Gigabyte DS3 :HIdden Advanced Chipset Features (NOT Ctrl+F1)

i was trying some new cpus and ram on my ds3,
during my last reboot,
in the post screen, and instead of the usual IDE scan
it instantly showed a message about configuring fans
and the system rebooted

After that,in the main bios screen the order of the fields changed...
A new field under the title "Advanced Chipset Features" has been added

also in the PC Health field i could now see the temps of the MCH & ICH!!!

the only info i found about the HECI1
was a pdf from intels 965 page (link

After loading the bios defaults
the hidden menu vanished..
been trying since then to renable it but nothing so far :mad:

Were the two "Advanced" options enabled by default? If so I won't worry about them probably don't need them anyways :P but the temps are very cool to have. Wonder if anyone will be able to find a way to get them back permanently... thanks for sharing!

i found that too, but it vanished after a reboot and since upgrading to F3 habent seen it...

any bios editor? i've tried award bios editor and it didn't recognize the bios file... ;/

sb have edited bioses on XS, maybe could help...

when I try to oc my new rams,several days ago
set FSB450 1:1 5-5-5-15 +0.5V,but its failed
after reboot into BIOS,when I push ctrl+F1
the advanced chipset features window showed

MCH temputre was show 63c
when I put a fan on it,the temputre still 63c

but when I use original rams (transcend 667 elpida -6e chip)
everything is ok

Easy one this one...go to bios, enter PC health status and choose to configure you fans..IE enable CPU fan warning etc etc...your board will enter a global reset once you F10 and reboot.

Now enter bios again and do the CTRL F1 and you will see the added advanced chipset option.

No bios mod needed ;)

I tried this on the DQ6, couldn't get any extra menus.

(Honestly though, i can't think of one reason
why they should not mention about that in the manual...)

I'm using bios version f4 and have no luck using the above method. I'm curious as to what my mch temps are.

what bios ver do u have?
global reset is only a reset or the one when it shuts down and powers on?
my f4e bios makes it only reset even after the fan metod control is changed

what bios ver do you have?
and what does "global reboot" mean? is it this one where you get a red warning message, the system shuts down, waits 2-3sec and powers on?
if so i have no global reboots since i've upgraded to F4e bios.

You boot to bios, you set like i set in the harware monitor section, as you F10 the bios spews out some message about enabling something and global reset...it is in a red box in the middle of the screen.

You then reboot and enter bios....once there you have to ctrl f1 to then see the advanced chipset option.

That is ALL I DID LOL...nothing else from a cmos clear, if your board does not do it i have a different rev to you. This board was bought from Fry's round the corner from OCZ...its nothing special.

so.... looks like the HECI is going to have a direct relationship on the Northbridge.


so has anyone tested disabling those settings and then checked for stability. and such.

interesting that those settings would even show up... Alot of the HECI talk in the PDF is all memory mapping, so its hard to say what the true nature of HECI is without having someone who knows ALOT about the intel chipsets.

further reading is indicating that the HECI is a host controller, which directly interacts with DMA and the processor.
There is talk about power states of DMA devices, memory mapping of DMA devices and other things of that nature.

this could be some sort of power state setting, which probably wouldnt have any effect on system stability when certain power saving features arent being used. S1/S3 mode ? C1/EIST ?

hard to say..

but interesting that it shows up when the fan controls are set a certain way

Someone could probably email gigabyte and request for this feature. It'll be good to know MCH temp. I'm using a probe from multimeter to measure it now. And I could only measure the heatsink, not the chip itself.

about MCH temp (small OT) I just put the old blue zalman on NB and 50mm 5V fan - it is silent and the temp must have fallen because right now i can touch zalman. with the stock cooling i was unable to touch it... this may be a good solution to all ppl who care enough to worry about MCH temp :)

Have you touched the zalman on your GPU? I bet you feel it's not hot as well, but the core might be touching 70C. One thing I realised with such fan-styled heatsink is that the fins don't feel hot, but the base is actually pretty hot. So the MCH temp is still very useful.

Just from my personal experience, my GPU reaches 70C (extreme OC with voltmod on 7300GT Zalman Edition) and yet the heatsink only feels moderately warm. And yes, the heatsink is sitting perfectly on top of the core.

I remember there's a guy in one of these threads who is in direct contact with Gigabyte. We can ask him to add this feature request to Gigabyte. With that, I think Speedfan or any monitoring software can access in Windows as well. That'll be good.

