910, but can't push FSB higher.

All Tips & Tricks are very welkome

QX6700 is fsb limited on 680i chipsets... you need to use a different cpu core2 duo or use a different divider to hit those mem clocks keeping QX6700 fsb low or within it's stable range.

Go to timmings page of the bios and put them at: Cas 4 - 3 - 3 - 5 - 2T - 3 - 9 - 3 - 7 - 7.8us - 21 and boot - you have to use about 2.7Volts for these settings - .......Then within windows open memset and put 4 - 3 - 3 - 4(up to 8) - 2T - 1(or 8) - 21 - 1 or 2 or 3 - 6 - 2 or 3 - 7.8us.....

I got my new digital camera yesterday, Fujifilm Finepix S9600 to replace my Nikon 5700 who's CCD sensor died :(

Fujifilm Finepix S9600's super macro mode of 1cm really hard to get to work as it disables flash (unlike on my Nikon 5700) so photos need more natural light I think. So used the normal macro mode of 10cm to take the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC photos.

Unfortunately, tried using Fujifilm Finepix S9600's image stabilization mode at first (flash disabled automatically) but found out the truth it just cheats by driving up the ISO to 800 causing alot of noise. So for non-flash photos use Paintshop Pro XI's noise reduction to fix it up.

always disable SLI ready in bios.. it's useless for us oc'ers - manual tweaking all the way!

2.4 on the vdimm Had my memory in the blue slots on my mb and couldnt go over 500mhz using cas 4! Changed to bios 1002 and changed to the White slots now i get 580mhz 4,4,4,8 prime stable
