What about P5E ? I intrested about this mb ... only one right mobo with DDR2.
X38-DQ6 also I have, but no time to test

What memory are you gonna be using?
-
-
I dont like the layout.....and those heatpipes are getting bigger and bigger, LMAO whack!!!
-
nice thread...
my Asus P5E3 Deluxe is on the way and arrived in two days (thursday) i hope.
-
i got mine today!
i have a problem voltage damper seems to be useless i have 0.05v drop in full with my QX6800 please when you'll have the board check this.
-
I'm also very interested in how well this motherboard does...I currently have Super Talent DDR3 1866 memory, Q6600 (G0) and the Asus P5K3-Deluxe running very well...but if X38 is better overall, I might jump on it.

I had that same exact issue with my P5K-Deluxe...but this P5K3 doesn't...I hope Asus fixes this as vdroop control is very important to enthusiasts...I'm awaiting on an RMA of the DFI P35 Lanparty board and hope it's vdroop control still works well.
-
Today my modules arrives ... Kingston DDR3-1333MHz CL7 ... 2GB kit.
-
I have that memory and I the setting in my sig.
-
-
do you have some vdrop issue?
-
Yes, every board on this planet has this Vdroop issue, Voltage Damper is useless ...

when i had p5k dlx, the droop dampner worked pretty good no less then 0.01v droop
but sata issues made me give it up for the abit, which has worse droop.
you are right though 90% of boards suffer from this to some degree or another
waiting for some more results.
-
Sure would be nice if some etailer stocked these in the States. The waiting is the hardest part......

P5K Premium with dampner enabled actually over volts by about 5mv under load for me.

• Asus P5E3 Deluxe Bios 0402
• Cellshock DDR3 1800
• nvidia 6600GT
• IBM 14 GB IDE HDD
• Enermax 400 Watt NT <- maybe the problem?
• Windows XP SP2
9*400; MEM 1:2 runs without a problem prime stable.
But 430 or more the board won´t boot. Multi 6 and 7 tested.
i hope anyone can help me...

I had a lot of problems too ... i can to set high FSB ... but after restart PC wont to post ... and says "OC settings was bad, please set it again" ... Press F1 ... blah, blah ... i had similiar problem on some Giga board, BIOS fixed it ... we need to wait for new BIOS, 402 is very immature ...
-
@OBR: what was the FSB of that E6850 in previous boards? Just wondering if X38 is higher than P35/965.

On DFI P53 - ~ 600MHz for Dual Core ...
On Asus X38 - ~ 600MHz for Dual ...
On Giga X38 - ~ 510MHz for Dual ...
On Asus nF680i - ~ 550MHz for Dual ...
For Quad is P35 and X38 the same ..., but X38 a little bit better ...
-
Thanks for the info. Ack, that Giga X38 is pretty weak by comparison. They need to get to work on BIOS updates or something...

ok. thanks for reply.
you think it is not the board/chipset and we must wait for a new bios?
i´m really confused... other people (and you too) have 500 FSB or more (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=160455) and me is a looser  :(
-
there is new bios for the gigabyte x38.
one user tell me:
old bios: 399 mhz fsb stable
with new: 475x7 prime
with quad
i hope Asus is working on a new bios :D
-
-
You dont find a bios made tomorrow, well today, but I posted it yesterday so...
Thanks Asus.
I tested myself and posted my update method. It is for the P5E3-Deluxe
Running @ 466x10 now with stock NB voltage. This board and cpu runs cooler than than the DX38BT setup.

Any1 can tell my the sets of:
Vmem
Vmch
on P5E in Bios ??

P5E (DDR2)
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/4725/boardhf9.jpg
Socket is fulled with SMD.. I think that there's no quality difference with Maximus except some small features like Onboard PWR/RESET button, Watercoolerable heatsink etc..
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/1356/socketgy0.jpg
Mosfet / chipset HS is very cool...
For voltage option..
VCORE : 1,1v to 2,4v (interval 0,00625v)
vPLL : 1,5v to 2,78v (interval 0,02v)
Vmem : 1,8v to 2,66v (interval 0.02v)
Vmch : 1,25v to 1,75v (interval 0,02v)
CPU Voltage Damper doesn't work correctly until now.. (0201 beta)
Voltage can not be chooseable by cursor.. Have to input directly the value.. :/
Bios shot...

