Need Confirmation on BSEL pad mod for e4300

Hello all,

I bought my father the $150.00 Fry's P4800M/E4300 Combo, and was hoping to mod it to boot at a default of 1066FSB instead of the 800FSB.

I have been reading a bunch of pages on BSEL modding but I am still not 100% sure of what I should really do.

I grabbed some spec sheets from Intel and came up with a few diagrams to help answer my question:

Basically I need to know which pads I need to isolate or connect. To isolate I would use some electricle tape, and to connect I have both a defogger kit and a Conductive Ink Pen.

From what I read, I should just connect BSEL1 to BSEL2 to achieve the "Low" signal? Is this correct?

I would dare to say (as an EE) that the two Ls would mean logic level "LO" and therefor GND. Which GND is a different story, obviously DGND. Not sure where that is on that board.

I cant seem to get it to work like that kunaak. My 4300 stays at 200 and boots. Are the two dots on the bottom both painted? Looks likw the bottom one is color of trace.

is this things works?

Well i just READ the post at ocforums and it does not work with a silver trace pen. I am going to try the defogger repair stuff like the picture. I will post results tonight.

I got the trace paint and it did not work. I just got repetative reboots, no post. Am I missing something? Has anyone done this succesfully?

I tried it 4 times now using silver paint, didn't work for me, just booted up with default 200fsb :slapass:

Update:

Connecting the BSEL1 to VSS with the defogger repair kit worked wonders for my CPU. My e4300 boots at 2.4GHz and loads at 48C with ORTHOS and my Ninja with crappy white paste!

I did this to another e4300 but got mixed results, which was probably caused by being to impatient and not allowing the defogger paint to dry. Either way both CPU's show up as 2.4GHz in WinXP, but one of them is not "recognized" by the mobo (ECS P4M800 V2), but XP still works?

PS - if you have steady hands, masking off is not necessary to do the mod, just paint it right on with the brush!

Please post a picture/diagram of the exact pins that you bridged. :)

Kunaaks picture has the bridged pins on the other side of the cpu??? :confused:

Can this mod be done to any C2D?

What benefit (if any) does this offer those with motherboards and ram capable of over 400mhz? I don't see any gains unless you have a locked down mobo. Would be a nice mod for an HP or what not pre-built, LOL.

Increasing the default FSB on the chip in theory lowers the hidden chipset strap timings allowing higher clocks which helps for some old boards, for most modern boards the difference is seen when going from 1066 to 1333 as confirmed by Kunaak

He bridged PADS in effect bridging the pins on the corresponding side of the LGA socket. The diagram we all see is of the LGA socket not the base of the CPU.

You bridge BSEL1 to VSS for 266MHz, and once you've done that you can bridge BSEL2 to VCC (for god's sake don't draw a bridge over the first bridge) for 333MHz.

Very good exactly I adored this trick. I go to test.

I've done it,
Works fine for me. Just remember to let the paint dry for a good 15 mins at least. Then reset the bios. Even though my board was set on auto detect it was not until a CMOS reset that the motherboard recognized it as 266.

Tried both 1066 and 1333 with a silver conductive pen.
1066 boots up as boots up as normal FSB 800, 1333 does not boot at all..

is this mod helping to go away the E4300's fsb wall ?

Someone here tried to isolate BSEL1 or link it to BSEL2 to get a L? Need to know of it works.

You don't link bsel1 to bsel2 to get it to be L.