BTW, is yours the fan-styled one or the squarish one? Is it hard to fit it in there? It's probably harder in my case, coz I've got a Gigabyte G-Power heatsink which covers the NB partially. But one thing good about that is, it helps to cool the sides of the CPU too -- MOSFETs and NB. I have a 40mm fan on it, and another old P3 fan on top of that (not directly on top, rather, beside it so that it cools my ram a bit too). I manage to get the NB down to 42C idle, 47C load. That's with ambient of 29C. Have you tried probing it?

I noticed I needed to clear cmos then only make the change that Tony suggested and the hidden chipset feature will appear. Works like a charm.

I also had to clear the CMOS to get the hidden features to show up but after I made some changes and saved them, the hidden features were gone and don't come back without clearing the CMOS again. Monitoring those temps is very desireable but not if I have to clear the CMOS after every reboot to get to them.

What I found VERY disturbing is that my MCH temp was 63C like Tony's was in his SS. This was at stock settings, stock TIM removed and replaced with AS-C with a 50mm fan on the NB heatsink. That seems rather hot IMO.

This works too with bios F3 :)

I have not enabled "Intel QSI" in cpu fan bios submenu. I'm using bios F4d with my DQ6 mobo and I can easily access Advanced chipset timings menu for DDR2 with "Ctl + F1"

we are not talking about DDR II timings that has nothing to do with this thread.. the ddr II timings are the standard features when hitting ctrl-F1

Mine too. But I don't think it should be any concern because I tried to stop the fan I mounted on top of it and the temp didn't change at all. Don't think it's a working feature at all.

I hope you're right but I have a few concerns:

1) There is another screen shot in this thread showing 46C MCH.

2) When I removed my NB HS and TIM, the HS base was very poorly finished but I didn't lap it since I didn't even know if the mobo worked yet.

3) The push pins don't seem to apply enough pressure to ensure good contact, IMO

it's not fair! :(

we ARE talking about HIDDEN FEATURES in DS3 MB.

Ctrl+F1 settings are hidden, but they're not what we are discussing here.

read the 1st post again and you'll notice it's not about timings but aboutr MCH Temp, and two enabled unknown functions - these functions are hidden on DS3 and appear only sometimes

is there a solution already?

I can't. Tried with 3 different bios versions.
CTRL+F1 adds mem timings and other options for example SMART, numlock on/off etc. But not the Advanced Chipset menu.

this entire thread is about 1 setting.. 1 hidden setting that is a bug in the bios that happens to show up randomly for a couple of bios's.

memory timings are not it and if you had read anything in this thread you would have known this..

the advance chipset featres that are hidden and not accessable have nothing to do with ram or ram timings.

again maybe if you had actually read the thread instead of running right to the end of the thread and posting something that has nothing to do with what this entire thread is about you would know memory timings are not what we are talking about.

IluvIntel is not correctly wording what he is doing, he isnt going to advance chipset features. he is going to the overclocking menu that we aLL have ..


stop trying to mess with the "Advanced chipset" HIDDEN menu becuase i am pretty sure gigabyte has totally removed it from being found.
i was never able to get it to work. and i definately cant make it work now with the F6a bios.

I had it working on the F3.

I flashed back to F3, it started working again. I flashed to F6 and the setting was only retained temporarily. As soon as the board reset it was gone again.

Also, I compared the temp using my JPac thermal probe. Temp was within 2-3 degrees of the bios reading and judging by my placement of the temp sensor, I would say the motherboard reported readings are dead on.

The push pins on the stock northbridge cooler do not provide enough pressure so my stock heatsink was running at 75 degrees! It was running at 55 degrees on another board where I did not replace the thermal pad. Putting a Zalman on the heatsink dropped the temps to around 50 degrees and ~40 with any sort of air flow.

Well, I was talking about the northbridge, but after squeezing the tip of the probe under the waterblock I would say the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool is definitely the one to use. It jumps around 2-3° outside of actual, but was dropping at the same rate as the thermal probe. At load, Speedfan is about 5° below this and Coretemp is about 5° above this, but they both seem to be reading the diode. Coretemp is much closer at idle, though.

The only thing that is this topic about - is GBtes bios bug, which shows to ppl things that shouldnt been there - because u dont have gfx onboard.

And - as some ppl realized - MCH temperature dont have anything in common with real temp in there.

In every case - even when 15C in room, and 80mm delta 7K rpm on NB heatsink - shows me 63 C

Write which revision u have - there are pretty huge differences between them :)