Before mod, 1,425v bios - 1,38v idle PC Probe - 1,36v full PC Probe
After mod, 1,425v bios - 1,4v idle PC Probe - 1,4v full PC Probe..
Tested with C2D only.. Have no idea yet for C2Q... :D

Why does the DDR2 model get 2.4vcore and not the P5E3 Deluxe?!?

this is why:

DDR3 memory comes with a promise of a power consumption reduction of 30% compared to current commercial DDR2 modules, due to DDR3's 90 nm fabrication technology, allowing for lower operating currents and voltages (1.5 V, compared to DDR2's 1.8 V or DDR's 2.5 V). "Dual-gate" transistors will be used to reduce leakage of current

aaah!:)...why would you want 2.4 vcore?

I dont want 2.4, couse that would make a meltdown :)
but i want upto 1.80 , for high benching i need over 1.70... atleast for max validation hehehe..
i could go 32m super-pi with 1.70s vcore @ 4300Mhz on this 6850, but NOT at 1.76vcore heh.. ahh well... only becouse its not gonna be more than 1.70 i will prolly need it heh..
Anyone got any news of the Maximus Extreme release?

I take it the non deluxe boards dont have this?

i have a little but annoying bug.
FSB is 420 MHz
In windows i shut down the system, but the system don´t power-down.
It shut down for a second (hdd and fans stop) and then it restart :(
any idea?
i phoned ASUS, but there is now Support for overclocked systems...

Is there going to be a X48 with DDR2 slots?

That seems pointless... who the heck ever turns off their machine anymore? That's what S3 is for. It's like when people debate boot times. I boot once a month after security updates. Who cares what the boot time is.

"Embedded onto the P5E3 Deluxe"
I think it is so if you lose your hd you can still get on the net.
Maybe e-mail a friend to help you get it fixed *shrug*
I guess it would be pretty useless unless you have a problem and might be something some people would not even want on their motherboard.
-
got today my P5E
first test
http://www.abload.de/img/01t2n5.jpg
but it need ~1.50v NB voltage (P5K-E do it with 1.25v!) :(
http://www.muenster.de/~e30pics/Bild...7;20P5E/01.jpg
Btw VCore Droop is 0.024 - 0.032v (Voltage damper enabled!), P5K-E only 0.008v
-
if only the maximus bios would work on the p5e. i knew the boards looked identical.

Simply restore corrupted BIOS data from USB flash disk
The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 allows users to restore corrupted BIOS data from a USB flash disk containing the BIOS file. This utility saves users the cost and hassle of buying a replacement BIOS chip.
Could this also work?

I got my P5E today. I am going to set it tomorrow. The other day I downloaded 0201 beta bios from official asus site. Today I checked the site, there are no bios at all.
I checked asus FTP site and there are 0107 and new 0203 bios. No 0201 bios. Any idea?

Upgrade P5E from stock bios to 0201 and 0203 ... all voltage control option not work for me

first time set them if you write the voltage with numpad...
than save & exit. after this you can change them with +/- (numpad)

how well does it work devil? the Load Line Calibration,PLL? as long as it is mild droop that is fine on a quad, i was getting nearly 0.75v droop on my ip35 before mod, now its bout0.15 ..alot better

On those P5E's are there also temp read outs for the NB and SB ?, think of getting one of these to change my Striker which is maxed at 3.4Ghz with the Q6600...

I don't use load line calibration. Simply vdroop pencil mod and no problem with droop for me.

No P5E not have read out NB/SB temp in bios.
But maybe if put Maximus SE bios to P5E this option will be in bios. PCB is the same :D

Thx for the info, I would never do such a thing to flash the bios of another mobo, there will be subtile changes between the two for sure...

I can't find any of the P5E3 DDR3 boards in stock here in the US yet. Most etailers are predicting stock late this month or sometime in November. Let's hope someone gets any early shipment cough<Newegg>cough.
